mark davis' plan to move to las vegas...appears to be falling apart. the raiders owner seems to have upset the one person couldn't afford to...the man who offered 650- million dollars of his own money. last night-- casino mogul sheldon adelson announced he's withdrawing from the project... and this morning--- davis lost another key asset. mark carpenter joins us with the details... mark? before today, davis maintained the las vegas project could happen with or without adelson because he could seek financing from the investment bank goldman sachs. but, now that option is may no longer be on the table... as reports say that goldman sachs would only do a deal if adelson was involved. this afternoon-- i spoke with chris dobbins,

who's part of the efforts to keep the raiders here... and he's hoping that with no investors, davis cashes out and walks away from the vegas plan. chris dobbins- "obviously it's taken a hit. and we are hoping that it's a permanent hit and mr. davis will realize that the oakland coliseum is the best place to keep the raiders and hopefully, we'll have a long term solution here in oakland." and after appearing to have so much support, mark davis' grand las vegas plan....may ultimately end up being a mirage. with no sheldon adelson or goldman sachs in his corner, the raiders owner...has to find a new billionaire friend that's willing to help bankroll...a 1-point-9 billion dollar stadium. davis maintains he's committed to moving, but with no way to pay for it, he may be forced to consider what ronnie lott has to offer. in a statement released today-- lott and the fortress investment group reinforced they have the land, the funding and the fans to keep the team in the bay area... and quote-- ''if the raiders want to stay in oakland, we are more than ready to be a partner in

making that happen.' it's been expected that nfl owners would discuss relocation when they meet in march, but dobbins thinks the only option worth talking about is having the team stay put. "without the financing there, it would definitely cause me to be concerned and that doesn't even include the relocation fee that we are gonna get a chunk of, so where's mr. davis gonna get his money from? we know that oakland is a great market for him, they've been successful there, even when they well on the field, so if i'm an nfl owner, i'm looking at this and saying, 'hey, i'm not voting for to keep the raiders in oakland." with the owners meeting in march, that means davis has a little under two months to find another financeer. but without any funding, the league may choose to stop the relocation conversation entirely. still ahead... we are going live out to super bowl city - hear from the players who attended opening night - in a live report next.

convicted in the state of texas...for fondling a minor. he now has been charged again for his offenses in san francisco. a sacramento couple was arrested for stealing liquor from four safeway stores in the north bay. according to the sonoma police department matthew robert moore and frankie nicholls stole 85 bottles worth six- thousand dollars. as you see... the stash is pretty increbidle to look at... some bottles still have the sensors attached. the couple were booked in the sonoma county jail for burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy. a new report by an international non-profit group is re-sparking conversationabout what to do with under-used stretches of freeways and interstates... in the bay area -- that includes a stretch of both interstate 280 -- and 980. catherine heenan is here with details.. you know it's not good when the report is called "freeways without futures." this is a chunk of 280 - north of 16th street....which links 101 to mission bay..

the 'congress of new urbanism' is suggesting ideas on designing and using urban spacein better ways.. the report includes an artist's rendition of how this spot in san francisco would look as a boulevard with new housing and commercial buildings.. the removal of the 280 spur would be the first fully voluntary freeway removal...and the idea has been approved by mayor ed lee. it's been talked about for years - and some hope the latest report will move things along. it's a similar story with what's considered an 'under-utilized, below-grade' stretchof 980 in oakland. one of the leading design concepts comes from a citizen-led campaign called 'connect oakland' -- and the removal is supported by mayor libby schaaf... the design shows a tree-lined boulevard intended to reconnect neighborhoods ...linking west oakland to downtown. the report says that chunk of 980 carries only 73-thousand cars
