morning on the kron four morning news... we're following breaking news as more car fires erupt in the east bay overnight. we'll tell you where. (james) and children are sent home from a camp in the south bay after something made them sick. we'll explain what happened. (james) and police on the peninsula are looking for this man after he exposed himself to hikers on a popular trail. we'll tell you where it happened. the kron 4 morning news starts right now. (james) breaking news this morning... two more car fires are reported in the east bay overnight... bringing the total to seven car fires this week. this comes as investigators say they believe it's the work of a serial arsonist. kron four's hermela aregawi has the details. the fire marshall tells me there have been more than 10 vehicles set on fire between those this week. and dating back to 2016. the fires have some things in common leading them to believe the same person or people are responsible for all of them. a serial car arsonist is still on the loose in contra costa county.five cars have been set on fire this week alone.and police believe the same suspect may be responsible for several othersrobert marshall/contra costa fire marshall: we are not being specific about those commonalities and there's some information that we need to withold for the integrity of the investigation. but these fires all have somethings in common and because of that we believe either the same person or same group of people are responsible for the fires.two

cars were set on fire this morning in brentwood.it is unusual. it is. and its a quiet community and its relatively save but you can't be too safe anywhere. it's shocking its terible.two other happened yesterday in walnut creek and lafayette.while the fifth happened earlier this week in martinez.yeah its kind of scary to know that someone could come by early in the morning or something like that and set my car on firefire officials says all the fires happened overnight.and are asking the public to keep some tips in mind to protect themselves.robert marshall/contra costa fire marshall: be aware of the surroundings. be aware of the things that are going on around them. and then you know if they see a person who doesn't belong in the area if they see a suspicious car, we asked them to go ahead and call 911.make sure that you don't have a bunch of combustilbles that are stacked up next to the house. make sure you get that stuff cleaned up.fortunately no one has been injured in any of the incidents.officials ask that you call the arson tip line if you see something suspicious. that's 1866-50 arson.reporting in pleasant hill hermela aregawi, kron 4 news.

(james) (james) and we will have much more on the car fires just reported overnight. kron four's averi harper will have a live report in the next hour. (james) in the south bay... several parents are called to pick up their kids from camp campbell... because of some type of illness. the camp is in boulder creek in santa cruz county, but it's part of the y-m-c-a silicon valley. parents tell kron four that many of the adults running the camp started felling sick. they also say the camp has been closed for health inspections. some of the kids at the camp were from linda vista elementary school in san jose. one parent says they took their kid to the hospital as a precaution. we have reached out to the camp -- but have not heard

back yet. we will bring you an update as soon we get more information. (james) police in palo alto are looking for a man who exposed himself to a woman hiking with her toddler. it happened around 3-30 wednesday afternoon on a hiking trail at the palo alto baylands. the woman says she was walking on the trail along the northern boundry of the palo alto airport when she heard something in the bushes. when she turned to look she saw the man naked in the bushes. this is a sketch of the suspect. the victim says he is about six feet tall with a thin build... and had his hair pulled back in a bun. she also says he has tattoos on his arms and legs and was wearing a black zip-up jacket and dark colored shorts.. .. (james) two men in san francisco are facing child pornography charges... and one of them is a doctor. these are the suspects. billy lockhart and benjamin martin. they are roommates. police say lockhart -- who is a psychiatrist for u-c-s-f -- used the hospital internet to upload images. kron4's charles clifford has more.

the san francisco police department says that 36-year-old dr. billy lockhart and his roommate, 33 year old benjamin martin were arrested at their home in san francisco earlier this week. both men are facing charges for possession of child pornography and possession of over 600 files of child pornography. lockhart is also accused of distributing child porn. the police department says that back in march the internet crimes against children unit began investigating dr lockhart, who works as psychiatrist at ucsf. they now believe that he was uploading and trading child porn on the internet using the wifi connection at ucsf. investigators say that when they searched lockhart and martin's home they found hundreds of child pornography videos and images on multiple devices. they also found evidence that lockhart was viewing child porn.in a statement, ucsf said on thursday that they were aware of dr. lockhart's arrest and the charges he is facing. "we take these allegations extremely seriously. ucsf has placed dr. lockhart on investigatory leave from the department of psychiatry's residency training program, suspending all clinical activity and access to all ucsf information systems."the

hospital also says the ucsf police are cooperating with sfpd. (james) police are still looking for a gunman who shot two men on highway 101 in healdsburg. it happened yesterday afternoon just past the dry creek road exit. the two victims were at a food truck when they were involved with some sort of altercation with another man. then two miles down the road... a car drove up next to the men and opened fire.

