so it's a cool start out there. now we are looking at plenty of sunshine not just today but for the next several days here. we saw a little bit of rain come through last night in the north bay but rain chances are now well behind us looking forward to a nice little warm up as we head into the weekend. also the high surf advisory still in effect now until early tomorrow morning. we see 12 to 15 feet so watch out for dangerous surf and deadly rip currents basically right along the coast of the entire bay area coastline again until tomorrow early morning so do watch out. don't turn your back to the ocean. highs for today temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s out there under partly cloudy conditions. 61 in oakland, 62 in san jose. low 60s in san francisco.

a good commute on 101 in both directions northbound and southbound but if you have to head south so far less than 20 minutes to the toll plaza on the san francisco side. james? >> robin thank you. breaking news from overnight we had an explosion at a mobile home park that turned out to be caused by a hash lab at around 8:00 last night at the olympia mobile home park on the 100 block. one man suffered first and second degree burns to his hands and face. he was making hash oil in a shed that wasn't properly ventilated when the shed exploded. three neighborhood homes were also damaged but nobody else was hurt. in other big news the denver broncos are moving on after one of their players was caught and questioned in an under cover prostitution sting. this is exclusive video from that sting from our partners. ryan murphy was detained by sheriff deputies tuesday night

in san jose and was released and not cite but was sent home. this is a glaring reminder that human trafficking can happen anywhere and involve anyone. they spoke with a trafficking expert who is not surprised. >> a week in the bay area for the far cry from a vacation away from home. >> i absolutely do believe the super bowl leads to an increase in museum trafficking. >> the oregon based human trafficking expert was not part of the sting operation which led the santa clara sheriff's human trafficking task force to a motel 6. >> ryan murphy's brother was cited and he was with him. >> knowing a pro athlete in ryan murphy was in the area and questioned by police should sound the alarm that no one is immune to this crime. >> last year we had warren sap

festivities. more now on the protestors complaints. >> they rallied for hours then started their march. they are angry that the city of san francisco moved all of the homeless out of justin herman plaza for super bowl city. >> we are talking about in the middle of a down pour in el nino being told they have to go and can come back after the super bowl. >> thousands of households are waiting for public housing and more than 3,000 of the homeless population here in san francisco are churn. there are not enough beds to house the amount of homeless people. >> there's 7,000 people on our streets. >> initially the plan was to set-up tents outside super bowl city but this team of police officers decided otherwise. >> we are not going to let that happen. setting up tents is a violation of the california meanal code. we didn't want a situation when people are setting up tents for

lodging. >> protestors are demanding mayor ed lee invest $5 million in housing and health service programs for the homeless. happening right now east bay mud is searching for a leaky pipe which may have caused a land slide in the oakland hills. it happened around oak hill road last month. the surveyor got stuck and having to be rescued by firefighters. crews are using equipment including sound devices that could detect water in the hillside and the efforts to track down the leak. once they find it they start making repairs. neighbors are concerned almost a week after a san francisco home had to be demolished after sliding down a hillside. engineers say homes surrounding the demolished house are not in any eminent danger. that's the latest thinking anyway but crews are still working in area. city officials toured the damage yesterday. the city is trying to confirm if the water main break was in fact the actual cause of that

problem. santa clara university and health county officials are determining if anyone else may have been exposed to meningitis. two students have tested positive both are in the hospital. officials say the infections appear with little warning and officials are prepared to provide antibiotics and vaccines so that students can take preventative measures. celebrity and nfl all stars are discending upon the bay area and last night many of them gathered at the super bowl kick off party at the new cruise terminal in san francisco. tommy lee was the featured performer. there he is and we got a chance to catch up with some of them. >> are you going to be eating with carolina panthers gear or denver broncos. >> i'm a raiders so not either. >> are they teasing you now because of this whole

