thanks averi. another big story this morning. more than 500 volunteers took to the streets of san jose to help those who lost everything after major

flooding. emergency crews say more than a thousand homes are still in bad shape this morning. kron four's j-r stone shows us how volunteers were able to help. the massive cleanup in san jose continued saturday. flood victims we talked with say the water may be gone but their life is still far from normal.sot i've been out of work for a week trying to take out all the damaged stuff.and damaged stuff there is. saturday afternoon emergency crews announced the number of homes in the affected areas and the number of homes still damaged.sot 4,554 units where in the mandatory evacuation area of this 1,335 remain restricted.saturday more than 500 volunteers hit the streets to help flood victims clean up. sot i'm expecting to see a lot of mess and hopefully when we leave it will be a lot better sot you never know when things like this are going to happen so it's great when we can come together on short notice to do some good.emergency crews tell us that there are now more

than 40 city, county, and state inspectors going home to home. they are assessing the damage and will submit their findings on monday. all in hopes of aquiring federal funds to help those dealing with the loss of everything. victims who happy for the volunteers that helped lend a hand on saturday.sot it's great, it's greatwe going to have to own and it's a great help. that was kron four's j-r stone reporting. san jose mayor sam liccardo also took a brief moment to attend a ground breaking for a new condominum complex... but it came with a special contribution. mayor liccardo spoke at the ceremony saturday afternoon. but the main part of the event was the donation presented to the city of san jose. liccardo accepted a check from a company to support victims of the flood.

during the ground breaking ceremony... the c-e-o of silicon-sage announced the company will be matching donations to the flood relief fund. in national headlines. terror at the mardi gras parade in new orleans. 28 people, including children and an police officer are recovering from injuries this morning after a truck plows into a crowd... the crash happened just before 6:00 last night. 21 people were taken to the hospital and seven others declined medical treatment. five victims are suffering from serious injuries this morning... but none of them are life- threatening. police say the driver of the truck appeared to be extremely intoxicated and is being investigated. one witness describes the chaotic scene. was alright." the new orleans police

here are the stories from the week -- that could impact your bottom line. looks like banks are cashing in on your a-t-m and overdraft fees. it turns out those dollars you pay to get your own money out of an a-t-m machine is providing big profits to america's three biggest banks. "jpmorgan chase", "bank of america" and "wells fargo" earned close to 6-and a half billion dollars last year from atm and overdraft fees. that works out to about 25 dollars for every adult. despite some public outcry over the charges, it's highly unlikely banks will scale back on fees. i have a full forecast straight ahead. for the weekned... it's the clam chowder cook-off in santa cruz. come out and try clam chowder made by chefs from all over the west

big crowds turned out in santa rosa for a town hall meeting focused on the affordable care act. u.s. representative mike thompson and state senator mike mcguire spoke with attendess at piner high school. the meeting, discussed ways to continue coverage for the 3 million californians under "obamacare". people at the meeting say access to affordable care is a basic human right. president trump says his replacement for "obamacare" will be introduced sometime next month. another big story we are following this morning.. across the country, people are gathering to weigh in on president trump's agenda, and the potential of the new congress to reshape government. deborah feyerick shows us some of the heated town hall meetings across the country.. boo!!!republican lawmakers -- confronted by furious constituents in town halls across the country. webster town hall"do your job, do your job!"in florida -- rowdy

room. a school district is helping flood victims in san jose's rock springs neighborhood recover from the flooding that forced the evacuation of thousands of people last week. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with a family grateful for the hearfelt helping hand. nats- "hi, we're just getting things." a family comforted by supportive staff from the franklin mckinley school district. olga perez's 12-year-old daughter yesenia and 11-year-old son esaul attend classes at shirakawa elementary school... now a donation center.sot- "take as much as you want." their bottom floor apartment on nordale avenue too dangerous to enter... the perez family hasn't been back inside it since it flooded tuesday...sot- "get this for dad?" olga says the donations they're receving from members of their own community are a tremendous help... survival tools to get her husband and children through this difficult time. sot- "sometimes i'm doing good -- i say i'm going to be ok, and then i remember what i lost and that i'm not in my house -- i'm living with my sister. i feel like i'm invading the place, so. it's

not easy. no, its not."bridge the school district says its been overwhelmed by the amount of donations pouring in from the community... a lot of clothes and a lot of food... and, the school district says because of that, they'll be able to continue handing all of this stuff out to needy families through out next week.sot- "the heart of this community is huge." nordale avenue, on this day, looks a lot different than it did on thursday. the flood waters have receeded... but the fire department says just a few buildings in the area are green tagged and could soon house families... but most apartments are still yellow tagged -- families can only grab items, but not move back in. not until their homes have been decontaminated.sot- "it's hard to process, get it through your brain that everything is just lost and gone."sot- "we have to be strong, because if we let everything down, that's just gonna make us even more weak."nats- "too small." the school district will continue accepting donations for the near future.sot- "and, if you can't come here, we have a gofundme page. website is gofundme.com/shi rakawafamilies." much appreciated by the perez family -- down on their luck... but certainly not alone. sot- "i'm thankful to god that we got out of there together and we're safe and yeah, we're ok." in san jose, philippe djegal, kron four news.

