magnitude seven point four earthquake has struck new zealand. it happened near the city of chirstchurch. here is video of the quake as it hit inside of a home. there were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries. authorities say the quake has generated a tsunami warning. we'll keep you updated all morning on the air and through our kron four mobile app. our top story this morning. protests continue across the nation after the 20-16 presidential election and president elect donald trump. on the left of your screen, you can see protests and riots in los angeles. ten thousand people took the streets from macarthur park to downtown l-a. this for a 5th night in a row. and on the right of your screen more protests happening in portland. and police say man was shot during one of those protest in portland overnight on saturday. and police say two people have been arrested in connection to that shooting of the protester. behind me is video of the scene of the shooting. you can see the chaotic scene it became. police say the man was shot and wounded during a march. the two suspects left in a car after the incident. but later, an off-duty officer spotted the car.

and arrested the two shooters. they are both now behind bars on attempted murder charges. here is what police in portland had to say to the people in the city about the incident. >> will:police say the two that were arrested for the shooting have gang ties. the man shot is expected to survive. and here in the bay area. a group of protesters marched in oakland at macartuhur and 14th street saturday night. this is video of that protest. frutrated protestors say the donald trump is un-fit to serve. they say he is impulsive, racist and sexist. protestors say they refuse to have a leader who, in their eyes, campaigned on a platform based on hatred. social media posts are already urging people to start planning for a mass nationwide demonstatration in cities throughout the nation. including san francsco and oakland on january 20th. that's day trump will be

inaugrated. >> will:another big story we are following this morning. protesters gathered near the scene of a possible hate crime in berkley. this happened saturday when they tried to start an anti- trump and anti-white supremacy rally. that's where police say a man assaulted two berkeley students. kron four's hermela aregawi has more on how these people say trump is not their president. tonight uc berkeelyt police are looking for a man that they say spat on two students. and yelled racial and homophobic slurs at them. on tuesday, people were gathered in sporul plaza watching the elections. police say that's when the man appoached them. police say the susepct is a white male in his 50's and about 5'6 or 5'7 in height. >> reporter:students i talked to say this campus is known for being inclusive. but since election, day.something has changed. abby anderson >>:i am definitely hearing a lot more about this studd since the election. i think a lot of what trump has said has been validated since people have voted for him and that's a scary

stay with kron four for more updates on this big story. >> will:a big story this morning. donald trump is pledging restraint on twitter as president. he told sixty minutes he's going to be quote " very restrained, if i use it at all." the president elect says social media helped him win races in states where he was outspent. and he thinks he's proved how the platform can be more powerful than money. some of trump's most controversial comments have come from his tweets, often at night. a double whammy. that's how hillary clinton is describing the decision by f-b-i director james comey to take another look at her emails in the final days of the campaign. a member of clinton's finance committee says she placed at least some of the blame on comey for her stunning defeat to trump. this was during a confernece call with her donors saturday. she said the first letter comey sent to congress on october 28 stopped the momentum she built. then the second simply fired up trump supporters. and didn't help sway on the fence voters her way.

those on the call tell c-n-n clinton used it to thank her supporters and urge them to fight against divisive rhetoric. thanksgiving is right around the corner.

and volunteers around the bay area are giving back to the community. hundreds of volunteers at the san francisco marin foodbank have been ramping up to prepare for the many families in need. earlier this week a donation from a food company brought hundreds of turkeys into the foodbank's freezer. but that's not even close to the goal the organization has set for thanksgiving. in addition to turkeys the foodbank encourages donations of canned goods and other non perisiable foods. a little boy from anaheim is out of the hospital after he was attacked by dogs. his mother tried to save him but she was also attacked. this is video of the scene.caught on surveillance cameras. you can see the helpless mother.shielding her son as the dog continued to bite. luckily, neighbors were able to fight the dogs off. the family believes the canine duo was in a neighbor's yard. and somehow got loose. the mother was unscathed.but her son suffered serious injures. neighbors held the dogs after the attack until animal control officers came and took them away. four people have been killed after a suicide bombing in afghanistan. the blast happened saturday. government officials say it occurred at bagram airfield. that's the largest u-s military base in the country. the taliban released a tweet claiming responsibility for the quote "strong attack." a taliban official also said the blast was planned about four months ago. the bomber is believed to be one of those killed. at least 14 people were injured in the attac coming up next on kron four news weekend. the warriors return to the court.

