( robin ) taking a live look outside at the golden ( robin ) taking a live look outside ( robin ) breaking overnight... at least five homes have been evacuated due to a landslide in the oakland hills. it happened at around 8:00 last night on banning drive. people had to be evacuated due to the unstable hillside. there are no reports of any injuries or damages to homes. and take a look at this... more problems in the oakland hills. this is new video of downed trees near the corner of maple and sylvan avenues. ( robin ) also breaking overnight... a woman is in the hospital this morning after a tree fell on her house in benicia. here is video from the scene. you can see the tree fell right onto the home.. two people were inside at the time. the woman suffered a head injury, but is expected to be okay.

fire crews say there is major damage to the roof and the inside of the home. fire fighters say at least three other trees came down around the city last night and they are preparing for more incidents. ( robin ) take a look at this... a viewer sent us video of downed powerlines causing sparks on highway 101 in san mateo... and here is some more video of the storm damage... a large tree fell in newark near an elementary school. and three lanes are back open this morning on the wesbound side of the bay bridge after high winds overturned big rig. it happened just before 8:30 last night just east of treasure island. police have not yet released the condition of that driver this morning. ... . lydia pantazes reports from san ramon where there are already more than two dozen landslides. (pkg)"it was after the rain, after a couple of the storms, and it just got progressively bigger and bigger."bonnie davey is talking about a landslide near her home... it's near bollinger canyon road. "it's directly in front of this condo.""it started out as a very small crack."a landslide that bonnie and her neighbors have seen grow..."i happened to be out on my balcony about six weeks ago and it just fell."san ramon city officials say it's between 70 to 80 feet wide... but this is just one of more than two dozen slides throughout the city.this one on windermere is twice the size of the one near bollinger canyon and near a road..."once we saw it we took some prompt action to cover that one because it occurred early in the season and it got a lot more rain on it."city

officials also had to install a cement barrier to prevent debris from spilling onto the road.but it isn't just in san ramon... nearby danville also has its fair share of slides, like this one near black hawk plaza.but city officials in san ramon say at this point none of the ones within city limits pose an imminent threat..."they are more a threat if they are left untreated."the problem is that repairs can't begin until the area has had time to dry out... that could take months.in the meanwhile..."we have our own city staff who is available should there be a problem... we have two on call contractors who can respond on short notice if needed."while the city isn't worried. neighbors who have seen these slides grow are a little more concerned..."we need to mark it off, someone needs to come out here and do something."in san ramon, lydia pantazes kron4 news. in the gas tax. the measure passed the state senate on a 27 to 11 vote last night. governor jerry brown led an intense lobbying effort for this measure after introducing it just last week. ( robin ) the tax is expected to generate roughly 52- billion dollars over 10- years. it raises the price of gas by 12 cents a gallon and 20 cents a gallon on diesel fuel. there is also an increase in vehicle registration fees. plus, owners of hybrid and electric vehicles have to pay a flat fee. the bill still has to be signed by governor brown.

the gas tax increase will go into effect on november 1st. and the increase to registration fess will go into effect on january first. ( robin ) another big story we are following this morning... after 19 years, the family of a murdered 13- year-old may finally see justice done. a monterey county district attorney is filing murder charges against a convicted felon for the 19-98 murder of christina williams. kron 4's dan kerman reports from the monterey county government center in salinas with more. (dan kerman)on june 12 of 1998, 13 year old christina williams took her dog out for a walk in her fort ord neighborhood, and disappeared. 7 months later her body was discovered in a remote area of the former military base for the next 19 years investigators worked to bring her killer to justice. thursday, monterey county's d.a. announced he will be cahrging charles holified with williams murdersot jeannine pacioni/asst. district

attorney 25-34we will be charging mr. holifield with first degree murer with special allegations of kidnapping and lewd acts on a child. holifield is currently serving 25 year to life at valley state prison in chowchilla for attempted kidnapping and failing to register as a sex offender. sothe's been a suspect since the beginning but there were problems with building sufficient evidence at that time in order to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. as the victim's mother's cousin looked on, the district attorney announced that all changed when a cold case team revisited the case in 2016 and had the physical evidence retested for dna. the d.a. says this time they got a hit which is why they can now charge holifield with her murder sot dean flippo/monterey county d.a. 119-129it will never bring back christine williams but the very least we can do is work hard to present the evidence to a jury and a jury will make that decision

and that's what we will be aiming for 135/aiming for ( robin ) a dog missing for three days is reunited with his family after its owner had recently died in a boat accident earlier this week. kron4's charles clifford reports from marin county on where the dog was found yesterday. (standup)on monday 47-year-old san jose resident brian phidat died when the boat he, another man and two dogs were riding in capsized near tomales bay. the other man and one dog survived but at the time rescue crews though the second pup, named yoda, may have drowned in the accident.(take vo)but on thursday morning, a crew from the marin county fire department was practicing water rescues just off shore near dillon beach when they spotted yoda, huddled near some rocks. the team was able to put yoda on the back of a