plaza. this ride so far pretty good shape. no problems on the east shore freeway or connecting with 101 so if you are about to head over to 580 west nice and light traffic approaching the toll plaza. tracking your drive through the south bay no major hot spots 101 northbound it's a great ride all the way into palo alto a quick 26 minute trip. 280 when you don't want to use 101, 11 minutes and the parkway northbound is checking in trouble free. no problems from 85 out through the 101 connector. james? >> robin thank you. let's get back to the news and talk politics. we have the new hampshire primaries just around the corner and of course two democratic presidentials in the race. both made appeal tease voters in wednesday's cnn town hall and took pretty good shots at

along with kissingerror. we've got former senator rick santorum ending his bid and enforcing marco rubio. he made both announcements during a fox news interview. he won and ended that race with the second most number of delegates to eventually g.o.p. nominee mitt romney. also happening today the golden state warriors taking a trip to the white house to celebrate the nba championship. president obama will be hosting the warriors and streaming that event live. you can watch it on our website or download the mobile app and watch it that way. it's free and works for android and apple devices. the warriors had to take on the wizards and it was a big night for steph curry. me scored 25 points in the first quarter. the wizards try to keep it close but curry was just too

much to handle. he would make 11 three pointers on the night and end with the game with 51 points. the warriors winning and they are now 25-4 on the season. their next game is saturday at 6:00 so a nice home game we can enjoy. this week heavily armed law enforcement officers are the normal in downtown san francisco to keep those who live in the bay area and those visiting safe during super bowl week and a security briefing wednesday they have found no credible threat but add they will remain vigilent and are asking the public to do the same. police are reminding people and visitors to report any suspicious activity. federal law enforcement including air marshalls and border papa toll agents will be patrolling hubs like bart including a large number of

canine teams. riders can expect to see those dogs during spot inspections not because of a particular threat but because the super bowl is considered a national security event so they are out there in force. don't be surprised if you see them. the f.a.a. too is reminding residents that levi stadium is a no doan zone and prohibited within 32 miles of the stadium between 2 in the afternoon and midnight this coming sunday so don't even think about it. what a difference a week makes. eateries in san francisco are now taking reservations. we sent vicky back out to check out the restaurant scene to see how it's being effected. >> getting into some of the city's hottest spots is not so tough. >> can i get a reservation? >> last week good luck trying to score a table. now you might say that the super bowl could actually be taking life outside route out

experts say big events like the super bowl lead to an increase in human trafficking and important to raise awareness. officers are trained to look for victims of human trafficking and help when they see it. plus demonstrators marched to super bowl city yesterday protesting the fact the homeless have been kicked out of the plaza. thousands of people are waiting for public housing and many of them are children. there aren't enough beds in shelters for the homeless people in the city. they want [oed lee to invest $ million in housing for the homeless. and santa clara university is offering free testing after students tested positive for meningitis. both students are in the hospital and trying to figure out if any other students were exposed. it could even be deadly. annie is looking at the forecast as we break down what to expect for thursday and

the bay area a quick 13 minutes from walnut creek into the oakland mays. it's been in good shape southbound from the east bay heading to the south bay no problems from 238 out to 237 and in case you are traveling through the south bay hop on 101 looking good a quick ten minute trip from capital expressway. >> thank you. and back in the news now we have police releasing new pictures of the suspect behind a brutal beating and robbery in the parking lot of a mall in fairfield. the victim is still in the hospital this morning. talking to police who believe this suspect is the same person responsible for a similar crime on tuesday. >> fairfield police say a 63- year-old woman was walking in the parking lot of the salon town center mall around noon. broad daylight. police say she was beaten and robbed and they say that the suspect is the same person who robbed a woman on tuesday.

the two cases have similarities. fairfield police put the word out to agencies arresting 19- year-old david king. >> he's been booked into county jail on the fairfield case for robbery and also booked by the police department in their case for robbery and attempted murder. >> police say that they are sure they got their man because of the woman's property found in king's possession. >> the victim's purse was stolen and it was also recovered when the police department took him into custody in their case. >> fairfield police say they are working with val hoe police to figure out if he was involved in any other robberies. getting king off of the street was important to public safety because of the robberies.

