>> marty:it happened at around 9:15 last night near huntwood avenue and tennyson road. a hawyard park ranger called police requesting emergency assistance in the area. police say the man was driving his r-v into officers and people at a nearby party. police then shot the man. he is now in the hospital and expected to recover. breaking news from overnight. italy was rocked yet again by another powerful earthquake. a six-point-six quake hit central and southern italy earlier this morning. take a look at this video just into the kron four news room. it shows significant damage to an iconic church in norcia -- about 100 miles north of rome. two powerful quakes hit the same region wednesday, weakening a number of buildings. those were technically aftershocks from an august earthquake that killed nearly 300 people. so far there are no reports of any deaths in today's

earthquake. back in the bay area, another big story we are following. c-h-p officers are looking for the shooter behind yet another freeway shooting in the east bay. it happened friday night at around 8:00 on the westbound side of interstate 5-80 near harbour way. officers found an injured man who says he was shot while driving. this is the second highway shooting in this area in just a few days. c-h-p officers say on thursday night - a 30 year old man was shot and killed near the hilltop drive on-ramp on the eastbound side of interstate-80. some people who live in the area say it's a disturbing trend

for your money: here are the stories from the week -- that could impact your bottom line. college tuition is rising faster than inflation and family income. that's according to a new report from the college board. the average cost of tuition, fees, and room and board-- rose 10-percent over the past five years at public schools. and 12- percent at private schools. family income rose just seven- percent over that time. analysts say costs are going up at public universities because they lost a lot of funding during the recession-- and are still recovering. the average tuition to go to an in-state public university is now just over 14-thousand dollars a year. while the average for private schools is just over 26-thousand dollars. >> marty: it's the halloween block party in san francisco. check out the costume contest, fesitval and street fair. it's happening in the inner sunset all day. the event is free to attend. welcome back to kron four news weekeend.

fairifield police say the 26- year-old man from san francisco was pronounced dead at a hospital. lieutenant kevin carella confirms the shooting happened near the playground at the woodside court apartment complex on alaska avenue just before ten o'clock friday night. right now, police have no suspects. saying only that the man was shot multiple times while he was walking outside with a companion, who was not injured. sot- "it was crazy because this never really happens over here like that so, now its like ok, is it time to move or what cuz this is crazy, like i have my son here -- there's in this -- all through here and they play right here -- that's not cool." lieutenant carella says this does not appear to be a random act of violence. he adds this is the city's seventh homicide of the year. in fairfield, philippe djegal, kron four news. in national news. police say miami marlins pitcher jose fernandez had cocaine in his system before his deadly boat crash last month. officers say fernandez was legally drunk at the time of the crash. the star pitcher and his two friends were killed after their private boat hit a jetty near miami beach. doctors say the 24 year old fernandez suffered blunt-force injuries and fractures. his official cause of death is listed as "boat crash." investigators have not yet determined who was steering the boat before the collision. fernandez was a two-time all- star and the national league rookie of the year in 20-13.

a college student in arkansas is expelled from his fraternity after a photo shows him in black face. now the school is weighing whether to take disciplinary action. this photo was shared by a member of the fraternity on instagram after a halloween party on friday night. >> marty:it says it was taken at the "sigma tau gamma" house at the university of central arkansas. the u-c-a president says the university is investigating. while students are waiting for the investigation to wrap up.. they are hoping this is a good learning opportunity. " the student in this picture has since received death threats. he later issued an apology on his instagram account. happening now. the n-t-s-b is investigating what caused a cargo plane to catch fire when it landed in ft. lauderdale, florida. this is video from friday.

the fed-ex plane's left wing and fuel tank caught fire as it landed. fedex said the plane's only crew members were both pilots who escaped down a rope ladder. the fire caused 43 flight delays and six cancelled flights saturday morning. one of the airport's runways is closed this morning wihle investigators analyze the wreckage. take a look at this. three astronauts returned to earth after spending 115 days in space. one of the astronauts, kate rubins, was raised in napa. the other two astronauts are from japan and russia. the russian space capsule landed in kazakhstan late last night. the trio of astronauts performed hundreds of science experiments over nearly four months aboard the international space station. the chicago cubs are now on the brink of elimination, that's partially thanks to a chicago- native and life long cubs fan. game four highlights are next on kron four. live look outside. richmond bridge for the weekned. it's the halloween boo bash in emeryville. check out the dog cotume parade and magic shows. it's happening at bay street emeryville from 11 to 2. the event is free to attend,

>> marty:the cleveland indians are now just one win away from their first world series championship since 1948. they won their second straight game in chicago and now lead the series 3-1. this was the scene outside of wrigley field going into the game. the cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first after this r-b-i single from anthony rizzo. the indians answered right back. scoring two runs in the second, and a third run in the third. then in the seventh inning, a chicago native put the nail in the coffin for cleveland. jason kipnis was born and raised in chicago area.

his home run powered the 7-2 win. jon lester will try to keep the cubs world series hopes alive. game five is tonight at 5:00. the stanford cardinal are back in the win column after beating the wildcats in arizona saturday night 34 to 10. christian mccaffery ran for 169 yards and had two rushing touchdowns. keller chryst threw for two touchdowns. and san jose state protected home field against the u-n-l-v rebels. the spartans won 30 to 24 on saturday night. kenny potter threw for 292 yards and had two touchdowns.