have evidence stretching for quite a ways so we shut it down until we were sure we processed the scene for every piece of evidence we can. "> (james) both victims are in serious condition... but are expected to be okay. police don't have a description of the gunman and they are still looking for him this morning. (james) we now know the warriors will take on the san antonio spurs in the western conference finals. they beat the houston rockets last night. the spurs and the warriors finished the regular season with the top two records in the league. the warriors will open the western conference finals at oracle arena on sunday afternoon. game two will be at orcale on tuesday night. and then we'll have to wait until next saturday for games three and four in san antonio. (james) uber is facing a lawsuit this morning. the city of san francisco is trying to force the company into disclosing information about their drivers. city attorney dennis herrera is seeking the addresses and names of drivers. he says uber needs to comply with city registration rules. drivers who operate more than seven- days a year, must obtain a business registration certificate ... and pay an annual $91- fee. uber says it wants to get permission from drivers first before giving their information to the city. the company also wants assurances that drivers'

(james) a young basketball player collapses and dies after a game last weekend... and this morning she is being honored by her friends... and steph curry. a tribute to sophomore kimberly nuestro is growing at homestead high school in cupertino. on sunday, she collapsed during a game at mission college and later died. her coach said she had suffered a seizure about a year ago but seemed fine until this happened. nuestro was a huge fan of steph curry. the n-b-a player granted her father's wish by signing a pair of nuestro's steph curry shoes. becky chui/junior varsity coach:" she had made a blue and yellow dream catcher and if you looked in her closet, she has three pair of curries and honestly, it was unreal, she really loved the warriors..."(james) classmates have been wearing blue and yellow to school this week in her honor. tests are pending as nuestro's family searches for clues about what may have led to her death. for a rugby player who was paralyzed during a game last weekend. and now the cal community is coming together to raise money for recovery expenses. kron four's alecia reid has the story. the prayer vigil was somber, yet hopeful.upwards of 200 people packed the chapel as they prayed for a fellow student.pkgsot - we're praying for a miracleit was a huge turnout tonight at newman hall for rugby player robert paylor. sot - to give him moral support, and he's a man of faith and a man of prayer. and that was very evident from what was saidas the community prayed, his family says robert made a step forward in his journey today. he is out of i-c-u and has moved to a rehab trauma center where he will start rehab. the 20 year old will now have more of a routine and downtime at night to rest. his teammates are hoping for the best.sot - i think he's got great support from his brothers on the rugby team and the coaches and this great university. so hopefully he'll make progress and continue his recovery saturday's championship game left the rugby starter paralyzed from the chest down. from surgery, he is now has limited mobility in his arms and hands. the bears took home the trophy, but the excitement

director comey. the president tried to explain his reasons during a recent interview. (james) sources close to the president say he is frustrated by the russia probe, and leaks about its status because of the way it often overshadows his agenda. the white house says it believes that comey's firing will help bring the russia investigation to an end much quicker. (james) in the east bay... an emergency meeting is being held today after a grand jury recommends removing the contra costa county district attorney from office. mark peterson is accused of illegally spending 66-thousand dollars from his political campaign account on personal items between 20-11 and 20-16. the grand jury says his failure to report the spending

on campaign forms is corrupt misconduct. peterson was first fined 45-thousand dollars in december for violating the political reform act by spending that money on personal items. he said he considered the money to be loans and that he was paying the campaign fund back. peterson first took office in 20-10... and won re-election in 20-14. (james) a man charged with killing three white men in a racially motivated shooing rampage in fresno is back in court today. kori ali muhammad could find out if he's mentally stable to face criminal charges this morning. the 39-year-old is facing four counts of first degree murder. he killed three men on april 18th... and an unarmed motel guard three days before. a judge suspended the criminal case and ordered a psychological exam of muhammad after several outbursts in earlier court hearings. the doctor's report is expected to be ready today. (james) one man is still in the hospital after a violent brawl at a wedding in

