"whose streets? our streets!" over a thousand students came from schools all across oakland, marching to the fruitvale village to protest the president elect donald trump. it was a somewhat festive atmosphere with drummers and dancers in dressed in traditional clothing. inside this mass of students i found voices of real concern about the future of this largely latino community now that donald trump has won the presidential election "i don't appreciate trump because of all the words he said about mexicans and racism and all that"

"he wants to send latinos back to the country" "my mom, she is an immigrant, my grandma she's an immigrant, basically my whole family are immigrants" "we just organized to show what is the way we can fight back" 15-year-old gema quetzal is a sophomre at oakland's life academy high school and the co- organizer of todays student protest. she echoes concerns for undocmunted immigrant members of her community being deported by president donald trump "parents, peers, our cousins, community members, our friends are undocumented, by having those comments we are scared that we are never going to see them again, we want to show him today that no matter what he says or what he does we are going to protect our people" there were also students here supporting the black lives matter movement. >> vicki:a community is mourning the death of a beloved stanislaus county sheriff's deputy.who was killed on the job sunday. catherine heenan is here with new details on the case. the stanislaus county sheriff now says that dennis wallace was shot and killed "execution style". deputy wallace was a 20-year veteran of the department and well known in the community. he was investigating a suspicious car and person sunday - when he found out the car was stolen and then asked for back-up.

but the sheriff says that in a matter of seconds -- he was murdered. the department now believes wallace was killed outside the car - with the gun held against his head. they're calling it "an execution." the suspect has been arrested.which is a relief to local residents. the suspect is david machado - who was tracked down after a manhunt that lasted hours. he was wanted on a felony warrant at the time of the stop. investigators say he was arrested after committing an armed robbery at a convenience store in the town of lindsay.and

had also tried to steal a woman's purse. in the east bay - racist graffiti has shown up at an elementary school. an investigation is now underway. kron four's terisa estacio explains who is now taking action. school officials say the racists messages against chinese, japanese and african americans were spray painted on 5 different areas on the black top here at edison elementary school in alameda. the school was having a book fair - when staff saw the graffiti.

tes: 1:48 and it isn't over - here - parents tell me there is some movement to join forces and show up with signs of unity at the highschools here in alameda later this week. in alameda, te, kron four news. >> steve:the f-b-i says the number of hate crimes reported to police. is on the rise. the f-b-i says it has increased by about 7-percent last year, led largely by a 67-percent surge in crimes against muslims. you are looking at recent video of hate crimes--- that happened right here in the bay area. civil rights groups had raised concerns about an anti-muslims backlash in the u-s even before recent attacks in paris and in san bernardino. according to new data. this is the second largest surge in hate crimes-- following the 9-11 terror attacks. however, the fbi does say a portion of the increase could be due to an increase in reporting by victims-- as well as -- better reporting and tracking by law enforcement. bart users are responding to the election outcome and a rise in hate crimes. walls at three san francisco bart stations have been turned into "walls of empathy". the temporary project was inspired by a similar one in the new york subway. post-its are being provided for travelers to leave notes of support to each other.

compete everywhere. we have to show up everywhere. we have to work at a grassroots level." a georgia father has been found guilty of murder after prosecutors say he left his son inside a hot car to die. a jury reached its verdict monday in the trial of justin ross harris. his 22-month-old son cooper died after harris left the boy in his suv while he was at work in june of 2014. harris was charged with malice murder after investigators concluded he left his child to die on purpose. they also charged him with felony murder. he was found guilty of both murder charges. defense attorneys said the boy's death was a tragic accident. the federal judge who overturned the 2007 murder conviction of brendan dassey.has ordered that he be released from prison. dassey's case gathered renewed attention thanks to the popular netflix documentary "making a murderer." >> britteny: beheads up with 3:00 p.m. in area and would like earlier thought tracker

a deputy was shot execution style in stanislaus county. now, police are working to gather information about the crime. police say, 36- year -old david machado. shot deputy dennis wallace twice in the head, at point blank range. it happened sunday morning, near fox grove park just east of modesto. deputy wallace called for backup after coming across a van that was reported stolen. moments later, he was dead. police say, david machado then fled the van and carjacked another car. hours later, they say, he tried to steal a woman's purse at a convenience store. about 150- miles south of the shooting. the woman fought back and called police. and he was later arrested. he now faces a murder charge. the man who was hit and killed when a car crashed into a san jose credit union has been identified. 49-year-old leonardo jeronimo of
