( marty @ landing ) one person is dead this morning following a two car crash in fremont. this happened in the intersection of fremont boulevard and darwin drive around 3:30 this morning. one person is in serious condition while two others are suffering from non-life threatening injuries. drivers should expect delays this morning in the area of fremount boulevard. ( marty @ landing ) our top story this morning, crews are still at the scene in emeryville after a massive fire breaks out at an apartment complex that was under construction we first broke this story yesterday on kron four news weekend. kron 4's averi harper is there this morning. averi?

(averi)there's one piece of good news about this inferno on the border or oakland and emeryville - it was burning an unfinished building, and it didn't hurt anybody.darlis manning saw almost the same thing last year.and the deja-vu continues with a crane used in the constructionstill perched high above the site. fire officials worry tens of thousands of pounds of steel ácould come tumbling downsome people on the opposite side of the burning building were evacuatedbecause they live within the potential collapse zone of the crane.but manning took action long before that. neighbors two blocks away say wind carried embers that in turn caught the roof of this house on fire.once again, the mannings tried to be prepared. they got breakfast and lunch from the red cross, which has been who needs a place to stay. though nobody is ádisplaced by the fire, those who have been evacuated most likely won't be able to return untl the crane has been removed.meanwhile, federal alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and agents and local investigators have used drones as part of their into the cause of the fire.they don't know what it started it, but they have not ruled out arson.

( marty @ landing ) meanwhile, a suspected serial arsonist is in jail this morning in the east bay. he is being held on three-million dollars bail. police say he set more than 40 car fires. more than seven of those happened just last week. kron four's jeff pierce reports the man was caught in the act. the most recent incident early saturday morning resulted in an arrest in neighboring solano counter.we have made an arrest in a series of vehicle fires that have occurred in recent weeks throughout contra cost county. a thirty six year old man was located in a residential area of benicia and as officers arrived the suspect appeared to have set a fire to a vehicle in a drive way.the rash of fires brought multiple law enforcement agencies together to address the large numbers of vehicle fires and they were present at the arrest.we assembled a task force because of the vehicle

fires. investigators from the contra costa das office, the california highway patrol, lafayette police department and the concord police department.the suspect, who authorities chose not to name at this time, is charged with forty three counts of arson in connection with the fires. investigators found numerous similarities that led them to the suspect.there have been commonalities between all the fires that we know of that the suspect is currently being charged with and that was partially how we were able to locate a suspect.we're confident that he is responsible for the charges we are bringing against him.with more than three hundred vehicle fires in the county last year alone fire officials hope this arrest will dramatically reduce that number.we're relieved, we're hoping that the fires will stop. there will continue to be vehicle fires we just hope that the rate of the vehicle fires will drop now that we've made an arrest.the suspect is being held on a bail of three million dollars. in concord jeff pierce kron four news. worldwide cyber attack thats being called the largest online extortion attack ever. a 22 year old malware researcher is credited with stopping the assault. people in more than 150 countries including the u-s were affected. a vulnerability in microsoft windows was revealed spreading ransomware across networks around the world. the attackers demanded that users pay 300 dollars. and if they failed to do so computer files would be deleted. that 22-year-old researcher published a blog yesterday about a kill switch to disable the attack. authorities have made no arrests in this case. ( marty ) bay area basketball. warriors head coach steve kerr attended his first home practice in oakland for the first time in three weeks. this is video from yesterday's practice. kerr missed the entire second round against the utah jazz after health concerns. he

announced he was taking a leave of absence to address the chronic pain he's been dealing with since having multiple back surgeries in 2015. kerr had a spinal leak procedure done last week. while it was promising to see him back in the gym, there is still no timetable for his return. ( marty ) and the warriors play game 1 of the western conference finals today. they host the second seed san antonio spurs. the teams had the two best records in the n-b-a during the regular season. the spurs won 2 out of the 3 matchups between the two teams. however, the warriors have yet to lose a playoff game this postseason. tip-off is set for 12:30 this afternoon at oracle arena. ( marty ) one man is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after police say he crashed a stolen vehicle in san leandro. it happened around three yesterday afternoon on miramonte avenue. officers say the man was speeding in a car that was reported stolen earlier this week. he lost control of the car. it launched about 70 feet off of

