( marty @ landing ) isis is claiming responsibility for two palm sunday attacks that rocked services at two coptic churches in egypt. cnn reports at least 37 people were killed. an additional 60

people are injured in one blast. this is video from inside one church after the explosion. coptic christians make up about ten percent of egypt's population of 91 million. the governments of both isreal and france are pledging solidarity with egypt. we will continue to follow this breaking news story throughout the morning. ( marty @ landing) our top story this morning... a man is found shot to death in the driver's seat of a car in the east bay. it's newark's first homicide of the year. kron four's averi harper is there this morning with the latest. averi? (averi)this is still fresh so not much other than what i saw on video of a car with at least three men that pulled up to the victim before he was found dead. but police are calling this a brazen crime.it happened in this busy shopping plaza saturday morning.and

oddly enough no one heard the gun shot.a man in his late 20's who has yet to be identified was found dead in a newark shopping center saturday morning.employees say a customer walked by and saw the victim slumped over the steering wheel.the victim was shot at least once in the head while sitting in the driver's seat of this dark grey bmw. the first homicide of the year was called into police at half past noon.but plaza employees say they think it happened hours before.lt. chomnan loth, newark police departmentnewark police aren't releasing any surveillence video at this time.but we were able to watch footage from a nearby business. in it a white or silver suv pull up to the car where the victim was found - about three men got out and into the victim's car then fled just before a call came through that the man was killed. locals say this is unusual for the area.crime data dot com reports an average of one homicide per year in the past 10 to 15 years in the city.so this is really striking a chord with the community. ( marty ) and we first told you about this deadly shooting at about 5:15 yesterday evening. if you want breaking news alerts sent to your phone all you have to do is download the free kron four mobile app. ( marty @ landing ) happening now. police are searching for a man who they say sexually assaulted two women on the stanford university campus... they happened within 20 minutes of each other. both incidents were reported friday night on escondido road. the first one around 10:40 p-m when police say a man groped a woman from behind and continued walking east. then, around 11 p-m, a second victim say's she was jogging

when a man allegedly groped her from behind and ran away. there is no clear descrption behind the man áorá men in these assaults. ( marty ) palo alto police recently arrested a man on separate assault charges. just last month, san mateo county deputies took 26-year-old george moubarak into custody. he is suspected in two sex assault cases in palo alto including one at a cal-train station. officials say he groped two women as they were walking down the ( marty @ landing) another big story we are following this morning. the cleanup continues after multiple trees came crashing into a home in oakland. and it's just some of the storm damage around the bay area. kron four's hermela aregawi shows us the damage this tree did in the oakland hills. fortunately no one was injured. for those who live here.. the trees are a part of the appeal..but this incident is also a reminder that they can

also be a threat.four trees came crashing down in the middle of the night.two splitting this home on thornhill and woodhaven. neighbors describe the moments before the land.terry knight/concerned neighbor: it woke me up. i looked at the clock. it was 3:42 and it was a big crack and i heard it coming down and i knew it was very close.thornhill drive was blocked off by the giant ucalyptus trees.norman paine/concerned neighbor: at first i thought it was lightening and then i realized that maybe it wasn't lightening, maybe it was a landslide with trees that were going with the landslide and they were breaking and cracking. public works crews spent hours cutting the tree bit by bit.norman paine/concerned neighbor: and so today i've been anxious to know what's been going on all day. little did i know that here we had this gigantic tree come down and smash into other trees and to lay into a house like this. that is just unbelievable. that is really scary.neighbor michael leonardich has a redwood tree on his property.michael leonardich/concerned neighbor: my nightmare is that tree comes down and if it does it will take out more than half of the neighborhood. when i see things like this it makes

me worry. we reached out to pg&e, they tell us no powerlines were affected by these trees coming down. reporting in oakland, hermela aregawi, kron 4 news. ( marty ) also in the oakland hills. water is back on in the area where there were two mudslides on friday. five homes were red tagged. you can see the mud, 4-5 feet high against some of the homes in this neighborhood. no injuries were reported. the streets where this happened remain closed this morning. ( marty ) an unusual sighting in santa cruz. a great white shark caught in the shallow surf at pleasure point. the shark, appeared to be injured. several rescue attempts failed. the injured great white was weak and disoriented. it caused a lot of concern for many locals as they gathered to watch. lauren seaver has the story. pkg:a young eight foot great

