take to the streets today in solidarity for a nationwide may day strike. immigrant and union groups will march in cities across the u-s for immigrant workers' rights and protest against president trump's efforts to increase deportations. kron four's lydia pantazes explains. from bakeries.. to markets and even western wear....you'll see similar signs on all these businesses along willow street in san jose....telling customers... their doors are staying closed on may day, also known as international workers day."even though it hurts our businesses not to be

open but we gotta be strong." juan garabato is the owner of juan garabato western wear in san jose.he'll be one of the of business owners taking part in the may day rally at the mexican heritage plaza in san jose and the march from the plaza to arena greens.he closed last year as well...but he says this year is different. "this year we feel it more, more stronger.""there is so much turmoil and racism out there that we ant to prove that we are important and that we do form a big part of this country and by speaking up and doing our part, i think that's that only way people are going to listen."more than half of the businesses on willow street are expected to close... organizers expect as many as 50-thousand people to show up. "this year we've been very successful working with small businesses with community members to take the day off work to close or small businesses and also working with big tech companies to allow their employees to be off without any type of retaliation."jeremy barousse

"do not only is it a day to honor the contributions of workers but we also use it to honor the contributions of immigrants."barousse says the political climate is a big part of why so many people are expected to get involved this year."communities are fearful and they're also want an opportunity to rise up and show a little bit of our power or collective power as community members." ( terisa ) this protest will affect the v-t-a lines today. alum rock avenue and santa clara street will be closed from king road to autumn street. bus service will be re-routed on alum rock avenue and santa clara street to mckee road and east julian street, between king road and autumn street. 15 lines will be affected, those are on your screen. highway 17 and monterey- salinas transit 86 will be

( terisa ) there are several other may day events in the bay area planned today. in san francisco, people will protest outside of the - ice office on sansome street at 8am. a rally is planned at 11 a-m in justin herman plaza, followed by a march to civic center and in oakland, a rally will start at 3 p-m at fruitvale plaza. with a march at 4 p-m heading to san antonio park. a few high schools have noted students will be walking out of class today and marching down international boulevard. for a full list of events, go on kron four dot com. ( terisa ) in the east bay... a toddler has died after he was run over by a car in the parking lot of a shopping center. this happened saturday afternoon at the shopping center off decoto and alvarado-niles in union city. police say the 23-month-old boy walked away from his parents who were shopping in a store and ran into the parking lot. a

car hit the boy and the child was killed. police say the driver is cooperating with the investigation. ( terisa ) a half moon bay man is in jail on suspcision of a deadly hit-and-run. c-h-p says the man continued driving with parts of a bike stuck to his car. kron four's spencer blake tells us more about the trail of debris that led officers to the suspect. i'm standing next to highway one near an unincorporated part of half moon bay.over here, near furtado laneis where emergency responders arrived saturday morning to find a man lying on the shoulder of this very narrow stretch of roadwho had been hit by a car.(vo)according to c-h-p officer art montiel, there was a trail of debris around the man that suggested he may have been riding a bike when the car hit him.there's still an orange reflector lying in the dirteventually evidence brought them to a nearby home, where they arrested angel gongora.they say the victim's bike was

still lodged under gongora's s-u-v as he drove away from the scene of the crime.another cyclist i talked to about it was taken aback.(sot)"i don't even have the words to say. i can't believe that really happened, that somebody would be so callous as to just take off with it, not stop at all." (vo)the victim in this case died at the scene.the northbound lane was closed for about three hours, but c-h-p says there wasn't much traffic at the time.it's a two lane highway at this point, and the area that was taped off is áparticularly narrow at the guardrail."it's good, but it's really hard to pass by up there because it's really dangerous."i've seen several cyclists passing by this areawho use an alternate trail that runs parallel and below the highway.(looklive) meanwhile, gongora is in the san mateo county jail.in half moon bay, spencer blake, kron four news. birthday party when the shooting began sunday. police shot and killed the suspect after they say the he pointed the weapon at officers. authorities believe the gunman and at least one of the party goers lived at the apartment complex. ( terisa ) police have arrested a man accused of killing another man next to the santa cruz beach boardwalk. kevin callahan is being charged with murder. he was caught on main beach yesterday. police say the 58-year-old was involved in a fight with the victim near the beach volleyball courts. officers say the victim and the suspect were both homeless... and had been camping on the beach. ( terisa ) in monterey... four gray whale calves have been killed in the past week. according to marine