crews will start bricking down a--bringing down a major section of the old bay bridge. they are going to be removing one of five 500-foot long truss spans. they extend about a half mile and weigh 2500-tons each. today crews will be focusing on severing the trust from it's towers and lowering it down from the bay and on friday they will transport it to the port of oakland. 14 hours on both days and i wonder how many people will slow down to take a look at what's going on. >> it may cause traffic problems. other headlines a school educator accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. jose gonzalez was arrested on charges including annoying or molesting a child under 18 years old. the victim told a school the incident happened over the

summer. gonzalez serves as the interim vice principal. his status with the school is unknown at this time. a criminal case against bill cosby in pennsylvania will move forward. a judge denied the motion to dismiss the case in court. the comedian is facing sexual assault charges brought on by one of his many accusers. they argue it should be dismissed because of a promise made ten years by then district attorney to not ever prosecute them during a civil lawsuit that was filed and settled after cosby admitted to sometimes drugging women he wanted to have sex with but that promise was never put on paper and the district attorney's office is under new leadership. prosecutors say there is new evidence to pursue criminal assault channels against cosby and the judge agrees it is moving forward. still ahead on the morning news new video of a high speed chase across the bay bridge. how the man who shot the video

concert venue. we have the red hot chili peppers on saturday and the giant video wall which is sure to be turning heads at that venue when everybody arrives take a look. >> at the end of pier 70 where all of these concerts are. a week ago it was dusty metal and wood but they are transforming it into a high- tech visual spectacle. eight giant cutting edge video projectors are turning the front of this building into an enormous video screen. i've seen this before on a smaller scale but nothing this massive. >> it's 30,000 square feet of imax video mapping and moving images going across the building to welcome guests to the party. we'll have arrival mode coming in and show mode the actual music the d.j. is playing inside will pulse on the outside of the building. >> pier 70 is going all out and

a sneak peek inside where they are still setting up. they are going to have video walls as screens all over that will be showing people's tweets and instagram picks real-time as they post them for the event. >> pretty cool. thank you gabe. also making news we have fiat chrysler recalling a half million dodge chargers that could slip off of a jack and the bottom be beneath the doors could be deformed and make the cars unstable so chargers from 2011 to 2016 recalled. they will provide with free wheel chalks. customers will be notified when to get them so stay tuned for information from fiat chrysler. the huge recall of deadly tecada air bags is expanding to include more recent car models. air bags are at risk for exploding and firing out shards

trip from downtown oakland a quick 13 minute drive northbound to downtown oakland looking good as well. no major trouble spots so far and driving from the south bay to the peninsula. northbound 101 a quick 12 minute commute from palo alto getting into san mateo. james? >> robin thank you. a high speed pursuit across the bay bridge ending with a suspect crashing his car and running away but the incident is recorded on camera chasing the action. at one point the motorcyclist got into the action himself and how it all unfolded. >> so you are riding your motorcycle on the bay bridge during the morning commute when suddenly this happens. a car goes speeding by on the left shoulder. then you notice a chp motorcycle officer on his tail. >> i could see the civic was trying to get away from the officer. >> the high speed pursuit

it looks like. cal tran said this is going to take about two days so you'll be able to see a lot of that work being done. back to you in the studios. >> thanks a lot avery. stories following a woman in the hospital after she was beaten and robbed in the parking lot of a popular mall in fairfield and a teenager is behind bars in connection with the attack. this happened just before noon yesterday. witnesses say a 63-year-old woman was walking in the parking lot when a 19-year-old william david king attacked and robbed her. the victim has life threatening head injuries. king was also wanted for attacking a woman with a hammer and robbing her on tuesday night. >> he's been booked into the county jail on the fairfield case for robbery attempted murder and we also learned that he was booked by the vall e.j. o police department in their case for robbery and attempted murder. >> king was arrested by police less than an hour after the

attack yesterday. king had the victim's purse when he was arrested. the fairfield police department is working with police to figure out if king was involved in any other robberies. happening today santa clara university is offering free meningitis vaccines after two student tested positive for the bacteria. both students are in the hospital and they are trying to figure out if any other students were exposed. they got sick quickly with little warning. it causes inflammation of the brain and spinal cord and can be deadly. the denver broncos are moving on after one of their players was caught in question of a prostitution sting. we have exclusive view from our partners on inside edition. ryan murphy was obtained by sheriff deputies during the sting. he was released by police and not cited but the team still sent him back to denver.

