in the east bay. police are still trying to figure out what caused an explosion at the walnut creek bart station. this is what it sounded like for the hundreds of passengers."10 seconds / explosion sounds" this is video from our helictoper partnership with abc 7 news. the blast shutdown service between oakland's rockridge station and pleasant hill for nearly 90 minutes saturday. and stranded around 250 passengers on a bart train just 80 feet from the station. it turns out the fire broke out in a substation on the northside of the platform, but that's not how the trouble

"we had a circuit breaker blow, just like in your house, and the control center was trying to reset it, to reenergize the third rail, that's when the fire in the substation broke out." it's unknown if the repeated attempts to reset the breaker led to the fire. it's also unclear why the circuit breaker tripped in the first place. the t-s-a is rolling out new pat-down procedures at nearly all airports across the country... including san francisco international. some people are worried that these new methods will be more invasive... kron four's spencer blake has the latest from s-f-o. there used to be áfive security pat-downs the t-s-a would use, depending on different situations at a checkpoint.but now they've streamline everything into áone, universal pat-down."it was non-invasive. completely." that's what one woman said after she got the pat-down in aspen, colorado on her way to san francisco monday.though

the t-s-a won't give details about how or where on the body the new pat-down is to be done, the administration did say it does not involve any body parts that weren't already screened in the previous procedures."i just had so much clothing on, and then there was something in the scan when i went through the scan that showed something around my belt area."the standardiztion does not get rid of targeted, screening - meaning an officer may still search individual areas if something shows up on a passenger's electronic screening."they showed me the color codes and they patted me down on those particular spots."passengers who elect the pat-down over the electronic screening now face the same physical search as those who are selected randomly.t-s-a officers have been classroom-trained on the new procedure.san francisco police confirm the t-s-a met with the department to talk about and demonstrate the new pat-down, but that's standard practice áany time there's a change in security procedures. t-s-a public affairs manager nico melendez says he's unaware of any anticipated uptick in complaints about the pat-downs to police. "we had 10 arrests on saturday. we didn't appear to have any injuries of anyone who was not involved in those clashes""although there was some violence that did occur, it could have been far worse if they went in more aggressively and i trust the professional judgement of our

police department" city leaders estimate about four hundred people attended the march at martin luther king junior civic park. san francisco police have arrested a man they accuse of trying to rob a jewelry store. police announced they've arrested 21-year-old matthew ho of san francisco yesterday. he's been charged with burglary, aggravated assault and attempted robbery. this is surveillance video of the incident which happened last month. the suspect can be seen pushing an employee to the ground. then at gunpoint, he orders other employees of the luk-fook jewerly store to the ground. police say the man smashed some display cases full of gold and diamonds but he didn't take anything.. still ahead. an investigation continues in the marine scandal involving naked pictures... what officials are doing this morning.coming upa shoe bandit who would have thunk it/i'm not the type to

an in-depth investigation is launched into the posting of nude photos former female marines. marine officials are publicly denouncing the activity this morning. barbara starr has the latest. hundreds of sexually explicit photos of female servicemembers posted via a private facebook

group page called marines united.the page linked to a google drive folder, where the photos were being stored. members on the site solicited others to submit photos of women only men were invited to join -- where derogatory and reportedly violent comments were made against the women. now dozens of marines could face disciplinary action. the naval criminal investigative service opened an investigation.it was all brought to light by a former marine.thomas brennan/founder, war horse:what we discovered was roughly a hundred folders that contained dozens of other sub-folders. some of those folders had one or two images in them, with no real way to identify the victim. other ones, a little more than two dozen included name, rank, current military duty station - easily recognizable if put into the wrong hands.brennan, wounded in afghanistan, has now been threatened. thomas

a soldier gave his son in new york a heartwarming surprise after spending almost a year overseas. staff sergeant juan grisales was deployed in africa. and expected to come back next month. but he was allowed to return to the u-s a little earlier. so grisales showed up to his son alexander's second grade class yesterday and gave him a big hug. alexander/son: "when i saw him at the door, i was really happy." staff sgt. juan grisales/u.s. army: "it was priceless. i been waiting for this moment for the longest. um, i didn't know what to do, so planning the whole, am i gonna do it at home, am i gonna do it at school -- it was a lot of thoughts." the family plans to spend as much time with grisales before he goes back in three weeks. to the n-f-l's stadium finance committee yesterday. he said bank of america is willing to contribute about a third of the nearly 2-billion dollars it would cost to build the stadium. this would put all the financial pieces in place for the raiders to relocate. the group "save oakland sports" is upset by the latest development. chris dobbins, save oakland sports: "it's disheartening. we thought it was good when sheldon adelson and goldman sachs backed out but now that bank of america is there, it's not good, but do they have enough time to get it all squared away before the vote in what, three weeks?" oakland mayor libby schaaf also presented her case to the n-f-l stadium finance committee yesterday. afterwards she released a statement saying in part: "today, we presented a plan that we believe responsibly meets the needs of all parties. we made a sound

