lenghty high speed chase near the los angeles area - lands one person behing bars. (ááávoááá) the chase happened early this morning in

the lancaster area of the antelope valley... and went along desert highways and onto dirt roads at times. spike strips were used to flatten the suv's tires. eventually - a police vehicle used the pit maneuver to spin out the suv. as the driver tried to make a run for it - he was tackled by an officer. it's unknown and this time what sparked the pursuit. (vicki) in southern california. . . a pregnant woman fights back after being caught in the middle of a robbery.jannette garlow was on her monthly trip to a convenience store near her santa clarita home.garlow was in the middle of making a money order to pay her rent. that's when a man standing close by moved in and grabbed most of the cash.he took off. . . but slipped on a rug before exiting.the thief managed to get up and run out the door. . . .but garlow. . . who is 8-months pregnant. . .took off after him.

were found hanging around the joaquin moraga intermediate school campus by some students. the fliers showed an image of a drum...with a cartoon character popping out of it...around which the words muslim looney tunes. a student at the school was determined to be responsible. tonight at six we'll tell you how the school is handling the incident... and how parents are reacting. we will have that story and much more on kron 4 news at six. grant back to you. santa clara county officials are calling on officials are county santa clara santa clara county officials are calling on women and their allies to take the day off tomorrow. it's part of a national strike called a day without a woman to coincide with international women's day. the strike was planned by women's march on washington organizers. this is video from that march. it is intended to highlight women's economic power and call attention to injustices including unequal pay, sexual harassment and inadequate family leave. proposed limiting non-resident enrollment to 20 percent of all undergraduate students. the move is an effort to prioritize in-state applicants. this would be the first limit of its kind for the 10-campus public university. the board of regents will consider it starting next week. last year, lawmakers threatened to hold back nearly 19 million dollars if the uc system did not put a cap on students from outside california. ((grant/ on cam)) extreme weather is whipping through the midwest this week. at least five people have died in wildfires in texas. and two tornadoes tore through parts of missouri on monday night. from c-n- n...dianne gallagher is there as authorities in half a dozen states are still surveying the damage. flames, smoke, high winds and a tornados terrorized parts of the midwest leaving devastation, forcing evacuations and already being blamed for loss of life... including three texas ranchers who were killed while trying to save their cattle from the flames... firefighters were

also injured just outside of amarillo... wildfires are breaking out in florida and oklahoma as well..and to the north, in colorado... this wind, man alivewhere a small grass fire erupted...burning tens of thousands of acres already...shooting flames into the air and clouding the skies with thick smoke... you couldn't see your hand in front of your face across the state line in kansas....the fire continues to burn and is not contained. fast-moving fires have already prompted more than one-thousand people to flee their homes... by the time we got to the front gate they were issuing the evacuation notice.. it was a little scary. the national guard is using helicopters to try and stop it from spreading farther north.meanwhile, to the east...intense storms ripped through the kansas city area... tossing around now- mangled airplanes at an executive airport... and we were right there a tornado shredding homes just across the river in missouri..the garage door just sucked out like a balloon and i knew something was about to happen.

a wall kinda fell down above us and protected us and we just happened to be in a spot that nothing was damaged and really felt like the lord just watched over us i'm dianne gallagher. ((grant/ take vo)) and look at this... wildfires raging in texas and in parts of the southeast can be seen in this satellite image from nasa. the rash of wildfires that broke out monday.... are burning large sections of land. 100- thousand-acres have burned so far in texas. another 10- thousand burned in oaklahoma. and a wildfire in kansas is prompting evacuations. weather forecasts in the area are expected to make fighting wildfires tough through the month.

it was so nice to see the sunshine today and the temperatures started to warm up too. you can see most of the rain has moved north now. i expect the jet stream to continue to lift northward as high pressure builds over most of california. we will still see a few high clouds sweep across our skies but other than that, it should be nice. if you're headed out tonight you can leave the umbrella behind but grab a coast since it will be cool. you can see this ridge of high pressure sliding over california warm our temperatures above average but we will still see rain in far northern california. the computer forecast model picks up a few clouds moving across our skies. and you'll notice a few patches of fog moving in along the coast. the weather looks great if you plan to

head to lake tahoe for some skiing, the weather looks fantastic! there is plenty of snow and highs will be in the 50s. so a look around the bay area tomorrow and we'll find temperatures in the 60s and even some low 70s. in fact the next 7 days look drier now with highs running above average during the middle of the week before cooling down friday and this weekend. it's looking a whole lot like spring now with the next best chance of rain not until next week.

