good morning... it is friday, february 10th. i'm james let's get today started with our biggest story. weather. we saw plenty of it over this past week. especially yesterday where heavy rains caused serious damage throughout the bay area. and here is a look at some of that damage. yesterday brought overflowing rivers, downed trees and major mudslides to several parts of the bay area. we will have more on all the damage coming up. so when will we catch a break from all the rain? kron 4's rebecca strom joins us now to tell us. rebecca? toss to weather and traffic.

a cold front is pressing slowly south through the southern portion of the forecast area on thursday evening. rainfall will continue to taper off from north to south for the remainder of the evening. scattered showers are expected from late tonight through friday night as an upper level low pressure trough tracks across the area. dry weather conditions are forecast to develop by saturday. dry conditions will then persist...along with a warming trend...through the middle of next week. an active weather pattern may develop once again by the second half of next week, with the potential for heavy rain and strong winds.

and flooding has again shutdown all lanes of highway 37 in novato. the area affected is between highway- 101 and atherton avenue. cal-trans crews tried to avoid the flooding by trying to pump water off the roadway. the stretch of highway has been a trouble spot all winter long. another area that has been hit hard by flooding, guerneville. the russian river is on the rise there. kron4's hermela aregawi has more on the conditions there. sonoma county crews have closed off a 5 mile stretch of river road.. in guernville adn into rio nido to clean up a mud slide.in rio nio, more

than 100 people were without power for most of the day today after a tree in willow park fell into a powerline. sherry and dano blanchard say they expect to have their power by 11 tonight.sot sherry blanchard and dano blanchard rio nido gets trapped behind flood water, but as long as we have power, as long as we have power. so the last time it flooded a couple of weeks ago. we got the power went out but it came back on right before the flood waters. we'll get flooded in maybe tomorrow but if we have power its not a problem.this is the russian river overflowing into the streets in downtown guernville. jake hamil's lives right on the edge of the waterline.sot jake hamilthis is the worst. it's never been in my basement before.and it was approximately 4 feet a couple of weeks ago.some guernville residents had to take long detours to get to their homes. sot cecile derbes, residenton willow road, we grow grapes. usually the easiest way to go to school. it takes 20 minutes straight. but i have to go through west side road which extends the trip 20 minutes. others couldn't find a way around.sot grace bartlome, residentwell i am just looking to see how bad the road is. because on the other side of that is the house i used to live in that i need to to finish moving out of and all the roads to it are closed.

there are four roads and every one of them is flooded.but everyone we talked to had had some practice from the last few storms.. and they were taking this one in stride.sot jake hamilits mostly contruction materials and just like everyone else's basement, junk we should get rid of anyway. so it's kind of a good opportunity to clean up the basement.sot sherry blanchard and dano blanchardwhich just means store up on water store up on food, store up on champagne from korbel. the recent storm brought so much rain it turned rivers into rushing waterfalls in napa county. this explosion of overflowing water is the napa river spillway in saint helena. the violent rush of water had people pulling over on highway 128 and snapping pictures. people who live in the area say they haven't seen this

orinda has been left unlivable... after a mudslide crashed right into the home. this is video of it from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c-7 news. kron4's haaziq madyun was able to get inside to take a look at the damage. this is an overhead view of a massive mudslide in orinda from our helicopter partnership with abc-7. the slide slammed into the rear of paul vittimberga's home on van tassel way"i mean the damage to the house is significant but i think the most concerning is getting the hill right, as you can see hundreds and hundreds of tons of material up there has come down onto our land"tom zundel heard about the slide here and came to take a look because "we have a small slide that has gone into the street but what we're concerned about is a much possible slide like what has occurred here"his takeaway after seeing what the mudslide did to paul vittimberga's house..?"well i am a little more scared now than i was earlier today, i didn't think the possibility of a catastrophic event was

very high but now that i have seen this, there is a little more to be worried about" vittimberga says the mudslide happened tuesday morning at about 9:30am"i was in the bathroom right over here and i heard what sounded like a very loud thunder storm, then i came out into the room and thought maybe it was a hail storm and then i saw the wall start to come toward me"the mudslide eventually stopped but not before breaching the rear wall of his office. "unfortunately the structure underlying this bedroom buckled with the weight, probably the roof above here too, i mean the damage to the house is significant but i think the more concerning is getting the hill right and that's huge under taking, what do you do with 300 truck- loads of dirt and uh, that's a good question"his home has been red tagged by the county. he is leaving now to find a temporary place to live. he hopes when the rainy season ends he will return to find his home still standing...in orinda haaziq madyun kron4news

