no major hot spots. bay bridge wb 80 is min from the maze to sf. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( james ) happening today... it has been five long years and now, the trial of the man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar wil soon be in the hands of the jury. and deliberations could begin by the end of this week. the defense is expected to wrap up its closing arguments today. and the biggest question now being asked "is antolin garcia-torres the wrong man on trial in the murder of sierra lamar?" lead defense attorney al lopez began his closing arguments by asserting to the jury there is little evidence garcia- torres killed sierra lamar. lopez attacked the evidence saying investigators failed to look into reports of another car in the area. suggesting they arrested the wrong suspect. legal analyst steven clark calls this a brilliant strategy.

( james ) another big story we are following this morning... police open fire on one of san francisco's busiest streets after finding a man stabbing another man. the shooting shutdown part of market street for most of the day. kron4's charles clifford has the details. natsaccording to the san francisco police department, just before 1130 wednesday morning two uniformed officers walking in the 900 block of market street witnessed a white adult male stabbing a philipino or asian male. the attack may have happened near or possibly inside a subway sandwich shop. the officers immediately intervened. sot

intervening, at least one office discharged a firearm. the person who was stabbed was transported for treatment. despite the initiation of life saving efforts, the second suspect is now deceased. >this is cell phone video of the scene captured by a fedex truck driver who was parked along market street. the driver says he saw people running.sotas with any officer involved shooting in san francisco, multiple investigation have been launched.sfpd homicide and internal affairs division, the department of police accountability, san francisco district attorney's

independent investigation bureau and the medical examiner's office are each looking into this shooting. ( james ) we are also learning more about a deadly police shooting in san jose. it happened wednesday night outside a home on mount frazier drive. officers responded to a call about a family disturbance. police say a 28-year-old man came out of the garage and charged at one of the officer's with kitchen knives in both hands. that's when the officer fired his gun. the man was rushed to the hospital and into surgery where he later died. the officer involved in the shooting is a 15- year veteran. he has been placed on paid administrative leave. ( james ) in san lorenzo... a teenage boy was killed in an early morning train accident. it happened around eight yesterday morning on the train tracks at grant and railroad avenues. the alameda county fire department

says the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. union pacific, which manages the tracks says a bike was found next to the boy. but it is unclear if he was on the tracks when he was hit, or if he was walking. officials say the victim attended nearby kipp king collegiate high school. ( james ) another big story we are following this morning... streets in san francisco's castro district have reopened after a report of a suspicious package. this is video of the scene last night. the incident was first reported by the san francisco department of emergency management just before 10. officials had asked people near castro and market streets,18th and castro streets and diamond street to shelter in place or avoid the area altogether. police cleared the scene just after 11. further details about the incident were not immediately available. ( james ) happening tonight... the golden state warriors will take on the utah jazz for game two of their best of 7 series. the dubs were at practice

after going up 1-0 in their series against the jazz. and missing from practice was star guard steph curry. he did not participate at all. staying on the sideline for the entire practice. curry tweaked his left ankle making a lay up late in game one. he came out of the game and received treatment on the bench. he sat out the 4th quarter as a precautuion. at one point he went to the scorer's table to check in. but was called back. however, active head coach mike brown says curry is fine and will be ready to go in tonights night's game 2. "naw, no concern. he just, he's a guy that constantly gets maintenance, which he should. not only him, most of our guys do a good job with that and, umm, so that's all. that's all it was last night. he's definitely good to go tomorrow." ( james ) folks in richmond saw flares coming from the chevron refinery. we contacted the company and they say there is no need to shelter in place. they say the flares are a highly regulated safety device monitored by the air district in order to relieve pressure. real-time air quality data is available on the air district's website if you want to take a look. ( james ) the man who police say killed his wife and held police on an hours long standoff in the east bay has been charged with murder. gregory prokop- owicz appeared in court yesterday. the 38-year- old is accused of

