unbelievable. it humbles yah. sotit's devastatingsothouses can be rebuilt. there just glass and wood and stuff.sot i'm just glad everyone is ok. in addition to destroying this home, the mudslide also continues to threaten the homes on either side. both have been red tagged by the city and are considered uninhabitable. one home has already suffered some damage and the other has several feet of mud in the back yard. major flooding in marin county has caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to homes and cars along the corte madera creek. this road in kentfield is now flooded

for the third time in the last few weeks. home owner, mitch levine says the water came up too fast for him to properly prepare this time. now he is left waiting for water levels to go down so he can start cleaning out the bottom level of his house. somewhat after getting a canoe ride to his house... levine was able to put on rainboots and tried to help clear out blocked storm drains on the road. he said he was just trying to make some progress before the next round of rain. meanwhile, one driver found themself caught in flood waters that submerged their car in a matter of minutes. you can see their small

white car with rescue crews on scene. firefighters came to the resuce of that driver using a kayak and jet ski. no one was injured in this incident. make sure you have the kron four app to track the storm. we'll keep you updated about weather or traffic problems in your area with breaking news push alerts. it's free for both apple and android devices. breaking overnight... one man is in critical condition this morning after a shooting in antioch. it happened at 10:00 last night on west 8th street just off of west 10th. police were responding to an unrelated call when they heard gunshots. they found a man lying in the street with several gunshot wounds. police say witnesses in the area are not cooperating with the investigation. no other details have been released. a case that could potentially go to the u-s supreme court played out in a federal court here in san francisco. three appeals

court judges heard arguments over president trump's travel ban yesterday. the judges grilled a justice department lawyers on whether the ban was intended to discriminate againt muslims. the court says it will decide as soon as possible if a lower court stay of the executive order will remain in effect. coming up.. major traffic backup on the penninsula after the storm. a closer look at a mudslide that's disrupted the roadway. and school closures in the bay area because of the severe storm. when you can expect to get your kids back into class. plus tons of water closed a busy east bay road... we have the conditions in fremont this morning after the break.

fremont this morning after severe flooding. there was approximately two feet of water on the roadway. the nearby alameda creek rose fast... bringing an enormous amounts of water and uprooting trees in its path. there were also some large problems on the penninsula. kron4's maureen kelly gives us an upclose look at some major traffic disruptions on highway- 84 in woodside. rain loosened rocks....and some big boulders came down onto highway 84 east of skyline blvd this morning.....closing off the westbound lane to traffic....and the trouble is....this was the good side of this section....the east bound side has been closed for weeks....check out the cracks in the ashplat....the ground beneath it is washing out.... this situation made worse when this stand of six redwoods fell last week....see this peg....it was a monitor put into this same section of the road back in 2006 when there was a similar problem......it's not supposed to be sticking out....it means

the road has slipped six inches.standupthe crews out here think they should have this slide cleaned up and westbound 84 back open sometime by wedneday afternoon they are hopingbut the job to reopen eastbound 84 could take six months.but this isn't the only spot where there's trouble on this road.....which below the slide is only open to locals starting from portola road...for good reason.....since there are little slides.....all over causing hazards for motorists. this one apparently took a young tree down with it, the force of teh slide, snapping it some of the newer residents are surprised to be dealing with rural problems so close to the civilization of silicon valley.a few weeks ago we had a power outage that lasted 4 days and then a tree fell and broke our water main so we didn't have water for four days.the road problems are more managable, we are glad to have power and water...i hope it stays that way.but at least 65 people who live around hwy 84 west of skyline blvd did have their power knocked out....for a chunk of the day.....when a power pole came down......another casuality of the storm.maureen kelly kron4 news.

bart service has restroed this morning after a person was struck and killed by a train. it happened between the richmond and el cerrito del norte stations just before 6:00 last night. bus service was provided by the alameda-contra costa transit district when the stations were closed. the idenity of the victim has not been released. in the north bay. several roads are closed in napa county after downed trees and mud made a mess. this mudslide covered several hundred feet along redwood road. county workers say this slide happened at around 4:00 yesterday morning. no one was injured. but roughly a thousand- people have lost power because of it. crews say such a massive mudslude could take a few days to clean up. apart. another tree fell on

power lines farther north in saint helena. this giant pine tree has caused a major power outage in that area as well. rain totals in napa county were just about 3-inches. all that wet weather caused a closure of several roads because of flooding. some of them, including big ranch road at oak knoll avenue which was able to reopen yesterday still ahead on the kron for morning news. severe weather hits other parts of the country. we'll give you a closer look at a tornado that struck new orleans. and a closer look at the bay area. here is a live look at strom tracker four. anny hong will have a full weather forecast in just a few minutes.

