knocking down the victim and then beating him before running off. the victim, 54-year-old robert viera, spent two days on life support before dying yesterday. serrano will face murder charges. (steve) also in the east bay. police say a dog died and five tents were lost in a fire at a homeless encampment in oakland. it happened right under interstate 8-80 between 22nd and 23rd avenues. the fire was reported just after seven this morning..and took

crews about 12 minutes to put out. witnesses say one of the camp's residents had been seen cooking the fire chief says that may be how the fire started.. traffic was backed up on interstate 880 as a result of smoke for some of the morning commute.. ( steve ) investigators need help to night identifying a man struck and killed last night on highway 92 in san mateo. the california highway patrol says the man was walking along the freeway in the westbound direction toward half moon bay. he was hit by an s-u-v just past the el camino real ramp. at this time, the c-h-p says it appears he is about 50 years old and possbily latino. he was a wearing a stanford hat. the collision remains under investigation. ( vicki ) new at 6 uber. may be fined $one point one million bucks for failing to investigate and or suspend drivers who are reported by a passenger to be intoxicated. that's according to california regulators. they say the golden state requires ride- hailing companies to have a
