election. not everyone in america is embracing a peaceful transfer of power after tuesday's election. --vo script-- a group of demonstrators marched on the streets of downtown los angeles tuesday night. they shouted chants of "not my president" in response to donald trump's defeat of hillary clinton. one demonstrator blamed the democrats for their party's loss. --sot-- "this is not a surprise to us. this is a wake up call to the democratic party to step their game up, to elect candidates that represent everybody. not to elevate people like donald trump." --tag-- during the demonstration-- protesters also burned a pinata that was made to resemble donald trump. one person also lit an american flag on fire. but others quickly extinguished it. there's 'another' kind of protest brewing. you might soon be seeing the hash tag "cal-exit." catherine heenan is here to explain. we've seen that some people are upset about the prospect of a trump presidency. now -- "cal-exit" is trending on social media. it's about californians who insist they want the state to secede from the united states --- reminiscent of the brexit movement to leave the european union. they're leading a campaign aimed at putting a referendum on the 2018 ballot. california was solidly behind hillary clinton -- with 61% of the electoral votes. examples of some of the cal-exit tweets: the person who said "i'm all in. we could elect bernie sanders as our leader." and another - "any chance california can pull a brexit and leave the u.s.? honestly scared right now." it's not clear how serious they are or whether this will have

some two thousand berkeley high school students. most too young to legally cast a ballot. voicing their frustrations over the presidential election results. a resounding win for president- elect donald trump. sot- "berkeley is so popular for like starting movements and making sure that people know when something isnt right and that's what we're doing right now. we're just letting people know that this is not right." not all students joined this protest -- some stayed behind. but for those who did choose to walk out. principal sam pasarow says they won''t be punished. sot- "if this unifies in a way, i think this a potential good use of instructional time at a really pivitol moment in our modern history." the demonstration shifted to u-c berkeley. where thousands flooded the campus with genuine concern over the direction of this country under the new leadership. sot- "i just don't really want a president that has sexually assaulted women and that has uh, been really rude to almost every party that you can be offensive too." the election may be over, but it appears the division still remains.
