bcn13 -suspicious grass fire >> pam:two people from the bay area were killed at a california naval base this week. when their s-u-v crashed through a gate --- and into a fighter jet. catherine heenan is here with the details of the strange and deadly accident. we now know that the two people killed were a man and woman from san jose. officials are still asking how an s-u-v involved in a police chase managed to get inside that naval air station near fresno in the first place. the c-h-p had been chasing the jeep cherokee.which sped inside the lemoore air station. and took out a 60-million dollar top-of-the-line fighter jet. it doesn't appear that the base was a target.and it's still not clear why the driver sped away.at one point going the wrong way on a highway.

the two people who were killed were not affiliated with the military. the navy base is still investigating how the driver broke through the secured gate. a wild high- speed chase through the san fernando valley in southern california. ends with the suspect lunging for a patrol car. in an apparent attempt to steal it. from our coverage partners at c- n-n. reporter dave lopez shows us how police stopped the suspect. "there we go. there we go." what looked like a routine ending to another police chase, suddenly was not. "woah! oh my god! she's trying to take the lapd cruiser. oh my god!" >> reporter:one officer had her tightly around the waist and pulled her away from the steering wheel. "i mean, she was, like, hands on the steering wheel, inside the car. real close."

mike mcdowell lives two doors down from wehre all of this ended. and who exactly was this woman who tried to steal a patrol car while surrounded by members of the lapd? arrest records show that her name is khianna reynolds, age 30. we believe she is from new jersey, could not find a local address on her. we did find these photos online from a modeling site and mcdowell, after looking at the photos, said he believes it's the same woman who tried to steal that patrol car. "i just ran out of the house. and i saw a woman, i did not know, sitting in my car and backing up." she did nto want to go on camera or show her face, but she said it was her truck that was stolen, believed to be by reynolds. she said the suspect nearly ran her over when she drove off. and when she called 9-1-1 she gave police a vital piece of information, she said her cell phone was inside that truck. police immediately put a ping on that phone, within minutes located the stolen truck barrelling down the 118 freeway, and the chase was on. ms. reynolds is now behind bars. among the charges she faces, attempted grand theft auto of a

this was the second and final day of the nuclear security summit in washington, d.c. the u-s and a large number of world leaders are meeting and terrorism became the hot topic today. c-n-n reporter scott mclean with what the leaders are trying to do to prevent nuclear materials from falling into the wrong hands. "this is a perfect example of a 21st century challenge that no one nation can solve alone. to tackle that challenge, president obama hosted more than 50 world leaders in washington, d.c. this week for the fourth nuclear security summit. with leaders noting that efforts to reduce and protect

nuclear materials have been made. this summit is about nuclear security and everybody is very clearly focused on that. the amount of nuclear material in circulation continues to decline. and highlighting a new agreement, 102 nations have now ratified a key treaty. that obama said would make it easier for nations to work together in the event of the theft of nuclear materials or an attack on a nuclear facility. but president obama said the world cannot be complacent about nuclear safety and fears that terrorist groups, like isis and al qaeda are trying to obtain nuclear weapons overshadowed the summit. there is no doubt that if these madmen ever got their hands on a nuclear bomb or nuclear material, they most certainly would use it to kill as many innocent people as possible. the vicious terrorist attacks in brussels last week only underscore the importance of the n.s.s process. in fact, world leaders devoted an entire session friday to discuss how to counter nuclear terrorism. the single most effective defense against nuclear terrorism is fully securing this material so it doesn't fall in to the wrong hands in the first place. in washington, i'm scott mclean kron 4 news. alarming new details on a series of deadly drug overdoses we've

been telling you about in northern california. >> pam:the drug enforcement administration sent out an alert today saying there have been at least nine deaths linked to the drug "fentanyl" in the sacramento area. federal officials suspect the drug is being sold on the street as "hyrdocodone." that's a powerful pain killer that is similar to codeine. the d-e-a says fentanyl can be up to 50 times more powerful than heroin and is lethal even in small doses. the wife of man who died from taking the drug wants someone held accountable. "he bought what he though was norco and it ended up being fentanyl and it killed him." "that was really keen on keeping those pills and having them tested so that we would know. but no body's investigating it

because they just view it as an overdose when it's not. it is murder in every sense. whoever's making these pills is murdering people." the d-e-a says there have been at 36 reported overdoses in sacramento county. even more troubling, federal officials say many of pills are marked to appear like norco or hydrocodone. the white house assembled a 'zika summit' today at c-d-c headquarters in atlanta. and now the government has some urgent advice for health officials around the country. catherine heenan is here with details on what they're asking. it's clear that concern over the zika virus is not only 'not' going away. >> catherine:it's becoming more intense. u.s. health officials are now being told to prepare for any possible outbreaks this summer. we found out this week that the mosquitoes which can transmit the virus live in a broader chunk of the country than originally thought. it's expected that some small clusters of zika will happen this summer -- when mosquito numbers boom. and health officials stress that they're still mostly

of men and 21 percent of women according to the report. in reaching their conclusions - researchers looked at body mass index trends in nearly 200 countries from 19-75 to 20-14. the study found over the past four decades global obesity has tripled for men and doubled for women. the united states takes the cake -- with the largest percentage of its population being obese by 2025. more than one in four severely obese men and almost one in five women live in the u.s. and what percentage chance does the u-s have to stop the rise of obesity -- zero. according to the report's senior author -- the planet is moving towards a new reality where there are more obese people than underweight ones.

catherine heenan is here with details. the state department's internal review has now been suspended. the reason they're giving -- they don't want to get in the way of the ongoing f-b-i investigation. the question --- whether the former secretary of state or her top aides mishandled emails containing information now deemed "top secret." clinton used a private server for those emails.while she was america's top diplomat. today the state department says it's deferring judgement on all this to the f-b-i -- which is conducting a more comprehensive review. a lot of people are awaiting the outcome - not least because it's happening in the middle of the 2016 election cycle. clinton has said she's confident she didn't break any rules. the state department hasn't ruled out resuming its on review once the f-b-i wraps up.
