>> vicki: and first told you about today's other big news we are following tonight. an 11 month old baby who had been allegedly abducted by his own grandmother has been found safe and sound. we got word late this afternoon that the child was spotted in >> reporter:this aerial video from our partnership with abc7 news shows the scene in redwood city where the baby was recovered by police this afternoon. according to the district attorney someone who saw the amber alert called 9-1-1 to report having seen the 11 month old boy and the suspect in a liquor store in san mateo. it was here at the big lots on broadway street in redwood city where 44 year old phoebe haynes was later taken into custody. according to law enforcement this all started at 8 oclock wednesday night here at the foods co on williams ave in san francisco bayview. haynes, the

phone scam alert. today, the contra costa county district attorney issued a public warning about harrassing "robo-calls" that he says have become widespread. kron four's philippe djegal explains the problem and how the d-a's office says you can protect yourselves from becoming a victim. >>:nats- "hello, we have been trying to reach you." >> reporter:at an alarming rate. >>:sot- "very annoying." nats- "this call is officially a final notice from irs." >> reporter:fraudulent robo- calls are pestering landline and cellphone users like lucy gonzales. >>:sot- "i just ignore it and hang up." >> reporter:often during these calls, the contra costa county district attorney's office says the potential victims are asked to send money or provide personal information. >>:sot- "we found that the best protection is a healthy dose of skepticism." >> reporter:senior deputy district attorney steve moawad says the nature of the calls run the gamut. from alleged police officers claiming a person's personal information has been compromised and will receive a visit from law enforcement. fake family members pretending to be in trouble overseas, in need of money. to the i-r-s threatening lawsuits.

i outlined a bold new immigration reform donald trump not only doubling down but tripling down on his promise to round up and deport as many as six million people in this country illegally. a tough speech drawing ton of reaction from all sides today. justine waldman has been looking at trump's latest plan. and what people are saying about it. donald trump has been talking about the issue since day one of his campaign. he's blamed illegal immigrants for raping and murdering american citizens, draining taxpayer dollars and threatening national security. and he says only he can stop it. >>:"not going to happen any more, folks. not after november 8th" >> reporter:his supporters cheered when he laid out plans for a deportation task force. it's a great idea. it is a task force-like effort that's led by very professional people in the

chief brown has served on the dallas police force since 19-83, when he says he joined the force to fight the crack cocaine epidemic. he made national headlines this summer when five of his officers were gunned down. brown challenged youth who expressed their disatisfaction with the police to join the force in order to become a part of the change. the chief has not said his reason for is decision.and has not detailed what he will do after retirement. leadin- dallas' top cop is calling it quits. chief david brown has announced his plan to retire next month. --vo script-- brown has served on the dallas police force since 1983, when he says he joined the force to fight the crack cocaine epidemic impacting his oak cliff neighborhood. chief brown made national headlines this summer, when five officers were gunned down on july 7th, by a lone gunman. brown challenged young people who expressed dissatisfaction with the police, to join the force in order to become part of the change. the chief is expected to hold a press conference next week, to mark his october 22nd departure from the department. brown had not detailed his plans for his future and didn't cite a specific reason for his decision. four survivors of 20-12's colorado movie theater massacre. have been ordered to pay the movie theater chain thousands of dollars. >> grant: the deadly shooting happened back on july 20th, 2012-- the shooter james holmes opened fire inside the century aurora multiplex. 12-people were killed and 70 others were injured. more than two dozen survivors. sued the theater's owner-- cinemark. claiming it did not have enough security measures in place to prevent the shooting. but in may. the jury ruled cinemark was not liable for the shooting. and most of the survivors instead took a small settlement. four of them refused. so now a judge has ordered those four to pay the third largest theater chain in the country 700-thousand dollars for legal bills. still ahead. a potiential breakthrough in the fight against. alzheimer's disease. the new treatment. that could prevent the disease from every developing. plus. the parents of a missing utah man. have a new glimmmer of hope about their son who disappeared in china 12-years ago.

researchers say a new experimental drug could be a game changer when it comes to treating alzheimer's disease. >> vicki:patients with early- stage alzheimer's were given the new drug once a month for a year. according the researchers-- the drug cleared some deposits of toxic plaques from the brain. it's that plaque that experts believe plays a crucial role in triggering the onset of alzheimer's.and slows memory loss. after a year, patients on the highest dose of the new drug. had virtually no detectable signs of these deposits. larger studies are under way to test whether this potential breakthrough holds up. for some of us, having one or even two cups of joe a day is the norm. but do you ever wonder why you might be such a big coffee drinker? the answer may be in your d-n-a. mary moloney has more in today's health minute. >> vicki:the maker of the snacks "little bites" is recalling some products because they may contain plastic. the company made the announcement wednesday saying the problem started with a manufacturing failure at their bakery.

that. the article claims sneddon has been seen in north korea -- married with two children -- and working as an english teacher -- even tutoring north korean leader kim jong un. part of the article may be correct and part of it may be conjecture, we just don't know. but the sneddons hope it puts things in motion -- especially in congress. resolutions in the house and senate call for the u-s government to investigate whether david sneddon is in north korea -- and work to get him back. those resolutions haven't passed yet. this may put some fire in congress. in the meantime -- for the sneddons -- it's another step in a road they hope will lead to their son coming home i expect that when all is said and done, we'll have done as much as we can, but standing back, we'll say it was a miracle. we're glad that we saw it. the sneddons say they've already heard from one u-s senator's office -- outside of utah -- wanting to get the ball rolling. utah congressman chris stewart's office said they hope to pass the david sneddon resolution by the end of the year. usually you hear about big foot being spotted in fields or the

breaking news right now on kron 4 news at six: crews are rescuing some boaters on the bay after they hit a rock. good evening, i'm steve aveson. and i'm pam moore. we first brought you this story at 5. kron 4's charles clifford just got to the scene of the rescue moments ago. charles. from the video we saw earlier. it looked like the boat might sink. where do things stand at right now?

sometimes she was a single mom the sf da's office says the this all started at 8 oclock wednesday night here at the foods co on williams ave in san francisco bayview. haynes, the baby william brown and the baby's mother came here to do some shopping. haynes and the baby stayed in the parking lot.when the mom came out she found the baby and the baby's grandmother were no where to be found. police took surviellance video from the store, and this arco station just a few blocks away. the manager says the clip the police took shows a woman throwing away her iphone in this recycling bin. he says the baby and the car were not seen on the tape. an amber alert went out this morning. officials say someone who saw it called 9-1-1 to report seeing haynes and the boy in a liquor store in san mateo. it was here at the big lots on broadway street in redwood city where 44 year old phoebe haynes was later taken into custody. medical personal at the scene checked the baby out and he appears to be unharmed physically. so far there has been no word from police or the d-a's office as to the suspected motive behind this alleged abduction. maureen kelly kron4news
