part of this is good news for pedestrians and bikers. the last stretch of a bay bridge bike path has just been finished.. it connects to yerba buena island.and it's the last segment of a 4-and-a-half mile bike and pedestrian path connecting the existing path from emeryville. there's been a ribbon cutting.but it officially opens to the public around noon on sunday. there's a bike lane in both directions.with an outside lane for people walking. and even a free shuttle every half hour from the landing on yerba buena island to parking on treasure island. also.drivers heading westbound on the bay bridge will now have new ramps to enter and exit yerba buena island and treasure island. two new westbound on and off- ramps to and from the bridge open tomorrow morning. sky 7 gives us an overview. drivers are being asked to pay attention because the new ramps are in different places than the current ones. the construction on the project first began in january of 2014. and it cost more than 98-million dollars. a big story we are following. fraternities at u-c berkeley are suspending parties until further notice. this comes after two reports of sexual assaults last weekend. but some fraternities are partying on. kron four's ella sogomonian reports from "frat row" where some students celebrated before the cal football game, despite the party ban. >> reporter:no parties - indefinitely according to the uc berekely inter-fraternity council president daniel saedi. but it seems a few frat houses are still enjoying game day. the attempted suspension on social functions came as a response to back to back sexual assault allegations from two separate victims last weekend. "it's deeply upsetting because it's my peers fellow students perpetrating these assaults on other students" "ya i think it's concerning because it happens this often and we are getting notifications about it."
8:05 am
both women reported the unwanted sexual conduct happened at an off campus fraternity but it was not revealed which house. "i don't think necessarily it means more is happening i think it's probably been happening it's just more people are comfortable bringing it up when other people are bringing it up." saedi says a risk management team along with the presidents of both sororities and fraternities representing 1500 members will meet saturday to come up with a plan for a safer party environment. "just having them meet and come to some sort of agreement i feel that sets a precedent and makes the community feel a little bit safer." one tactic saedi says is enforced by each event event- is a consent talk at the door before letting people inside. " ya i think it can be a reality check for some people just a reminder so anything helps." "they could benefit with mandatory consent talk at the door and with their members."
8:06 am
saedi also says frats are limiting the amount and type of liquor served - sticking to beer and wine. some students say it's not only up to greek life spread awareness. "cus it's not only maybe greek students it's other people." "i don't think necessarily it means more is happening i think it's probably been happening it's just more people are comfortable bringing it up when other people are bringing it up." saedi says a risk management team along with the presidents of both sororities and fraternities representing 1500 members will meet saturday to come up with a plan for a safer party environment. "just having them meet and come to some sort of agreement i feel that sets a precedent and makes the community feel a little bit safer." one tactic saedi says is enforced by each event event- is a consent talk at the door before letting people inside. " ya i think it can be a reality check for some people just a reminder so anything helps." "they could benefit with mandatory consent talk at the door and with their members." saedi also says frats are limiting the amount and type of liquor served - sticking to beer and wine.