killing his wife. 47-year-old roselyn policarpio last thursday afternoon on first avenue in walnut creek. after a 19-hour standoff prokop-owicz was arrested friday in martinez. however police say he did not surrender until the swat team fired three rounds of tear gas into the car he was in. a go-fund me page has been set up for the victim by her son. the family says the money raised will be used for funeral expenses. ( james ) an east bay bart station's parking lot is getting an overhaul that could take months to complete. a number of parking spaces will be closed off. and riders will have to find alternate parking kron 4's alecia reid has the details. "i didn't know this was happening"by the end of may, this parking lot will look drastically different. the lafayette station site improvement project aims to lower congestion and optimize traffic."they gotta do what they gotta do right?"the project area will be between deer hill road, happy vally road, and happy valley creek. ( james ) happening now: google is warning people to beware about a widespread email scam going around. and the attack looks like it's coming from a trusted source. here's how it works. you get an email from a contact who asks you to open a google document. if you click, it takes you to a page to open the "google docs" app with your google account. this grants access to your email account and your contacts. a cybersecurity expert says anyone who clicked on the link should check their google app permissions and remove the one called "google docs." google did issue a statement where they said the phishing scheme affected less than point-one percent of gmail users and that they "were able to stop the campaign within an hour. it's unclear how widespread the attack is and who is behind it. ( james ) a major development in the possible federal case against two louisiana police officers in

the july killing of alton sterling... authorities are now saying there's not enough evidence to prove that either officer violated the federal criminal civil rights law. meaning no federal charges against those officers. alton sterling was selling c-d's outside a store in baton rouge last year when police responded to a report of a man with a gun... two officers wrestled with sterling. and after someone yelled that he had a gun. sterling was shot several times - and killed. police say that a loaded gun was later found in his pocket.

( james ) happening today. . . republican leaders are expected to vote on the new healthcare bill which was on the brink of collapse. they would like to have it on the congressional floor by today but only if they believe it will pass. new updates to the bill try to target republican unease about removing price protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions. the deal adds $8 billion to an existing $130 billion fund. some key republicans who were firmly against the latest gop repeal and replance plan are now firmly on board after changes were negotiated with the white house.

( james ) another big story we are following this morning... fbi director james comey testified before a senate committee that it would have been "catastrophic" to keep congress in the dark about developments in the hillary clinton email investigation. those developments emerged close to election day... with critics saying it clinton the election. comey went further to say that the idea of his decision to reveal the email probe impacting the election made him "nauseous." but he still insists he has no regrets. comey argues that at the time he was also battling for the credibility of the fbi. (will) at about 9 last night san jose police officers responded to the 1000 block of laura ville lane on a report of person shot. arriving officers found 2 deceased victims at the residence. an officer involved shooting occurred and the adult male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene as well. no other injuries were reported and no other suspects are outstanding. the officer will be placed on routine paid administrative leave.

this will mean for response times. nats of sirensfor just a few more months, fire trucks will head out to calls from station number 94 nat sot the reason we are in this situation we are in today is lack of retentionfire chief bill helmick tells mein the past five years the station in knightsen has shut down 2 other times.temporary solutions reopened it. but those are not sustainable anymore.the east contra costa fire protection district does not have enough funding to afford it.plus, high turnover, no job security and low pay has scared fire fighters away. sot the pay and benefits are about 30-40% less here than other stations in the greater bay areajustine waldmanstandup all of the equipment here will go to other stations. and fire fighters will get jobs at other stations either in brentwood, oakley or discovery bay.nat call for serviceto serve the amount of people here 9 fire stations are

are resting easty after two suspects were caught stealing from their mailbox. kron 4's stanely roberts shows us on this edition of people behaving badly. this is a community mailbox in pleasant hill; on the box is a note which instructs people to pick up their mail from the concord post office . i have shown you similar notes before all around the bay area . this mailbox on brandy wine lane was according to a source has been hit close to a half a dozen times in just six months except on day everything changed we get a report from a resident on brandywine lane