( marty ) that was lauren seaver reporting. scientists will perform a necropsy to determine how the shark died. ( marty ) the rain has cleared here in the bay area but heavy snow is effecting the sierra. in the last 24 hours, many of the resorts have been hit hard with snow. the folks over at heavenly sent us this video shot yesterday morning. they received 18 inches of snow overnight. listen to the yearly total... 638 inches of snow. 13 inches of new snow fell at northstar. their total on the year is now at 680 inches. squaw valley has now received 682 inches of snow to date skiers we talked with are loving it all the extra powder. ,. video sent to us from kirkwood. they are enjoying 18 inches of fresh snow overnight, bringing their yearly total to 655 inches. many of the resorts have announced they will stay open through the july 4th holiday. ( marty ) take a look at this a tree landed on top of a car and broke a fence in alameda. this is video sent to us by a kron four viewer yesterday. a crew was out there removing all the branches on top of that car. there is no word of any injuries this morning. this is just some of the storm damage here around the bay area after the recent round of wet weather. ( marty ) in the east bay. firefighters have cleared a scene this morning after a car slammed into a home in union city. this is a picture alameda county fire posted on their instagram page. it happened in the 4300 block of cambridge way around 8:30 last night. firefighters immediately shut off the power and water to the home. no injuries were reported. the cause of the accident remains under

( marty ) happening now... the search continues for a missing san jose state university student. 23-year-old kevin redrico was last seen near the benicia bridge thursday morning. he left his home in vallejo that morning and was last seen getting out of his 20-14 red honda accord in benicia. police have searched by helicopter and boat. volunteers have been searching the area on foot ever since. redrico was wearing black clothing when he left home. good without him and now with him i think we're going to be just unbeatable.">( marty ) kevin durant returns to the warriors after being out since february with a knee injury. steph curry missed last night's game with a knee bruise. but the warriors looked unbeatable. kevin durant scored 16 points, had 10 rebounds and 6 assists. they beat new orleans, 123 to 101. golden state has now won 14 in a row. they host the utah jazz tomorrow night at oracle. ( marty ) in baseball... the giants took on the padres looking to get out of their early season funk. and with madison bumgardner on the mound, things got off to a rough start. and that's how the game

would go for the giants. bumgardner pitched a complete game , but the giants offense couldn't get anything going against the padres. the giants lose 2-1. the giants losing streak is now at 4. they are one and 5 on the season now. they will look to salavage a game in the series today in san diego. 1st pitch 1:40. ( marty ) the a's are in texas playing the rangers. no one got on the board until the 6th when the a's scored a run. after adding another run in the 7th, the a's went off in the 8th. scoring 3 runs and putting the game away. final score in this one was 5 to one oakland. kendal graveman had a no hitter into the 7th. oakland will look to take the series against the rangers today. 1st pitch 12:05. ( marty ) happening now... c-h-p officers are investigating a possible drive- by shooting in the east bay. it happened around three yesterday afternoon on the lone tree off-ramp on highway

four in antioch. as of right now we don't know what led up to the shooting. police say no one was injured. ( marty ) in the south bay... police are searching for the person who shot and stabbed a boy in san jose. it happened just after mid-night in the parking lot of fourth street bowl. that's on north first street near east gish street. officers found a teenage boy with at least one gunshot wound and at least one stab wound. the boy was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. ( marty ) local, state, and federal agencies are all working together to investigate and clean up the 112-foot barge that sank just south of the bay bridge on friday. kron four's spencer blake explains what's next in the cleanup. the coast guard boats heading back and forth from sector san francisco are surveying the area where 'vengeance' went down early friday morning.the military is involved on two fronts - the pollution factor, and safety of navigation."we

have implemented a safety zone just to keep vessels away from there, and then also to safeguard our responders." fortunately, neither the submerged, flat barge nor its crane is obstructing the water for other vessels in the area, so commerce is going on as usual.vortex marine construction was using the 112-foot boat as part of maintenance to prevent corrosion on bart's transbay tube. the sunken barge hasn't caused problems for the underwater train track. "most recent scan and analysis is showing it's about 500 feet away, so we know it is in the proximity, and that's fine. we're not concerned by that." "it's too early to tell in the investigation right now, but vortex ácould potentially face some civil penalties for the pollution."those could be levied by the coast guard, the city of san francisco, or by fish and wildlife.right now, that agency is still looking for animals that may have been hurt by the oil sheen."at the moment, no wildlife has been visibly impacted by the release of this red dye diesel."the boom deployed friday seems to have contained the diesel that ádid leak, as seen from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c seven news.the coast guard believes divers hired by vortex

successfully plugged everything that was leaking, but they're still analyzing the four thousand gallons of diesel on 'vengeance.'it will take several days before it's pulled from the bottom of the bay.on yerba buena island, spencer blake, kron four news. ( marty ) activists say new airstrikes in syria have hit the same town in which dozens of civilians were killed last week. meanwhile, andrew spencer reports the syrian air base hit by a u-s missile strike is apparently opeating again. in the aftermath of the u-s missile strike, russia and syria are making it clear the syrian air base is back in operation......but military experts say the strike was not meant to take the base out completely.lt. col. rick francona (ret.) / cnn military analyst:"we were trying to send a message and take out some of the airplanes we believe were involved but knowing full well we were not going to be able to shut down operations at this air base. it wasn't just a few hours after the strike that syria television was already showing

