road in alameda county. "the whole road could give way, yeah, it could." john medlock is the deputy dorector for the maintenance and operation department of the public c works agency of alameda county. he says each hole is about 4-5 feet deep. the county recently covered the holes with asphalt as a temporary fix to prevent the holes from getting any bigger. "the undermining of the roadway is across the road and so anywhere between 40-feet... 40-50 feet of undermined roadway and the length of the pipe." under the road is a culvert that allows water to flow under the road. that culvert needs to be replaced. "you look at it it doesn't look to bad, no it doesn't but it is bad enough for us to issue an emergency order to get it repaired to get a contractor out here very quickly to repair it." the sinkhole is just one of the issues plaguing palomares road. part of the road is still shut down due to a mudslide... while this is the largest slide, there are several smaller ones throughout the area. "a combination of rain, wind and gravity makes things come down and makes things fall apart." the hope now is the county will have enough time to fix things that are falling apart before the next round of rain.

most of the water from the san jose flooding came from anderson reservoir near morgan hill. now, even though the creek has returned to normal there's lingering concern that the reservoir could still pose a threat to people downstream.. kron4's charles clifford explains. as of thursday afternoon, anderson reservoir near morgan hill is at 99.7 percent of full capacity. that's actually down quite a bit from last week when excess water was gushing over the spillway. now, only a trickle is flowing over the spill way and this surging waterfall downstream has also gone quiet. for the moment, the danger of flooding along

coyote creek has passed but unfortunately, there is another problem here .standup anderson dam was built back in the 1950's and in 2007 seismic testing here showed that in the event of a major earthquake, a 7.3 or greater on the nearby calvaras fault, the damn could fail. that could send a wall of water into morgan hill and possibly as far away as san jose. since then, the santa clara valley water district has been required to keep the reservoir at a maximum of 68 percent of full capacity and right now it's sitting at 99.7 percent. the water district has estimated it could take up to 9 weeks or longer to get the reservoir back down to where it should be. if we get more rain or the snow in the sierra melts too fast this spring, it could take even longer to drain the lake. sotit makes me nervous. we live in a state that has earthquakes.for the people living downstream from the dam, like scott gill, the earthquake danger is unsettling. he's been working on getting earthquake and flood insurancesotso my heirs will end up getting it because i'll be wiped out a mile