biologists, the calves have been killed by orcas or killer whales. the biologists say a family of nine orcas are responsible. orcas commonly feed on gray whale calves. the calves and their mothers are migrating to mexico a few weeks late this year and killer whales are taking advantage. ( terisa ) meanwhile, dozens of dead sharks are washing up ashore all around the bay area. kron four's hermela aregawi spoke with the experts about why this is happening. bay area scientists are calling it the largest mass die off in the last decade. just saturday alone - a half a dozen dead sharks were discovered on alameda beach. corinna chan/alameda resident: i have heard about it from a few of the neighbors here. i just live right around the corner here and i do walk around here everyday. it is unfortunate though that when we end up finding the sharks on the beach there is really nothing we can do at that point for them.linda avery/alameda resident:that is amazing. that is scary and creepy to think they're washing up all around. there is definitely a smell and i wonder if it's partly dead

government shutdown by reaching an agreement on a one trillion-dollar spending bill. this would fund the day- to-day operations of virtually every federal agency until october first. if approved by the house and senate, the spending bill would be the first major piece of bi- partisan legislation to advance during president trump's presidency. the measure rejects white house proposals to cut popular programs such as funding medical research and community development grants. it adds 15- billion dollars to strengthen the military. it does ánotá include money for a wall along the u-s mexico border. ( terisa ) we now know the name of the man found dead on the oakland waterfront. police have identified the victim as kevin mulholland of

alameda. the 48-year-old's body was found friday morning under a pier near the embarcadero. it is unclear how mulholland died. an autopsy is scheduled for later today. ( terisa ) delta airlines has finished it's investgation after one of their pilot's stepped in to stop a fight between two women and ended up punching one of the women. it happened in atlanta on april 21. the two women suddenly started to fight. the pilot steps in to separate the women by hitting one of them. according to t-m-z, a delta employee escorted the women off the plane and police were called. neither woman plan to press charges. the pilot has returned to work. ( terisa ) joe biden says he will not be not making a presidential bid in 20-20. the former vice president made the announcement yesterday during a speech at an annual new hampshire democratic party dinner. biden's post- election visits to the state fueled speculation aboutpotential presidential ambitions in the days leading

the story. marisa woytek, alleged victim: "as someone who has spoken out and has received backlash on social media, i can understand their worry."camp pendleton marine marisa woytek stepped off the base this afternoon to update reporters on the military scandal involving a defunct webpage called marines united and the unauthorized photo sharing of female marines. woytek is a victim who was joined by another victim... who is now retired as well as their lawyer gloria allred.erika butner, alleged victim: "my end goal is to insure that revenge porn and sharing a photo without someone's consent, without their permission is a federal law. that's my top goal."erika butner and marisa woytek say they know hundreds of women who have seen their pictures posted on the site and they want to know why the perpetrators aren't being held accountable.gloria allred sent a letter in march to the chairman of the armed services committee asking that her clients and other victims be allowed to testify about the

scandal. the response she got was that sexual assault and harassment victims whose cases have been decided on by a judge would make up the panel.. gloria allred, attorney for victims: why have they specifically ruled out other survivors? and that would be most of them by the way - because most of them have never gotten to the point where there has been an adjudication of their report." the marine corps and navy have now banned service members from distributing nude photos without the consent of the person in the picture. gloria allred calls the new regulation weak saying it have should have stronger language if the intent is to hold the guilty ones accountable. ( mark ) one of the events in the bay area includes a protest in front of the ice building in san francisco. kron 4's will tran is live there this morning with the details. will. ( mark ) more than half of the businesses on willow street are expected to close. at 1-pm today there is a may day rally at the mexican heritage plaza in san jose and the group will then march to arena greens. organizers expect as many as 50-thousand people to show up. ( mark ) this protest will affect the v-t-a lines today. alum rock avenue and santa clara street will be closed from king road to autumn

