authorities have found more human remains in the south bay, and san jose. yesterday it was in gilroy. they were found near richmond avenue last night. they have not said if the remains belong to a man or woman. they will be examined today, one day after human remains were found in south hill board. they don't believe those remains belong to sierra lamaar. authorities have not identified the latest ones.

feature. garett swasey you are saying these was our drone. we are going to test out the autopilot feature. unless the car drives by itself. this is a huge deal. tesla is pushing forward automotive technology into the future. so let's hop in and test it out. we drove the test latte low traffic area with nothing out but cows. when you're driving. you can activate the autopilot feature at any speed. you tap the cruise control feature twice toward you. i can take my hands off the wheel. it's so weird. when you're in autopilot. you can take your feet off the panels and you control them like cruise control, tacking-

tapping it up and down you can deactivate it any time and take control of the car by pressing the break. >> there is a turn coming up. it was really freaky with curves of the road. it's taking the turn. that's amazing. it feels like you are on a ride like a disney or something. something on a track that knows where to go. one lane, country roads are scary enough for driving them without your hands on the wheel and with a car coming the other direction, that really pushed me. the car is coming towards me my hand is off the wheel. that's freaky. if a car drifts into your lane or cut you off the autopilot will know and keep you safe. >> automatic emergency braking and collision avoidance. smith this is the first example of a self driving experience.

and the good news is there are no issues for the airports, including excess-ssl, oakland and san jose. here's a check of our forecast. by 8 am we will see partly cloudy conditions, patchy fog and 40s and 50s and by lunchtime, things look fantastic. mid 60s and partly sunny. go outdoors. if you can and by 3 pm. has there heading home from school. temperatures will peak in the 60s and 70s. it will be cooler and in the mid-60s. by 10 widespread 60s are expected in by lunchtime 60s for the heart of the bay. maybe lower 70s and by 3 pm. we will see temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s so very similar to yesterday and a few spots will be cooler today compared to yesterday.

found near gilroy. authorities haven't identified those remains but they do not believe it is the missing teenager here. a man has been charged with her murder and is expected to face charges. investigators don't know the age or gender of that person who was found. we are just a couple hours away from the start of the titans of maverick's surf contest in half moon bay. we are joined with a preview of the competition which you can't get out and watch this time. >>reporter: that is right. that competition starts at 8:00 a.m. now this competition was after much uncertainty this year because of past storms. they had to postpone the competition but today they're expecting optimal surfing conditions up to waves that are up to 40 feet tall. now, this year, you will not be able to watch on the cliff that

audiences typically watch competitors because that cliff is closed this year. now, also, they're not holding the annual watch party they have here in the parking lot. the best way i'm told to watch it is online. i'm told the surf shop will have more cameras and angles than they've had before. coming up, organizers will be here and surfers will be here this morning and you'll here all about it coming up later. thanks a lot avery. be cautious if you are headed on the beach this weekend. officials are teaming up to make sure that beachgoers know about the dangers of high surf and waves. earlier this week a man died when he was swept out to sea by a big wave in pacifica. officials will be conducting a mock rescue today to show people

what to do if they get caught in a wave. good news. streets that were closed because of super bowl city are finally back open this morning. both south street and marka undero are open. they had to clean the streets and do some painting and pack up the security gates. roads were closed for nearly 3 weeks because of super bowl city. but everything finally back to normal this morning. a tragic ending for a beloved richmond police officer who was shot and killed yesterday morning. we first broke the story here. veteran officer gus vegas was shot and killed at his home. and the suspect is identified as vega. he's the father of the grandson. police believe they got into a fight yesterday morning and he

was protecting his grandson. police say the suspect fled and took the grandson with him. >> they were able to locate both the suspect and the child at an associated residence inside a vehicle. they were arrested without incident -- or rather vega was arrested without incident and the child was taken into protective custody. the 6-year-old child was not injured and we also learned that officer vegas and the father of his grandson both graduated from the napa valley police academy. vegas was a 15-year veteran of the police department. and the shooter was not a police officer. and we're learning new information about the deadly shooting. a san francisco medical officer said he had wounded in his hand

and back and abdomen. the report also found drugs in his system including meth amphetamine and marijuana. the attorney representing woods' family says his mother is traumatized by the results. >> thinking about how he died and must have felt and now to have it reaffirmed with the number of shots and the horrible nature that she can visualize her son taking these various shots in his body. so it was a horrible thing for a mother to relive. officers say he refused to drop the knife when they confronted him. the department of justice investigating the police department's use of force in the wake of the shooting. alarming news out of berkeley this morning, a new

report says that buildings need to face repair after the deadly collapse last june. 6 people were killed and more injured when the balcony collapsed. they found the balcony was decaying because of water intrusion. all balconies are now required to have cross ventilation and they need to be made with rot resistant materials. over the past 6 months, the company sent letters to 6,000 property owners and about 72 percent replied. 18 percent do need repair. >> so those 400 odd buildings are now getting building permits and they're getting permits to correct whatever deficiencies are found.

