( marty @ landing ) that breaking news we're following... a man is dead this morning and two construction workers are injured following a crash on interstate 880 in hayward. this happened around 3:30 this morning on southbound 880 near winton avenue. police say a driver crashed into a cal- trans construction pick-up truck, and died at the scene. two construction workers are suffering from minor injuries this morning.

( marty @ landing ) more breaking news out of antioch... one person is dead after crashing their car into a fire truck in antioch. it happened on highway 4 near the summerville exit. the fire truck was working another accident when the crash happened. a firefighter who was on board the firetruck was injured and sent to the hospital. their injuries are unknown. ( marty @ landing ) breaking news out of vallejo... one person is dead after a shooting just before 11 last night at the intersection of marin and pennsylvania. that's where officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. he would later die from his injuries at the hosptial. we'll bring you more details on this as they enter our newsroom. ( marty @ landing ) our top story this morning... tensions are high at albany high school. this after students who were suspended for making racist gestures, returned to school. and now parents at the high school are speaking out. kron 4's averi harper is reporting live from albany high where a parents meeting is set to take

(averi) happening today... a parent meeting at albany high school in response to racist getures and instagram posts earlier this week. the parents are their to support the students and staff targeted by the gestures. yesterday a rally was held to unify the community. a teacher read part of an email from one of the students invovled at the rally. the students says he's sorry and wishes he had done more.

another big story we are following this morning... oakland mayor libby schaaf is trying to avoid another tragedy. now she is making changes to oakland's fire inspection bureau. the announcement comes just days after a blaze that killed four people and displaced dozens. we have now learned a fire captain wanted that building shut down months ago... the fire happened monday morning in a halfway house on san pablo avenue. fire investigators say a burning candle was the cause of the blaze. back in january the captain said the building should be shutdown immediatly due to several hazards. including open piles of garbage and a padlocked fire escape. instead, the owner of the building was given 30 days to do repairs. kron4's ella sogomonian talked to mayor schaff about her new plans. oakland mayor libby schaaf is doubling the number of fire inspectors adding six more in light of two fatal fires in recent months. libby schaaf, oakland mayor" and while we

wait to get those people in place we are reassigning existing staff so we can fast track more problem property inspections as well as ensure that all of our annual inspections are up to date." the latest fire erupted monday morning on san pablo avenue claiming the lives of four and displacing close to 100 people. "i am extremely disturbed to see some of the communications that happen prior to the fire. my heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones in that fire."the effort is part of a fire safety inspection overhaul ordered by the mayor.the plan is meant to enhance fire prevention training and tools while priortizing problem properties. "to stay on top of these critical safety needs and ensure that unscrupulous landlords are not putting profits over safety."the fire department has been directed to focus all inspection staff to catch up with a backlong of

( marty ) another lawsuit has been filed in connection with last december's deadly 'ghost ship' fire in oakland. 34-year-old edward lapine was one of the 36- people who died in the fire.. his family is now suing the property owner and the building manager. the complaint says the couple who ran the collective along with the owner knew about the fire hazards and did nothing about it. the building had been illegally converted into housing. this is just the latest in a string of lawsuits. so far no criminal charges have been filed in the case. ( marty ) the c-h-p has issued an amber alert for two girls. they are 9-year-old laila pomtong and 14-year-old solai pomtong, both girls have black hair and brown eyes.. they say the girls were taken from greenville in

plumas county. that's about two hours north of sacramento. but police say the suspect is 33-year-old alicia lapp . she was last seen driving a 2016 black toyota prius with the license plate 7uhh003. look at some of the new medical findings released this week: ( marty ) taking a short nap could be the key to happiness. that's according to a new study out of the u-k. researchers say taking naps of less than 30 minutes improves our sense of well-being and boosts performance. previous studies have shown that naps

cause of the crash this morning. it happened on park avenue, just west of the downtown business district around 7:40 yesterday morning. police say it appears that a big-rig was westbound on park and had just made a left onto mcevoy when the firebird slammed into the bed of the truck. the driver of the car was apparently killed on impact. the young girl escaped with only minor injuries. police say this is another tragic reminder for drivers to be aware and drive at a speed that will allow you time to react in any situation. "he's a dynamic, young 64-year- old that lost his life."aurea lewis is one of the directors of urojas community services, and she's also one of the people who lost a loved one -her brother - in monday's san pablo avenue fire.a mediator hired by attorney james cook, who represents urojas, says the place still had uninhabitable conditions when she did a walk-through just a couple weeks ago."there was water leaking down from the ceiling from the bathroom of the second floor coming down to the first floor. there were exposed wires."cook has been representing urojas ever since eviction attempts by the buildings owner, keith kim, began in december. kim claimed the master tenant owed him unpaid rent.this was around the same time the city inspection found the deplorable conditions."if some of the issues were fixed that we were in dispute about, maybe the devastation wouldn't

( marty @ landing ) another big story we are following this morning... oakland mayor libby schaaf is trying to avoid another tragedy. now she is making changes to oakland's fire inspection bureau. the announcement comes just days after a blaze that killed four people and displaced dozens. we have now learned a fire captain wanted that building shut down months ago... the fire happened monday morning in a halfway house on san pablo avenue. fire investigators say a burning candle was the cause of the blaze. back in january the captain said the building should be shutdown immediatly due to several hazards.

( marty ) four years after a santa cruz county family's cat went missing.... it turned up in canada. and now boo boo has been reunited with her family. the family thought they'd never see her again.. but just last week the s-p-c- a says an annonymous person dropped her off and they called the rightful owners with the good news. and the owner has an idea of how that cat may have made all the way to canada.