schools in marin county are expected to reopen this morning. but many were closed yesterday due to the storm. and there could be more closures later this week. kron four's spencer blake checked out some of the closed schools -- and talked to students. the empty parking lot at tamalpais high school almost made it look like a saturday. though tam high was one of 27 schools in marin county that

"most people were already at school when they said no school today, so it was kind of funny."it may not be as funny wednesdaywhen classes are expected to be back in session. more damage in the east bay. a large tree came crashing down, blocking access to a street in a martinez neighborhood. the tree was on the property of a man who has lived there for more than 40-years. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story "it's a shame that i lose that old guy"it is with great sadness that earl heaps gazes upon this massive oak tree on his property here at the corner of alhambra way and tahoe street in martinez. the oak came down during the storm tuesday morning and completely blocked tahoe street...very fortuitus because if the tree fell in the other direction... "it would have taken my house

in castro valley, a mudslide briefly closed down a major commute road near san ramon. a section of crow canyon road was shutdown between norris canyon road and bollinger canyon road while the slide was cleared. a lot of commuters use this section of crow canyon road to get to and from interstate-680. still ahead... an overflowing bay area creek forces evacuations. we'll show you what happened.

insurance highway 37 in marin as seen from quadcopter was closed due to flooding and the portion that wasn't physically flooded had caltrans engineers surveying so it can be raised so it won't flood in the future did you happen to notice all the cones when you came though ok you did why did you drive around them .. unfortunately, whenever a road is closed people will ignore the cones and proceed on to the roadway usually they have an excuse did you notice all the cones that are blocking all the cones that are blocking all the access here

there were cones down there the driver claimed there were no cones . and so did the next driver there was no sign on the closed roadway there are cones at every go up there i go up there with you now here is the problem if the road has been opened a flood of traffic would be rolling through at any second so where were you, 101 north and the cones are gone, there no cones no flashing arrow board no nothing no so officer barkely went back to the on ramp to see what happened to the cones ..low and behold the cones were there hash tag people behaving badly if you ignore the cones and drive on to a closed roadway you could be cited the fine for ignoring a cone pattern is 238 dollars. remember use common sense when using your gps there are cones blocking an exit keep driving the gps will reroute you. nats: ambiance if you crash or get struck after going around a cone pattern your gps wont save you or pay your fine on highway 37 in marn county stanley roberts kron 4 news

happening now... crews are still cleaning up after a massive mudslide destroyed a home in san rafael kron 4's will tran is live there this morning with a look at the damage. at around 8:00 yesterday morning, the san rafael fire department responded to reports of a tree that was about to fall. when they arrived they discovered that a mudslide had knocked down this home. the slide happened over several hours and the family that lives there was able to get out safely. neighbors passing by throughout the day say they were stunned to see what had happened.

also happening right now... part of highway 37 is closed because of the flooding from yesterday's storm. kron 4's averi harper continues our team coverage of the storm damage this morning she is live in novato with a look at the flooding. a part of highway 37 remains closed this morning because of flooding. this is video shot yesterday by our quadcopter four... you can see just how much water is on the road. the roadway is closed between highway- 101 and atherton avenue. this is the same area that flooded during the last round of storms back in january. then it was closed for several days. right now there is no estimated time for a reopening.

mountains this morning after a mudslide that hit a truck with a person inside. anny hong is here with a look at the damage and the cleanup efforts. right now only one lane of highway 17 is open in the santa cruz mountains after this mudslide. and when the mud came down the mountain it actually hit a pickup truck and covered the road. ernie huddin was inside the truck when it was hit by the mudslide. he says the slide lifted up his truck and tossed it over the center divider. he was trapped for about 10 minutes before he was able to free himself. huddin was not injured in the slide.

caltrans crews worked to shore up the hillside and clear the debris. the chp is advising motorists who rely on highway 17 to use alternate routes, including highway 129 through watsonville and highway 92 through half moon bay. back to you. and people are keeping an eye on the russian river this morning.... this is the scene in guerneville where the river is on the rise. the water isn't getting enough time to recede before another round of rain. you can see some peoples' homes are under water. people we spoke to say they have seen flooding in their neighborhood over the years, but it seems to be getting worse over time. everyone with a car had to get their vehicles out before any of them stalled in the flood waters. standup people in the area are

