( marty @ landing ) a family on the peninsula is mourning after the loss of a father. he was murdered in san francisco while out celebrating with his son after a warriors game. the killer remains on the loose this morning. the family spoke exclusively to kron four's ella sogomonian. it's a story you will only see on kron four. the martinez family is left in the dark with more questions than answers after dad jorge martinez was fatally shot in san francisco's mission district friday just after midnight. your best friend someone you shared many memories with."it was an evening of celebration for jorge's birthday with his son jesse and jesse's girlfriend. jesse's mom - who remained close friends with his dad after they split years back - bought them tickets to the warriors game.the three contined their night to their favorite spot - beauty bar on mission and 19th .the two say their dad stepped out for some fresh air before leaving for home.but when they came out to look for him they saw and ambulance drive off and their dad no where in sight. "we went outside and there were police officers everywhere and there was commotion everywhere.""by the time we walked out of beauty bar there was caution tape everywhere we really didn't know what was going on."it was only when they showed up to san francisco general hospital that they learned their dad was shot several times in the back."maybe walking away from whatever argument we don't know but it definitely looked like he was walking away."the martinez family say their dad was an extremely happy and fun loving man.they don't know who did this or why. "not knowing is the hardest thing on top of him not being here anymore." for now they say detectives are looking for surveillence

officers and then revved the engine. the suspect is in critical condition this morning. the incident started friday afternoon at 1:30. police responded to a report of a naked man acting eratically. there was a car chase which ended in a busy shopping center on stevens creek boulevard. ( marty ) in the last ten days, there have been five police shootings in the bay area. before the shooting in san jose.... on thursday, antioch police shot a man they say rammed into a police car during a chase. tuesday, fremont police shot and killed a 16-year-old girl in hayward while trying to catch a robber. on monday, a man in napa was shot dead by officers. police say he was threatening people with a knife outside a home depot. and last thursday, santa clara police shot and killed a man. investigators say, he threatened officers. alto . the cyclist remains in the hospital this morning. two of the suspects were arrested shortly after the incident.. while the other three were apprehended saturday morning. this is video of the scene from our partnership with abc 7 news. all 5 suspects were in a volkswagon toureg around 3:30 friday afternoon. police were trying to stop the car for a vehicle code violation. the car then car sped off, going the wrong way on the 200 block of homer avenue. when officers turned that corner.. the volkswagon was not in sight.. officers instead found an injured cyclist. the victim is in her forties with major injuries but is expected to survive. shooting is honored in a unique way. it's an effort to help his family with funeral expenses. 24-year-old demarcus doss was shot last thursday on interstate 80. he was an aspiring law enforcement officer. kron four's jeff pierce shows us the special event held in his honor. this is the season for basketball tournaments and a special tournament was held on saturday at contra costa college in san pablo.this is the demarcus hero basketball tournament, demarcus the hero basketball tournament.demarcus doss was murdered earlier this month in a drive by shooting on interstate 80 in richmond. the tournament was a fund raiser to help the family pay for his funeral.they came to me with the idea to have this event to help raise money for the family with expenses and there was no way i could turn

them down.it takes something like this to bring everybody together it kind of sad, at the same time it's a great cause to help out a family when a young man went through something terrible, helping them get through the process. for more than five hours ten teams contributed their talents on the basketball court in a trubute to a young man they see as a hero. his heroics were in the last moments in his life when he shielded his female passenger from the fuisilade of bullets that shattered his minivan that evening.it was down in him to protect a woman or protect somebody else, he didn't think about his own life,that says a whole lot about him.it was a senseless violent act so we came to show our support.that support on the college's basketball courts was for a family that the game played a major role in their lives.our whole family played basketball we're a basketball family so

grand marina. the fire started in one docked boat, and spread to two others. fire crews found the dog in the boat with the most fire damage. there were no human injuries. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. ( marty ) in san francisco.... firefighters are looking into what caused an aparment building in chinatown to burst into flames. it happened at 3:30 yesterday morning on waverly placenear portsmouth square. we first brought you this story yesterday on kron four news weekend. firefighters brought it under control in less than an hour. an eldery woman was treated for smoke inhalation. ( marty ) hazardous materials crews have finished clearing a mercury spill discovered earlier this week in antioch. this is in the area of manzanita way near sycamore drive. crews found liquid mercury on monday after someone reported a silvery substance in the street. there were no reports of anyone getting sick. there's no word on the source of the mercury but the latest spill is the third in the area since decemeber. crews will be monitoring the area