surf advisory. the maverick surf competition going on. avery is out there this morning. they're going to get some huge waves. swells up to 30, maybe even 40 feet. so great news for the surfers out there. but for viewers, not so great news because it makes the beaches hazardous. so watch out for rip currents. and huge waves. 69 in union city and also pushing close to 70 in freemonitor. heading farther inland, 69 in pleasanton. lower 70s in antioch. a few communities i think will hit low 70s today. 66 in downtown san francisco. 71? santa rosa.

the ntsb released a preliminary report. it shows there were no signs of mechanical issues on the bus and the driver was not intoxicated. two women were killed and others were injured in that crash. the man driving the bus told investigators he felt tired after their stop in gilroy err earlier that morning. investigators are still trying to figure out if fatigue caused the accident. california's high speed road project is hitting a road block. saying the bullet train will not be as fast as promised. voters said that the train would shuttle people from san francisco to l.a. in under 3 hours. it also assumes the train could travel at 220 miles per hour through the mountains which critics say is impossible to do. project officials say that

san jose. here's the scene. this was a car that hit a pedestrian around midnight at winchester boulevard and loma drive. the vehicle -- all they know is a red compact car. we know the victim is a man. that's it. tran is going at the scene. we'll have a live report shortly. and authorities have found more human remains this time in the south bay. the sketons were found near moore park and richmond avenues. they haven't said whether they belong to a man or woman. this comes after a day after remains were found in gilroy. authorities haven't identified the remains but they do not believe they are missing hill teenager la mar. a man has been charged with her murder and standing trial in april. it doesn't appear they are the remains of lamar because of the

calls. earlier this week, a man died when he was swept out to sea in pacifica. so rescuers are going to do a mock rescue and showing people what to do if you get caught in a wave. and good news for drivers in san francisco. the streets were closed and now are open in super bowl city. marcadero now open to traffic. crews were working all week to take down the stuff and pack up all the security bearicased. roads were closed -- barri-indicateds. -- barricades. a police officer was shot and killed at his home earlier. clifford ask more details on how it happened. >>reporter: the vallejo police department has identified the suspect in the murder of 58 gus

vegas and 30-year-old robert vega. police declined to release details about vega but they say he has a connection to the victim. >> there were family members with connection to the victim who said he was the father of the grandson. vega fled the scene taking his 6-year-old with him. after talking to witnesses, police determined that vega had fled to fairfield. >> fairfield police department was contacted later. they were able to locate the suspect and child in front of an associated residence inside a vehicle. they were arrested without incident. or rather vega was arrested without incident and the child was taken into protective custody. >>reporter: investigators also spent a good time of day on thursday searching where vega was arrested. and finally, kron 4 has learned

that the killer and victim both graduated from the napa valley police academy. vega in sithatts. and while vega was a 15-year veteran of the police department, both police departments say they know vega was not working as a police officer. and new information about the deadly woods shooting. the examiner's office releasing a report yesterday saying he had as many as 20 gunshot wounds in his hand and back. also in the abdomen and legs and whack. he also had drugs in his system including meth and marijuana. the shooting was caught on camera and sparked outrage in the city as the attorney representing woods' family says his mother was horrified by the autopsy results. >> traumatized. thinking about how he died, thinking about how he must have

felt and to now really have it affirm the number of shots and the horrible nature that she can visualize her son taking these various shots in his body. so it is a horrible thing for a mom to have to relive. five san francisco police officers were involved in the shooting. woods was -- the medical examiner says dna on the knife that the suspect was holding did match. a new report finds more than 400 buildings need to be repaired to avoid a future accident like a deadly collapse that happened last june killing 6 people when the balcony collapsed. investigators later found that balcony was decaying because of water intrusion. a building inspection was

launched in the wake of that over the past 6 months, the city sent letters to more than 600 property owners. about 70 percent remained. close to 200 buildings were inspected and 18 did need repairs. >> so those buildings are getting building permits and correcting whatever deficiencies were found. the city council will take a look at the report and get an update and then the council will discuss whether the inspections should continue every 2 years or 5 years. kanye west released his the life of pablo album. and now martin skrelly is offering for it. hillary clinton and bernie

sanders mix it up in the democratic debate. and a little more traffic at the approach to the bay bridge but it still looks pretty good.

