this morning.... a man shot during a burglary in the east bay is expected to survive. but he may be paralyzed. it happened wednesday night in the oakland hills. and the burglars got away and are still on the loose. kron4's alecia reid spoke to the family and has the story. jeremy white could have easily been killed with that bullet that pierced through his chest. but he's glad to be alive tonight.however his life may never be the same.pkgjeremy white remains in the intensive care unit tonight after thieves break into his oakland hills home, and shoot him once in the chest."hit his lungs, very little lung damage. went through his lung and came out through his spine"the 30 year

( james ) in the east bay... a horrifying atempted murder of a 1- year-old. police say it's a miracle the shooter missed. firing a gun at an infant from point blank range monday afternoon at the mcdonalds in san leandro's washington plaza. police say adana ibe entered the mcdonalds, and at some point pulled out a gun and from a foot away opened fire at an 11 month old baby who was sitting in a booth with his mother. according to detectives the 11 month old baby is the son of ibe's boyfriend marcel brooks. now brooks and ibe, both from antioch, have both been charged with 5 counts of attempted murder. court documents indicate brooks told the mother to meet him at the mcdonalds with the baby. then once he knew the mother was there, he texted ibe to carry out the plan.

leandro pd: i've never been apart of a case or investigated a case where the intended murder victim was an infant. it's very disturbing. he would never ever and i'm saying ever be involved in nothing like this. he has a full time job. he's active in all his kids life. he would neve hurt a child.>( james ) the infant and his mother are okay. court documents indicate brooks and ibe were arrested together at a sacrmaento motel tuesday morning. brooks denied his involvement. but ibe confessed and said it was brooks' idea to kill his 11 month old son. brooks and ibe reportedly have a child themselves. police say a love triangle is a factor here... they say last month ibe tried to use her car to hit and kill the baby and his mother. the two suspects were arraigned yesterday in hayward. they are set to return to court next week when they could enter pleas. school has offered to reschedule her event next month. the event was planned for april 27th... but in light of recent violent protests the school said they just could not find a secure venue for that date. this is a protest from february when alt-right figure milo yian-nop-olis tried to speak at uc berkeley. the event quickly got out of control. in a series of tweets ann coulter says she's still coming on the original date. no matter what. kron4's hermela aregawi talked to campus police and students and has the story. ( james ) a change of administration at albany high school. principal jeff anderson will not be returning to school for the rest of this school year. this comes in the wake of two separate displays of discrimination at the school. those incidents included a racist instagram post targeting african americans and nazi signs being flashed on campus. parents say the students who posted these racist displays were not disciplined properly. ron rosenbaum will be the interim principal for the rest of the school year. superintendent valerie williams issued a statement on the matter. it said "a-u-s-d did not release mr. anderson from employment. he has been reassigned to another position within the district. i am confident that mr. rosenbaum

( james ) the champs elysees in paris is back open after a terror attack that left one police officer dead and three others hurt. french officials saying a gunman opened fire on a police van with an automatic weapon. police fired back killing the suspect. investigators say this is not the first time the attacker has hurt an officer. that attacker was known to french security services for radical islamist activity. the islamic state has claimed responsibility for the attack. vice president mike pence spoke on the matter. saying this is the latest reminder that terrorism can strike anywhere anytime. another big story we are following this morning... a nationwide manhunt has ended in northern california with a teen girl found safe and her teacher in custody. the tennessee teacher is accused of kidnapping the 15-year-old student. both were found in siskiyou county scott mcclean is in columbia tennessee with the latest. after 39 days on the run, a tennessee teacher and the student he is accused of kidnapping, were found in northern california. mark gwyn/ tbi director: "elizabeth thomas is a beautiful 15-year- old girl. she is loved by her friends, her family, and the community of columbia...we couldn't be happier to tell you she will soon be on her way back home to tennessee." investigators say the teen and her 50-year-old teacher - tad cummins -- were found in a remote cabin in northern california, after someone called in a tip wednesday night, that led them to cummin's car.a special response team surrounded the area and waited in freezing temperatures overnight before arresting cummins thursday morning. sheriff jon lopey/ siskiyou county: "especially

peninsula girl is home safe after she went missing wednesday after school she was found in woodland yesterday afternoon. myra renteria, was last seen during lunch at crittenden middle school in mountian view. her parents reported her missing around 4 o'clock wednesday and police launched a search. renteria was reportedly spotted on bart but somehow she ended up in woodland just north of davis. police believe it's possible the teen ran away from home. ( james ) the man suspected of going on a racially charged shooting rampage in fresno that left four people dead has made his first court apperance. kori muhammad is accused of gunning down three men tuesday night and a motel security guard just a few days earlier. police say, muhammad was motivated by racial hatred. muhammad has been charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of the security guard. and now his father has spoken out. saying his son who was originally called cory taylor developed a hate for white people at an early age. and blamed whites for his drug