a local lawmaker is proposing new legislation that could cause some problems on the roads. it would allow bicyclists to ride through stop signs without stopping. assemblyman phil ting of san francisco just introduced the legislation. the measure would make it legal across california for bicyclists to use a stop sign as a yield sign. he says police already don't generally crack down on riders who ignore the stop signs. some commuters say they think it will make traveling safer for both drivers and bicyclists. "i find that if everyone uses the rolling stop on the bicycle especially the popular lanes, it's almost a safety feature for yourself because otherwise people are trying to swerve out" the idea behind the

involved in a shooting after a burglar tries to run them over. let's get right to the scene with kron 4's will tran. will what do we know about this shooting so far. i just got to the scene. right now we know at around 1:10 am, officers responded to a possible burglary call in the 1600 block of carlson blvd. as they walked up to the location, a car tried to run over one of the officers who returned fire. the car fled and the officer is okay.

a stretch of morgan territory road in clayton is closed this morning due to a mud slide. and that mud slide is impacting dozens of people who live in the area. kron 4's yoli aceves is live in clayton this morning with the details. yoli. the heavy rains triggered the slide that buckled the road... and it still needs to be repaired. dozens of people who live in the area are forced to drive a long one-land route around... or park to the north of the closure and walk through the damaged area. one family says they have to cross the road a couple of times a day and dealing with the closure has been stressful.

children from their immigrant parents at the southern border. secretary john kelley says it will only be done to protect kids against dangerous smugglers. currently, when adults enter the country accompanied by children, they are generally released into the u-s and able to stay in the country while their case makes its way through the courts. the new proposal would allow u-s immigration officials to separate children from the adults they came here with. the adults could be kept in detention and the children could be moved elsewhere under protected status. homeland security secretary john kelly on separating children from adults at the mexican border: "yes i am considering, in order to deter, more movement on this terribly dangerous network. i am considering exactly that. they will be well-cared for as we deal with their parents. secreatary kelly did not say when the new proposed policy would go into effect. a san jose police officer was arrested... accused of stealing marijuana. 49-year-old julio morales faces a misdemeanor charge of

petty theft. san jose police say it happened in november after morales arrested a person for domestic violence. he has been on paid administrative leave since last month. morales has been with the department for 21 years. santa cruz police are searching for a gunman who robbed a bank. the robbery happened friday on morrissey boulevard near highway one. the man ran into the bank, jumped on the counter and pointed a gun at the employees. he demanded cash. he put the money in a black bag and ran out. police say the robber is a man in his late 20's. we now know the the official cause of the death of actor bill paxton. his death certificate says he died of a stroke which happened about 2 weeksafter he had surgery to replace a heart valve. paxton died febuary 25-th. he had more than 90 acting credits-- including "titanic," "aliens," "the terminator," and "twister." he also received three golden globe nominations for his role in the h-b-o series "big love."

( darya ) a local lawmaker is proposing new legislation that could cause some problems on the roads. it would allow bicyclists to ride through stop signs without stopping. assemblyman phil ting of san francisco just introduced the legislation. the measure would make it legal across california for bicyclists to use a stop sign as a yield sign. he says police already don't generally crack down on riders who ignore the stop signs. some commuters say they think it will make traveling safer for both drivers and bicyclists. "i find that if everyone uses the rolling stop on the bicycle especially the popular lanes, it's almost a safety feature for yourself because otherwise people are trying to swerve out" ( darya ) the idea behind the legislation is that riders will slow down enough to make sure the intersection is safe. people on the opposing

( darya ) san francisco police arrested a man they say tried to rob a jewelry store. police arrested 21-year-old matthew ho of san francisco yesterday. he's been charged with burglary, aggravated assault and attempted robbery. this is surveillance video of the robbery which happened last month. a man can be seen pushing an employee to the ground. then at gunpoint, he orders other employees to the ground. police say the

midwest are assessing the damage after multiple tornadoes touched down. this is the scene in kansas city. the national weather service says at least two tornadoes touched down in missouri yesterday. about 15 people were injured and at least 40 homes were damaged or destroyed. at one point, more than 100-thousand people lost power. and this is the scene in central minnesota after the earliest tornado in state history hit yesterday. high winds flipped boats and trailers in one neighborhood. homeowners described parts of their neighborhood as a war zone. power was out, homes and cars were damaged. ( mark ) a rescue operation is over after an avalanche at a ski resort in the french alps. french authorities say no one died in the incident and everyone has been rescued. the avalanche struck earlier this morning in tignes, near the border of italy. several skiers were rescued after being caught in the sudden snowfall. this is the second avalanche to hit the resort this year. four people died in that incident