jet ski and take her ashore. she was cold and tired, but uninjured. crews brought yoda back to the fire station and warmed her up and thursday afternoon the family of brian phidat came to pick her up. graham groneman was one of the firefighters that rescued yoda, he hopes that her return will bring at least some comfort to the family.(take sot)(standup) now, we are also told that yoda will attend brian phidat's funeral in a few days. in marin county ,charles clifford kron 4 news. the coast guard airlifted a woman off of a cruise ship near san diego. it happened yesterday on the star princess cruise ship. crews told the guard a woman on-board needed medical treatment for a possible head injury. the ship was just 572 miles south of san diego when she was airlifted. the crew took her to a san diego hospital. goolsby/homeless- "i never thought we'd be here, but i appreciate the help though." last october, the city of oakland turned this space into a "tent city." part of it's "safe camping" pilot program... giving the homeless an area to camp out, equiped with portable toilets. garbage service... and, case managers who stop by on occasion to help get people into housing. when the pilot project first launched, some 40 people lived here... out of the city's more than 15- hundred homeless. since then, joe devries with the city of oakland, says all but seven of those homeless are no longer on the streets and are actually in housing.joe devries/city of oakland- "now, more people have moved in. so, for our next pilot, we're looking at a site that's not on the street, that would actually be a vacant lot, that has not just case management and services, but also site management and security." devries says the new city sanctioned homeless encampment should be up and running in about a month... and, he says the pilot program could last for up to a year and a half. but the problem is, the city doesn't know where the new encampement will be...

or, how neighbors will react. in west oakland, this business owner says the original encampment has been an unsafe distraction for the community.no name/business owner- "we're dealing with trash a lot. people come up and down the street. you're dealing with drug addicts, you're dealing with alcoholics, you're dealing with mentally ill people and its all unsupervised." devries says the next city- sanctioned encampment will be more secure. the program is paid for by money from the city's general fund approved last year by the city council. about 190-thousand dollars. half already spent on the site in west oakland, which the city believes has been a success.joe devries/city of oakland- "and, our hope is, that it will a -- uh, provide people a safe place to be living when they're unsheltered, and b -- uh, get them into housing faster, and c -- uh, lessen the impact that it has on the surrounding community."dejon goolsby/homel ess- "everybody needs love and everybody needs support because you never know what could happen. you might just

morning. this is video from goodman, missouri. you're looking at new drone video showing what's left of an elementary school that was hit by a tornado earlier this week. fortunately there were no kids inside at the time. the tornado also tore through several homes but no serious injuries were reported. ( darya ) and take a look at this apartment building in baltimore. the roof completely ripped off during heavy storms yesterday.

part of the building also collapsed. crews are now checking the rest of the building to make sure it is stable. nobody was seriously injured. ( mark ) in the east bay.... we are hearing from the owner of the west oakland apartment that was destroyed in a fire last week. this is video of that fire from late last month. the owner of the building hired a lawyer in anticipation of legal action connected to the deaths of four people and the dozens of others who lost their home. a spokesman for the owner said he was not responsible for the upkeep or the deadly fire. he says it was bad living conditions that motivated building owner keith kim to terminate the agreement with the urojas organization.

senate on a 27 to 11 vote last night. governor jerry brown led an intense lobbying effort for this measure after introducing it just last week. the tax is expected to generate roughly 52- billion dollars over 10- years. it raises the price of gas by 12 cents a gallon and 20 cents a gallon on diesel fuel. there is also an increase in vehicle registration fees. plus, owners of hybrid and electric vehicles have to pay a flat fee. the bill still has to be signed by governor brown. the gas tax increase will go into effect on november 1st. and the increase to registration fess will go into effect on january first. ( mark ) a san francisco instructor at a popular swim school - has been arrested on child pornography charges. police say, 28-year old nicholas hodges ... had hundreds of pictures of children on his computer.. he is also being charged with using a minor for sex acts.. hodges was an instructor at la petite baleen swim school ..... and has previously worked for the disney store.. and disney world. the swim school released a statement saying, hodges passed his