in the north bay... police in santa rosa are investigating a double homicide after two bodies were found four miles apart from one another. kron4's lydia pantazes reports that police believe thwe two cases are related. at about 10:30 saturday morning police were called to this home on the 2600 block of valley center following reports of an injured person. but once they went inside they found a man dead."and i just walked out this morning and there was a bunch of cops, the other night i did hear a rustle. like a little bang."

johnny mason lives a few houses down from the crime scene on valley center drive. he says a father and son lived in the home.mason says he frequently saw the father outside the home.""he was a cool dude, really into his bike and stuff."police said they have a suspect in custody on unrelated charges.that person is 32-year old dalton carlsonhe was arrested friday on drug charges and once the bodies were found, police kept him in custody.carlson car was found near glenbrook and heather drives in santa rosa about 12:30 on saturday.at about the same time detectives were investigating the car, they got a call about a woman dead inside a home in the 1500 block of glenn brook drive.... police believe both homicides are connected but haven't a cause of death.neighbors say a family lives in the home."it's pretty quiet so that's why i think it's such a big deal for everybody."julie kitchens has lived in the neighborhood for five years...she says despite what happened she still feels safe in her neighborhood. "neighbors look out for neighbors, we hear things and everybody has dogs and that's why it feels so safe is because everyone kind of looking out for each other."

police are asking for help identifying a man who they say robbed a store at gunpoint in pacifica. it happened at a rite-aid at the fairmont shopping center. officers say the suspect jumped over the pharmacy counter and demanded prescription drugs. police say the pharmacist was able to distract the robber, who then ran away without taking anything. police describe him as a white man in his 20's. at the time he was wearing a black baseball cap and a black hoodie. police say he was last seen running towards gateway drive in pacifica. new this morning... a republican congressman is calling for a special prosecutor to investigate whether russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and was in touch with president donald trump's team during the campaign. soutnern california lawmaker

in california news... several fresno high school students got sick after eating drug-laced cookies. seven freshman students were sent to the hospital on friday. fresno police say the cookies may have contained

a mixture of drugs. officers say symptoms ranged from dizziness to stomach pain. no word on who baked or gave the cookies to the students. over 140 million gallons of raw sewage spilled into the tijuana river in mexico. the sewage flowed north of the mexican border for over two weeks. this is a photo of the river. residents in the area complained about a growing stench. the spill happened on february 9th after a rupture in a sewage collector pipe. and wasn't contained until thursday. the river drains into the pacific ocean on the u.s. side of the border. authorities are now investigating the spill and it's aftermath. in national news... former labor secretary tom perez has been elected as the new chairman of the democtatic national committee. perez won in a 235-to-200 vote over minnesota representative-- keith ellison. erin ade has the details. donna brazile / fmr. interim chairwoman: "it is my honor

found four miles apart from one another. kron4's lydia pantazes reports that police believe thwe two cases are related. at about 10:30 saturday morning police were called to this home on the 2600 block of valley center following reports of an injured person. but once they went inside they found a man dead."and i just walked out this morning and there was a bunch of cops, the other night i did hear a rustle. like a little bang." johnny mason lives a few houses down from the crime scene on valley center drive. he says a father and son lived in the home.mason says he frequently saw the father outside the home.""he was a cool dude, really into his bike and stuff."police said they have a suspect in custody on unrelated charges.that person is 32-year old dalton carlsonhe was arrested friday on drug charges and once the bodies were found, police kept him in custody.carlson car was found near glenbrook and heather drives in santa rosa about 12:30 on saturday.at about the same time detectives were investigating the car, they got a call about a woman dead inside a home in the 1500 block of glenn brook drive.... police believe both homicides

another big story this morning. more than 500 volunteers took to the streets of san jose to help those who lost everything after major flooding. emergency crews say more than a thousand homes are still in bad shape this morning. kron four's j-r stone shows us how volunteers were able to help. the massive cleanup in san jose continued saturday. flood victims we talked with say the water may be gone but their life is still far from normal.sot i've been out of work for a week trying to take out all the damaged stuff.and damaged stuff there is. saturday afternoon emergency crews announced the number of homes in the affected areas and the number of homes still damaged.sot 4,554 units where in the mandatory evacuation area of this 1,335 remain restricted.saturday more than 500 volunteers hit the streets to help flood victims clean up.