fremont. one person has been arrested -- and now, police are looking for more suspects. kron 4's terisa estacio talked with one of the guests -- who watched the fight break out. (estacio reporting - ) wedding photograhpy raja singh says he has never seen anything like this raja singh, wedding photography. "i saw -3o to 40 people fighting each other beating each other." singh showed me a video - one of many on the internet - that captured the brawl that erupted this past weekend in fremont. watch as fists are flying - you can see here how it looks like a man is down on the ground, badly injured. sgt. cortes, fremont police dept. "there were many people fighting. responding officers found one person down with a traumatic brain injury." fremont police sgt. cortes says 17 officers raced to the fight in the early morning hours. sgt. cortes. "there were numerous people involved." "what we know for sure one person badly injured, in icu." one person, amritpal singh has been arrested so far. singh, "it was very violent.: singh says the

(james) a school in east palo alto is reopening today after not having any water. students at cesar chavez middle school were sent home yesterday morning after a pipe broke on wednesday. officials were waiting on contractors to get it fixed... but the work was not finished by the time school started yesterday morning. and with students lining up to use portable toilets... school officials decided to avoid a growing problem and just cancel classes. the repair

work was completed yesterday afternoon. (james) if you have state farm insurance you could soon get some money. about 250- thousand californians will get a refund of about 55-dollars for overcharges made between december 8th and mid-february. this only applies if you have homeowners or renters policies. the state insurance commissioner says he ordered state farm to cut its rates... but they did not comply. state farm instead filed a lawsuit against the rate reduction. in the meantime... they will issue the refunds to customers who signed up for new policies or renewed their old policies between decmber 18th 20-16 and february 13th of this year. (james) a major construction project in san francisco could soon help alleviate traffic congestion on city streets. kron four's dan kerman goes underground for an update on the central subway. it's down below louis vuitton on stockton street where the largest of the central subway's new stations is being built. this is the concourse level of the union square station below you can see the

concrete tubes where trains will carry passengers north to chinatown and south to the caltrain station and beyond john funghi/central subway program directorat projected opening we expect more riders on this line than on any other line in the city.the 1.7 mile central subway will head underground just past the caltrain station it will continue north to the new yerba buena moscone station, then on to stations in union square and chinatown. track work is already underway at the yerba buena station and should get underway at union square this summer massive steel support columns are still being lowered down from street level into the union square station, which, once completed will be the hub of the new central subway.this is an underground subway transfer station, we don't have one in san francisco right now but that's what we're buildingfor example those who take the central subway north from the caltrain station will be able to get off at the union square station, walk down this concourse and once this wall is taken down they will find themselves inside the powell

street station, where they can jump on the j, k, l or m and head west across the citywe are planning about 38- thousand transfers on a daily basis.the 1.6 billion dollar central subway is slated to open in november of 2019but there is already planning underway to extend the t-line further north we've actually completed line tunnel all the way to north beach and are laying the ground work for a future extension that is currently being planned for taking the t line to north beach and hopefully ultimately fisherman's wharf.getting to north beach and fisherman's wharf would extend the t-line about a half mile. routes, costs, timelines and approvals are still down the line. in san francisco, dan kerman kron 4 news.

( rebecca ) the shooting happened yesterday on highway 101 in healdsburg. it happened in the afternoon just past the dry creek road exit. the two victims were at a food truck when they were involved in some sort of argument with another man. then two miles down the road... a car drove up next to the men and opened fire.

( mark ) two men in san francisco are facing child pornography charges... and one of them is a doctor. these

are the suspects. billy lockhart and benjamin martin. they are roommates. police say lockhart -- who is a psychiatrist for u-c-s-f -- used the hospital internet to upload images. kron4's charles clifford has the details. the san francisco police department says that 36-year-old dr. billy lockhart and his roommate, 33 year old benjamin martin were arrested at their home in san francisco earlier this week. both men are facing charges for possession of child pornography and possession of over 600 files of child pornography. lockhart is also accused of distributing child porn. the police department says that back in march the internet crimes against children unit began investigating dr lockhart, who works as psychiatrist at ucsf. they now believe that he was uploading and trading child porn on the internet using the wifi connection at ucsf. investigators say that when they searched lockhart and martin's home they found hundreds of child pornography videos and images on multiple devices. they also found