( darya ) after 19 years the family of a murdered 13- year-old may finally have some closure. the monterey county district attorney announced... their office will file murder charges against charles holifield... for the murder of christina williams. the teen went missing in june of 19-98... seven months later her body was found in a remote area of former military base..fort ord. investigators say holifield...an already convicted felon has always been a key suspect... but now they have the evidence to tie him to the murder. formal charges are expected to be filed by next friday ( mark ) city council members in morgan hill are preparing for the worst. an earthquake that could break the anderson dam. the dam overflowed in february and flooded some parts of san jose. right now...it is just under 76 percent capacity. but that number needs to go down so seismic retrofitting can be done. a magnitude 7

man police are looking for. both of the incidents happened on sunday night in palo alto's college terrace neighborhood. the first one happened just before 8:30 at night while a woman was unloading her car in front of her home on yale street. a man appraoched her and started to make small talk and then walked away. about 20 minutes later, the woman says the same man was trying to open her front door. the second incident happened a few hours later on college avenue. a woman found a man standing in her bushes trying to look through her windows. ( mark ) glaxo- smith- kline says there is recalling some of its inhalers that are delivering the incorrect dosage. the inhalers are commonly used to treat breathing conditions like asthma. the recall covers nearly 600-thousand inhalers. glaxo- smith- kline says the problem does not pose a serious danger to patients. but people are encouraged to call a doctor immediately if their inhaler is not relieving symptoms. girls have died after falling from the top floor at a south carolina hotel. 16-year-old daniela alejandra flores and 17-year-old amber franco were students at myrtle beach high school. the girls fell all the way to the parking deck of the hotel. police say they are unsure why the teens fell -- but no foul play is expected. both girls were were pronounced dead at the scene. their school principal said flores and franco were well-liked and had many friends. ( darya ) two dogs killed a woman in her oklahoma city neighborhood. it happened yesterday afternoon when the woman was walking her small dog. two large dogs came up to them and attacked them. they were both killed one of the attackers was a pitbull. police were not able to identify the breed of the other dog. one of the dogs was shot and the other was hit by a police car.

( mark ) big news out of the entertainment world... comedian don rickles has died. rickles died yesterday morning at his home in los angeles from kidney failure. he was best known for his unique brand of "insult comedy." rickles first started acting in the "run silent run deep" opposite clark gable. he also made appearances in the popular "beach blanket" film series with annette funicello and frankie avalon. in 1985, he performed at ronald reagan's second inaugural ball. he would later call the show the highlight of his career. in 1995, rickles played robert deniro's trusted floor boss in martin scorsese's "casino." rickles was honored with a star on the hollywood walk of fame in 2000. he was 90 ( mark ) the coast guard... had to rescue a woman from a cruise ship off the coast of san diego. this is video of the rescue. this happened yesterday afternoon. the crew of the ship called for the rescue

the only place dealing with storm damage this morning. this is video from goodman, missouri. you're looking at new drone video showing what's left of an elementary school that was hit by a tornado earlier this week. fortunately there were no kids inside at the time. the tornado also tore through several homes but no serious injuries were reported. ( darya ) and take a look at this apartment building in baltimore. the roof completely ripped off during heavy storms yesterday. part of the building also collapsed. crews are now checking the rest of the building to make sure it is stable. nobody was seriously injured. california approves a major hike in the gas tax. the measure passed the state senate on a 27 to 11 vote last night. governor jerry brown led an intense lobbying effort for this measure after introducing it just last week. the tax is expected to generate roughly 52- billion dollars over 10- years. it raises the price of gas by 12 cents a gallon and 20 cents a gallon on diesel fuel. there is also an increase in vehicle registration fees.. anywhere from $50 to $175 depending on your car's value. plus, owners of hybrid and electric vehicles have to pay a $100 flat fee. the bill still has to be signed by governor brown. the gas tax increase will go into effect on november 1st. and the increase to registration fess will go into effect on january first. ( mark ) city councilmember s in morgan hill are preparing for the worst. an earthquake that could break the anderson dam. the dam overflowed in february and flooded some parts of san jose.

right now...it is just under 76 percent capacity. but that number needs to go down so seismic retrofitting can be done. a magnitude 7 quake could break the dam. this has concerned people living in morgan hill. city council held a meeting wednesday night addressing their concerns. ( mark ) and california is waving some permit rules and reviews as crews rush to repair the oroville dam. governor jerry brown issued an executive order waiving some environmental reviews... for emergency construction at the 770-foot-tall dam. parts of the dam's two spillways failed in february, prompting an evacuation order for nearly 200 thousand people downstream. the department of water

( mark ) police in palo alto are asking for your help in identifying a man who they believe is involved in two prowling incidents. we first told you about the incidents on monday. and now we have a sketch of the man police are looking for. both of the incidents happened on sunday night in palo alto's college terrace neighborhood. the first one happened just before 8:30 at night while a woman was unloading her car in front of her home on yale street. a man appraoched her and started to make small talk and then walked away. about 20 minutes later, the woman says the same man was trying to open her front door. the second incident happened a few hours later on college avenue. a woman found a man standing in her bushes trying to look through her windows. ( darya @ land ) glaxo- smith- kline says there is recalling some of its inhalers that are delivering the incorrect dosage. the inhalers are commonly used to treat breathing conditions