( marty ) it was a special day at mills college in oakland. before the graduating class of 20-17 received their diplomas, a bay area civil rights icon was awarded with an honorary doctorate for nearly a century of activism on behalf of women and african americans. kron four's philippe djegal reports betty reid soskin is overwhelmed by the honor. officials say they are in no rush for his return. the giants have the worst record in baseball. ( marty ) but things are looking a little better for the giants. they had a short turnaround after their walkoff 17th inning win against the reds friday night and early saturday morning. the giants were looking to win back to back games for the first time since early april. in the first, brandon belt smacks a solo shot that sails into mccovey cove. his sixth career splash hit. the giants lead 1-nothing. in the seventh, giants up 2-1. and for the second straight game the giants had a quality start from their starting pitcher. as matt moore struck out seven and only allowed a run over seven innings. giants go on to win 3-1 ( marty ) the a's were looking for a win in arlington against the rangers and with the game tied in the seventh, nomar mazara clears the bases. with a double

has been filed by albany high school students in connection with racist social media posts. it was filed on the behalf of four families. kron 4's hermela aregawi spoke to their lawyer and has the details. (hermela aregawi)the controversy over racist social media posts at albany high is far from over.friday, two students filed a lawsuit, while two others are unofficially represented.they claiming the school treated them unfairly leaving their education compromised.joseph salama/attorney: they were offered an online brigham young university class taught by a computer with no human interaction, no ability to do lab work. and it just doesn't compare. they have to start the semester all over again. they lose their summer vacation doing the make-up work and for something the school created and something the school took away from them that's a pretty crappy thing to do to them.the lawsuit claims that because this was on instagram, and text.. platforms not owned by albany high, they have the right to free speech.the second part the lawsuit is about the way the school handled the incident.the students were suspended up to five days.

sheriff jason garner and community service officer raschel johnson were responding to a robbery. when they crashed into an auto wrecker business and went up in flames. security video from a car dealership across the street shows the vechicle flying down the street just before the accident. the cause of the collision is under investigation. garner was a 9-year veteran. and johnson was a 15-year veteran. arsonist is in jail this morning in the east bay. he is being held on three-million dollars bail. police say he set more than 40 car fires. more than seven of those happened just last week. kron four's jeff pierce reports the man was caught in the act. the most recent incident early saturday morning resulted in an arrest in neighboring solano counter.we have made an arrest in a series of vehicle fires that have occurred in recent weeks throughout contra cost county. a thirty six year old man was located in a residential area of benicia and as officers arrived the suspect appeared to have set a fire to a vehicle in a drive way.the rash of fires brought multiple law enforcement agencies together to address the large numbers of vehicle fires and they were present at the arrest.we assembled a task force because of the vehicle fires. investigators from the contra costa das office, the california highway patrol, lafayette police department and the concord police department.the suspect, who authorities chose not to name at this time, is charged with

forty three counts of arson in connection with the fires. investigators found numerous similarities that led them to the suspect.there have been commonalities between all the fires that we know of that the suspect is currently being charged with and that was partially how we were able to locate a suspect.we're confident that he is responsible for the charges we are bringing against him.with more than three hundred vehicle fires in the county last year alone fire officials hope this arrest will dramatically reduce that number.we're relieved, we're hoping that the fires will stop. there will continue to be vehicle fires we just hope that the rate of the vehicle fires will drop now that we've made an arrest.the suspect is being held on a bail of three million dollars. in concord jeff pierce kron four news. a 22 year old malware researcher is credited with stopping the assault. people in more than 150 countries including the u-s were affected. a vulnerability in microsoft windows was revealed spreading ransomware across networks around the world. the attackers demanded that users pay 300 dollars. and if they failed to do so computer files would be deleted. that 22-year-old researcher published a blog yesterday about a kill switch to disable the attack. ( marty ) experts say the best way to protect yourself is to make sure your computer and your spyware programs are updated. authorities have made no arrests in this case. ( marty ) california could spend more than 220-million to bring driver's licenses and i-d cards up to federal standards. california and about 20 other states currently aren't in compliance with the u-s real i-d act. it's aimed at making i-d's more secure after the 9-11 terrorist attacks. now the trump administration has set a deadline for states to comply. after that --- non- compliant cards can't be used at airport security checkpoints. the new cards should be available next year. but you will have to apply in person at the d-m-v. the deadline for to upgrade licenses is october 20-20. cost county. a thirty six year old man was located in a residential area of benicia and as officers arrived the suspect appeared to have set a fire to a vehicle in a drive way.the rash of fires brought multiple law enforcement agencies together to address the large numbers of vehicle fires and they were present at the arrest.we assembled a task force because of the vehicle fires. investigators from the contra costa das office, the california highway patrol, lafayette police department and the concord police department.the suspect, who authorities chose not to name at this time, is charged with forty three counts of arson in connection with the fires. investigators found numerous similarities that led them to the suspect.there have been commonalities between all the fires that we know of that the suspect is currently being charged with and that was partially how we were able to locate a suspect.we're confident that he is responsible for the charges we are bringing against him.with more than three hundred vehicle fires in the county last year alone fire officials hope this arrest will dramatically reduce that number.we're relieved, we're
