california highway patrol captain christopher sherry says khin (ken) slowed down or stopped his car in the number two lane of the freeway just east of grant line road.... and, the driver of a tour bus carrying 51 tesla corporation employees traveling from fremont to stockton, slammed into the beetle.capt. christopher sherry/chp- "i don't have the statement from the bus driver right now. you can imagine, its reverse commute, traffic is driving faster than in the westbound direction, there's sun in the horizon. there's all types of factors involved with weather, roadway conditions, things like that that we'll be taking into consideration when we put together what happened in the collision." telsa released a statement saying all employees on the bus are safe and accounted for.nats- traffic the back-up extended for more than 10 miles into livermore. the c-h-p says the bus driver is being cooperative, and that neither drugs or alcohol appear to be factors in the crash... though its possible that person could face charges. capt. christopher sherry/chp- "anytime theres a situation like this, there's the potential for criminal charges. we'll have to wait." all lanes were re-opened

(grant) and tonight - we are learning more about the deputy. as kron four's terisa estacio reports, the sheriff talked about srouery khin... and how this tragedy is so painful. natural sound, alameda county sheriff greg ahern. "." this is a tragic day for us and the family of srouey khin." alameda county sheriff greg ahern talking about the tragic loss of deputy srouey khin friday morning in a tragic collision. sheriff ahern, alameda co. sheriff. "he just off ot - he is one of our hardest working employees. dedicated employee. he was just trying his best to earn some money for his wife and family. sheriff ahern says deputy khin had worked for several years here at the santa rita jail. he started his career with the sheriff's department back in 2007. sheriff ahern. " he has four children. one of our units is with the family now, we have a chaplain and peer support." sherriff ahern says this loss is also very hard to take because it comes on the heels of another deputy dying, mike foley back in february. "ahern. it is too much too soon. it is really tragic. it is heart wrenching, besides

(catherine) we have a screen shot showing the kind of message showing up in the cyberattack... it's been translated in many languages - and demands that computer owners pay big money to get their files unlocked.. one example of how serious this is........it's crippled computers at many british hospitals.patients were being turned away friday and operations were cancelled.

doctors said the ransomware was 'endangering lives.' among the other countries affected -- spain, where telecommunica tions companieshave been targeted.. and russia -- which could be the hardest hit. also affected -- fedex confirms 'it's' been hit.... researchers believe a criminal organization is behind this -- given its sophistication. the screen messages that are popping up include detailed instructions on how to pay the ransom... the ransomware attack apparently exploits a weakness in the u.s. national security agency that was exposed by wiki-leaks. an investigation is still in the early stages.. grant and vicki? (grant) lawyers suing wells fargo on behalf of customers... say the bank may have opened up to three-point- five million unathorized accounts. that's one- point-five million more than bank regulators disclosed last year.. in a court filing

today lawyers told a federal judge they believe the millions of accounts were opened over the last 15 years. a wells fargo spokesperson said this new estimation by lawyers is unverified and based on a hypothetical scenario. lawyers are now asking the judge to approve a one -hundred- and -ten million dollar settlement. (vicki) if you have state farm insurance you could soon get some money. about 250- thousand californians will get a refund of up to 55-dollars for over charges made between december 8th and mid-february. this only applies if you have homeowners or renters policies. the state insurance commissioner says he ordered state farm to cut its rates... but they did not comply. state farm instead filed a lawsuit against the rate reduction. in the meantime... they will issue the refunds to customers who signed up for new policies or renewed their old policies between december 18th 20-16 and february 13th of this year. under fire tonight. a civil grand jury has called for him to be removed from office due to misconduct... and now the members of the union representing the attorneys that work under him are recommending a no confidence vote. kron 4's dan kerman is live at the da's office in martinez with details. dan? (dan kerman) in january the state fair political practices commission fined contra costa county d.a. mark peterson $45,000 after the d.a. admitted to using $66,000 in campaign funds on personal expenses violating the government code. now after it's own investigation contra costa county's civil grand jury is calling for peterson's removal from the office of contra costa county district attorney for

ask people , we hold ourselves out as people who uphold the law , people who take the law seriously, so it's a tough message to hear.message to hear/130 (grant) happening now... police are still looking for the person who shot two men on highway 101 in wine country. it happened yesterday afternoon just past the dry creek road exit in healdsburg. the two victims were at a food truck when they were involved with some sort of altercation with another man. then two miles down the road... a car drove up next to the men and opened fire. both victims suffered major injuries... but are expected to be okay. police do not have a description of the

gunman at this time. (grant) also happening now... police in palo alto are looking for a man who exposed himself to a woman who was hiking with her toddler. it happened around 3-30 wednesday afternoon on a trail at the palo alto baylands. the woman says she was walking on the trail along the northern boundry of the palo alto airport when she heard something in the bushes. when she turned to look... she saw a naked guy. this is a sketch of the man. he's said to be about six feet tall with a thin build... and had his hair pulled back in a bun. she also says he has tattoos on his arms and legs and was wearing a black zip-up jacket and dark colored shorts.. (vicki) police in berkeley have recovered more than 500-thousand-dollars worth of goods... they believe were stolen in a series of robberies targeting c-v-s and walgreens stores. two people have been arrested after investigators searched a home and storage unit in san leandro...where several boxes were found with stolen cosmetics. these photos show what detectives found.