overnight police revealed that several of the victims are still in critical condition. investigators say a large group of people were celebrating a birthday party when the shooting began. another person was injured when they broke an arm while trying to run away from the shooting. the gunman was shot and killed by police after he pointed his gun at the officers. ( mark ) in the east bay... a toddler has died after he was run over by a car in the parking lot of a shopping center. this happened saturday afternoon at the shopping center off decoto and alvarado-niles roads in union city. police say the 23-month-old boy walked away from his parents who were shopping in a store and ran into the parking lot. a car hit the boy and the child was killed. police say the driver is cooperating with the investigation. after a hit-and-run near half moon bay. police later arrested the suspected driver after finding parts of the victim's bicylce under his car. it happened as the victim was riding his bicyle on highway one saturday morning. debris on the road led investigators to a nearby home where they arrested angel gongora. police say the victim's bike was still lodged under gongora's s-u-v as he drove away from the crime scene. cyclists we spoke to say they are saddened to hear what happened: ( darya ) police have not yet released the name of the victim. gongora is being held on several charges at the san mateo county jail. ( mark ) police have arrested a man accused of killing another man next to the santa cruz beach boardwalk. kevin callahan is being charged with murder. he was caught on main beach yesterday. police say the 58-year-old was involved in a

( darya ) all of the rain we had over the winter is causing problems for marine life. dozens of dead sharks are washing up ashore around the bay area. just saturday alone -- over a dozen dead sharks were discovered on alameda beach. dead sharks are also washing up in redwood city and along the peninsula. experts believe toxins from storm water run-off is what's killing them.

and problems i feel like we need the rain, but it really highlights how dirty and polluted things are>( darya ) experts say it is not just sharks that are dying in large numbers. they are also finding infected sting rays, halibut and other marine and fresh water fish. researchers at s-f state are studying some of these dead animals to see if anything can be done to prevent more marine life from dying. ( mark ) as the warm weather melts the snow in the sierra nevada. forecasters expect at least one california river to hit flood stages this week. the merced river in yosemite national park is expected to rise about a foot over its banks on wednesday. the wet winter brought a record amount of snow to the sierra. the national weather service says northern california usually doesn't see temperatures this high until early july. forcasters warn that rivers may run extra fast this year. ( darya ) happening now... dozens of firefighters are battling a fast-moving wildfire fire that is threatening homes in riverside county. the fire was first

reported yesterday afternoon and has spread to more than 13- hundred acres and is only 25 percent contained. dry brush and strong winds are helping speed up the wildfire. about 40 homes are threatened this morning. ( mark ) a detroit police officer has been shot in the back of the head. police say the officer and his partner were responding to a domestic violence call when somebody started shooting. the officers returned fire, killing the gunman. the injured officer is expected to recover. ( darya ) police in southern california are trying to figure out if two people arrested for a carjacking are connected to a shooting rampage. police say a man and woman matching the description of the shooters were taken into custody saturday night outside a motel in whittier. authorities believe these are the same two people who opened fire while driving around in a car. one person was killed and three others injured in the rampage. ( darya ) one person is killed in a crash on a busy ohio freeway and the crash is caught on camera. this

happened in dayton, ohio. first an accident then the explosion. officers believe the crash was caused by a wrong way driver. the driver of the car died while the truck driver has minor injuries. overnight... the death toll continues to rise after deadly storms sweep across the south and midwest. at least 14 people have been killed by tornadoes and flooding. you're looking at video of the damage in texas... and severe flooding in oklahoma... and , arkansas. tennessee. that brings the death toll now to at least 14. and take a look at this video. this is just one of the tornadoes that touched down in texas. this video was captured by a group of storm chasers. you can see just how wide that tornado is. and here is the damage left behind... at least three tornadoes touched down in texas just 60 miles apart. 50 other people were injured. the governors of arkansas and missouri have declared states of emergency after severe flooding in those states. and this morning for the first time we are hearing form people as they return home to assess the damage. . ( terisa ) and we are learning that several more children are among the dead. in arkansas... an 18-month old girl and a 4-year-old boy were in a car that was swept off a bridge by flood waters. a

( darya ) police are searching for a man they say exposed himself to a group of people on the stanford campus. officers say the man was outside of a car when he exposed himself yesterday morning. three different people reported the incident to police. witnesses say he drove off in a newer white sedan. there is no clear descrption of the man this morning. ( mark ) we now know the name of the man found dead on the oakland waterfront. police have identified the victim as kevin mulholland of alameda. the 48-year-old's body was found friday morning under a pier near the embarcadero. it is unclear how mulholland died. an autopsy is scheduled for later today. ( mark ) a u-s service member is killed in the fight against isis. army first lieutenant weston lee died in an explosion on saturday. the 25-year-old joined the army in march of 2015. he is the second member of the u-s military to be killed since the start of the operation to take the city of