evidence that lockhart was viewing child porn.in a statement, ucsf said on thursday that they were aware of dr. lockhart's arrest and the charges he is facing. ( darya ) uber is facing a lawsuit this morning. the city of san francisco is trying to force the company into disclosing information about their drivers. city attorney dennis herrera is seeking the addresses and names of drivers. he says uber needs to comply with city registration rules. drivers who operate more than seven- days a year, must obtain a business registration certificate ... and pay an annual $91- fee. uber says it wants permission from drivers to give the information to the city. the company also wants assurances that drivers' addresses will be kept off a city website. ( rebecca ) mark peterson is accused of illegally spending 66-thousand dollars from his political campaign account on personal items between 20-11 and 20-16. the grand jury says his failure to report the spending on campaign forms is corrupt misconduct. peterson was first fined 45-thousand dollars in december for violating the political reform act by spending that money on personal items. he said he considered the money to be loans and that he was paying the campaign fund back. peterson first took office in 20-10... and won re-election in 20-14. back to you. ( mark ) the acting director of the f-b-i says the russia investigation has not and will not be hindered by the firing of former director james comey. andrew mccabe testified yesterday on capitol hill... telling members of the senate that he will inform them if there is any tampering with the investigation. meanwhile questions are still looming around why the president fired director comey.

( mark ) one man is still in the hospital this morning after a violent brawl at a wedding in fremont. we told you about this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news... now we are hearing from one of the guests at the wedding. this is video of the fight that broke out over the weekend at royal palace on stevenson boulevard. one of the people at the wedding says he has never seen anything like this before.

13 animals are recovering in care facilities after they were found neglected and in poor health. the animals were removed from the rotary nature center near lake merritt in oakland. the city-owned nature center is now the center of an investigation after the animals were found back in march. the animals include a 60-year-old tortoise, three birds, guinea pigs, and a gecko. they were all sent to various animal care centers and officials say it will take

( mark ) police have released dash-cam video as police officers are beaten during a brawl near the u-c davis campus. this happened last month during the school's annual picnic day, but the video has just been released. you can see a van pulls up and multiple fights break out as soon as the door opens. police say they were kicked and punched while showing their badges and weapons. they were hospitalized for their

injuries. the davis police chief says a witness turned in this video... and they are hoping more come forward. ( mark ) three men were arrested for the fight. their lawyers say the officers are at fault. the city of davis has hired a former sacramento county sheriff to investigate exactly what happened. ( darya ) a judge in pennsylvania has overruled a district attorney's decision not to charge an amtrak engineer for a deadly train derailment. 8 people were killed when the train derailed in philadelphia back in 2015. an attorney for the families of the people killed says that engineer brandon bostian was responsible for the crash. the n-t-s-b investigation found that bostian was distracted by radio conversations about

other trains being hit with projectiles. the train's data recorder showed it was traveling at 106 miles per hour around a sharp curve. the speed limit was only 50 miles per hour. the district attorney originally ruled that there was no evidence that bostian acted with criminal intent. but a judge ruled that charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment can be brought against bostian. bostian has not commented on the judges ruling. the two victims were at a food truck when they were involved in some sort of argument with another man. then two miles down the road... a car drove up next to the men and opened fire. ( rebecca ) both victims are in serious condition... but are expected to be okay. police don't have a description of the gunman and they are still looking for him this morning. back to you. ( darya ) happening now.. police in morgan hill are looking for a teenager who went missing more than a week ago. 18-year-old desirae akins-qualls was last seen walking to a bus stop to go to school last thursday. she never got to school and has not been heard from since. the bus stop is one block away from where antolin garcia torres was convicted of trying to kidnapping three women back

in 20-09. akins-qualls is five foot five and has long brown hair and hazel eyes. the teen has a history of depression but police say she did not seem upset when she left home. ( mark ) two men in san francisco are facing child pornography charges... and one of them is a doctor. these are the suspects. billy lockhart and benjamin martin. they are roommates. police say lockhart -- who is a psychiatrist for u-c-s-f -- used the hospital internet to upload images. kron4's charles clifford has the details. the san francisco police department says that 36-year-old dr. billy lockhart and his roommate, 33 year old benjamin martin were arrested at their home in san francisco earlier this week. both men are facing charges for possession of child pornography and possession of over 600 files of child pornography. lockhart is also accused of distributing child porn. the police department says that back in march the internet crimes against children unit began investigating dr lockhart, who works as psychiatrist at ucsf. they now believe that he was uploading and trading child porn on the internet using the wifi connection at ucsf.