some allegedly still had the store's price stickers on them. rosa jimenez and her boyfriend enrique rodriguez...who live at the residence...were arrested for receiving stolen goods. in february...police arrested other four suspects in connection to the string of robberies. (grant) two more cars go up in flames in the east bay. still ahead on kron four news... police are working to track down a possible serial arsonist - who is responsible for ten car fires just this week. been set on fire overnight in contra costa county. this is the latest in a string of car fires spread across the county this week. kron4's haaziq madyun shows you where the two recent vehicles were found a pair of gardening hoses and a fire extinguisher, that is what a lafayette family used to fight a fire set to one of the vehicles parked outside their home here on crescenta court. the vehilce owner told me off camera that it happened around 2am friday morning. his son heard something that sounded like an explosion, came outside and found his

mom's toyota highlander on fire. it was one of two vehicles set ablaze over night in this area. a few miles away first responders with contra costa fire protection district found this vehicle on fire on juanita drive in walnut creek this week there has been 7-vehicles set on fire... 2 in lafayette, 2 in walnut creek, 2 in brentwood and 1 in martinezfire investigators are checking surveillance cameras in the area of crenscenta court and juanita drive for any possible

clues. so far no one has been injured in lafayette kron4news (vicki) the extension of bart to san jose is on schedule as testing is set to begin this summer. this week, the tracks were electrified. (double box) and now, as kron four's rob fladeboe reports live from san jose, residents are being warned about that electrification. rob? (rob live) that's right, 1000 volts of electricity are now coursing through the tracks that runthrough this and other south bay neighborhoods and vta wants to make sure people are aware of the danger. we won't see any actual bart trains running here in north san jose until later this year but the valley transportation authority wants people who live near the tracks to know that they have now been electrified and are dangerous.

stacy hendler-ross/ vta " from warm springs in fremont to berressa in north san jose the entire corrodor has been electrified with 1000 volts of electricy..."that means coming into contact with the tracks could be lethal. the entire corridor isgrade separated, which means it runs either over or under city streets, minimizing interaction with pedestrians and traffic. the tracks are protected by a high fence topped with razor wire and and there are signs like this one warning of the danger but these tracks are unlike any other in the south bay. stacy hendler-ross/vta" santa clara county has never had an electified ground based train system before so if people see a train track they might think it's like amtrack or caltrain and think it's okay to walk on on it..."which is why vta will be going door to door for the next 30 days educating residents aboutthe newly electrifed tracks. tracks have been electrified, testing will this summer and then, the system could be up and running by the end of the year, several months ahead of schedule. in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news (vicki) smart trains are beginning testing its passenger service schedule today... which means the train's horn will no longer sound at crossings in marin county unless there is an emergency. san rafael police are advising motorists to take extra caution at rail road crossings while this is going on. smart first objected to quiet zones during testing claiming it endanger the public... but novato, san rafael, and petaluma city councils were able to get approval to prohibit sounding the horns at crossings. smart trains will be running about 30-train trips a day during the week and 10-trips on weekends between santa rosa and san rafael for the next few weeks.

(grant) track work at an east bay bart station will continue tomorrow... but fear not warriors fans... the lake merritt station will resume regular service on sunday for the dubs game. it will be closed tomorrow - crews can make repairs. riders can expext delays of 20 to 40 minutes... through the area. people heading to the oakland airport - should also expect delays. there will be a free shuttle available. additional closures for the station are planned periodically through july. so see the specific dates, head to our website., kron4.com. first told you about yesterday... a missing teen in morgan hill...gone for over a week....has been found safe in san jose. 18-year-old desirae akins- qualls was reported missing after she did not show up at school in san jose eight days ago. police in morgan hill asked for the public's help yesterday in locating the teen. officials say she was a known runaway, but usually called home after one or two days. police in morgan hill thanked the public on their facebook page this morning for help in locating her. (grant) staying in the south bay... several parents are called to pick up their kids from camp campbell... because of some type of illness. the camp is in boulder creek in santa cruz county, but it's part of the y-m-c-a of silicon valley. parents tell kron four

that many of the adults running the camp started felling sick. they also say the camp has been closed for health inspections. some of the kids at the camp were from linda vista elementary school in san jose. one parent says they took their kid to the hospital as a precaution. we have reached out to the camp -- but heard back (vicki) the may edition of san luis obispo high school's newspaper shows two girls kissing on the front cover. after it sparked outrage by a former teacher...it also led to positive conversation on campus about support for the l-g-b-t community. some students say the cover made them do a double take...but when a former teacher saw the paper...he wrote a scathing letter to the editor mostly quoting the bible and it's condemnation of homosexuality. the superintendent of the school responded...saying both parties have the right to their freedom of speech. parents say the issue has brought up a good topic of conversation about acceptance at the school. (lisa ritterbuck/ resident) "this is a kids paper, they're exploring a lot of different things as they should be at this age and learning a lot." (kenny mccarthy/ parent)""the