"this morning i came to my store and then all the entrances and exits were closed by the officers." the man who was shot has life- threatening injuries. neighboring workers say what happened is unfortunate, but they also hope the suspected late-night gathering won't put a black mark on their companies. "more for my customers, ya know. i hope they believe the story we told 'em that we couldn't get to the trucks." police interviewed several people during the early-morning investigation, including business owners. we know they've asked to see surveillance video from at least one of the neighboring companies. in san jose, spencer blake, kron four news. police are looking for a man they say broke into a rio vista convinience store and stole several lottery tickets. this image on your screen is of the man who police say stole the tickets. he was caught on the store's surveillance camera. the man used a crow bar to pry open the store's front doors thursday morning.

he then went behind the counter and took numerous tickets. then he got into a gray pick-up truck with a camper. it was last seen heading east on highway 12. a group of mosquitoes on bethal island in contra costa county tested positive for the west nile virus. scientists say rain in the forecast may lead to more mosquitoes. mosquitoes breed in standing water. officials are urging people to dump all standing water, clean gutters, and wear repellent. three human cases of the west nile virus have been reported in contra costa county this year. in other bay area headlines. multiple people are behind bars this morning and accused of stabbing two men at a south bay mall. kron four's alecia reid talked to concerned valley fair shoppers. pkg

>> reporter:during the fight, 2 men were stabbed. sot - that's sad to hear the attack happened around 7:30 friday night while the mall was still open and people were shopping inside with their families. angela miller/shopper sot - you come to the mall to shop thinking you're safe, not to be injured so that makes you uncomfortable when you shop police say one of the men was transported to the hospital. the other was treated and released at the scene. sot - it's normally pretty safe around here shoppers are concerned that such a violent confrontation happened at what they consider to be a typically safe place to unwind. sot - i always feel safe. i didn't even know it happened yesterday. i came in, bought my shirts, and now i'm out allan feng/shopper sot - i wouldn't worry about it too much. it doesn't happen too often. if it happened every week then i'd probably be like, i wont come here. for now i think it's fine standup the motive and circumstances behind this crime are under investigation. police have 3 people in custody. we're told there are no outstanding suspects. reporting live from santa clara. >> marty:take a look at this. caltrain used 12-thousand pounds of explosives to demolish a section of the old bay bridge. traffic was halted along the bay bridge on saturday. a police boat was out on the water to make sure no one got too close. autumn is the season for water demolition of the old bay bridge as thirteen more

july. i'm yasmin amer reporting. early voting in san francisco is underway, and will continue this and next weekend before the election. election officials are urging voters to bring a ballot work sheet with them to fill out their choices. there are twenty-five different measures on the ballot. san francisco historically has had large numbers of measures to be considered. with so many ballot cards voters may forget to turn over a card, they may not vote all the contests or all the measures so we really want them, really encourage them to use the ballot work sheet prior to marking the ballot card. i think in 1913 there were thirty three measures on the ballot, san francisco has had a lot of measures on the ballot before. weekend voting is open from 10 am to 4 pm on saturday and sunday. johnson and johnson lost it's third straight trial over the cancer link to talcum or baby powder. a saint louis jury awarded over 70-million dollars to a 62-year- old woman. she says her ovarian cancer was caused by years of using the product.

the woman was diagnoised in 20- 12. johnson and johnson maintains its product is perfectly safe. but some studies suggest a link between ovarian cancer and talcum, the main ingredient of their baby powder. however, some scientists say the findings are inconclusive. a spokesperson for johnson and johnson says it will appeal the verdict. probation officers in marin county arrested a sex offender during a compliance check friday.

50 food trucks from across the nation battled it out for the 'best breakfast' recipe. but it was a bay area food truck that stole the show. kron 4's vicki liviakis was there to catch all the action in this morning's edition of dine and dish. if you're a fan of food trucks - you don't have to look far. from the chicken man and his rolling rotisserie to southern comfort food on wheels - the bay area has some of the best. meet the grilled cheez guy. so confident of his curbiside cuisine - he went spatula to sputula against food trucks from all 50 states. mike the grilled cheez guy - represented the bay area well in the thomas' breakfast battle - food truck competition. his norcal nook otherwise known as the california cranny comes complete with herloom tomotoes, bacon, quacamole, a fried egg and cheese - sounds like a winner. but the grilled cheez guy had a meltdown of sorts - and was smoked by the pineapple express breakfast from south carolina. the grilled cheez guy came in second. but to the locals who line up for some of that cheezy goodness - it's a hometown winner everytime. in san francisco, vicki liviakis kron 4 news. thousands of people attended the popular "boo at the zoo " in san francisco. kids participated in a costume parade around the zoo.

