>> marty:an officer is fighting for his life after being attacked in south san francisco. officer robby chon is a 12 year veteran of the force. he is suffering from critical injuries after being hit in the head with a skateboard. the attack happened thanksgiving afternoon on grand and linden avenues. officer chon was responding to calls of a man behaving erratically. then, when he approached the man, police say 28-year-old luis ramos-coreas tried to run off. after a brief chase they say ramos-coreas knocked officer chon unconsious with a skateboard. a witness describes the moments leading up to the attack.

for your health: here is a look at some of the new medical findings released this week: more than a quarter of american children are not getting health care thay they need. this according to a new report from the non-profit children's health fund. the report finds that over three-million children in the u- s are uninsured. almost ten and a half million children are insured, but are missing regular health checks. overall. more than 20-million children in the u-s still lack access to essential health care. and divorce rates in the u-s plunge to a 35-year low. factors include the aging of the u-s population, changing gender roles. or the simple fact that not as many people are getting married. but marriage rates have remained stable. with about 32 marriages for every one-thousand unmarried women age 15 or older. utah has the highest marriage rate in the u-s, but it's divorce rate is higher than in 40 percent of states. the new data is from the national center for family and marriage research at bowling green state university in ohio. coming up next on kron four news weekend. two inmates escape from a jail in the south bay. the next steps police are taking to make sure the dangerous men are off the strets. for the weekend. it's the holiday gift fair in walnut creek. pick up a book and check out the expanded selection of items from local artists. it's happening at the ruth bancroft garden from 10:00 to 3:00. and it's free to attend.

friday there is a 20-thousand dollar reward for information that leads to the capture of rogelio chavez and loran campbell. police believe the two are still in the area after getting multiple tips from the community. they escaped by cutting through the bars of a second story window in the south wing of the jail. then they managed to drop to the ground using a rope made from bedding. both chavez and campbell have long rap sheets and are considered dangerous. the search for the two is being led by k-9 units, who have tracked the escapees more than four miles already. kron four's spencer blake shows us where the scent has taken them. >> reporter:deputies have a lot of faith in the police dogs sniffing for the two escaped inmates. "we're getting closer. the tips are coming in and we're getting closer and with the dogs - the help of the dogs really confirms where they went." lieutenant elbert rivera is leading the investigation. he says deputies got a fresh article that belonged to the inmates, which has led the dogs along the way - first west toward the guadalupe river, then north along the guadalupe trail. they got to santa clara, near levi's stadium, at the intersection of tasman and lick mill.

"once the dogs fatigue, they just stop. they don't go any further, and the handler kind of reads that and they end the search at that point." now the dogs are resting, but they'll pick up the search again sometime soon, near these apartments. "one of my neighbors - i was just talking to them - they said that the police did come here and they were questioning people and stuff." rivera says at least one person *has seen the fugitives in the area. "it just kind of worries me because i have friends and family that live in this area." after k-nines go as far as their noses take them, the next step will be to look for video cameras along the way that may have gotten a glimpse of chavez and campbell. "we will find these two, and any person who is harboring and helping or aiding and abetting in their escape, we'll attempt to prosecute." "there is some rain in the forecast over the weekend, but investigators say that could actually help the k9s as they continue the search. they say the moisture in the air kind of helps bring out the scent a little more. in santa clara county, spencer blake, kron four news."

after missing for nearly a month. a shasta county mother is safe and reunited with her husband and children. sherri papini is recovering after being kidnapped while she was out jogging on november 2nd. she was found along a rural road on thanksgiving, but there are still many unanswered questions. investigators presumably have sherri papini's story of what happened over the last three weeks. but they are releasing almost none of that information at this time. the shasta county sheriff says the 34-year-old woman was "very emotional" after being released by her captors. papini's older sister spoke briefly with reporters.

tracking the storm for you this morning. and here is a look at our bridge cams. you can see the bay bridge, san mateo bridge, golden gate bridge and the richmond bridge. take a look at this. shoppers were out, shoving their way to those doorbuster deals. and black friday shopping got violent in modesto overnight on friday. a fight broke out around midnight at the vintage faire mall. it's not clear what provoked it, but we're told security eventually responded and stopped the violence. no word yet on whether any arrests were made. >> marty:on the penninsula. a fire that killed a well known man in san mateo is now being called suspisous. this is a look at the scene friday morning. where flames can be seen bursting through the top of the home. and this is what the home looks like now. this is video courtsey of our partnership with a-b-c-7 news. people in san mateo say they are still struggling with the death of their neighbor. and as kron four's terisa estacio reports, this is the not the first time police have investigated tragedy at this home. hundreds of packages and letters were spread across part of highway-101 in millbrae when a postal worker truck driver crashed on an off-ramp.

you can see here. in this video from our helicopter partnership with a-b- c-7 news that his truck tipped on its side on friday. police say he was taking the millbrae avenue exit when he lost control of the vehicle. the postal worker is reportedly in his 60's and hit his head in the accident. there is no word yet on his condition. big news this morning as jill stein is challenging the

presidential election results. the green party presidential nominee has raised more than five-and a half million dollars in her push for a vote recount in pennsylvania, wisconsin and michigan. stein is concerned that these swing states were possibily hacked in some counties. "we have an election system that relies on computerized electronic equipment which is wide open to hacks, which has very primitive security from many cases a decade ago or more and staff really not trained in security. so it's extremely vulnerable. americans deserve to have confidence in our vote." wisconsin law calls for the state to perform a recount at a candidate's request as long as he or she can pay for it. this would be the first time wisconsin has ever done a presidential recount. and it will cost about 1- million dollars for that state alone. stein received only one point one percent of the vote in wisconsin and less than one percent in pennsylvania. six months since a 15-year-old was kidnapped in vallejo. how her family and community came together in hopes of finding her.