(ááágrant/voááá) police are looking for a man who tied up two calves and then left them in a car. this happened in riverside county. chp officers responded to reports of a cow trying to climb out the trunk of a small car. when they arrived, the cow was still trying to get out and another was wedged in the back seat. both calves had their hooves tied. but officers were soon able to get them free and tether them to a grassy area under a

tree. the calves were taken to a local ranch to figure out if and when the cattle were stolen. stealing livestock is a felony in california. (catherine on cam) and i'm catherine heenan. more than a half dozen of the posters were discovered by students at the joaquin moraga intermediate school in moraga. kron4's maureen kelly has the latest on the person believed to be

responsible.(take pkg) it's very upsetting and troubling and disappointingthe unsettling discovery of 7 to 8 fliers hanging in various places on the junior high school campus happened wednesday....two 8th graders found them and turned them in to school officials.the superintendent says the posters showed an image of a drum...with a cartoon character popping out of it...around which the words muslim looney tunes. the source of the poster came from the animated tv show family guy another student was determined to be behind the incident.they met with the parents they contacted law- enforcement they had a conference which included the student for the purpose of a better understanding what happened what the motivation was and also to talk about what kind of support would be provided and there were consequences as wellbut those consequences did not involve the child being arrested.our job is to promote civility and respect for all people to take opportunities like this to educate kids and to talk to them about their choices parents were surprised that something like this would happen at this school or here in this town.i'm surprised to see it honestlyi didn't expect that to happen here but i think the important thing is is that certainly i and everyone i know in moraga does

san jose police say the three people you see on your screen were arrested late last week. that's in addition to the two men who taken into custody shortly after the incident. one of the suspects, santos trevino, was arrested in rocklin. the other two... were captured in san jose. the victim - frank navarro - was stabbed to death february 26th. it happened near a club in the downtown area. investigators say navarro got into and argument with the suspects at the club. navarro's family says it began after someone was turned away for using a fake i-d. navarro also volunteered as a little league coach. (steve)a man who allegedly tried running over a richmond police officer is still on the loose.the incident happened earlier at around 1 a-m morning in richmond.police initially responded to reports of a man breaking into a truck. . . the officers arrived. .. searching for the burglary suspect. . . and that's when they say a silver

mercedes-benz with no headlights. . . darted out. . .attempting to run down an officer.the incident prompted them to fire multiple rounds. . .but he still got away. (steve)that same investigation moved on over to berkeley. . . later this afternoon. . . police got a tip from a community member.they were told a suspicious vehicle was spotted. . . possibly connected to the richmond incident.officers later found the suspect's vehicle abandoned near the intersection of channing way and fourth streets.a witness described the suspect as a black man in his 20's or 30's. . . wearing a dark hoody. anyone with information is asked to contact police. ( catherine ) richmond police say they arrested three people in connection with a marijuana growing operation. it happened a couple of weeks ago. police responded to calls of people walking on the roof of a home and then climbing in through a window. they say the suspects ran from the house into a backyard when officers showed up.. the three people were arrested - and a fourth person managed to escape and remains on the run.

about 250 marijuana plants were found inside the house... a ( steve ) firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of sunday morning's fire at the travel inn in vallejo. ( catherine ) but a follow-up inspection of the building has resulted in a hefty fine. ( catherine/double box) kron 4's dan kerman is live at the motel for us with details dan? firefighters say sunday mornings fire which destroyed one of the buildings at vallejo's travel inn and left 14 families seeking help from the red cross, started in one of the lower units, but at this time, they have not determined the cause sot kevin brown/vallejo fire department 16-23we are investigating but it will take another week or ten days until the report is finalizedbut

fire inspectors have fined the motel 25-hundred dollars after an inspection of the 44 units in the remaining buildings found numerous code violations.sotwe found over a dozen smoke detectors non functioning, there were clearance issues around electrical panels, there was exposed electrical wiring in a few areas and non working electrical wiring which was left in place and must be removed and several units not addressed properly. firefighters admit residents and guests and not the owner may be to blame for the smoke detector issue. they also say, this has not been a problem building in the pastsot we inspect this building annually and pulled the records for the last three years and they only had minor violations which we give them an opportunity to fix over a few days and they've always followed through and had those problems fixed.121/problems fixed