police in union city are looking for a theif who stuck up a girl scout cookie stand and robbed them it happened here on wednesday in front of a safeway store on decoto road. police say a teenager approached a mother and her 12 year old daughter asking about buying some girl scout cookies. he returned a short time later, pointed his gun at them and took the money from the girl's mother and ran off. the mother and daughter were not hurt. to help out, the officers donated their own money to cover the loss from the theft. and the union city police officer's association decided to purchase all of the girl's remaining boxes of a warning for parents.... police are looking for a man who tried to lure a teenage girl into his car twice in two days. it all happened in fairfield on beck avenue near cadenasso drive... the first incident happened wednesday. and the second one happened yesterday. both at 7:15

in the morning. in both incidents the person drove up and stopped near the 15- year-old and asked her if she needed a ride. the teen declined both times and walked away. after the first incident, the driver pulled into a parking lot, circled around, and drove past her again. it wasn't until a short time after the second incident the teen filed a report with a police officer because she felt she was being followed. police are looking for this s-u-v you see here... they believe it is an early 2000's lincoln navigator. another big story we are following this morning... a federal court panel has ruled president donald trump's controversial travel ban will remain on hold. that unanimous ruling came from the federal appeals court in san francisco. and now president trump is reacting to the outcome. andy rose reports has the details.

wb 80 is less then 30 min from the maze to sf. san mateo bridge less then 30 min from 880 to 101. golden gat bridge drive time less than 30 min from 37 to the toll plaza. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 if you're a daily bart rider, you already know how hard it is to get a seat on it. well that's about to get a lot harder as big changes are coming. bart says they will be removing seats from their trains. the board says the reason they are doing this is to deal with with bart's over-crowding problem. yes, a new, updated fleet of bart cars is on the way. but, for now, bart says this will make life better for passengers in the meantime. more than 25-hundred seats will be taken out of 360 bart cars. they will be taken from one side of the cars. and they'll be removed from the middle sections which tend to get the most crowded. it will take nine months to a year to get the seats out.

bart estimates 14 extra people will be able to fit on each car once the seats are gone. the project will cost one- point-seven million dollars. but bart will only have to pay about 200 thousand of that. the rest comes from the fedeeral government to promote public transit. the new bart fleet is expected to be rolled out starting in 20-18. and ending in 20-23. officials also voted on a plan to build 20 new bike lockers at bart stations. that project will cost nearly half a million dollars. coming up... more on the damage the storm left behind. why neighbors say they aren't surpised this tree ended up on that home. and... flooding is causing one bay area city money. we'll tell you how. and we are getting a break from the rain today but will it last? a look at your weekend weather and here's a

101 take a look a this... a massive tree came crashing down on a garage in mill valley... and neighbors say it was no surprise. those who live along morning sun avenue say tree service workers were out there on wednesday. and said this tree needed to go. but the weather acted faster than homeowners could. luckily no one was home when it came crashing down. now the

lightening up today, flooding remains a concern in some areas. the petaluma river in southern sonoma county has reached its' flood stage. kron4's charles clifford shows us the flooding problems in the area. natsthursday afternoon, heavy rain in and around petaluma flooded roadways and pushed the petaluma river to the edge of it's banks.sotpretty wild. bradley cox came to check it outsotit's beautifull. the first time being this close to it. a little mucky but that happens with a flood.natsto the north of town, flooding water stretched across miles of low lying fields. many of the country roads through this area flooded in low lying spots.natsnatsnear downtown, heavy rain returned briefly in the afternoon. forcing people to reluctantly pull out there umbrellas. . . again.nats

despite the rain, skip lobianca took his dog out for a walk. he doesn't mind the moisture, but says it's starting to feel like they've gotten enough.sotit hasn't been bad. i just fear for he people who' been flooded and the rain has affected them negatively.. a few miles to the south in marin county, the highway patrol had to once again close highway 37 in both directions due to flooding around 1pm. drivers will now have to detour along atheron avenue. the chp says they don't yet know when the roadway will reopen but estimate that it could be sometime next week. still ahead... the bay area isn't the only place

finally, a tow truck arrives and we move on to the next problem or should i say mystery what's wrong there has been another solo spinout . one of dozens except time, something is missing or should i say someone the driver the only people there were two people in a white pickup truck. the first thing that needs to be done is get the abandoned car over to the shoulder so it gets pushed nats ambiance the chp now has to figure out who the abandoned car belongs too because the only people around were the two people in the truck and the nearest exit was more than 3 miles away get this the passenger in the truck his first name was the first name of the registered owner of the car but he had no id i let my mom borrow it. because she is doing me an appointment so after trying to sort fact from fiction officer montiel takes a photo of the passenger with the car and sends them on their way after further investigation officers determined he was not the driver because someone later called 911 and reported that he was picked up off the freeway important to note you should never abandon your car in lanes of traffic if you happen to crash all the crashes could have been avoided if drivers would simply slow down, oh and by the way the first driver, who claimed he was going 45 to 50 miles per hour next thing you know i was thinking about possibly spinning i started spinning i think i spun about 3 times and then the car just stopped the chp estimated his speed around 70 on highway 280 in san mateo county stanley roberts kron 4 news

latest closure. and once again flooding has shut down all lanes of highway 37 in novato between highway 101 and atherton avenue. cal trans crews spent the day yesterday trying to pump the water off the roadway. this stretch of the highway as been a trouble spot all winter long. the road was also shutdown several times last month because of all the rain.