investigators say that when they searched lockhart and martin's home they found hundreds of child pornography videos and images on multiple devices. they also found evidence that lockhart was viewing child porn.in a statement, ucsf said on thursday that they were aware of dr. lockhart's arrest and the charges he is facing. "we take these allegations extremely seriously. ucsf has placed dr. lockhart on investigatory leave from the department of psychiatry's residency training program, suspending all clinical activity and access to all ucsf information systems."the hospital also says the ucsf police are cooperating with sfpd. killing four white men in a racially motivated shooing rampage in fresno is back in court today. kori al muhammad could find out if he's mentally stable to to face criminal charges this morning. the 39-year-old is facing four counts of first degree murder. he killed three men on april 18th... and an unarmed motel guard three days earlier. a judge suspended the criminal case and ordered a psychological exam of muhammad after several outbursts in earlier court hearings. the doctor's report is expected to be ready today. ( mark ) a u-c berkeley rugby player is now out of the i-c-u after he was severely injured during a game last weekend. 20-year-old robert paylor is now at a rehab trauma center. robert is paralyzed from the

( darya ) uber is facing a lawsuit this morning. the city of san francisco is trying to force the company into disclosing information

about their drivers. city attorney dennis herrera is seeking the addresses and names of drivers. he says uber needs to comply with city registration rules. drivers who operate more than seven- days a year, must obtain a business registration certificate ... and pay an annual $91- fee. uber says it wants permission from drivers to give the information to the city. the company also wants assurances that drivers' addresses will be kept off a city website. ( darya ) in tennessee... lawmakers approved legislation that will make tuitiona nd fees free for recent high school graduates that are enrolled in community college or techincal school. the goal is to get more adults a college education. to be eligible students must have been a state resident for at leeast a year before applying. they must also maintain a 2 point oh g-p-a and be enrolled in enough classes to be considered a part-time student. ( rebecca ) mark peterson is accused of illegally spending 66-thousand dollars from his political campaign account on personal items between 20-11 and 20-16. the grand jury says his failure to report the spending on campaign forms is corrupt misconduct. peterson was first fined 45-thousand dollars in december for violating the political reform act by spending that money on personal items. he said he considered the money to be loans and that he was paying the campaign fund back. peterson first took office in 20-10... and won re-election in 20-14. back to you. ( mark ) one man is still in the hospital this morning after a violent brawl at a wedding in fremont. we told you about this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news... now we are hearing from one of the guests at the wedding. this is video of the fight that broke out over the weekend at royal palace on stevenson boulevard. one of the people at the wedding says he has never seen anything like this before. ( mark ) nearly 700 people were at the reception. so far one person has been arrested. police are looking at cell phone and surveillance video from the area. investigators to take a while to figure everything out since so many people were involved in the fighting. ( darya ) san francisco is moving forward with plans to try to make the city more affordable for teachers. the city is spending more than 40-million dollars to create affordable housing for them.

13 animals are recovering in care facilities after they were found neglected and in poor health. the animals were removed from the rotary nature center near lake merritt in oakland. the city-owned nature center is now the center of an investigation after the animals were found back in march. the animals include a 60-year-old tortoise, three birds, guinea pigs, and a gecko. they were all sent to various animal care centers and officials say it will take them a long time to recover. the rotary nature center also serves as a summer camp for kids. ( darya ) governor jerry brown announced a revised budget plan for the year. the plan would withhold 50 million dollars from the university of california's budget.. brown says

auditors found the university hid tens of millions of dollars in reserve accounts..and over paid administrators. the governor also says he wants to spend more on grade schools and childcare.. the new fiscal year starts on july first. ( mark ) police have released dash-cam video as police officers are beaten during a brawl near the u-c davis campus. this happened last month during the school's annual picnic day, but the video has just been released. you can see a van pulls up and multiple fights break out as soon as the door opens. police say they were kicked and punched while showing their badges and weapons. they were hospitalized for their injuries. the davis police chief says a witness turned in this video... and they are hoping more come forward.
