the obama administration is trying to step up the fight against the zika virus - which has been linked to birth defects. catherine is back with what the president is hoping to get from >> catherine:president obama wants lots of money to fight zika -- 1-point-8 billion dollars. he wants congress to provide emergency funding for the fast- moving virus.

he says it would be used for things like mosquito control and vaccine development. the zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and has spread to at least 29 countries. in the meantime - a vaccine is being developed - but it could take a long time. "we have already started to develop the vaccine in the early stages and we can predict that we likely would be in phase-one trial just to determine if it's safe, and if it induces a good response, probably by the end of the summer and get that going by the end of this year. and if it looks like it's safe, we'll go to the next stage. unlikely to have a vaccine that's widely available for a few years, but we certainly can get the initial steps." experts say that the mosquitoes which spread the zika virus are among the hardest to fight. that's because they live and breed in tub drains, dog bowls, buckets and flower pots. bug experts and mosquito control officers from across the u.s. in georgia - hoping to come up with new strategies to fight them.
