daly city. is in jail tonight awaiting formal charges. 38- year old shikeb saddozai was shot in the arm. it happened during a confrontation with police last week, on st. francis boulevard. he was released from the hospital on thursday. officers responded to a domestic dispute call. involving a woman reportedly being chased by a man with a knife. police spotted him in a backyard a couple of blocks away. this is video from our partnerhsip with abc 7. taken last monday. the suspect is being held on domestic violence, assault and other charges. a memorial service for gus vegas. the off- duty richmond police officer who was killed in his vallejo home last week. is now set for friday. it will be held at the richmond memorial auditorium at 10 o'clock in the morning. and it will be open to the public. the burial service will be private. vallejo police say, the 58- year old officer was shot by the father of vegas' grandson, during a domentic confrontation. the guman was arrested on suspicion of murder. and is

professional search teams are scouring the land.in the delta.dogs are being used to try to pick up a scent. there is now a smart phone app. which has the ability to detect earthquakes. >> pam:if all goes well, the app could soon be part of a system that warns people. when a quake is about to hit. kron 4's charles clifford explains. >> reporter:as of friday, the myshake app for android phones is available for free to the public. once downloaded and installed the app uses the phones accelerometer to quietly listen for the unique shaking patterns of an earthquake. the idea was developed by researchers at the berkeley seismological laboratory and they collaborated with the silicon valley innovation center in mountain view to create the app. we've been working closely with berkeley for a few years. for now, myshake is only collecting data and sending it back to a server for analysis, but one day it could become the core of a global earthquake detection network.

if all goes well, the system will work like this: in the event of an earthquake, the myshake app...which can tell the difference between man made shaking and an actual quake... will send a trigger to a server. if that server receives triggers from other smart phones in the same area, the computer can then send out alerts to the surrounding region, possibly giving people a few seconds warning before the earthquake reaches them. sot you could have anywhere from a seconds to a minute depending on where epicenter is and where your phone is. sot in places like nepal or chile that don't have the financial wherewithal to build a seismic sensor network this could come in really handy. at the moment, the app is only available for android phones but the developers say that are working on bringing it to apple and microsoft devices as well. in mountain view, charles clifford kron 4 news. >> pam:most californians realize

they need to protect their cats and dogs from mountain lions. but catherine heenan is here with a new report. on just 'how' >> catherine:a lot of people may not realize just how often our cats and dogs are being gobbled up. a report from the department of fish and wildlife has chilling of 107 mountain lions legally killed last year -- the stomach contents of 83 were analyzed. 52 percent had recently eaten cats, dogs or other domestic animals. supposedly - deer are the favorite prey - but only 5% of the mountain lions had eaten them. probably because our pets are so much easier to catch. in placerville not long ago - a traumatized looking dog from a mountain lion. attacks happen all the time - and experts say it's a reminder to guard your pets carefully