the construction company, "granite rock" tweeted out this picture.... saying they lost a beloved member of their team. it happened yesterday afternoon at around 12:15. the two workers were hit by a dump truck clearing out dirt from tuesday's mudslide. officers were able to rescue one of the men trapped underneath the truck. c-h-p says they are gathering statements from witnesses involved in the accident. the northbound lanes on highway 17, between vine hill and sugar loaf, south of the summit, are closed. traffic is getting through on the southbound side with one lane being use for those heading north. given yesterday's deadly accident, it is unclear when the road will be fully re-opened.

to guerneville the russian river flooded yesterday... and levels are still rising. and flooding isn't the only problem a five mile stretch of river road has been closed off as crews clean up a mudslide. more than 100 people in that area were without power for most of the day yesterday after a tree fell into a powerline. people who live near the russian river say the flooding has been especially bad this winter. basement. several basement. several people haven't been able to leave their homes... and others have to take long detours as the roads around their homes are flooded. the river has reached flood stage this morning... and it is expected to crest at 35-point-seven feet this afternoon.

question" the home is no longer safe to live in. paul is now trying to find a temporary place to live. he says when the rainy season is over, he will assess the damage and see if he's able to repair the damages. and the bay area is not the only place dealing with damage from the recent storms. this was the scene in the town of portola... near the nevada state line. the feather river overflowing and causing serious flooding on roads and in parking lots. some people in the town even had water come into their homes. one woman says she has lived in the town for 60 years and has never seen flooding like this. happening now... police in berkeley investigating four robberies that happened in four days and now they think they may be connected. all of the victims were people at cafes. the first robbery

just about five minutes. you will soon have fewer places to sit on bart trains. the bart board of directors voted last night to remove thousands of seats from hundreds of trains. they say that removing the seats will actually help with overcrowding. more than 350 cars will have the seats removed from one side. bart officials say... taking out the seats will allow space for 14 more passengers per car. it will take about nine months to a year to remove all of the seats. the project will cost more than a million dollars but most of the money will come from a federal grant that is aimed at promoting public transit. breaking from overnight - a plane catches fire at j-f-k airport and we just got pictures of the sparks flying. take a look at these

in the north bay... a massive tree crashes down on a garage in mill valley. fortunately nobody was home when the 100 foot tree fell over yesterday. people who live along morning sun avenue say tree service workers were out there earlier in the week trying to prevent something like this from happening but the storm moved in before they could take care of the tree.

now the area around the garage has been taped off until a crew can get there to remove the tree. and during yesterday's storm the petaluma rive in southern sonoma county reached it's flood stage. flooding water stretched across miles of low lying fields. many of the roads through the area flooded in low lying spots. and while some people in the area say they don't mind the rain... most agree they've had enough. the small coastal town of pescadero, which is about 20- miles south of half moon bay was hit hard by the rain and flooding. pescadero creek road was shutdown because of the flooding. that flooding made it almost impossible to get into town. pescadero creek road is the main route off of highway 1 into downtown pescadero. 4 cars had to be rescued as they tried to drive through the flood waters. the storms also forced a lot of local businesses to close. people who live in the area say the storms this week have brought some of the worst

one worker is dead and another injured after trying to clear a mudslide on highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains. the construction company, "granite rock" tweeted out this picture.... saying they lost a beloved member of their team. it happened yesterday afternoon at around 12:15. the two workers were hit by a dump truck clearing out dirt from tuesday's mudslide. officers were able to rescue one of the men trapped underneath the truck. c-h-p says they are gathering statements from witnesses involved in the accident. the northbound lanes on highway 17, between vine hill and sugar loaf, south of the summit, are closed. traffic is getting through on the southbound side with one lane being use for those heading north. given yesterday's deadly accident, it is unclear when the road will be fully re-opened.

crews clean up a mudslide. more than 100 people in that area were without power for most of the day yesterday after a tree fell into a powerline. people who live near the russian river say the flooding has been especially bad this winter. basement. several people haven't been able to leave their homes... and others have to take long detours as the roads around their homes are flooded. the river has reached flood stage this morning... and it is expected to crest at 35- point-nine feet this afternoon.