silent about their dinner at the white house, seven days after president trump's inauguration. the president's press secretary refused to say that the president's tweet was an attempt to intimidate comey. "i don't think that -- that's not a threat. he's simply stated a fact. the tweet speaks for itself. i'm moving on."sean spicer repeatedly turned aside questions about secret recordings. "does anyone in this white house have an audio recording of what unfolded during the january 27th dinner between the former fbi director and the president of the united states?""i'm not aware of that."the one=on=one dinner has produced two very different interpretations. (vicki) another big story we are tracking... the engineer involved in the deadly 2015 amtrak derailment in philadelphia has now been charged. prosecutors say brandon bastain - was going 106 mile per hour in a 50 miles per hour zone - causing the trail to derail. the crash killed eight people and left nearly 200 others -

injured. bastin has been charged with causing a catastrophe, eight counts of involuntary manslaughter as well as other crimes. his lawyer says he is planning to surrender - and is expected to be arraigned on the charges next week. (grant) a ban on laptops and other large electronics on certain flights to the u-s could soon become a reality. following a meeting today with the u-s department of homeland security...officials told airlines to be prepared for an expanded ban of laptops. currently the ban is in place at ten airports in eight countries...it's in place because of increased terrorism concerns. the possible expansion would affect u-s bound flights, and likely some major cities in europe. (grant) even delta airlines is confused by the electronics ban on flights to america. delta briefly posted a sign in its cincinnati terminal today... warning international travelers that they would have to check any electronics, other than a cell phone, when

flying back to the united states. a delta spokesman apologized for the confusion that the sign caused and said it's been removed. (vicki) united airlines says there is no evidence someone was bitten by a scorpion on one of its flights last night. the flight from houston to ecuador was delayed after a scorpion was reportedly seen coming out of a passenger's clothing. the passenger was examined and determined he had not been stung. it's unclear if the scorpion was found. united says passengers were placed on a new aircraft and given meal vouchers ahead of their delayed departure. the incident comes about a month after a man on a united flight from houston to calgary says he was stung by a scorpion. blame. (grant) on wall street... stocks are ending the day mostly lower as declines in banks and industrial stocks outweigh gains in other sectors. the dow lost 23 points. the nasdaq edged up a little more than 5 points. and the s&p fell more than 3.

fiat chrysler is recalling one- point-three million ram pickups due to a software issue that's been to at least one death and two injuries. the issue could disable the truck's side airbags from deploying and seat belts from tightening in rollover crashes. the automaker says drivers should be alerted to the problem via an instrument cluster warning light. to find out what trucks are impacted- head to our website kron four dot com. (grant) new studies from the centers for disease control and prevention show hepatitis-c infection rates are soaring across the u-s. the c-d-c found that the number of new hep- c infections rose from eight-hundred-fifty in 20-10 to more than two-thousand- four-hundred in 20-15. the report released today blamed the increase on injection drug use...like heroin...which is linked to the opioid epidemic. hep -c is primarily spread through sharing needles... the author of the study says the best way to prevent it from spreading is to give i-v drug users access to services

(vicki) some of the biggest candy makers are putting their snacks on a diet. mars announced a partnership with several other candy manufacturers to reduce calories in their products. the group includes nestle and the companies that make brachs, nutella, and russell stover. they plan to package their candies in smaller portions and label them more clearly. mars said it will spend 200-million dollars to make sure half the products it sells has no more than 200 calories by 20-22. tonight for a top east bay prosecutor to step down. steve aveson is in the newsroom with what we are working on for kron4 news at six. (steve) we are talking about contra costa district attorney mark peterson. this week a civil grand jury recommended that peterson be removed from his position because of corruption. he is accused of illegally spending 66-thousand dollars from his political campaign account on personal items. peterson said he considered the money to be loans and that he was paying the campaign fund back. now a group inside the d.a.'s office are asking for a no confidence vote. we will have that story and more on kron 4 news at six. grant back to you. eastbound interstate- 580. the california highway patrol says, 51-year-old sroeuy (shuh-roy) khin (ken) was behind the wheel of a volkwagon bettle... hit from behind by a tour bus carrying 51- telsa corporation employees. the crash happened just after seven- o'clock in the morning, just east of grant line road. the c-h-p says, it appears khin (ken) either stopped or was driving slowly in the number -two lane when the bus collided with him. khin died on scene. capt. christopher sherry/chp- "we still have to look at all of the physical evidence that's at the scene. interviewing the driver, inspecting the vehicles and then we can put together a better picture of speeds involved mechanical -- things like that."(pam) right now, the c-h-p says, it appears the bus driver was going the speed limit... but it is unclear why the driver could not avoid the collision... the c-h-p says, criminal charges are not out of the question. as for the tesla employees... tesla released a statement saying ... all its workers were safe and accounted for.

(pam) in national news tonight... three children were killed early this morning in a house fire... the fire broke out just after four- in the morning in montgomery county in texas... firefighters say, two brothers and their sister were trapped on the second floor.. they tried to recue the children but the flames were so big, they were not able to reach them in time.... the
