(grant) the man is accused of killing a woman near a museum in walnut creek yesterday afternoon... he was later spotted in a car in martinez - where he refused to surrender to officers. the standoff began around 7 last night - near the chevron at the intersection of howe road and arnold drive. that's where kron four's haaziq madyun is standing by live... with more on how police were able to successfully bring the suspect into custody. 24-hours after a woman was gunned down in walnut creek followed by an intense 19-hour police standoff here in martinez...the murder suspect is now in custody the 19-hour standoff ended

(catherine) an 18- year-old man has been arrested - accused of sexually assaulting and beating to death an elderly woman who was on a morning walk near sacramento. today the sheriff's department identified the suspect as neven butler.he was already in custody in connection to a separate attack. he's now facing charges of murder and assault...in the death of an 86-year-old woman. deputies say he killed 86-year-old fusako petrus after she tried to help a friend who was also being attacked by butler. butler is scheduled to be arraigned on monday. (catherine) homicide detectives are continuing their search for a five-year- old boy in southern california, missing since last saturday. a search warrant was served at the father's house in pasadena today...detectives are looking for forensic evidence or any other leads. 35-year-old ara-mazd andressian senior was found unconscious in a park when he was supposed to be

watching his son. police arrested him that day but he was eventually released. investigators say they don't have enough evidence to charge him with a crime. (grant) a man was arrested after three seprate firebombs were set off in fairfield... one... at an apartment complex...another at the police department. now people who live in the area say they feel terrorized, but are glad no one was serioulsy hurt. kron4's terisa estacio tells us surveillance video played a major role in catching the suspect in the act. it was right here - this home at the apartment complex on the 2900 block north texas street where police say the first of three firebombs were set off. in a four hour period starting thursday night. matt bloesch, fairfield police. very serious. we got the first call around 10pm - the folks made mention that someone threw it through their window. leana tornincasa 2:51 it could have been so bad, we have families and children, whole lives could have been ruined. leana lives in the complex - residents evacuated after the fire bomb went off - then another fire bomb went off, this time at thames court about a mile away from the

apartment complex. an hour after that, an explosion at the police department - with dispatchers hearing a loud noise. bloesch. officers put out the device. there was a large concern now that there were 3 devices. terisa estacio. police were able to get a description because there are surveillance cameras. bloesch. officers were able to pull it up and it actually had suspect detonating device. officer bloesch says this is the suspect, matthew scott jones, 39 of fairfield. he reportedly lives in the complex on north texas close to where the victim lives. sources tell kron four news that the bombing could have been about a drugs deal. police are not confirming - saying this is an ongoing investigation with many unknowns. they will say they have arrested jones on attempted murder, arson, possession of a destructive device and hate crimes. the man who lived in the apartment is african american, jones is white. in fairfield, terisa estacio kron4 news.

(grant) the man caught on video being violently beaten by alamada county sheriff deputies... will get nearly 6- million dollars from the county. this is video of the incident that happened back in november of 2015.... it all began when stanislav petrov - led officers on a pursuit from san leandro and ended in san francisco. officers began chasing him for driving a

stolen car... which he allegedly used to ram two patrol cars. today alameda county agreed to pay 5-point-5 million dollars to petrov who is currently in jail on gun and drug charges in an unrelated case. two officers charged in this incident - no longer work for the department and are out on bail - awaiting trail. (catherine) two san francisco patrol cars...with their lights on and sirens blazing...crashed into each other while responding to a call for backup last night...injuring three officers. all three officers were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening. some one who lives near 15th and mission streets snapped these pictures of the scene after hearing the crash. it happened right before 11 last night. one of the vehicles crashed into a fire hydrant before hitting a building. the three officers are expected to recover. two employees caught pocketing money from riders. muni officials launched an investigation and found tens of thousands of dollars had been lost in cash fares. two conductors have been arrested. one of them was found with 32-thousand dollars in cash at his home. authorities say using cash has been part of the cable car's 140-year tradition...but it might be time to modernize. (catherine) gas is about to get even more expensive in california. that's because of that 5-billion dollar gas tax the governor has signed into law today. it's aimed at repairing roads and bridges throughout the state. we'll probably see the spike in prices in november. but californians will have to wait more than a year before crews begin repaving roads. part of the law will also make it more expensive to register vehicles....and that price hikegoes into effect in january. vallejo is conducting a review into its response a report of as many as a dozen dead dogs... found near a park and golf course.(grant) as kron four's philippe djegal reports... the city says the person who tried to notify animal control about the gruesome discovery -- called the wrong number. (philippe) by the time animal control officers in vallejo were called out to investigate a report remains of dead dogs off columbus parkway... city spokesperson joanna altman says the animals were so badly decomposed -- they were unrecognizable.joanna altman/city of vallejo- "it appears that there perhaps was one that was a dog, and then the remains of some other animals. we did do a check of the animal that was most in tact, um, we checked it for a micro-chip -- unfortunately,

there was nothing present." altman says the person who initially made this discovery reached out to an animal control officer's cellphone on february 17th... but that off-duty officer was on leave at the time... and, did not receive the call.joanna altman/city of vallejo- "eventually, the original reporting party contacted cares, which is an animal rescue organization, um, on march 20th. and, from there, cares helped contact the dispatch animal control dispatch and that's when we responded on march 25th." so some five weeks had lapsed between when carine (cuh-reen) peters, the woman who initially discovered the decomposing animals... got ahold of the "center of animal rescue and education in solano county", or "cares" -- and, the city's animal control service. the city says that lost time has made it difficult to investigate whether or not a crime has been committed... or, how many dogs were actually involved because some of the remains had been eaten by other animals. marie chua is the founder of "cares" and is fielding calls from families with lost pets concerned their animal may have been one of the deceased.

