desks forms require them to stand up as they learn. >> reporter: kron 4's maureen kelly reports. the idea was to help the school, but the kids say. there keeping kids in their seats is not a problem in this classroom. because most students in mr. andrews 5th grade class don't have a chair to sit in. this came about after the belshaw school teacher got wind of the idea of standing desk.and made the pitch to his principal to let him give it try.as a way to help kids pay attention to their lessons.and he says he's can see a change in his pupils. the longer they are in it the more focused and on task they seem to be but there also are believed to be health benefits associated with keeping one's feet

since sitting for long periods has been linked with things like obesity.high blood pressure and cardio vascular disease when you have good posture it helps blood circulation and it increases your focus levels and your ability to focus for long the desks come with what's called a fidget bar that lets kids burn off excess energy. and you can see is a very popular feature the students say standing all day instead of plopping down at their desks took some getting used to. at first my feet hurt. but they have noticed a change is how they learn. feel that standing up is helping them learn better.then they did when they were sitting. i wasn't playing as close of atttetion i was getting in standing desk its better, and several say that they even feel better after a day at their desk then they did when they had chairs. when i go home i feel more energic the standing desks have worked out so well tha the principal has ordered new desks for the other fifth grade classes.he's applying for grants so eventually the 3rd and 4th graders can stand as they study as well.
