morning... the storm may be over... but it left major problems around the bay area... the bay area now dealing with major road closures and some seem to be getting worse. one of those road closures highway- 35 in los gatos. kron 4's ella sogomonian has a look at the huge repair job. this is what's left of skyline road just west of las cumbres road.the video courtesy of santa cruz resident jake gould who was on the scene when it happened.a gaping wide hole split open as the road succmbed to heavy saturation. the region that sits in the middle of ella sogomonian"now you can't really see behind me but this is now where that road ends."the hole is estimated to be 200 feet wide and a quarter mile deepwith sr 9 and 17 closures as well - drivers are having to detour up to an hour away using bear creek and black roads."

the c-h-p says that portion of skyline boulevard is now closed indefintiely. the southbound lanes of highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains are back open after a massive mudslide shut down that highway. the decision to re-open the northbound side will be made later this afternoon. engineers are still trying to figure out the best way to clean up the mess left behind by the mudslide. and minimize the chance of yet another one. the clean-up work has proven to be very dangerous. on thursday, two contractors working for caltrans were run over by a dump-truck trying to clear the road. one of them died, the other was seriously injured. still no word on when highway 37 in the north bay will reopen. drivers cannot get through atherton avenue and highway- 101 in novato because of flooding

this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news.. caltrans crews have been working around the clock pumping the water out. this is the 4th straight day that section of the highway has been closed. on thursday, one eastbound lane was briefly opened, but more rain once again covered the highway and made it impassable. if you are thinking about heading out to tahoe for the weekend, you're going to need a lot of patience. many of the highways leading up to the sierra are closed. highway -50 near pollock pines remains closed. a mudslide is blocking all lanes on that road. the c-h-p says there is a chance that road can reopen today. and one lane of interstate -80 in the sierra is now open. the interstate was shutdown due to a mudslide near baxter. in the east bay... an orinda homeowner is dealing with more mud in whats left of his home. a mudslide destroyed part of it earlier this week.

it happened during thursday's storm. the home owner says he was inside his bathroom in the back of his house when the mudslide hit. he had to climb over the rubble to escape. neighbors are worried that the area is unstable and are afraid that their property is now at risk as well. they are okay the house where the mudslide hit has been red tagged, meaning it's unsafe to go inside. some neighboring homes are yellow tagged meaning people need to use caution when entering. and don't forget you can track the storm on the go with the free kron 4 mobile app. you can watch live radar and get updates on traffic problems and breaking news through push alerts. happening today... the giants will be hosting several thousand of their

in the south bay... rising reservoirs have water managers scrambling to keep things under control. many people are stopping by anderson lake just to look at the water gushing 15 to 20 feet in the air. because of seismic concerns, regulators say the 60-year-old dam should only hold 68% of the reservoir's capacity.

right now it's at 93 percent capacity. so the santa clara valley water district opened the outflow completely in anderson park. not that big." but they won't make much headway, even during the dry spell of the next few days. this because the runoff coming into the lake is coming in at five times the outflow amount. the reservoir will still be inching up slowly until next week's storms, when the water district expects it to fill to capacity. the rains stopped just in time to avert a crisis at that crumbling spillway at lake oroville. state water officials say they won't have to use an emergency spillway afterall .... a move that could have had catastrophic consequences downstream. kron four's grant lodes gives us a closer look at what's happening.

water will continue to pour down the concrete spillway.the bottom half is almost completely eroded away.you can see the water turning brown as it flows out of the breach and onto the surrounding hillside. with the water in lake oroville just five feet from the top of the dam, officials had been predicting they'd have to use an emergency spillway to the left.here's how it looks on google earth. it would spill water onto open land, potentially sending a tidal wave of trees and debris into the feather river below. today, they said that won't be necessary.lake oroville is one state's the biggest reservoirs. it's currently at 96 percent of capacity ... nearly 150 percent of its historical average at this time of year. shasta, the biggest in the state, is at 92 percent of capacity, also well above average.smaller trinity lake nearby, is two=thirds full, about average.east of sacramento, folsom lake is three quarters full, 141 percent of normal.and new melones lake, a vital water source for central valley farmers, is just half full, still below average,

that was kron four's grant lodes reporting. the storms are filling up the reservoirs ... but another factor is the unseasonably warm weather that is melting the snow pack... thats the source of a lot of the state's water throughout the year. in the north bay... the sonoma county sheriff's office released a picture of a shoe.. it's similar to the one that washed ashore on doran beach tuesday that contained remains of a human foot. the shoe was found south of bodega bay. officials have not released information about the remains found in the shoe. we will continue to follow this story on kron four and on kron four dot in the east bay. police are investigating more than two dozen cars burglaries in san ramon, danville and blackhawk. authorities believe the crimes are connected. kron four's lydia pantazes talked to concerned drivers.