aircraft taking off from that base."indeed, a reporter for russian state-run media posted this video showing a jet taxiing -- purportedly at that air base -- with the caption: "return to work at shayrat." syrian state-run media also released video of military officials touring the base. meanwhile, well north of the base, activists say the same town that was targeted by a chemical attack on tuesday started getting hit by a series of airstrikes less than 24 hours after the u-s operation......though it's not clear who conducted the most recent strikes.while the russian government continues to deny the syrian regime had any involvement in tuesday's chemical strike, senator rand paul -- who has been critical of the president's decision -- says u-s officials are convinced.sen. rand paul / (r) kentucky:"i can't go into the details of anything from the intelligence briefing, but what i can say is that our government, our intelligence communities, our military is convinced that the syrian government was involved with the chemical attack."otherwise mostly quiet this weekend, president donald trump tweeted congratulations to the

military on the strike in syria.i'm andrew spencer, reporting ( marty ) in florida... president trump met with china's president--for the first time since his inauguration. china was one of president trump's main targets during his presidential campaign. but this meeting appeared to go off without a hitch. according to the white house the leaders discussed the north korea crisis. though they have different viewpoints on how to solve the crisis, they agreed to work together. president trump also brought up concerns about china's economic treatment of the u-s. the other major topic they discussed was the south china sea. with china building up and militarizing artificial islands amid u-s opposition. morning... the victim of a deadly officer involved shooting in napa last month remembered by family and friends in oakland. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with noel russell's family at a celebration of his life. (philippe)nats- "if you can just find it in your heart and bring it up to your, your spirit and just let it come out." a celebration of life for 23-year-old noel russell starts with a moment of silence. on a breezy afternoon at middle harbor shoreline park in oakland.... family and friends bow

their heads, looking back on the goodtimes they had with the former clayton valley high school basketball standout. and, as doves are released into the air... his foster mother and cousin leanda russell fights back tears thinking about the only son she says she's ever had.leanda russell/noel's foster mother- 'i remember his laugh, um, his smile, uh, and um, the way he called me ma." more than 100 of noel's loved ones and former teammates joined for the occasion. some, including his high school basketball coach, sharing stories about what made noel unique.leanda russell/noel's foster mother- "he was always the defender of the little guy, you know, so for me this just speaks to who he was. to hear what people are saying, just validates what i already know." noel's family says he certainly had a challenging life... he overcame a lot of odds and faced a lot of trouble... but they say he deserved a better way to go. leanda russell/noel's foster mother- "he went through the foster care system. he had a rough life, but he turned it around, you know." that's until last month... when noel was shot to death by two napa police officers near a home depot. police say he was allegedly threatening motorists and people on foot with a knife. investigators say noel was wanted on two warrants for

( marty ) breaking overnight... at least one person is dead this morning after multiple vehicle crash on 280 in san jose. the accident just before 3 a.m. at mclaughlin avenue. at least one vehicle was overturned and one vehicle caught on fire. we'll bring you more details on this as they enter our newsroom. only see on kron4 news. behind the walls at solano state prison the words of shakespeare are spoken.bitethe marin shakespeare company has been training inmates to perform the bard's play king john and saturday afternoon they performed the play for visitors and their fellow inmates.bitethe performers are from the prison's level three. most are serving life terms. it is the first time level three prisoners have been allowed in the program.the first in level three in california. we're proud. pharaoh brooks introduced the performance explaining the story in rap.king john suggests to hubert to kill the little dooder while he prepared taxes for the churches money scooper.most of the men in the group probably

climbing a tree in someone's backyard in los angeles county. on friday morning, police received reports of a wild animal roaming around a neighborhood. when they got there, they found the 140-pound cat about 30-feet up a tree. the animal was tranquilized and safely removed. some residents were ordered to evacuate their homes as a precaution. ( marty @ landing ) also in southern california, police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a

pedistrian severely injured. it happened march 22nd, when penny casbon was rushing to church. she say's she was reading a verse from her bible. the next thing she knew, she was waking up in an ambulance with no memory of what happened to her. police say this surveillance video shows the victim making her way across the street. when a white van barreled right into her. the van carried her on the hood for several yards before she was launched into the street. (averi)this is still fresh so not much other than what i saw on video of a car with at least three men that pulled up to the victim before he was found dead. but police are calling this a brazen crime.it happened in this busy shopping plaza saturday morning.and oddly enough no one heard the gun shot.a man in his late 20's who has yet to be identified was found dead in a newark shopping center saturday morning.employees say a customer walked by and saw the victim slumped over the steering wheel.the victim was shot at least once in the head while sitting in the driver's seat of this dark grey bmw. the first homicide of the year

