and also this in the east bay, causing a lot of concern. this is a freeway shooting that happened last night on 80 in hercules. >> been keeping a close eye on these car to car soo shootings. there's a new strategy to catch the shooters and what the supervisors believe is the ultimate solution to solve the problem. >> there have been 20 shootings baiting back to 2015 november. three there week. one killing a mother and wounding a passenger on highway highway 4 in pittsburgh. this happened on thursday in hercules, injurying a male. a passenger in a white sedan opened fire as the vehicle pulled up by a nissan. >> they need to be aware, they're going to be watches and a great chance they're going to get caught.

>> several occurring in this district. >> i have been in contact with law enforcement and chp and they are working closely with sheriff's department and local city police departments to investigate all of these and to effectively increase surveillance on the froi. >> increased surveillance is coming to a bay area highway near you. >> i have no problem with it. the cameras. and it may be easier and an a little bit of a deterrent. >> going to be strategically placed. and not going to solve these car to car shootings. >> miles and miles of freeway. and i'm told it's not possible to have surveillance on everyone inch of that freeway. >> determined these shootings are gang-related. the problem is targeting those

groups before the shootings begin. >> going to a freeway, may impact more people, but the challenge is stopping gangs and decreasing crime. >> 20 shooting on bay area freeways, half of those on interstate 80, most recently last night in hercules, a young man shot as he was driving on interstate 80. a collision of a bike and a car yesterday. this time, it involved a san francisco police department cruiser that hit the cyclist. you see some surveillance video here. this was captured by an app that turns your phone into a smart dash cam, if you will. you can see the police car signalling on right and mission street. and all of a sudden, swerving left.

in the bike lane, hitting the bicyclist and called the ambulance. the biker who spent several hours in the hospital and survived with a broken bone and leg jury. the man in the patrol car, wrote a statement, quote, at least i got hit by a cop that didn't try to flee. and the emergency lights were on in that mrook and after that, it is clearly not the case. san jose police are investigating a stabbing that turned deadly overnight. will tran reports, it all unfolded quickly in a shopping center. >> happened shortly after midnight in an apartment complex a quarter mile from 101. it happened after midnight. my source tells me that the victim was stabbed in the neck, staggered his way into a restaurant and sat in a chair

and before anyone realizes it, he had died at the scene. >> we don't know what caused this. that's part of the investigation, part of what we're trying to determine. agencies are here, gathering evidence, maintaining any physical evidence, any surveillance video evidence. >> plenty of stores at the shopping complex. many of them have surveillance cameras. investigators were here throughout the day to get access to the footage to try to lead them to the killer or killers. this is not known if it was gang-related. will tran, kron4 news. the man accused sierra lamar is asking for more lawyers. frustrated with the slow pace of his case and asserted his institutional rights to a speedy trial within 60 days.

destroyed, an suv that was parked out front was engulfed in the flames as well. a man and a family dog did die last night and the je passed away at t the hospital. you can see the videos and photos, and see what it was like. the neighbors describe this as a thunderous sound and they looked into it, a lot of smoke, lots of damage to the house and described it as sending shock waves through the neighborhood when i spoke with neighbors. >> it was scary and sad. super scary to see a house burned down. they lost a lot. lost a life, lost a dog, lost their belongings. that happened just like that in a matter of 15 minutes. a life was ros and their

belongings. everybody was just kind of astounded by how quickly it all happened. >> as you can see, people have placed flowers out here to memorialize the person that lost their life and the family pet. the fire is still under investigation as o to how and what caused this fire and they say that about 25% of the home has been completely damaged and suffered about 120 thousand $120,000 worth of damage in the house, primarily smoke damage. that's all from concord. >> police looking for the public's help in identifying a man that is suspected of robbing the same walgreens over and over again. take a look. this man has been seen at the walgreens on south campbell several times. stealing merchandise. anyone who can recognize the suspect from the photos is asked to contact police