( darya ) breaking news from overnight... at least 8 people are shot at a birthday party in san diego. kron 4's terisa estacio is following the latest from the breaking news desk. terisa. ( terisa ) at least one person is dead. and seven others are injured. a gunman opened fire at the swimming pool inside that apartment complex. this is video from the scene. overnight police revealed that several of the victims are still in critical condition. investigators say a large group of people were celebrating a birthday party when the shooting began. another person was injured when they broke an arm while trying to run away from the shooting. the gunman was shot and killed by police after he pointed his gun at the officers.

( mark ) more than half of the businesses on willow street are expected to close. at 1-pm today there is a may day rally at the mexican heritage plaza in san jose and the group will then march to arena greens. organizers expect as many as 50-thousand people to show up. ( mark ) this protest will

23-month-old boy walked away from his parents who were shopping in a store and ran into the parking lot. a car hit the boy and the child was killed. police say the driver is cooperating with the investigation. ( darya ) one man is dead after a hit-and-run near half moon bay. police later arrested the suspected driver after finding parts of the victim's bicylce under his car. it happened as the victim was riding his bicyle on highway one saturday morning. debris on the road led investigators to a nearby home where they arrested angel gongora. police say the victim's bike was still lodged under gongora's s-u-v as he drove away from the crime scene. cyclists we spoke to say they are saddened to hear what happened: ( darya ) police

( mark ) police have arrested a man accused of killing another man next to the santa cruz beach boardwalk. kevin callahan is being charged with murder. he was caught on main beach yesterday. police say the 58-year-old was involved in a fight with the victim near the beach volleyball courts. officers say the victim and the suspect were both homeless... and had been camping on the beach. ( mark ) a woman is recovering this morning after getting bit by a shark at a popular southern california beach. it happened saturday near san onofre state beach along the camp pendleton marine base in san diego county. the woman was walking through the water when she was bitten along her upper thigh. the beach was closed for the rest of the weekend. the woman was airlifted to the hospital, and her condition is unknown this morning. ( darya ) congress has avoided a government shutdown by reaching an agreement on a

one trillion-dollar spending bill. this would fund the day-to-day operations of virtually every federal agency until october first. if approved by the house and senate, the spending bill would be the first major piece of bi-partisan legislation to advance during president trump's presidency. the measure rejects white house proposals to cut popular programs such as funding medical research and community development grants. it adds 15- billion dollars to strengthen the military. it does ánotá include money for a wall along the u-s mexico border. ( darya ) get ready to pay more at the pump.. governor brown has signed california's new 12 cent a gallon tax hike into law. it's aimed at repairing roads and bridges throughout the state. we'll see the spike in gas prices in november. but californians will have to wait more than a year before crews begin repaving roads. part of the law will also make it more expensive to register your car. that price hike goes into effect in january.

( mark ) happening now... dozens of firefighters are battling a fast-moving wildfire fire that is threatening homes in riverside county. the fire was first reported yesterday afternoon and has spread to more than 13- hundred acres and is only 25 percent contained. dry brush and strong winds are helping speed up the wildfire. about 40 homes are threatened this morning. ( mark ) a detroit police officer has been shot in the back of the head. police say the officer and his partner were responding to a domestic violence call when a man started shooting. the officers returned fire, killing the gunman. the injured officer is expected to recover. ( terisa @ flash ) the shooting happened last night at around 10:45. take a look at this map of where it happened. the man was shot at the home depot store on alameda avenue off of high street. police say one man died in the shooting. there is no word on any arrests this morning. we will continue to update you on this story as details come in. back to you. bullied by her classmates. ann marie shelvin and tracy gallow are now facing criminal charges. police say the teachers told students they would fail them if they didn't fight an 11-year-old girl. deputies say they have surveillance video showing the 11-year-old girl being abused by the students. ( darya ) the mother of the child says the bullying has gone on for more than a year. ( mark ) all of the rain we had over the winter is causing problems for marine life. dozens of dead sharks are washing up ashore around the bay area. just saturday alone -- over a dozen dead sharks were discovered on alameda beach. dead sharks are also washing up in redwood city and along the peninsula. experts believe toxins from storm water run-off is what's

( mark ) experts say it is not just sharks that are dying in large numbers. they are also finding infected sting rays, halibut and other marine and fresh water fish. researchers at s-f state are studying some of these dead animals to see if anything can be done to prevent more marine life from dying. ( mark ) as the warm weather melts the snow in the sierra nevada. forecasters expect at least one california river to hit flood stages this week. the merced river in yosemite national park is expected to rise about a foot over its banks on wednesday. the wet winter brought a record amount of snow to the sierra. the national weather service says northern california usually doesn't see temperatures this high until early july. forcasters warn that rivers may run extra fast this year.