three hand written notes next to a bible in his cell. but it's not clear what those notes said. police also say hernandez was found dead with the words "john 3:16" written in red marker on his forehead. hernandez died early wednesday morning after he was found hung with a bedsheet in his cell. the former star tight end for the new england patriots had been serving a life sentence without parole after being convicted in the june 2013 murder of odin lloyd. hernandez's family is turning over his brain for analysis and research. researchers will determine whether he has what's known as c-t-e... a progressive degenerative disease found in people who have had repeated blows to the head. many recent ex-football players have who committed suicide have been found to have the brian disease. ( james ) after months of wet weather vector control agencies around the bay area are gearing up to deal with what could be a very active year for mosquitoes. including those that carry west nile virus. kron 4's charles clifford was in the south bay where he spoke with vector control in santa clara county about the problem. for the past four years, the bay area has been dealing with drought conditions. that meant relatively little standing water on the ground and the mosquitoes tended to be concentrated near those pools of moisture.. now, after a wet winter, there's a lot of water out there and that could mean more mosquitoes which could be carrying disease like west nile virus or even possibly zika virus.sot

higher than normal.>russ parman is the assistant manager at the santa clara county vector control district. he says that they have already been out looking for standing water and trying to spot potential mosquito breeding spots.sot in addition to trying to keep west nile virus under control, vector control districts across the bay area are also on the lookout for zika virus. so far, the two types of mosquitoes that spread zika don't live here in the bay area, but they are found in the central valley and in southern california so it's quite possible these insects could show up here. parman says that in addition to possibly carrying zika virus, these mosquitoes are very annoying.sotvector control is now asking for the public's help in controlling the mosquito population and keeping zika virus out of the bay area.sot

this comes in the wake of two separate displays of discrimination at the school. those incidents included a racist instagram post targeting african americans and nazi signs being flashed on campus. parents say the students who posted these racist displays were not disciplined properly. ( darya ) a man is in the hospital this morning after being stabbed near san francisco's 4-20 celebration in golden gate park. it happened near haight street and central avenue last night. police say the victim and another man were involved in a fight. the victim is expected to recover. the other man got away. ( james ) event organizers are already looking ahead to next year after the 4-20 celebration at golden gate park had very few problems. about 15-thousand people went to yesterday's celebration. this was the first year that recreational marijuana is legal in the state. also for the first time, a group of event managers worked with city officials to organize the event. local businesses set up fencing, security and

( darya ) a santa rosa couple is still missing this morning... after their airplane did not land earlier this week in petaluma. mark and brenda richards have not been seen since leaving the truckee- tahoe airport monday afternoon. brenda richards is believed to have been the pilot of the couple's single-engine plane. the sierra county sheriff's office says the richards were supposed to land at petaluma municipal airport nut never arrived. neighbors are all hoping for the best. could start receiving money to help them recover. the city council approved using 615-thousand dollars to help those left without a home. some of them could receive checks as early as today. the money would help up to 70 people. the benefits range from 65-hundred dollars to over 12-thousand per household. four people died in the fire which is being blamed on a candle. ( james ) president trump says there could soon be a new healthcare plan to replace the affordable care act. republicans in congress say they have reached a deal that could get them the votes they need to pass the new healthcare law. but the new plan faces some big obstacles. a core group of republicans says it still won't vote for anything short of a full repeal of the affordable care act. it is not clear if a full repeal is included in the new plan. but the white house is confident that once the new plan is finished it will get through congress.

( james ) diet sodas are being blamed for a higher risk of stroke and dementia. that's according to a new study.( darya ) researchers found that people who drank one diet drink a day were almost three times as likely to have a stroke or be diagnosed with dementia.( james ) scientists say they are not sure exactly what it is in the diet soda that can cause the stroke or dementia. but the american beverage association that low- calorie sweeteners found in the diet sodas have been proven safe by worldwide government safety authorities. ( darya ) your fitness tracker may not be as accurate as you think when tracking your heart rate. that's according to a new study out of the university of wisconsin. ( james ) researchers compared the readings from various commercial fitness trackers to the readings from machines used in hospitals. they found that the fitness trackers were fairly accurate when the person was resting

( james ) four bay area hospitals are facing fines for improper patient care. state health officials announced the fines yesterday. the fines were issued to hospitals in napa, san francisco and redwood city. napa's queen of the valley medical center received the highest fine totaling 225- thousand dollars. state health officials say the fine was related to three different cases where patients received substandard care back in 2013. the hospital says it has taken steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. the other bay area hospitals to be fined include kaiser permanente medical center and california pacific medical center's st. luke campus in san francisco and sequoia hospital in redwood city. ( darya )(áááboxesááá) an inmate on death row at san quentin prison attacked a guard with a knife. it happened yesterday morning when 49-year-old anthony delgado was having a medical exam. the guard has a severe injury on his face.