59 in sunnyvale. and downtown san francisco. and mid-40s for the north bay. we're still watching this high wind advisory. still watching for tomorrow night. huge waves. swells up to 40 feet. maybe even for the coast. this is good news for those competing in the mavericks surf competition. but for spectators, they're not letting us watch for the next few days because of the dangerous waves and likelihood of rip currents at the coast. we show a lot of widespread 60s. it's going to be another nice day out there by lunchtime. yes, go out to enjoy lunch if you can. we'll see 60s or 70's out there. we'll see a mixed bag of upper 60s to low 70's. airport tied the record -- but other than that, that was pretty

and warming up nicely into the early part of next week. then some changes come this way for the latter part of next week. we'll talk about that in your 7-day forecast. now, here's a look at the roads. all right. no major hot spots but traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. so if you have to drive into san francisco, it's not too bad. you can see the approach. not too bad. right down the middle, backed up to west grand. not into the maze but that's good. 13 minutes from the maze to downtown. that's still a great drive time. your commute on the san mateo bridge, going to be crowded. no major problems so although crowded, not considered a bad ride. about 15 minutes for the total trip from hayward to san mateo. we had some traffic on the interchange, at one point in time crawling.

already looking better to the interchange. so that's a nice improvement. i'm also tracking your south bay contrive. here's a drive time. northbound 280 from san jose to cupertino -- no problems. less than 15 minutes for the total trip. now, back to the desk. thanks robin. 6:17 we want to get to our details that we had about last month's deadly bus crash in san jose. new information comes from the ntsb. a report that was just released on the crash. the report shows there were no mechanical issues on the bus and the reports show the driver was not intoxicated. two women were killed and others were injured in the crash. the man driving the bus -- the bus driver told investigators he felt tired. investigators are still trying to see if fatigue caused the

accident. there were a couple of passengers that told our news that they thought the driver had fallen asleep. california's high speed rail project is hitting a roadblock. saying the bullet train would not be as fast as promised. at that time, they said the train was going to shuttle people from l.a. to san francisco in 2 hours and 40 minutes. but investigators say that travel time doesn't account for areas in urban areas and it assumes the train could travel 220 miles an hour through the mountains. but train officials are allowed to rely on their own experts that say the travel time is possible. and hillary clinton had one goal in last night's debate to stop bernie sanders' momentum. and she was hoping for a bounce

at union city, but fremont, looking good. all right. police at the scene of a deadly hit-and-run in san jose. we're tracking it now with the latest. are they still looking for the car? >>reporter: they're looking for the car. all they know it's a red compact car. this is winchester boulevard and loma verde. let's get to the video. investigators were here for about five to 6 hours. they actually left 15 minutes ago. they were here collecting evidence. i'm sure they went around this area looking at buildings to see if they have surveillance cameras to capture the incident and get a license plate for this car. we do know it involved a man. we do know he died at the scene. so far he has not been identified as the driver because this driver fled. all they know it's a red compact

car. not even if it's 2 door or 4 calendar. because it happened in the overnight hours, it did not impact traffic. winchester is a very busy road. you can see they were marking the ground and had to clean it up. but the roads are now open to the public. hopefully we'll here from the police department as far as a better description of the car and who they're looking for this morning. and we're still waiting for the id of the man who died at the scene. all right. we'll check back with you gary. it's 6:32. and a nonprofit that provides counseling to sex offenders is not relocating to this neighborhood. it's currently located on market street. planning to move to a corner of church and de-bose. but the community found out about it and voiced objections. they said that the deal was made without public input and that

so watch out -- swells up to 30 feet and maybe 40 feet. huge waves for those mavericks surfers out there at the coast. but not the best if you're going to be viewing it which is why they're not wanting people to come out and watch because they're worried about dangerous waves and rip currents. a very good possibility with these big swells expected today and tomorrow. south bay highs. a lot of upper 60s to low 70's. 69 for campbell. san jose -- and 69 in mountain view. 68 in palo alto. 67 in redwood city. 64 in san mateo. mid-60s in downtown san francisco. ocean beach 62. under mostly -- partly cloudy conditions. the rest of area, pushing 70's. we'll see 70's for napa and

the president want $1.8 billion in emergency funds. in a hearing they say it's crucial that pregnant women do not travel to the affected areas. the virus has led to devastating birth defects. there are more cases in the u.s. and more are expected but officials say a massive outbreak here is unlikely. secretary of state john kerry saying major world powers have agreed to a cease fire and providing aid to the country. the diplomats hoping the cease fire could continue to next week. and parking in airports is pretty expensive which is why drivers stop illegally in the white zone. and to help alleviate that, free