president trump's immigration ban. three federal judges grilled lawyers from the justice department and washington state last night as they considered whether to lift a us-wide block on president trump's travel ban. the appeals court judges sparred with attorneys over the president's use of sweeping executive power. the judges also questioned the connection between the seven affected countries and terrorism, and launched into tough questions over whether the ban discriminated against muslims. president trump says he is confident the courts will eventually rule in his favor -- finding the travel ban constitutional. believe me." legal experts say no matter how these judges rule, this case will end up in the u-s supreme court. senator elizabeth warren is silenced on the senate

boulevard in woodside. it happened yesterday morning.. closing one westbound lane to traffic. the eastbound side has already been closed for weeks due to cracks in the road... and the ground beneath it washing out. six redwood trees also fell in the area last week. people who are new to the area say they are surprised to be dealing with these problems so close to silicon valley... that way. crews say they should have the rock slide cleaned and the westbound lane reopened by this afternoon. but reopening the eastbound lane of highway-84 could take up to six months as they work to secure the road. back to you.

and yesterday's storm causing damage all across the state yesterday. take a look at this video from mariposa county. major flooding in that area all day yesterday. you can see just how fast eh water was moving. several back yards and roadways were flooded. people who live there say they have seen floods in the area before. but they say this is some of the worst they have ever seen. in a stunning moment on the u-s senate floor last night, senator elizabeth warren clashed with senate majority leader mitch mcconnell after a testy exchange. senator warren was ordered to sit down -- during the debate over attorney general nominee jeff sessions. the contention began as warren was reading from a 19-86 letter written by martin luther king jr.'s widow, coretta scott king -- opposing sessions' nomination for a federal judgeship. senator mcconnell said senator warren was breaking senate rules that don't allow senators to talk negatively about another sitting take her seat." senator warren is now

and take a look at this... kids had to be rescued from the rushing water yesterday. this is in mill valley. a kron 4 viewer sent us this picture showing a man rescuing the kids. it looks like the kids were boogie boarding in the rushing water when they got stuck. you can see a man using a rope to pull them to safety. and a viewer also sent us this video from the uvas reservoir in santa clara county. that reservoir was at 102-percent cpacity before yesterday's rain. and if you have flooding or storm damage near you we want to see it. you can send us your pictures or video through the kron 4 mobile app. just click the report it tab.

officials in east palo alto had to issue a voluntary evacuation when an apartment complex just feet away from the san fran-cis-quito creek was at risk for flooding. the evacuation has been lifted. but yesterday afternoon... tree branches and other debris from the storm ... created a dam at west bayshore road and the highway-101 bridge. all the build- up made the risk for flooding even higher. some who live at the woodland creek condominiums say they didn't want to take a chance so they left. officials who work with the san francisquito joint powers authority say they measured yesterday's creek levels...and they say it will likely rank in the top 25-highest levels that the creek has seen since 19-31. and in marin county... the flooding caused thousands of dollars in damage to homes and cars along the corte madera creek. this road in kentfield flooded for the third time in the last few weeks. one home owner says the water came up too fast for

him to properly prepare this time. now he is left waiting for water levels to go down...so he can start cleaning out the bottom level of his after getting a canoe ride to his house...mitch levine was able to put on rainboots and tried to help clear out blocked storm drains on the road. he said he was just trying to make some progress before the next round of rain. and one driver found themself caught in flood waters that submerged their car in a matter of minutes. this is also in marin county near kentfield. you can see their small white car with rescue crews on scene. fire fighters came to the resuce of that driver using a kayak and jet ski. no one was hurt. and people in santa cruz county are also dealing with a lot of flooding from the storm. this is video from the san lorenzo river overflowing

this is what the road looked like yesterday. there was approximately two feet of water on the roadway. the nearby alameda creek rose fast... bringing an enormous amounts of water and uprooting trees in its path. and we received plenty of viewer video of the storm yesterday... anny hong has pictures from a viewer of multiple kids being rescued. anny? kids had to be rescued from the rushing water yesterday. this is in mill valley. a kron 4 viewer sent us this picture showing a man rescuing the kids. it looks like the kids were boogie boarding in the rushing water when they got stuck. you can see a man using a rope to pull them to safety. still ahead ... our coverage of the storm clean up

several roads are closed in napa county after downed trees and mud made a mess. this mudslide covered several hundred feet along redwood road. county workers say this slide happened at around 4:00 yesterday morning. no one was injured. but roughly a thousand- people have lost power because of it. crews say such a massive mudslude could take a few days to clean up. apart. another tree fell on power lines farther north in saint helena. this giant pine tree has caused a major power outage in that area as well. rain totals in napa county were just about 3-inches. all that wet weather caused a closure of several roads because of flooding. some of them,