along decoto road, where the girl and her mom were selling girl scout cookies. according to police, the suspect approached them twice. the first time he only asked about buying cookies but moments later he returned, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the pair.the suspect was last seen fleeing through the safeway parking lot. the 12-year-old and her mother were upset but uninjured. so far, investigators have not been able to identify him but are hoping this sketch will help lead to an arrest.he is described as being a black male in his late teens, 5'4"-5'6". at the time of the robbery he was wearing dark clothing and a hooded sweat shirt.in a statement, the girl scouts of northern califronia say "the parent involved stated that although they were initially shaken, they will continue to sell cookies, and specifically asked us to tell other girls and parents to "be safe, and be vigilant"

in the south bay... rising reservoirs have water managers scrambling to keep things under control. many people are stopping by anderson lake just to look at the water gushing 15 to 20 feet in the air. because

of seismic concerns, regulators say the 60-year-old dam should only hold 68% of the reservoir's capacity. right now it's at 93 percent capacity. so the santa clara valley water district opened the outflow completely in anderson park. not that big." but they won't make much headway, even during the dry spell of the next few days. this because the runoff coming into the lake is coming in at five times the outflow amount. the reservoir will still be inching up slowly until next week's storms, when the water district expects it to fill to capacity. the rains stopped just in time to avert a crisis at that crumbling spillway at lake oroville. state water officials say they won't have to use an emergency spillway afterall .... a move that

could have had catastrophic consequences downstream. kron four's grant lodes gives us a closer look at what's happening. water will continue to pour down the concrete spillway.the bottom half is almost completely eroded away.you can see the water turning brown as it flows out of the breach and onto the surrounding hillside. with the water in lake oroville just five feet from the top of the dam, officials had been predicting they'd have to use an emergency spillway to the left.here's how it looks on google earth. it would spill water onto open land, potentially sending a tidal wave of trees and debris into the feather river below. today, they said that won't be necessary.lake oroville is one state's the biggest reservoirs. it's currently at 96 percent of capacity ... nearly 150 percent of its historical average at this time of year. shasta, the biggest in the state, is at 92 percent of

capacity, also well above average.smaller trinity lake nearby, is two=thirds full, about average.east of sacramento, folsom lake is three quarters full, 141 percent of normal.melones lake, a vital water source for farmers, is just half full, still average, that was kron four's grant lodes reporting. the storms are filling up the reservoirs ... but another factor is the unseasonably warm weather that is melting the snow pack... thats the source of a lot of the state's water throughout the year. breaking news.. a man is in jail this morning for allgedley killing his wife. it happened on the 2000 block of burgundy way in fairfield. police arrived at the scene last night, shortly after 6:30. they entered the home and found a dead 50-year-old woman with stab wounds. they then found her suspected killer on the 1600 block of trancas blvd in napa. he is being charged with homicide.

in the east bay. police are investigating more than two dozen cars burglaries in san ramon, danville and blackhawk. authorities believe the crimes are connected. kron four's lydia pantazes talked to concerned drivers. robbed a 12-year-old girl scout and her mother at gunpoint this past wednesday. the robbery allegedly occurred just outside this safeway along decoto road, where the girl and her mom were selling girl scout cookies. according to police, the suspect approached them twice. the first time he only asked about buying cookies but moments later he returned, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the pair.the suspect was last seen fleeing through the safeway parking lot. the 12-year-old and her mother were upset but uninjured. so far, investigators have not been able to identify him but are hoping this sketch will help lead to an arrest.he is described as being a black male in his late teens, 5'4"-5'6". at the time of the robbery he was wearing dark clothing and a hooded sweat shirt.in a statement, the girl scouts of northern califronia say "the parent involved stated that although they were initially shaken, they will continue to sell cookies, and specifically asked us to tell other girls and parents to "be safe, and be vigilant"