( marty ) breaking overnight... 3 people are in the hospital this morning after a shooting in vallejo. it happened at about 10 last night when police received a report of numerous shots fired at the 100 block of westwood street. police say a 27-year-old man and a 26- year-old woman were visiting family when a man approached them and fired multiple rounds. another man was shot in the back of his right thigh as well. all three victims were taken to the trauma

center for treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. police say the victims did not know the shooter and police have not yet identified a motive for the shooting. ( marty ) emptying the shelters and giving homeless pets a good home. and one shelter in the east bay may have done just that. it happened at the berkeley humane society on 9th street. dozens of people showed up to welcome a new pet into their loving homes. berkeley humane officials say nearly 60 animals were up for adoption. with all their adoption fees waived. they say every kennel is just about vacant this morning. only a few cats are left. the berkeley humane society has served the people and animals of the community since 1895. ( marty @ landing ) breaking overnight... 3 people are in the trauma center this morning after a shooting in vallejo. it happened at about 10 last night when police received a report of numerous shots fired at the 100 block of westwood street. police say a 27-year-old man and a 26- year-old woman were visiting family when a man approached them and fired multiple rounds. another man was shot in the back of his right thigh as well. all three victims were taken to the trauma center for treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. police say the victims did not know the shooter and police have not yet identified a motive for the shooting. ( marty @ landing ) a family on the peninsula is mourning after the loss of a father. he was murdered in san francisco while out celebrating with his son after a warriors game. the killer remains on the loose this morning. the family

( marty @ landing ) a big story we are following this morning. five people are under arrest this morning after police say they were involved in a hit-and-run. this happened friday in palo alto . the cyclist remains in the hospital this morning. two of the suspects were arrested shortly after the incident.. while the other three were apprehended saturday morning. this is video of the scene from our partnership with abc 7 news. all 5 suspects were in a volkswagon toureg around 3:30 friday afternoon. police were trying to stop the car for a vehicle code violation. the car then car sped off, going the wrong way on the 200 block of homer avenue. when officers turned that corner.. the volkswagon was not in sight.. officers instead found an injured cyclist. the victim is in her forties with major injuries but is expected to survive.

it happened 11:30 yesterday morning in alameda at the grand marina. the fire started in one docked boat, and spread to two others. fire crews found the dog in the boat with the most fire damage. there were no human injuries. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. ( marty ) in san francisco.... firefighters are looking into what caused an aparment building in chinatown to burst into flames. it happened at 3:30 yesterday morning on waverly placenear portsmouth square. we first brought you this story yesterday on kron four news weekend. firefighters brought it under control in less than an hour. an eldery woman was treated for smoke inhalation. ( marty ) hazardous materials crews have finished clearing a mercury spill discovered earlier this week in antioch. this is in the area of manzanita way near sycamore drive. crews found liquid mercury on monday after someone reported a silvery substance in the street. there were no reports of anyone getting sick. there's no word on the source of the mercury but the latest spill is the third in the area since decemeber. crews will be monitoring the area for the next few months. officials say they want to build a 30-foot high barrier and it also must run at least six feet underground. adding that they want the wall to be tough to climb over. and nearly impossible to cut through. according to documents, the wall will look more aesthetically pleasing from the north side. the department of homeland security will oversee the project and will eventually patrol and maintain the wall. wall proposals are due to the government by march 29th. giving homeless pets a good home. and one shelter in the east bay may have done just that. it happened at the berkeley humane society on 9th street. dozens of people showed up to welcome a new pet into their loving homes. berkeley humane officials say nearly 60 animals were up for adoption. with all their adoption fees waived. they say every kennel is just about vacant this morning. only a few cats are left. the berkeley humane society has served the people and animals of the community since 1895.

concord native chad pascal died of a rare blood disorder ever since then, his family has held a golf tournament in his honor. raising money to help find a cure. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with chad's parents... who spent the day surrounded by friends and family remembering their son.
