>> marty:a bay area mother is recovering this morning after a freak accident at a playground in san francisco. the mother was watching her children -- when she was hit by a falling tree limb. take a look at the scene in san francisco. you can see the branches covering a park bench. the tree limb was very heavy -- weighing about 100- pounds. this morning we will take a look at the warning signs you need to look out for if you have trees on your property. but first kron four's charles clifford reports from san francisco with an update on the condition of the mother. >> reporter:around 315 friday afternoon, a 36-year-old woman was struck by a falling tree branch on the edge of washington square park in san francisco's north beach neighborhood. at the time, she was watching her two children..ages 5 and 6.. play at this playground. the branch apparently weighed about 100 pounds and fell roughly 50 feet. the woman was transported to san francisco general hospital and at last check she was in critical condition. when police arrived on scene, they took custody of her two kids, but only briefly. sot the children were reunited with their father and the family is now at the hospital.

following the accident, the playground was blocked off and an arborist was called in to inspect the trees. nats >> reporter:crews did find one additional problem branch along columbus avenue and removed it. superivor aaron peskin, who represents the area, says it's been several years since these trees were inspected and he's requested that the recreation and parks department's arborist inspect the trees. sot and we will have him look at the report and make an assessment and the city attorneys office is on their way and it is obviously a tragedy. >> marty:that was kron four's charles clifford reporting. now we want to look at ways to protect yourself, your home and your family from tree branches suddenly falling. kron four's rebecca strom is here with warning signs that can help you spot a vulnerable branch. rebecca? >> rebecca:the first thing you want to do is see if the tree passes the eye test. homeowners can look at your trees. and if it looks bad.it likely is a potential problem.

the victim so hard he flew 20 feet up in the air. his jacket was hanging from some powerlines. witnesses stepped in to help, but 47-year-old vallejo man died at the scene. kron4 is getting you ready for school. and vaccines have stirred quite the debate among parents in recent years. a bay area health department is urging parents to get their children vaccinated for h-p-v. it is *not required. but doctors have linked the human papaloma virus to several types of cancer. studies show the virus can be prevented with a series of shots. kron4's ella sogomonian reports on what local health experts want parents to know. >> reporter:the cdc says 79 million americans are infected with hpv or human papaloma virus which can cause at least 5 types of cancer. in san mateo county - health officials say only 30% of students who would benefit have had a preventative vaccine

against the most common sexually transmitted disease. peter emanuel "if there's a vaccine that will prevent me from getting cancer i would take it any day of the week." bryn nuenschwander "vaccination is a godsend and good for individual health and public health and i think we should be doing more of it." >> reporter:county doctors are now urging parents to take their kids to get the shot. ella sogomonian the bay area's news station "for the hpv vaccine to be most effective patients need to take three doses over the course of 6 months." the san mateo county health departement is specifically targeting 11 and 12 year-olds. dr. scott morrow, san mateo county health officer "so we want to make sure they are vaccinated before they are sexually active so we don't want to wait until they are 16 or 17 because it might be too late." the hpv vaccine is effective for adults up to 26-years-old - after which it becomes less effective as most sexually active people could have already contracted hpv. alexa frankos, teen >> :"i would say you should probably get it because it's probably now or never because it could happen in the future and you could eventually get it." >> reporter:most we spoke with agree the benefits of the

three others were also in the car. police believe a woman was driving it. police say the license plate begins with a seven. on the peninsula. the two year old toddler who fell out a window of a foster city apartment complex has died. it happened at the water's edge apartment complex located on hillsdale boulevard. the 9-1-1 call came around 8:15 -thursday morning. firefighters say, the boy was walking through the hallway, when he leaned on a screen and fell through the window. the toddler fell three stories to the pavement. investigators say it is a tragic accident. also on the peninsula. families are back inside their apartments in after a truck barrelled into their complex in redwood city. but one of those families will not get to go back home for a long time. >> marty:this is video of the scene from our helicopter

"the car was like in someone's actual garage and he hit one of the posts of the building so they were afraid that it would collapse so everyone was pretty much being evacuated." librada garcia and her family live directly above that garage. "nobody was hurt. thank god everyone was ok. the only things damaged were material." the man driving thr truck, however, ended up in the hospital. police aren't sure what happened yet, but so far they say it appears neither drugs nor alcohol were involved. the driver probably won't face charges. but this road, which has train tracks running through the middle of it, has seen accidents like this one before.

but first kron four's charles clifford reports from san francisco with an update on the condition of the mother. around 315 friday afternoon, a 36-year-old woman was struck by a falling tree branch on the edge of washington square park in san francisco's north beach neighborhood. at the time, she was watching her two children..ages 5 and 6.. play at this playground. the branch apparently weighed about 100 pounds and fell roughly 50 feet. the woman was transported to san francisco general hospital and at last check she was in critical condition. when police arrived on scene, they took custody of her two kids, but only briefly. sot the children were reunited with their father and the family is now at the hospital. following the accident, the playground was blocked off and an arborist was called in to inspect the trees. nats crews did find one additional problem branch along columbus avenue and removed it. superivor aaron peskin, who represents the area, says it's