(catherine) the mother of missing yuba college student aly yeoman is speaking publicly for the first time... her 20-year-old daughter has now been missing nearly a month... aly was last seen march 30th - leaving a friend's house in yuba city. her truck was found a few days later down a levee -- stuck in mud. police found her cell phone and a single pair of footprints walking away from the truck. her mother says she's been living through a nightmare.....and believes aly is alive somewhere. she says she chose to speak out now because she wants aly and those who know about her - to

goats have been used to clean out creeks and prevent flooding..in southern california they are using them for a different reason..(grant) they're being used to help prevent wildfires. here one is all suited up... for the past few years anaheim fire and rescue has put goats to work in certain parts of the city that was vulnerable to fire. the goats act as natural weed eaters --- munching up excess vegetation and undergrowth. anaheim fire department says they use about 125 goats to clear out 27 acres of overgrowth. because some of the victims were able to identify the suspect from video surveillance cameras.cameras on board the train capuring at least some of the chaos...when somewhere between 40-60 young people swarmed the station...some robbing seven people on a dublin bound train saturday night.while this crime was shocking in the sheer number of suspects....bart police have been tracking an increase in crime....up roughly 22-percent in the first three months of this year over the same time last year. driven mostly by robberies of smart phones or other personal electronics. prior to the incident last week kind of an uptick in that type of behavior in that type of behavior. since march 19 individual and group robberies and those arrested range in age from 12-21 years old.three bart stations have been determined to be hotspots for juvenile crime activity....colesium station...where saturday's event took place as well as fruitvale and san leandro's bayfair stop.bart had already begun boosting patrols ahead of saturday's melee....but now they are implementing emergency staffing.normally you reserve emergency staffing for some type of critical incident like a earthquake got a natural disaster but in this

( steve ) a rough morning for bart. it was testing out some new trains when they stalled right near the lake merritt station. this created some major delays until they could get the tracks cleared. ( steve ) this isn't the first time we have seen bart run in problems when testing out the new trains. last april, some test cars ran off the tracks at the hayward yard and plowed into a dirt pile. an investigation determined a cable connected to some of the equipment got pinched in a cabinet door. it then shorted out and disabled the braking system leading to the crash. bart made changes to the train's software to prevent future crashes. ( pam ) just in to the kron four newsroom ... a man seen being brutally beaten by alameda county sheriff's deputies .... has reached a settlement.( steve ) the video went viral... and now the county is going to have to pay up. grant lodes has the details. ( grant ) this video was eye-opening for some people

when it went public...and its now evidence helping give the man beaten...millions. the incident itself happened in november of 2015. the suspect, stanislav petrov, had led the deputies on a chase from san leandro across the bay bridge into san francisco's mission district. petrov crashed and tired to outrun the deputies. they caught up to him and that's when the beating happened. petrov was left with numerous broken bones, cuts and a concussion. prosecutors say he was struck at least 30 times in about 40 seconds. the two deputies are facing charges in san francisco... they have yet to go to trial. the settlement is a little complicated but we can tell you petrov is going to receive a total of 5-and-a-half million dollars. one million will come directly from the country... the rest will be picked up by the county's insurance policy. one little sidenote about petrov... he is still in trouble...on na unrelated case. he faces gun and drug charges stemming from a federal case.

the boys and girls club in petaluma has been charged with felony child endangerment today. 22-year-old benjamin goerke did not enter a plea deal. he is also being charged for possession of child pornography after investigators found he had taken photos of a young girl at the after school program and posted them to a porn site. goerke has worked as a program director since 20-14 and has since been released from the position.

(pam) the trump administration says, it is going to put off fighting a judge's ruling... blocking an executive order to withhold money from sanctuary cities. unlike the immediate response we saw, when the travel bans were blocked... president trump will not be immediately appealing the ruling. on tuesday, a judge blocked the executive order which was challenged by san francisco and santa clara county. in his ruling the judge said the president could not set new conditions on congressional spending. a major development in the murder of an 86-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted and beaten this week near sacramento... a teenaged suspect is under arrest... catherine heenan is here with the latest from the sacramento sheriff's office... (catherine) authorities have arrested an 18-year-old -- neven glen butler....who'll be arraigned monday. this is the man accused of assaulting two elderly women wednesday morning...as they walked near a high school running track. one of the women - 86- year-old fusako petrus - died of her injuries.

the city says it appears carine (cuh-reen) peters, who we spoke with on wednesday, called the cellphone of an animal control officer on february 17th... but that officer never received the call or responded to it because he was on leave at the time. city spokesperson joanna altman says it wasn't until peters reached out an animal rescue group... "center of animal rescue and education in solano county" or "cares" on march 20th, which then notified vallejo's animal control five days later... that officers responded to the area.joanna altman/city of vallejo- "march 25th is when we received the phone call. we responded within an hour of the phone call." but by the then, altman says the remains were so badly decomposed, the officers could only identity one, possibly two dogs. not a dozen as originally reported. that has complicated the investigation into the matter. the city of vallejo is working with the solano county sheriff's office and animal control... looking into whether or not this incident is tied to any other recent animal cruelty cases.joanna altman/city of vallejo- "records that we might have

( steve ) in oakland: three ctiy council members are criticizing mayor libby schaaf's plan to spend money from a soda tax. it was passed last november, charging a penny-per-ounce. the money would go to the general fund but would be spent on fighting childhood obesity. however the three council members say schaaf wants to use the tax revenue to help close oakland's budget deficit. the mayor's office says the money will be spent appropriately. ( pam ) much will be discussed about the first 100 days of the trump presidency this weekend, but a government shutdown will not be part of it.