( marty ) palo alto police recently arrested a man on separate assault charges. just last month, san mateo county deputies took 26-year-old george moubarak into custody. he is

( marty ) in the east bay. firefighters have cleared a scene this morning after a car slammed into a home in union city. this is a picture alameda county fire posted on their instagram page. it happened in the 4300 block of cambridge way around 8:30 last night. firefighters immediately shut off the power and water to the home. no injuries were reported. the cause of the accident remains under investigation this morning. ( marty ) happening now... the search continues for a missing san jose state university student. 23-year-old kevin redrico was last seen near the benicia bridge thursday morning. he left his home in vallejo that morning and was last seen getting out of his 20-14 red honda accord in benicia. police have searched by helicopter and boat. volunteers have been searching the area on foot ever since. redrico was wearing black clothing when he left home. ( marty ) in the south bay... police are searching for the person who shot and stabbed a boy in san jose. it happened just after mid-night in the parking lot of fourth street bowl. that's on north first street near east gish street. officers found a teenage boy with at least one gunshot wound and at least one stab wound. the boy was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. ( marty @ landing ) local, state, and federal agencies are all working together to investigate and clean up the 112-foot barge that sank just south of the bay bridge on friday. kron four's spencer blake explains what's next in the cleanup. the coast guard boats heading back and forth from sector san francisco are surveying the area where 'vengeance' went down early friday morning.the military is involved on two fronts - the pollution factor, and safety of navigation."we

to the victim before he was found dead. but police are calling this a brazen crime.it happened in this busy shopping plaza saturday morning.and oddly enough no one heard the gun shot.a man in his late 20's who has yet to be identified was found dead in a newark shopping center saturday morning.employees say a customer walked by and saw the victim slumped over the steering wheel.the victim was shot at least once in the head while sitting in the driver's seat of this dark grey bmw. the first homicide of the year was called into police at half past noon.but plaza employees say they think it happened hours before.lt. chomnan loth, newark police departmentnewark police aren't releasing any surveillence video at this time.but we were able to watch footage from a nearby business. in it a white or silver suv pull up to the car where the victim was found - about three men got out and into the victim's car then fled just before a call came through that the man was killed. locals say this is unusual for the area.crime data dot com reports an average of one homicide per year in the past 10 to 15 years in the city.so this is really striking a chord with the community.

searching for a man who they say sexually assaulted two women on the stanford university campus... they happened within 20 minutes of each other. both incidents were reported friday night on escondido road. the first one around 10:40 p-m when police say a man groped a woman from behind and continued walking east. then, around 11 p-m, a second victim say's she was jogging when a man allegedly groped her from behind and ran away. there is no clear descrption behind the man áorá men in these assaults. ( marty ) palo alto police recently arrested a man on separate assault charges. just last month, san mateo county deputies took 26-year-old george moubarak into custody. he is suspected in two sex assault cases in palo alto including one at a cal-train station. officials say he groped two women as they were walking down the ( marty @ landing) another big story we are following this morning. the cleanup continues after multiple trees came crashing into a home in oakland. and it's just

( marty ) happening now... c-h-p officers are investigating a possible drive- by shooting in the east bay. it happened around three yesterday afternoon on the lone tree off-ramp on highway four in antioch. as of right now we don't know what

led up to the shooting. police say no one was injured. ( marty ) in the south bay... police are searching for the person who shot and stabbed a boy in san jose. it happened just after mid-night in the parking lot of fourth street bowl. that's on north first street near east gish street. officers found a teenage boy with at least one gunshot wound and at least one stab wound. the boy was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. ( marty @ landing ) local, state, and federal agencies are all working together to investigate and clean up the 112-foot barge that sank just south of the bay bridge on friday. kron four's spencer blake explains what's next in the cleanup. the coast guard boats heading back and forth from sector san francisco are surveying the area where 'vengeance' went down early friday morning.the military is involved on two fronts - the pollution factor, and safety of navigation."we have implemented a safety zone just to keep vessels away from there, and then also to safeguard our responders." fortunately, neither the

backyard in los angeles county. on friday morning, police received reports of a wild animal roaming around a neighborhood. when they got there, they found the 140-pound cat about 30-feet up a tree. the animal was tranquilized and safely removed. some residents were ordered to evacuate their homes as a precaution. ( marty @ landing ) also in southern california, police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a pedistrian severely injured. it happened march 22nd, when penny casbon was rushing to church. she say's she was reading a verse from her bible. the next thing she knew, she was waking up in an ambulance with no memory of what happened to her. police say this surveillance video shows the victim making her way across the street. when a white van barreled right into her. the van carried her on the hood for several yards before she was launched into the street.