was last seen before she went on a run on november second. her husband reported her missing when she did not pick up their two children from daycare. he has been ruled out as a suspect. it is unknown if papini's case is connected to the 1998 disappearance of tera smith. the 16-year-old from redding resembled papini. she was last seen in running clothes. her body was never found. big news out of san mateo county >> will:that's were where two people were arrested in connection with a car burglary. it first happened monday around noon in san bruno on masson avenue near 7th avenue park. later that evening, investigators learned the palo alto police department had encountered two people who were in possesion of several items taken during the burglary. san bruno police went to palo alto and found the thieves. the duo was arresed on suspicion of vehicle burglary, grand theft and identity theft. in the east bay.

>> reporter:an elderly man tied up during a home invasion robbery. and the robbers are still on the loose. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with the victim's son-in- law who is grateful his father- in-law survived. sot- "he's pretty shaken up" which is understandable, considering what the victim's famiily says happened here thursday afternoon. another seemingly quiet day in east fremont near canyon heights quickly turned chaotic for an elderly man living on altura place. fremont police say at least three robbers, two wearing masks, knocked on the victim's front door. and, when he answered and cracked open the door -- the victim's son-in-law, who shared his voice with us, but wishes to remain private -- says the home invaders barged in. sot- "he's very trustful and these people just took advantage of him." investigators say the robbery happened at around noon that day. one neighbor tells kron four he believes the thieves knocked on his door first -- his kids were home alone and didn't answer. instead, the elderly man fell victim. police say he was tied up, while the robbers ransacked the house. >>:sot- "the man was fortunately not injured, um, but some uh cellphone and money were taken. >> reporter:

sergeant ricardo cortes says this case has the detective unit's full attention. sot- "you're violating somebody's home, it involves violence and taking of somebody's property, so we definitely make that a high priority." now the victim's son-law says the whole neighborhood is on alert. sot- "we're reiterating for each other how we answer the door, um, anyone suspicious, be sure to you know, try to identify who they are. um, just never let your guard down, i guess." police say that its possible that the robbers were seen leaving the area in a dark colored sedan. but so far, no arrests have been made. in fremont, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> will:in bay area news. the anti-trump protest continue in san francisco. hundreds of people gathered to chant, and rally in the streets to voice their opinions against the president-elect. kron4 spencer blake has the latest. >>:"for the second day in a row there were two different anti- trump rallies in san francisco, and for the second day in a row, one of them ended here at city hall." the same anger.the same political catalyst.and many of the same chants were part of today's marches. in the castro district, about 50 or 60 people carried signs while getting visual and audible support for onlookers. "i'm supportive of marching; i think the more impactful thing is getting more involved and supporting strong political candidates that represent our values." one marcher, who wishes she could have voted in her native swing state of north carolina, says public perception is important to change.

"i decided to join the march randomly today, and i just started crying because it's overwhelming that we all feel the same way." an animal rights activist in san francisco noticed groups in the east bay have been better at mobilizing demonstrations against donald trump. on thursday, she started orchestrating this one. "we're going to have to do a lot more protests to counter any harmful policies that he passes." the group had hoped to join up with a second protest, but it got canceled. so these marchers went at it *again in the evening. their crowd grew as it approached city hall. "i don't know if anything's going to change, but i think we have to send the message that hate and intolerance are not okay." then, after dark, a *third rally formed as a candlelight vigil. once again, police stood by, and cleared the way for marchers, to keep the peaceand the rallies never turned nasty. "i am going to ask congress to send me a bill to repeal and replace, finally, obamacare. it's a disaster. under senate rules, that bill can be passed with 51 votes. 51! meaning a republican congress and a republican president can save americans from this disaster in a single afternoon." vice president-elect mike pence echoing those promises and more. vice president-elect "he is going to repeal every single obama executive order that's stifling jobs and growth in this economy. he is going to repeal obamacare lock, stock and barrel and lastly on day one of this administration, we're going to end the war on coal once and for all." on the first day of the trump administration, say goodbye to some gun-free zones too. "i will get rid of gun-free zones on schools, and - you have to - and on military bases. my first day, it gets signed, okay? my first day. there's no more gun-free zones." and if president-elect trump has his way, nafta could go away. day one he plans to notify canada and mexico that the trade deal he calls a "disaster" is officially up for renegotiation.