is being charged with homicide. our top story this morning... the storm may be over... but it left major problems around the bay area... the bay area now dealing with major road closures and some seem to be getting worse. one of those road closures highway- 35 in los gatos. kron 4's ella sogomonian has a look at the huge repair job. this is what's left of skyline road just west of las cumbres road.the video courtesy of santa cruz resident jake gould who was on the scene when it happened.a gaping wide hole split open as the road succmbed to heavy saturation. the region that sits in the middle of ella sogomonian"now you can't really see behind me but this is now where that road ends."the hole is estimated to be 200 feet wide and a quarter mile deepwith sr 9 and 17 closures as well - drivers are having to detour up to an hour away using bear creek and black roads."

the c-h-p says that portion of skyline boulevard is now closed indefintiely. the southbound lanes of highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains are back open after a massive mudslide shut down that highway. the decision to re-open the northbound side will be made later this afternoon. engineers are still trying to figure out the best way to clean up the mess left behind by the mudslide. and minimize the chance of yet another one. the clean-up work has proven to be very dangerous. on thursday, two contractors working for caltrans were run over by a dump-truck trying to clear the road. one of them died, the other was seriously injured. still no word on when highway 37 in the north bay will reopen. drivers cannot get through atherton avenue and highway- 101 in novato because of flooding

this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news.. caltrans crews have been working around the clock pumping the water out. this is the 4th straight day that section of the highway has been closed. on thursday, one eastbound lane was briefly opened, but more rain once again covered the highway and made it impassable. if you are thinking about heading out to tahoe for the weekend, you're going to need a lot of patience. many of the highways leading up to the sierra are closed. highway -50 near pollock pines remains closed. a mudslide is blocking all lanes on that road. the c-h-p says there is a chance that road can reopen today. and one lane of interstate -80 in the sierra is now open. the interstate was shutdown due to a mudslide near baxter. and don't forget you can track the storm on the go with the free kron 4 mobile app. you can watch live radar and get updates on traffic problems and breaking news through push alerts.

part of the russian river region in sonoma county is still dealing with flooding... this is video from quadcopter four. the pee wee golf center is partially underwater. it has been a rough couple of months along the russian river. and while the damage is bad, the russian river did not rise as much as was expected. kron 4's hermela aregawi visited the area and shows us who was hit the worst. well, the county estimates about 600 people are displaced. so they set up a shelter.but those most affected by the floods.. are dealing with it on their own.this is how some people in guerneville are getting around tonight.the road to their homescompletely under water.here's how it looks from the sky courtesy of our partnership with abc 7.the

the area. kron4's haaziq madyun talked to people who live in orinda who are on high alert. the storms of 2017 have taken a toll on residents here in the east bay town of orinda "between the sink hole on minor road and this hill coming down, i feel like the little town of orinda is falling"during tuesday's storm this hill behind paul vittimberga's home came crashing into the back bathroom...while he was inside "about 9:30 in the morning and i was right in this bathroom over here"he told me that he actually had to climb over the rumble to get out of the bathroom. "i couldn't imagine it coming into my house" his neighbor hillary fabian recalls hearing mudslide slam

into vittimberga's home "it went on for about a minute, we were in bed and we heard what sounded like a very long clap of thunder with no lightening"as the rain continued wednesday and thursday more mud came down pushing even further inside her neighbor's home"it's devastating, obviously, i can't believe it happened in our area but i am glad that they are okay"the home has been red tagged. a yellow tag has been placed on the residence next door. it too rests at the bottom of the rain soaked hill. ... on friday the civil engineers took adavanatge of the break in the weather to examine the situation up close. they say they now have a better understanding of the what it will take to remove tons of debris. they just hope the weather will stay dry long enough for them to get the work in orinda haaziq madyun kron4news breaking news just in to the kron 4 news room, the c-h-p says they have opened up one lane in both the southbound and northbound directions of higway 17 in santa cruz. they advise people to still use caution and drive safely in the area and around the mudslide.
