(grant) a 100- year-old san francisco woman who was evicted from her apartmentlast month - has died. (vicki) catherine heenan is here with more on iris canada - and the legal fightthat marked her last years.. (catherine) iris canada's fight to stay in her home became a focus forhousing advocates... the building's owners wanted to convert the units into condos....and tried unsuccessfully to work out a deal with her... over recent years there were protests and rallies in her name...as the legal battle continued. this was one of them. finally last month - the 100-year-old was evicted.

the property owners said in court that she 'could' have stayed if she'd signed paperwork to allow the building to convert to condos. she repeatedly refused - allegedly motivated by family members who hoped to force a sale of the unit at a discounted price. but those relatives argued that they did 'not' believe she'd be secure from eviction if she signed. iris had been hospitalized since her eviction - and suffered a stroke last week. tonight a member of the 'housing rights committee' of san francisco told me that the fight isn't over...and the owners still need permission to convert the building. a vigil for iris will be held outside the building at 670 page street -- wednesday at 5-pm. grant and vicki? ( grant ) the first sentence from the national transportation safety board says it all. the crash was caused by what is says inadequate highway markings. you may recall the greyhound bus wrecked on highway 101 in san jose in january of 2016. it was raining at the time and it was dark. the n-t-s-b says the bus was exiting and because markings were worn or missing... the driver thought he was in the

exit lane. it turns out we was not and went up a barrier.. rolling the bus... and it wound up on its side. the n-t-s-b says the barrier should have been visible... even in the bad weather... but it wasn't. it faults the state for not properly marking the roadway. also in the report, investigators say the bus had seatbelts but only two of the 21 passengers were wearing them. the two passengers who died in the crash were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the bus. 13 other people were hurt in the crash. the n-t-s-b says had everyone been wearing seat belts... the number of deaths and injuries would have likely been lower. also in the report... the n- t-s-b is recommending improving signage and highway markings where this crash happened. it also says greyhound could do more before a bus leaves a station and point out the importance of using seat belts. steve