sot- "that's why i came outside." of the deadly shooting. sot- 'i heard about five gunshots." from an eyewitness. sot- "and, he collapsed right here -- right in front my porch." who prefers not to share her face or name. sot- "i seen he got shot in his back and who it was, his girlfriend or whatever was trying to keep talking to him so he could um stay here but um yeah, as soon as he got on the gernie you could tell he was gone cuz he was taking his last breaths." fairifield police say the 26- year-old man from san francisco was pronounced dead at a hospital. lieutenant kevin carella confirms the shooting happened near the playground at the woodside court apartment complex on alaska avenue just before ten o'clock friday night. right now, police have no suspects. saying only that the man was shot multiple times while he was walking outside with a companion, who was not injured. sot- "it was crazy because this never really happens over here like that so, now its like ok, is it time to move or what cuz this is crazy, like i have my son here -- there's in this -- all through here and they play right here -- that's not cool." lieutenant carella says this does not appear to be a random act of violence. he adds this is the city's seventh homicide of the year. in fairfield, philippe djegal, kron four news. in national news. police say miami marlins pitcher jose fernandez had cocaine in his system before his deadly boat crash last month. officers say fernandez was legally drunk at the time of the crash. the star pitcher and his two friends were killed after their private boat hit a jetty near miami beach. doctors say the 24 year old

fernandez suffered blunt-force injuries and fractures. his official cause of death is listed as "boat crash." investigators have not yet determined who was steering the boat before the collision. fernandez was a two-time all- star and the national league rookie of the year in 20-13. a college student in arkansas is expelled from his fraternity after a photo shows him in black face. now the school is weighing whether to take disciplinary action. this photo was shared by a member of the fraternity on instagram after a halloween party on friday night. it says it was taken at the "sigma tau gamma" house at the university of central arkansas. the u-c-a president says the university is investigating. while students are waiting for the investigation to wrap up.. they are hoping this is a good learning opportunity. parties out here, and there has been younger people with their cars, waiting for something to go down." they think some kind of party was happening friday night into saturdaywhen someone got shot at 4:15 in the morning. green cab - a taxi company in the park - has employees working 24-seven. though nobody there heard or saw the shooting, the police investigation prevented them from making a normal shift change. "girl was supposed to come in at 7. she got here at 6:40, wasn't able to get in the door. the girl that was supposed to go home at 7 couldn't get out the door, so she was here until nine o'clock while they did the processing the scene." police say someone drove an injured man to the hospital after the shooting - before officers even arrived. right now, there are no suspects nor clear motives. the owner of a neighboring junk removal service had to put his whole work day on hold for about four hours. italy was rocked yet again by another powerful earthquake. a six-point-six quake hit central and southern italy earlier this morning. take a look at this video just into the kron four news room. it shows significant damage to an iconic church in norcia -- about 100 miles north of rome. two powerful quakes hit the same region wednesday, weakening a number of buildings. those were technically aftershocks from an august earthquake that killed nearly 300 people. so far there are no reports of any deaths in today's earthquake. back in the bay area, another big story we are following. c-h-p officers are looking for the shooter behind yet another freeway shooting in the east bay. it happened friday night at around 8:00 on the westbound side of interstate 5-80 near harbour way. officers found an injured man who says he was shot while driving. this is the second highway shooting in this area in just a few days. c-h-p officers say on thursday night - a 30 year old man was shot and killed near the hilltop drive on-ramp on the eastbound side of interstate-80. some people who live in the area say it's a disturbing trend that's has them concerned for their safety. ken jones i do live in the area and it seems to be random so it's hard to tell what's going to happen. so it is a big concerning for me. i dont know if it's a gang initiation or a personal thing that i don't know anything about but it does concern me because of the way i travel through this area. joyce gomez

"more for my customers, ya know. i hope they believe the story we told 'em that we couldn't get to the trucks." police interviewed several people during the early-morning investigation, including business owners. we know they've asked to see surveillance video from at least one of the neighboring companies. in san jose, spencer blake, kron four news. police are looking for a man they say broke into a rio vista convinience store and stole several lottery tickets. this image on your screen is of the man who police say stole the tickets. he was caught on the store's surveillance camera. the man used a crow bar to pry open the store's front doors thursday morning. he then went behind the counter and took numerous tickets. then he got into a gray pick-up truck with a camper. it was last seen heading east on highway 12. a group of mosquitoes on bethal island in contra costa county tested positive for the west nile virus. scientists say rain in the forecast may lead to more mosquitoes. mosquitoes breed in standing water.
