even if it's just information only, just to be aware of this happening."additionally, s- f-p-d policy doesn't allow officers to chase suspects unless a felony has been committed.many of the riders sunday had bandanas covering their faces, and helmets - if they wear them - make it almost impossible to identify suspect after the fact.we asked officers whether there was a connection to the case where a man was badly beaten by dirt bikers on highway 101 earlier this month."it's possible that they can be connected to some of the people that we've identified in the past, or they could be new people popping up."that means videos and pictures like these that capture license plates, or other identifying features, may be the best things for law enforcement to get when these sideshows pop up.on the bay bridge, spencer blake, kron four news. ( james ) several horses were stranded during last monght's flooding in san jose. now some of them are being treated at veterinary hospitals. kron four's alecia reid spoke with one owner, whose horse has been in the hospital for a week... and there's no telling when he'll be out. their horse ben is known to have a huge appetite, but he wasn't eating.his owners thought it was stress from what he had just endured.they soon realized it was much more than that.pkgstrapped to an i-v this is what ben looks like these days. last month we showed pictures of him and other horses stranded in their barns, courtesy of our helicopter partnership with a-b-c 7 news. sot -we couldn't give them food or water for a day and half and we were all

( james ) a state lawmaker from the east bay is pushing all kids in california to get tested for exposure to lead. recent studies have shown that in some part of the bay area... as much as seven percent of kids have elevated levels of lead in their blood. kron four's charles clifford reports. currently in california, only kids who are receiving some sort of government assistance are required to be tested for lead exposure, but under a new bill introduced by assemblyman bill quirk of hayward, all kids between 6 month and 6 years of age would be tested. ab-1316 would change california's health and safety code to require all kids in california to be tested for lead exposure. previous attempts at similar bills have failed because such testing would be expensive and, at the

( james ) a missing east bay teen has been found safe. 17-year-old lucy castle from berkeley never came home from school on february 16th. family and friends gathered outside berkeley high last week passing out fliers in an effort to find her. yesterday, her mom reached out to us saying she has been found. she says someone saw the report on kron four news and was able to locate her. ( james ) this morning, kron four is taking a look at what's it is like to live with lou gehrig's disease --which is also known as a-l-s. former 49ers great dwight clark announced over the weekend he had been diagnosed. clark is best know for "the catch" - the touchdown grab that sent the niners to the superbowl in 1982.
4:51 am
clark wrote he first experienced symptoms in september 20-15, when he lost strength in his left hand. kron four's mark carpenter spoke with a man in the bay area - living with a-l-s. there is still much to be learned about als, but one thing that is known is that right now- there is no cure. it's a debilitating, painful illness that affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord.... progressively shutting down a patient's ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. the average life expectancy for someone with als is two- to-five years, b ut this afternoon-- i spoke with a man who's been battling the disease for more than a decade. when someone is diagnosed with lou gehrig's disease, the fight usually doesn't last long. but als has found one it's strongest challengers in matt chaney. the 56-year-old has been living with the illness for the last 16-years... and he's learned to adapt. the symptoms first showed up when he lost strength in his right hand... and the loss of function eventually spread to the rest of his upper body... bound to a wheelchair, he relies heavily on the remaining limited abilities of
4:52 am
his feet... using his toes to type on an ipad... the same ipad where he read about dwight clark's diagnosis. through his caregiver, chaney communicates..the difficult struggle of living with als. "it has been the greatest challenge of his life. losing independence is agonizing, same with losing the ability to communicate." there are no definitive causes for als, but clark suspects years of football may have had something to do with it. chaney played at the high school and collegiate levels for 6-years... and while he can't say for sure if the sport was a factor, he feels repeated shots to the head are never beneficial. "he thinks if the brain is rattled, rattled around in the skull, something is bound to go haywire." while life with als has been difficult, chaney's resolve to keep fighting has not been deterred... and his advice for clark-- stay ahead of controlling the symptoms as much as possible.