( darya ) one person is killed in a crash on a busy ohio freeway and the crash is caught on camera. this happened in dayton, ohio. first an accident then the explosion. officers believe the crash was caused by a wrong way driver. the driver of the car died while the truck driver has minor injuries. ( darya ) police in southern california are trying to figure out if two people arrested for a carjacking are connected to a shooting rampage. police say a man and woman matching the description of the shooters were taken into custody saturday night outside a motel in whittier. authorities believe these are the same two people who opened fire while driving around in a car. one person was killed and three others injured in the rampage. ( mark ) conservative commentator ann coulter is bashing california just days after her u-c berkeley speech is canceled. she spoke at a republican party fundraiser in modesto on friday. coulter's speech at u-c

overnight... the death toll continues to rise after deadly storms sweep across the south and midwest. at least 14 people have been killed by tornadoes and flooding. you're looking at video of the damage in texas... and severe flooding in oklahoma... and , arkansas. ( mark ) and this morning record flooding is expected across several other states in the south and midwest. kron 4's terisa estacio is following the latest from the breaking news desk. terisa? ( terisa ) we are learning that the latest victm from these storms is a 2-year-old who was killed when a metal soccer goal was blown over in tennessee. that brings the death toll now to at least 14. take a look at this new video just into the kron four news room... a water rescue team in arkansas pulled out a pregnant woman and a man from the rushing waters and to safety. authorities say the couple's truck washed off the road. they eventually abandoned it and clung to tree branches to keep from being swept away. and take a

look at this. this is just one of the tornadoes that touched down in texas. this video was captured by a group of storm chasers. you can see just how wide that tornado is. and here is the damage left behind... at least three tornadoes touched down in texas just 60 miles apart. 50 other people were injured. the governors of arkansas and missouri have declared states of emergency after severe flooding in those states. and this morning for the first time we are hearing form people as they return home to assess the damage. . . ( terisa ) and we are learning that several more children are among the dead. in arkansas... an 18-month old girl and a 4-year-old boy were in a car that was swept off a bridge by flood waters. a

( darya ) police are searching for a man they say exposed himself to a group of people on the stanford campus. officers say the man was outside of a car when he exposed himself yesterday morning. three different people reported the incident to police. witnesses say he drove off in a newer white sedan. there is no clear descrption of the man this morning. ( mark ) we now know the name of the man found dead on the oakland waterfront. police have identified the victim as kevin mulholland of alameda. the 48-year-old's body was found friday morning under a pier near the embarcadero. it is unclear how mulholland died. an autopsy is scheduled for later today. ( mark ) a u-s service member is killed in the fight against isis in iraq. army first lieutenant weston lee died in an explosion on saturday. the 25-year-old joined the army in march of 2015. he is the second member of the u-s military to be killed since the start of the operation to take the city

( darya ) delta airlines has finished it's investgation after one of their pilot's stepped in to stop a fight between two women and ended up punching one of the women. it happened in atlanta on april 21. the two women suddenly started to fight. the pilot steps in to separate the women by hitting one of them. according to t-m-z, a delta employee escorted the women off the plane and police were called. neither woman plan to press charges. the pilot has returned to work. ( darya ) the f-b-i is now part of an investigation into how a hacker got a hold of season five of netflix show "orange is the new black." the hacker, who goes by the name " the dark overlord" had demanded that netflix pay a ransom in exchange for not leaking the episodes prematurely online. but

dozens of men stepped into some pumps and walked for a good cause. the annual 'walk a mile in her shoes' event was held at a university in alaska over the weekend. many men participated, raising money and awareness of sexual violence. organizers said they hope to raise at least 15-thousand dollars from the fundraiser. the money goes toward helping groups like 'standing together against rape.'
