(grant) world news now... and a major military strike in afghanistan... where the u-s has dropped its largest non-nuclear bomb. that's according to military officials, who say the 22- thousand-pound "moab" bomb...as it's known... was dropped in afghanistan this morning. they say the target was isis tunnels and personnel. the military is currently assessing the damage. "moab" - short for "the mother of all bombs" - was developed during the iraq war. but the white house says it's the first time this particular bomb ... has been used on the battlefield. (sot) (grant) "the united states takes the fight against isis very seriously and in order to defeat the group, we must deny them operational space, which we did." white house officials say isis has been using i-e-d's, bunkers, and tunnels to solidify its

a dog died and five tents were lost in a fire at a homeless encampment in oakland. (dbx vo) it happened right under interstate 8-80 between 22nd and 23rd avenues. the fire was reported just after seven this morning..and took crews about 12 minutes to put out. witnesses say one of the camp's residents had been seen cooking the fire chief says that may be how the fire started.. traffic was backed up on interstate 880 as a result of smoke for some of the morning commute.. coroner has released the name of the man that was hit and killed on highway 92 wednesday night. he has been identified as 67-year old carlos perez.. the chp says perez was walking near the center divider near el camino real when his was hit by a lexus. the accident happed around 10 p-m c-h-p says perez died at the scene. the driver of the lexus stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. (vicki) a big story we are tracking tonight. police say a woman was dragged off a san francisco municipal railway bus and robbed. it happened yesterday night around nine-30 in the area of fillmore and mcallister streets. officers say the 30-year-old victim was on a bus when a suspect approached her and tried to steal her belongings. several other suspects allegedly then dragged her off the bus and punched her while taking her cellphone, wallet, and even some of her clothes. the

(grant) police in berkeley are bracing for another round of protests between supporters and opponents of president donald trump. this comes after after last month's rally.... quickly turned into a bloody brawl between liberals and conservatives... the march 4 trump rally sparked several injuries and arrests.(vicki) this weekend's protest is expected to happen this saturday in the same area... martin luther king jr. civic center park. (vicki) and berkeley police need your help tonight in identifying three more people they say rioted during last month's pro-trump demonstration. it happened on march fourth at a demonstration at the civic center park in what began as a rally in support of president donald trump. fights then broke out when counter- protesters showed up. police say they seized numerous weapons some of the demonstrators were carrying including bats, shields and helmets. (grant) stockton has been dealing with city council protests for weeks over an officer involved shooting. in return that is racking up over time hours for police. here you can see a chaotic scene in downtown stockton as police in riot gear chased after protesters they say turned violent and were blocking streets. police say the protests have

warranted a stronger presence and also 18-thousand dollars in officer over-time pay. some members of the community say it is a waste of tax dollars. in a statement stockton mayor michael tubbs says when people break the law that results in draining resources.. joe silva/stockton police department:"you have to have a good police response to deal with those situations so that's why you'll see that type of overtime that's occurring at city council meetings."(grant) one community advocate says he thinks if police were not at the protests to begin with then they would not turn violent. (vicki) one of the two women who fell into a river near fresno has died... and now rescuers are working to find the other woman alive... crews say the two young women were hiking in the sequoia national forest when one of them slipped into the tule river. the other woman went in to help her out. as of right now... it's unclear if the woman who died was the person who slipped or who went in to help. as of right now they have not released any

(grant) northern california sets a new record... the national weather service says this is now the wettest winter in the sierra. officials say they measure just under 90 inches of rain and snow... that beats the previous record of 88-point- five inches... and it was set in the winter of 1982-1983. winter storms have blanketed mountains in snow, flooded neighborhoods and even caused damage that could top one billion dollars. and as we know...even though it's now spring...the rain and snow...is not showing any solid signs of stopping. animal shelter is asking for the publics help in finding the people behind recent animal fighting cases. in the past week animal shelter authories have found two young pit bulls in watsonville they believe were used as bait for dog fights.. they say both puppies have wounds and have behaivor consistent with dogs used for fighting. in the past few months they have also found more than 75 dead roosters in watsonville that appear to have been involved in fights. a 5 thousand dollar reward is being offered for information leading to arrests of the people responsible. (grant) also in santa cruz county...residents of a neighborhood in lompico are now keeping their pets inside...so they're not mauled to death. neighbors say these two dogs have killed at least four cats in the past two weeks.. residents do not know if these dogs are aggressive towards people but want them caught before they

the religious holiday celebrated by jews around the world. it's also about special food and wine. tonight on dine and dish - we taste passover dinner with a twist. many people do traditional passover dinners at home. but there are restaurants stepping up to the plate... some, like canela bistro in san francisco's castro, are even going gourmet. probably only the pharaohs had arugula... in honor of the holiday celebrating jews exodus from egypt, chef mat schuster is whipping up a special four- course passover menu with all the fixings.(vicki) the matza aside, this is not your father's passover dinner. sure, there's all the essentials... just prepared with a spanish touch. (vicki) and you may remember just last week the bay area had a shark scare of it's own. april 7th a great white beached itself at pleasure point in santa cruz. the deceased eight foot fish forced most beach-goers to leave the area. after a necropsy, scientist say an infection is to blame for making the shark sick. (grant) california's child vaccination rate is up... it comes in the first year the state has required nearly all public school children to get shots. according to state public health officials... nearly 96 percent of this year's kindergartners received all required vaccines. that's the highest rate since the current immunization regimen was put in place in

2001. a law passed three years ago prohibited parents from opting out of vaccinations due to personal beliefs. as a result... california's immunization rates have been climbing. that law was tightened in 20-15 following a measles outbreak in disneyland. chandra... a waitress at the cheescake factory and noi thai cuisine in waikiki was waiting on visitors from austrailia. during the dinner cayla says she had great conversation and told the couple she had been working two jobs to pay off her student loans after their meal she was shocked to see they left her a 400 dollar tip.. now for the even more amazing part... the couple came back to the restaurant the next day and offered cayla ten thousand dollars to help pay for her college tuition. final look at the weather with chief meteorologist brittney shipp.