he is expected to make a full recovery. delgado was sentenced to death 17 years ago for killing two inmates at corcoran state prison. ( darya ) a soul singer and the father of actor cuba gooding junior has died. cuba gooding senior was found dead inside his car in los angeles yesterday. gooding was the lead singer in the band called the main ingredient. the group is most known for the hit 1970's song "everybody plays the fool." police are still investigating what caused gooding's death. he was 72 years old. ( james ) if you are planning on visiting the white house this summer...secret service agents will keep you further away. agents have now drafted a plan to add more barriers to the south lawn. this comes after two people jumped the fence at the white house last month. one of them was a man from milpitas who scaled the grounds for fifteen minutes. tourists say they are not pleased with the new plan.

( darya ) a former tennessee teacher accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old student is arrested in northern california. tad cummins and 15-year-old elizabeth thomas were found yesterday in a cabin near redding. that's almost two- thousand miles away from elizabeth's house. elizabeth was reported missing over a month ago. the two stayed one night at a cabin in siskiyou county, but might have been in the area for a week. cummins told people the pair were newly-weds. the cabin's caretaker was the one who told authorities.

( james ) aaron hernandez's brain is being turned over to researchers now that his death in prison is ruled a suicide. a medical team will determine whether he has what is known as c-t-e. a disease found in people who have had repeated blows to the head. a number of n-f-l players diagnosed with c-t-e have committed suicide. investigators are also releasing new information about his death. they found three handwritten notes next to a bible in his cell. it has not been released what the notes say. he also had the words "john 3-16" written on his forehead. ( darya ) after months of wet weather, agencies around the bay area are gearing up for a very active year for mosquitoes. that includes those that carry the west nile virus. the santa clara county vector control says there is still a lot of standing water from the storms and that is a good breeding ground for mosquitoes.

( james ) bill o'reilly is leaving fox news with a whole lot of money. sources involved in o'reilly's exit from the network say he will be paid tens of millions of dollars. that's because o'reilly signed a new contract shortly before being fired. that contract was reportedly worth 25 million dollars a year. fox news announced wednesday that o'reilly would be leaving the network. the move comes weeks after it was revealed that five women who accused o'reilly of sexual harassment and verbal abuse received about 13 million dollars in settlements. truck slams into a home on a quiet street in hayward because the driver was going too fast. this is a picture of the truck taken shortly after the accident on kelly street. witnesses say the driver did not stick around to answer questions. people who live in the area say speeding is a growing problem on the road and they want police to do more than put up speed limit signs.

richards is believed to have been the pilot of the couple's single-engine plane. the sierra county sheriff's office says the richards were supposed to land at petaluma municipal airport nut never arrived. neighbors are all hoping for the best. ( darya ) president trump says there could soon be a new healthcare plan to replace the affordable care act. republicans in congress say they have reached a deal that could get them the votes they need to pass the new healthcare law. but the new plan faces some big obstacles. a core group of republicans says it still won't vote for anything short of a full repeal of the affordable care act. it is not clear if a full repeal is included in the new plan. but the white house is confident that once the new plan is finished it will get through congress. ( darya ) congress is also facing a possible showdown over government spending. right

now there are debates over the cost of the president's proposed border wall and defense spending. if a deal can not be reached by the end of next week... there could be a government shutdown. hospitals are facing fines for improper patient care. state health officials announced the fines yesterday. the fines were issued to hospitals in napa, san francisco and redwood city. napa's queen of the valley medical center received the highest fine totaling 225- thousand dollars. state health officials say the fine was related to three different cases where patients received substandard care back in 2013. the hospital says it has taken steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. the other bay area hospitals to be fined include kaiser permanente medical center and california pacific medical center's st. luke campus in san francisco and sequoia hospital in redwood city. on 6:45... here's a quick look at the top stories we're following this morning... san jose police are searching for the driver who crashe their car into a medical center. the crash happened at the regional medical center on north jackson avenue around 1 this morning. crews say there is siginificant damage to the building.( darya ) a father is in jail on atempted murder charges of his 1-year-old baby. police say adana ibe opened fire on an 11 month old baby who was sitting in a booth with his mother at a mcdonald's in san leandro. the 11 month old baby is the son of ibe's boyfriend marcel brooks. now brooks and ibe, both from antioch, have both been charged with five counts of attempted murder. court documents say brooks told the mother to meet him at the mcdonalds with the baby.( james ) also... a man who was shot during a