reporting that their mail box had been broken into and that there was a key stuck in the lock the key wasn't a key at all in fact this is what a post office mailbox key looks like . what was found appeared to be half ofa pair scissors that gets filed down that was filed down custom to fit these types of key locks this is when thing got better it was determined that there was some video of a neighboring resident from some good quality cameras the good quality camera clearly showed the licence plate and something elsethe video captured both suspects sitting in the cab of the pickup truck two woman and apparenty another officer reconized one of the ladies from a prior mail thieft case and the rest was history well not really history . they were both arrested and they were both charged y the contra costa county district attorneys office with mail theft and possion of stolen property.one was also charged with posseing burglary tools and violating probation . i tried to get their mug shots but that didn't happen at least not yetthe intresting

while the pacifica police department and north county fire authority worked to rescue a person who had fallen down a cliff near esplanade avenue... police captain joe spanheimer says...joe spanheimer/pacifica police dept.- "a drone got in our way." it was....steve wagstaff/san mateo county district attorney- "in between the helicopter and the person on the bottom there - very dangerous." once the helicopter crew realized that a drone was also flying up above... captain spanheimer says the crew had to suspend the rescue operation to avoid a mid-air collision.joe spanheimer/paci fica police dept.- "ultimately, the helicopter that was involved in the operation was not used." and, fire fighters had to slide down and pull the distressed person up from the

( mark ) breaking news from overnight... san jose police shoot and kill a man who is believed to be the suspect in a double homicide. ( darya ) will tran is live in san jose this morning with the overnight details. will. ( will ) three people died in shootings wednesday night in san jose, one of which involved a police officer, police said. at 9:01 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of laura ville lane on a report of a person shot. according to police, when officers arrived at the residence they located two deceased victims. then an officer-involved shooting occurred and an adult male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. no other injuries were reported and there are no other outstanding suspects. the officer involved in the shooting will be placed on

( mark ) we are learning new information about the teen who was hit and killed by a train in san lorenzo. terrence liu (lou) was a junior at kipp king collegiate high school. he was hit by a "union pacific" train near grant and railroad avenues yesterday morning. police say he was either walking or riding his bike across a bridge when he was hit. people living in the area say it can be hard to hear the train coming when you are on the bridge.

( rebecca ) prince philip, the husband of queen elizabeth the second, will no longer carry out public engagements starting this fall, buckingham palace has announced. prince philip is 95 years old. the prince, who has been at the queen's side for her 65- year reign, will stop accepting invitations for public engagements. the queen, who is 91, has also gradually scaled back her public appearances in recent years. the palace says she will continue to carry out her duties. in the past, prince philip has suffered heart problems but has maintained a vigorous public schedule. prime minister theresa may has sent her well wishes to prince philip following the announcement.

( darya ) federal prosecutors have announced there will be no charges against the louisiana police officers who shot and killed a man last july.

investigators say there is not enough evidence to prove that either officer violated the federal criminal civil rights law when they shot and killed alton sterling. sterling was selling c-d's outside a store in baton rouge last year when police responded to a report of a man with a gun... two officers wrestled with sterling... and after someone yelled that he had a gun... sterling was shot several times. police say that a loaded gun was later found in sterling's pocket.

p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of laura ville lane on a report of a person shot. according to police, when officers arrived at the residence they located two deceased victims. then an officer-involved shooting occurred and an adult male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. no other injuries were reported and there are no other outstanding suspects. the officer involved in the shooting will be placed on routine paid administrative leave, police said. the santa clara county district attorney's office and the san jose police department's homicide unit are conducting a joint criminal investigation. the case is being monitored by the san jose police department's internal affairs unit, the city attorney's office, and the office of the independent auditor, police said.

officers responded to a call about a family disturbance. police say a 28-year-old man came out of the garage and charged at one of the officer's with kitchen knives in both hands. an officer fired his gun. the man was shot and later died. the officer involved in tuesday's shooting is a 15- year veteran. ( mark ) police in san francisco are also investigating a police shooting this morning. a san francisco police officer shot and killed a man who stabbing another man. this is cell phone video of the scene captured by a fedex driver parked outside a subway restaurant. it happened yesterday morning just before 11:30 near fifth and market streets. police say a man stabbed another man inside the restaurant. police intervened and an officer shot and killed the attacker. police chief william scott was asked if this shooting could have been avoided.