homeowner shared this surviellance video taken last week showing the man walk up to a front porch in south san jose's berry park neighborhoood ... grab a package and then walk off. neighbors in the area say the man does not look familiar... but, that package thefts have been a problem recently. the victim in this case says about one-thousand dollars worth of stuff has been stolen from his porch in the past six months. sot- "if i saw it, i would confront that person." kathleen chung says this is a tight knit community... and, that neighbors look out for one another.sot- "my son and daughter in law shop online all the time and we get packages everyday." fortunately, she says, none of her packages have been stolen.. nats- "my son set this up." still, just like her victimized neighbor next door... chung has a surveillance system, just in case something does happen. janis beck down the street also has packages delivered to her house...sot- "if i'm not home, i'll have it put over the fence -- out of sight." because she knows if she doesn't take that step... its possible she could become the next victim.sot- "that's

kind of like an invasion of privacy."stand-up close the victim in this case says he has filed a report with the san jose police department... and, that this case is currently under investigation. ( catherine ) there was a close call for a small plane this afternoon at san jose's mineta airport.. . the landing gear had failed - and the plane landed on its underside... the fire department says the two people on board were not hurt. and despite the awkward landing... no fuel spilled from the plane. the plane had taken off from nearby reid-hillview airport - when the pilot noticed something wrong. it was diverted to the main airport because of the longer runway. ( steve ) happening tonight: the city of alameda is going to consider a resolution calling for the impeachment of president trump. if approved, it by no means would result in the removal of the president from

office. however it would allow lawmakers to lay out formal charges. alameda's resolution targets the president's alleged dealings with russian officials during the campaign cycle. last month, richmond passes a similar resolution. the city council meeting is set to begin at 7 p-m. ( catherine ) rallies billed as "a day without a woman" are planned for tomorrow across the nation. and we've learned that at least two marches are planned for the bay area - along with other events. some activists are even calling for strikes -- to call attention to the movement. so far we know a rally is planned at san francisco city hall in the morning...and another outside oakland's city hall tomorrow night. there's no word on whether hillary clinton will be at any of the events... but she showed up today at the "girls inc" luncheon in new york city. it celebrates women who have been successful in all walks of life. the former presidential candidate stressed what she says is the need for more women to get involved in politics. she even joked about her own

100 dogs on his north bay property .the dogs have been rescued by the s-p-c-a -- and most of them have been adopted...(steve) but not all of them have found new homes...and now the shelter wants to get the word out that they still have quite a few dogs available.. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story. "we feel there is a home for every one of these dogs we just have to find it"the dogs are chihuahuas. 80 of them were recently rescued from a single residence in solano county. "because the person could not take care of all these dogs, let alone handle them and love them"55 of the chihuahuas have since been adopted here at the spca of solano county in vacaville. dr. kelly palm talks about a plan to help find homes for

close call at a concord gas station. police say that yesterday afternoon - a driver somehow hit the gas instead of the brake.. and crashed into the convenience store. the car went all the way inside... fortunately without hitting anyone in the store. police don't think that drugs or alcohol were a factor. there's no word on whether the driver will face any charges. ( steve ) oakland's new police chief is okay after getting in a fender bender. chief anne kirkpatrick backed a patrol car into a scotter not far from police headquarters. the scooter has some minor damage and no one was hurt. police say a report was filed and they did do an investigation. the

collision happened on friday... which was the end of kirkpatrick's first week on the job. (steve/vo) it wouldn't be the first time a high-ranking official from oakland has been in crash. back in 2014, then mayor jean quan got into this wreck. the other driver involved in the collision sued the city and it was settled in 2015. quan had been accused of being on her cell phone at the time... but police never could prove that allegation. ((catherine/ on cam)) a c-h-p chase through the high desert of los angeles county ended with a police officer taking down the suspect in a hard-hitting tackle. a driver - in the white shirt - led officers on a high-speed chase today. speeds reaching up to 75-miles an hour. officers eventually forced his car to spin out....which is when he jumped out and ran away. but he didn't get far - and was taken down with a perfect tackle. phoenix. mark carpenter, kron4 news ( steve ) las vegas finds itself back in the running after a shaky five weeks in the efforts to build a stadium for the oakland raiders. there are still many details to be hammered out... just 3 weeks before n-f-l owners potentially decide whether the raiders will stay in oakland... or move to las vegas. bank of america has emerged as the new development and finance partner in the effort to build an n-f-l stadium. bank of america would save the raiders a lot of time by not having to look for new private investors. officials in las vegas have a new sense of optimism that they are about to get an n-f-l team. "you've got to look at how much is their loan portfolio this would account for, where the money came from, and so forth and so on, and i think that they circumvented a lot of those questions, and got right to the meat of it with a bank of this magnitude." any type of interst rates on funding... for example... still have not been made public. that means all eyes are on thursday's stadium board meeting.

a tour group at the white house got a big surprise today.....when a familiar face popped into view...