north carolina with wind gusts 50 miles per hour trees and power lines knocked down and thousands of people lost power. no reports of injuries there. on the top right damage left by a tornado that touched down in georgia yesterday afternoon. several cars and buildings were damaged. the tornado was on the ground for ten minutes. no one was injured either. a tornado in alabama 1 13 homes were destroyed from a storm that ripped through tennessee a lot of severe weather. >> here's what all of that looks like on a map. in real life you see all of the damage but on the map it looks limited to that end of the country. we got nothing. >> it's the entire coast all the way up from top to bottom. impacting flights i'm sure if you have a destination to the east coast look for that. things are setting up for pretty serious winter weather over the course of the next week ahead the dynamics are

i'm still tracking the ride starting to pick up along the flat section of the bridge but so far just about at the limit here coming out of hayward heading to the peninsula and foster city of san mateo. it's in pretty good shape and should take 14 or 15 minutes. that's a great drive time. maybe coming from the north bay this morning still quiet looking good out of the north bay. no major problems for the ride on southbound 101 pretty smooth. 15 minutes from 580 to the toll plaza on the san francisco side. also tracking drive times out of the south bay. 101 in good shape heading towards the peninsula northbound from san jose to sunnyvale to the 270 split 20 minutes. naprons out of the mountains if you have to use 17 it's a great ride all the way up and a quick 18 minute trip from 101 north

leaving the peninsula into san francisco. back to you mark. >> thank you robin. looking for a leaky pipe that may have caused a land slide into the oakland hills last month. a contractor was stuck in knee deep mud while he was surveying the land slide on oak hill road. crews are using equipment including sound devices that can detect trickling water in the hillside and hoping they can track down the leak. once they find it they can start making repairs. people are still worried almost a week after a home in that area had to be demolished because it was sliding down a wet hillside. a broken water main break made that hill unstable. other homes near that home that was torn down are not in eminent danger but homeowners are still worried. ed lee toured the damage

pick up truck and car collided after 6:00 this morning. they have a traffic alert for this. and the motorcyclist did not survive. >> two left lanes are closed and traffic is crawling here and those will impact those who have to travel through san leandro and get to the san mateo bridge. it is out to 238. now it is on the flyover. >> pushing up the drive time to 54 minutes to get from san leandro to the scene of the crash and into the south bay into milpitas. >> look at the opposite side and this is starting to slow down the ride. >> how do you get around this. use city streets to get to hayward and there is the boulevard if you want to hop off the freeway and that will get you around the traffic. >> continue to track the hot spot throughout the morning commute. we will let you know when they have it out of the way. we will return after the break. stay with us.

. we are following a deadly motorcycle accident. it is right under highway 92. this is reported to chp as 6:01 this morning. i will circle it so you can see the activity and the motorcyclist did not survive. two left lanes are brock dollars and special alert in place for this. and it as crawl in both directions. >> this is the southbound side of 880. traffic is awful right now to san leandro. back up on to the flyover and the opposite side. it is starting to slow down as well. nothing is blocked. they were there and stick with city streets. streets a short trip to make and this is mission. and use experian and get back on the freeway after highway 92 or little bit cloationer to tennison and get you around the traffic. we don't know when they will have it out of the way.

it is blocking for 40 minutes. causing a nasty back up and pushing up the drive time for the southbound nimitz freeway. it is just under an hour to get from san leandro to the crash here out to 237 in milpitas and it is a stretch to avoid. and switch over to the san mateo bridge. this is interrupting the ride over to 92. you can see the traffic is at a crawl. >> so you are stuck in the back up on the nimitz and stuck here on the san mateo bridge. it is jammed from 880 all the way over to the high rise portion. this is a quick ride into the back up maze. and this is off and on. out to the fremont street exit and this is downtown oakland to the west bounds skyway. now to the weather center. here is james. >> thank you, rob bun. looking out past the cease stern span -- eastern span of the bay bridge. it is awfully nice looking
