january...the 21-year-old allegedly robbed the bank of america in scotts valley. police say he then led them on an hours long manhunt during which he stole an unmarked law enforcement car. highway 17 - was shutdown for hours as police tried to find him. officers spotted the stolen law enforcement car at an apartment complex in san jose - and eventually located vargas. he was then arrested along with two other people. now to the south bay -- where the clean-up continues - after the mess made by the coyote creek flood. damage to private property has been getting most of the attention - includingthe plight of residents who lost everything. but as we hear in this live report now from kron four's rob fladeboe, the flood also tooka heavy toll on the public sector. rob? ááááánats swamped by floodwaters when

a woman in vallejo was awakened by the sound of burglars kicking-in the back door of her home the frightening situation happened in the middle of the day in an north bay neighborhood. the crime was captured on surveillance video the homeowner says there's an ongoing problem with burglaries... and as kron4's haaziq madyun reports...this is the ásecondá time burglars have targeted this particular home. "this is as far as i got, i just went like that, then the dogs were right here trying to alert me, barking at me, then i just backed up"and the reason that you backed up is? the identities of the three people killed in a small plane crash in southern californiahave now been publicly confirmed.. the plane was headed to san jose from riverside when it crashed into two homes just moments after take-off monday. the people on board had flown to disneyland to support a

a school in sacramento for students with special needs is looking for answers after being badly vandalized last week. it happened at the laurel ruff center....a school that helps more than 100-students with disabilities transition into the working world after high school. last week vandals broke in... destroyed a bathroom...

ransacked a room full of donated clothes students use for job interviews...and threw tons of classroom supplys..even wheelcharis into the swimming pool.. the community is left trying to figure out why anyone would do this.. i don't understand why someone would come onto this campus and do this to a school for students with disabilities. everything in the room was thrown into the pool, water was left on, there was about two inches of water flooding the whole area. police are still looking for the people responsible. police are investigating. after video surfaced of fishermen reeling in what appears to be a juvenile great white shark in huntington beach. it's unclear what happened to the shark after it was hauled onto the pier last week. the video has been seen thousands of times on you- tube.... it cuts off as the shark is grabbed by a large hook...and pulled over the pier's railing.

three young puppies are recovering after being trapped under a portable classroom in salinas during the recent storm. students and teachers at gavilan view middle school started hearing what sounded like whimpering under their classroom. two staff members were able to dig

their way under and this is what they found.. a litter of puppies.. unfortunately two did not make it..but three were found alive. one of the teachers kept them warm while waiting for the s-p-c-a to arrive.. and a little twist to the story... a dog was found in that area five days before the puppies were rescued.. s-p-c-a workers don't know whether she's the mother -- but once she was introduced to the puppies to the dog...she took them in as if they were her own. the puppies are expected to be up for adoption in two months.

a big story tonight: arrests have been made in freeway shooting that targeted an off duty oakland police officer. the shooting itself happened overnight...alo ng southbound...interstate 880 right near 16th avenue... there was a chase... and it took officers into east oakland. police tracked down the suspects car on brookdale... but there was no sign of them. late this afternoon we learned two people have been taken into custody. kron 4's dan kerman is following this story ... he joins us live from police headquarters in oakland with an update. dan?

oakland police have taken two people into custody in connection with wednesday night's freeway shooting involving an off duty oakland police officer.sot anne kirkpatrick/oakland police chief 08-16i take very seriously when deadly force or any kind of force is used against our officers. its not ok and its not acceptable during a brief availability oakland's new police chief announced the arrest of two people connected with the shooting and a third that so far is not connected to the case. it was 11-40 wednesday night when the off duty oakland officer's personal vehicle was shot at while traveling south on interstate 880 near the 16th avenue exit. the officer was not hit, but the vehicle wassoti'm very grateful that our officer is ok. very grateful and i don't want any violence toward

anyone in this community i take it seriouslyopd officers were able to locate the suspect's vehicle wednesday night, but lost the vehicle following a pursuit. later they found it the 5700 block of brookdale have not said how they ended up finding the suspects or where they arrests. 113/the arrests funeral services are set for an alameda county sheriff's deputy... who was struck and killed while on the job at the county jail in dublin. the service for michael foley will take place tomorrow. it is set for the concord pavilion ... and will begin at 11- in the morning. a procession is

planned afterward. foley was hit by an inmate bus last week. investigators say, the driver, also a deputy, did not see foley as he was walking across the parking lot. foley spent his career in law enforcement... working 29- years for the concord police department and then eight more for the alameda county sheriff's office. a former boy scout leader is under arrest tonight in the south bay... accused of hving child pornography. santa clara police say they arrested 63-year-old david lang this morning. he is currently the chief financial officer for the bill wilson center. it provides counseling services, housing and shelter to children. police say lang was also an assistant scout master for a sunnyvale boy scout troop in the 1970s. the investigation is on-going. ááááá much of the attention thus far in the aftermath of the coyote creek flood in san jose.... has been about the impact on people who live there. ááááá but as kron four's rob fladeboe shows you now, san jose's public

it looks like a shipyard in san francisco is going to remain open. the company that runs the dry docks at pier 70 has reached a 90-day interim deal with the port. this is pier 70 from last year when it was taken over as part of the festivities for super bowl 50. about 250 people work at the docks. the current operator is in the middle of a legal dispute with the company that previously ran the facility. the new company has filed a lawsuit because it says one of the docks needs 9-million dollars in repairs... and it was misled when it purchased them. the city of san francisco is suing the rental car company hertz over a service fee that comes with paying tolls on the golden gate bridge. the city claims customers are getting hit with steep fees when they cross the iconic bridge. in some instances, they are charged four times the cost of the toll of 7-dollars and 50-cent toll. hertz offers a

service called plate-pass which allows people to use the fastrak lanes on bay area bridges. but according the lawsuit, customers have no choice when crossing the golden gate and toll service fees adding up to close to 25- dollars are being tacked on. hertz has not commented on the lawsuit. industry leaders for san francisco's biggest economic engine.... tourism.... are worried about the effect that president trump will have on their business. kron 4's maureen kelly talked to the head of the city's travel association, who says, they are concerned the recent executive order on immigration... will send foreign tourists to other countries. places that depend on tourist dollars like chinatown shouldn't expect to see much growth this year....the projections for the number of visitors to the city is pretty much flat over last year.....up less than 2 percent....and the number of international travellers is expected to only increase by less than 1 percent....and the san francisco travel