an ambitious first day for the president-elect. randi kaye, c-n-n orlando. an alternative to the epi-pen is set to be available in drug- stores in the first half of next year. the epi-nephrine auto-injector called auvi-q was created by twin brothers evan and eric edwards. the device talks you through what to do in case of an allergic reaction. the edwards brothers created the auvi-q because kids with allergies hate carrying around the large epi-pen. the auvi-q was recalled in 2015 due to concerns that it was not releasing the accurate dosage of epinephrine. the auto-injector is now produced on a robotic line at kaleo pharmaceuticals where each auvi-q undergoes over 100 quality checks. the food allergy research and education organization says the issues that led to the recall should not be an issue going forward.

fremont police say at least three robbers, two wearing masks, knocked on the victim's front door. and, when he answered and cracked open the door -- the victim's son-in-law, who shared his voice with us, but wishes to remain private -- says the home invaders barged in. sot- "he's very trustful and these people just took advantage of him." investigators say the robbery happened at around noon that day. one neighbor tells kron four he believes the thieves knocked on his door first -- his kids were home alone and didn't answer. instead, the elderly man fell victim. police say he was tied up, while the robbers ransacked the house. sot- "the man was fortunately not injured, um, but some uh cellphone and money were taken. sergeant ricardo cortes says this case has the detective unit's full attention. sot- "you're violating somebody's home, it involves violence and taking of somebody's property, so we definitely make that a high priority." now the victim's son-law says the whole neighborhood is on alert. sot- "we're reiterating for each other how we answer the door, um, anyone suspicious, be sure to you know, try to identify who they are. um, just never let

your guard down, i guess." police say that its possible that the robbers were seen leaving the area in a dark colored sedan. but so far, no arrests have been made. in fremont, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> will: in bay area news. the anti-trump protest continue in san francisco. hundreds of people gathered to chant, and rally in the streets to voice their opinions against the president-elect. kron4 spencer blake has the latest. >> reporter:"for the second day in a row there were two different anti-trump rallies in san francisco, and for the second day in a row, one of them ended here at city hall." the same anger.the same political catalyst.and many of the same chants were part of today's marches. in the castro district, about 50 or 60 people carried signs while getting visual and audible support for onlookers. "i'm supportive of marching; i think the more impactful thing is getting more involved and supporting strong political candidates that represent our values." one marcher, who wishes she could have voted in her native swing state of north carolina, says public perception is important to change.

"i decided to join the march randomly today, and i just started crying because it's overwhelming that we all feel the same way." an animal rights activist in san francisco noticed groups in the east bay have been better at mobilizing demonstrations against donald trump. on thursday, she started orchestrating this one. "we're going to have to do a lot more protests to counter any harmful policies that he passes." the group had hoped to join up with a second protest, but it got canceled. so these marchers went at it *again in the evening. their crowd grew as it approached city hall. "i don't know if anything's going to change, but i think we have to send the message that hate and intolerance are not okay." then, after dark, a *third rally formed as a candlelight vigil. once again, police stood by, and cleared the way for marchers, to keep the peaceand the rallies never turned nasty. she says she's always had a fear of heights. but she was finally able to muster up the courage to zip down the mall. 50 feet above the ground. here is what she had to say after the expirence. gruner is already trying to decide what her next adventure will be. the number of people smoking is on the decline. and it just recently hit an all time low. that's according to new data from the centers for disease control. researchers say the number of smokers dropped about 15- percent. from 45-million to nearly 37- million between 2005 and 2015. although the c-d-c is happy with less smokers, they say more anti-tobacco action is still needed. they say nearly half of all cancer diagnosis are linked to tobacco use. the c-d-c says smoking rates are highest among men, especially black men.
