most often.[take pkg] çááápkgáááñ even if you can't stand motorcycle lane splittingit áis allowed in california, and it's about to be more clearly defined."with the guidelines out there and the law passed, i've gotta say, the awareness is good for us."that's brian holm with the san francisco motorcycle club.he thinks the new law that allows the c-h-p to establish safety guidelines about lane splittingis a great one"the more aware car drivers are, the safer it is for motorcyclists, less traffic congestion, and we're more visible."but he might not like the change in vehicle registration."it's also gonna cost you ten dollars more in 2017 to get that registration sticker for your license plate. that law, however, doesn't go into effect until april first."but fortunately for vintage car owners, they can now legally use corresponding model-year plates.through 1980.parents need to know how to put their little kids in the car safely. starting sunday, anyone under two ámust be in a rear-facing car seat.and you'd better believe c-h-p will be looking for that."her seat needs to be turned around, alright? stay there for a moment. she needs to be facing to the back." another law will mean fewer car crashes have to be reported to the d-m-v.you now won't have to file a report unless there's one thousand of damage.kron four has also reported on cell phonesand how they must be ámounted and hands-free if you want to use them while driving.it's yet another change the motorcycle club is on board with."we support anything that promotes motorcycle safety."so put down the phone, turn your toddler back around, and be safe during 2017.in san francisco, spencer blake, kron four news. çááámartyáááñ[take: on cam] çáááon camáááñ a new year

also means higher wages for many workers in the bay area. [take vo]çááávo/sidepanelsáááñ the minimum wage is going up in oakland. it will rise from 12-dollars 55-cents to 12-dollars-86 cents. oakland however lags behind other bay area cities like san francisco and berkeley. the statewide minimum wage is also increasing today. it goes up to 10-dollars and 50-cents. it was previously is 10-dollars... this applies to businesses

with at least 26 employees. çááámartyáááñ[take: on cam] çáááon camáááñ this new law for 20-17 might stir some debate within the medical community.[take vo]çááávoáááñ it is called the "right-to- try" law... not to be confused with the "right to die." it gives terminally ill patients in california the option of using experimental drugs that have not received full regulatory approval. the law also protects doctors from disciplinary action if they recommend an experimental drug should all other options be exhausted. çááámartyáááñ[take: on cam] çáááon camáááñ in south bay headlines this morning... three people are behind bars for the october robbery and killing of a 17-year-old. [take vo]çááávoáááñ umberto salas was was sitting in his car with another man when police say the suspects walked up and tried to rob them. salas fought back and was shot to death... the other victim was injured and survived.[take: fullscreen] çáááfullscreenáááñ police say they have three people in custody... all of them from san jose. they are 20- year-old marcos antonio jimenez. 19-year-old marco antonio ruiz. and 19 year- old suzette angel campos.

president obama's deadline for a group of russian diplomats

to leave the u-s has ended. kron four's ella sogomonian was at the russian consulate in san francisco and has the latest.[take pkg]çááápkgáááñ ççpkgññin a facebook post the consulate general of the russian federation assured their diplomats who had no flight options from san francisco - drove to los angeles and flew back to the mother land.eleven of their employees were part of the 35 ordered by president obama to leave the country by new year's eve in response to allegations russia hacked the u.s. election.vadim svirepa, sympathizes with obama's decision"people who are considered not real diplomats but spies that's why of course obama did it because he had very strong prove of that."a different opion from most russians we spoke with who disagree with obama's decision and eagerly await a trump presidency.vadim schamis, against obama's decision"i cant believe people of the united states were able to elect and reelect president barack hussein obama. there is no reason to have a cold war again. united states and russia are the two super powers right now they should go together and try to make peace."fearing the worst the community was releived to find president vladimir putin instead chose to take no action in response. vadim skorupko, uncertain of hacking claims"putin is an intelligent person and he acted the way we anticipated he would meaning he didn't react to it at all." çááámartyáááñ çááámartyáááñ[take vo] çááávoáááñ one of the

largest utilities in vermont says it has been the target of russian hackers. the burlington electric department, said friday it found a malware code on one of it's laptops linked to recent russian hacks. the utility company says the laptop where the malware was found was not connected to their grid systems. the company says the laptop has since been isolated and the feds have been alerted officials say this kind of breach in u-s electric grids may show security vulnerability. çááámartyáááñ[take: on cam] çáááon camáááñ happening now... apple is being sued over it's facetime app.[take vo]çááávoáááñ a texas couple is accusing the company of not building a feature that would disable it while someone is driving on a highway. the couple lost their daughter in a crash involving a driver... who was reportedly using facetime at the time.

the annual goodwill "donate-a-thon" in san francisco was a success this year. the non-profit organization's busiest day of the year is ussually on new year's eve. kron four's philippe djegal explains that donors showed up in big numbers.[take pkg]çááápkgáááñ < on the final day of the year... a mad rush to help those who are struggling and could benefit from others' generousity...sot- "there are many people that need things more than i do, so happy to help out."nats- "our first 400 donors get a free movie pass." donors receive a 2016 tax benefit as well... so everybody wins in the goodwill donate-a-thon....sot- "it's nice. makes you kind of feel good -- start te new year off right. " a steady stream of cars passed in an out of the goodwill san francisco truck yard on mission street all day... among the donors? former mayor willie brown, who cleaned out his closet for those less fortunate.sot- "goodwill is a non-profit organization and what we do -- the only reason we exist is to help people with barriers to employment." bridge the goal is to keep collecting donations and hopefully fill-up 75 of these truck trailers with items... that'll help people get back

this morning for allegedly breaking into two benicia convenience stores.[take vo] çááávoáááñ bruce mckenzie from vallejo was arrested near san diego on suspicion of burglary. after mckenzie's arrest, officer's found him with a shirt they say he wore during the burglaries. and after watching surveillance cameras from both robberies, police believe mckenzie was responsible for both crimes. police say he took an undisclosed amount of money from both locations.

çááámartyáááñ[take: on cam] çáááon camáááñ in other bay area headlines... a new menorah made its debut in washington square park following the christmas day theft of a 100-pound brass menorah.[take vo]çááávoáááñ that stolen menorah has still not been found. a replacement arrived earlier this week from the east coast and it is made out of wood. people have been bringing their own menorahs to celebrate hannukah which comes to an end tonight. çááámartyáááñ[take: ots] çáááotsáááñ kron four has been highlighting some of the biggest news stories of 20-16 this past week. this morning, we look back at the lake county wildfire grant lodes shows us the terrible toll it took on a small town and the man blamed for deliberately starting it. [take pkg]çááápkgáááñ ççpkgññan explosion of flames in lake county.for many residents of lower lake august 13th, 2016 was their last time they saw their homes and most of their possessions. everything but my wife and my dog pretty much.were you able to take anything out of your house? my purse.all i could bring is my photosfire came over the mountain, just consumed our propertylooked bad. looked like a war zone, there was fire everywhere