( mark ) two teenage boys are recovering this morning after being hit by a driver who took off. the 15-year- old boys were crossing the street near the intersection of cooley avenue and runnymede street in east palo alto. (ááátriggerááá) police say the teens were hit by a car that did not stop at a stop sign. after hitting the boys, the driver did not stop and help them. we're told both teenagers have serious injuries. prosecutors have announced there will be no charges against the louisiana police officers who shot and killed a man last july. investigators say there is not enough evidence to prove that either officer violated the federal criminal civil rights law when they shot and killed alton sterling. sterling was selling c-d's outside a store in baton rouge last year when police responded to a report of a man with a gun... two officers wrestled with sterling... and after someone yelled that he had a gun... sterling was shot several times. police say that a loaded gun was later found in sterling's pocket.

breaking news out of san jose. a man who is the suspect in a double homicide has been killed by police. ( darya ) will tran is live in san jose this morning with the overnight details. will. ( will ) three people died in shootings wednesday night in san jose, one of which involved a police officer, police said. at 9:01 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of laura ville lane on a report of a person shot. according to police, when officers arrived at the residence they located two deceased victims. then an officer-involved shooting occurred and an adult male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. no other injuries were reported and there are no

( rebecca @ land ) it happened late in the afternoon near the corner of montecito boulevard and monte vista drive. these are pictures of yesterday's crash. the driver is 26-year-old jeffrey pearson. pearson hit several cars, and you can see those cars were severely damaged. he was arrested on tuesday after crashing his car into a pet store. pearson told police he had smoked marijuana before and

was also drinking. in yesterday's incident, pearson was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. ( mark ) bart riders are being forced to find alternate parking at one station in the east bay. a parking lot is being renovated and it could take months to complete. it's happening at the lafayette station. bart says the site improvement project will lower congestion and create a better flow of traffic. construction is set to begin at the end of the month, and that will create a huge shortage of parking spots. people who use the lafayette station say it's already tough finding a place to park. ( mark ) bart suggests using bus routes 6 and 25 to get to the station. when construction is complete, access to the station will be a lot easier

( darya ) the morgan hill police department is looking for the driver involved in a hit-and-run. police say this man was involved in a hit-and-run incident yesterday afternoon near tilton and dougherty in the north end of morgan hill. one person was injured. the man was last seen driving this 2000's chevrolet silverado truck. ( darya ) people living in the sunset district of san francisco are divided over bringing a medical marjuana dispensary into their neighborhood. the effort to open the dispensary is being led by former oakland mayor jean quan and her husband. people say they are worried a marijuana dispensary will have a negative influence on their children. supporters of the project say the opposition is based on mis-information. they also say it will help people in the neighborhood especially senior citizens who use medical marijuna.

( mark ) three people are dead and dozens are injured after a car crashed through an auto auction in boston it happened yesterday morning when over one thousand people were inside the auction. a car for sale accelerated through the building and hit dozens of people. one witness says the car was going 25 to 30 miles per hour. police say the driver was in his 70's and was working at the auction. investigators are calling this a "tragic accident." ( darya ) google is warning people to beware of a widespread email scam going around. and the attack looks like it's coming from a trusted source. here's how it works. you get an email from a contact who asks you to open a google document. if you click it... it takes you to a page to open the "google docs" app with your google account. this grants

( darya ) take a look at this... a woman uses a vacuum cleaner as a weapon during a road rage incident in georgia. the incident happened last week, but video of the attack has just been released. it happened when a man walked up to a woman's car banging on her window and complained about her driving. that's when the woman got out of her car and took a red vacuum cleaner from her trunk. she then started beating the man. two workers intervened and called police. the woman was later arrested and charged with assault and battery. ( mark ) f-b-i director james comey is standing by his decision to tell congress about developments in the hillary clinton email investigation just days before the presidential election.