we are following this morning... police officers in richmond are involved in a shooting after a burglar tries to run them over. let's get right to kron 4's will tran who is live at the scene in will what do we know shooting so far. a police officer fired shots at a burglary suspect who tried to run him over early this morning in richmond, a police spokesman said. at 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a call about an auto burglary in the 1900 block of carlson boulevard, richmond police lt. felix tan said. when officers arrived at the scene, they saw the male suspect and tried to make contact with him, but he ran off. a pursuit ensued and the suspect then got into a vehicle, tan said.

breaking news we are following this morning.... major police activity in redwood city. at least two different intersections are closed near mckinnley middle school. the intersection at harrison and clinton and the intersection at james and duane are shut down right now. we are hearing that some evacuations are underway. we have multiple calls into police for more information. we have a crew on the way to the scene. ( mark ) the secretary of homeland security is confirming that the federal government is considering separating children from their parents if they are caught illegally entering the u.s.. secretary john kelley says it will only be done to protect kids against dangerous smugglers. currently, when

adults enter the country accompanied by children, they are generally released into the u-s and able to stay in the country while their case makes its way through the courts. the new proposal would allow u-s immigration officials to separate children from the adults they came here with. the adults could be kept in detention and the children could be moved elsewhere under protected status. homeland security secretary john kelly on separating children from adults at the mexican border: "yes i am considering, in order to deter, more movement on this terribly dangerous network. i am considering exactly that. they will be well-cared for as we deal with their parents. ( darya ) t-s-a rolled out new pat-down procedures at nearly all aiports across the country including san francisco international. there used to be five security pat-downs depending on different situations at a security checkpoint. now they've streamline everything into áone, universal pat-down. t-s-a did not give details

( mark ) in the east bay... a stretch of morgan territory road is closed this morning due to a mud slide. the heavy rains triggered the slide that buckled the road... and it still needs to be repaired. dozens of people who live in the area are forced to drive a long one-land route around... or park to the north of the closure and walk through the damaged area. one family says they have to cross the road a couple of times a day and dealing with the closure has been stressful. "it takes a little extra time, extra work to really figure out how you're going to get through your day. you know what's stressing me out is that there's no answer." ( mark ) at this point it's not clear with the road will be repaired because the ground is still saturated and unstable. the county says it could be months before the road reopens. emergency response volunteers will be in the area this morning talking to neighbors about their needs while the road remains closed. information about the survivors of last month's deadly plane crash in riverside. this morning we are hearing from the husband of one of the women who survived the crash. the plane was heading to san jose when it went down. richard pierce says his wife stacey is still not speaking and that both of her legs had to be amputated. "her face looks like the beautiful face she has always had. her back and rear are pretty burned. they are doing skin grafts tomorrow. and she lost her legs. when the kids walked in she was excited and the bells and whistles went off."( mark ) pierce says he still hasn't told his wife that her mother and step father died in the crash. three people were killed when that plane crashed into homes in riverside. stacey's step father was piloting the plane when it went down. ( mark ) the former mayor of stockton has pleaded not guilty to several money- related charges. anthony silva was arrested over the weekend at s-f-o when he returned from a trip to south america. he's facing charges including embezzlement and grand theft, involving a stockton kids club he used to run. the new charges are not related to charges he faced last year... when he was accused of eavesdropping on a teen strip poker party. those charges were dismissed. destroyed 3 homes and is threatening dozens of families this morning. the fire is 50% contained but crews say there have been several flare ups. this is video from overnight. the fire prompted officials to send out 900 pre-evacuation notices. strong wind guests up to 60 miles per hour were helping the fire grow. there are no reported injuries. and it is not clear how the fire started. a california family is back together with their blind dog that was missing for seven days. on february 28th the yellow lab named "sage" got lost and the family posted a message on facebook. the boulder creek family asked neighbors to help find her. a firefighter with the livermore fire department and his friend found sage on saturday. she wasn't too far away from her home. but the terrain she was in was so steep that she couldn't get

richmond, a police spokesman said. at 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a call about an auto burglary in the 1900 block of carlson boulevard, richmond police lt. felix tan said. when officers arrived at the scene, they saw the male suspect and tried to make contact with him, but he ran off. a pursuit ensued and the suspect then got into a vehicle, tan said. according to tan, once inside the vehicle, the suspect drove at one of the officers and tried to run him over. the officer shot at the suspect and the vehicle. the suspect then fled the scene and is currently at large. police are investigating. thanks will...
