>> now, for april 21st, 2017, this is "entertainment tonight." >> cops helicopters, and high drama, richard simmons spotted in public for the first time in more than three years. >> returning home from the hospital with the help of police, and paparazzi were waiting for him. >> richard, are you okay? give us a thumbs-up. >> that's richard simmons, walking slowly, assisted by his housekeeper and longtime manager. returning home after hospitalization for severe indigesti indigesti indigestion. lapd also there, after concerns about paparazzi outside his gate. here's a timeline, richard and his housekeeper arrive at 5:12:00 p.m.

you can see him in the backseat. for almost 45 minutes, richard waits inside the car, as his housekeeper tries to work out a plan to get richard inside without the paparazzi getting a shot. 6:01:00 p.m., an lapd chopper flies overhead. 6:05:00 p.m., officers arrive. and after more than an hour, richard is still in the garage, on a day when temperatures reached 79 degrees. richard's manager told us, doctors were pleased with his progress, and released him sooner than expected. he's glad to be home and feeling good. still, a lot of people are wondering why richard is going to such great extremes to hide. there has been speculation about his appearance, that he may have gained weight or is suffering

serious health problems. when we talk to simmons a year ago, he just said he wanted a break from the spotlight. >> i'm at peace, feeling better, and i just need some time. >> when he's ready to make an appearance, we'll have it. and the passing of r and b singer, cuba gooding sr., the father of oscar winner cuba gooding jr. the investigation continuing here in los angeles. >> rescue 105 on scene. >> "et" was on the scene yesterday, after cuba gooding's father was found slumped over. >> alcohol was found in the car, and some kind of paraphernalia.
