( james ) the wife of an alameda county sheriff's deputy who was arrested for a deadly d-u-i crash that killed a three year old is arrested again. police say yarenit malihan was arrested for public intoxication in pleasanton friday afternoon on

las positas boulevard. malihan has been arrested twice on suspicion of d-u-i in the past year. in september, investigators say she was intoxicated when she rear-ended a stalled car on 680 in san ramon..killing three year old elijan dunn. she has not been charged in the deadly crash. the district attorney's office says they are still investigating. ( james ) an east bay community is in mourning. a prayer service was held for a teen killed in a car crash over the weekend. shane marcelino's ((marce-leeno)) mom was driving when their car was hit on mother's day on the way home from the prom. kron four's j-r stone has the story. 18 year old shane marcelino lost her life early sunday morning in a car crash. monday night hundreds of her classmates and community members attended a prayer service for her. many telling us her loss is still hard to comprehend.sot still surreal hadn't sunk in a whole lot yet sot my heart dropped

immediately i'm still in shock sot it has been very sad she was always very bubbly and happy when i saw her.shane was a matter of weeks away from her high school graduation. she was an honor student who played flute. early sunday morning is when the accident happened. shortly after her mom picked her up from prom. sot she did what any parent would do and go picked up her daughter and they were so close to home yet tragedy what happened.her mom made a u-turn in this intersection and that was when their black toyota was struck by another vehicle. killing shane. her friends say it has been a difficult 24 hours but they will remember the good times.sot i think the biggest thing that most people will remember from her will be the smile and the laughter.sot

include 105 apartments and 25 thousand feet of retail space. fire investigators haven't determined a cause. firefighters were still putting out hot spots yesterday and crews have been removing a mountain of debris. investigators are looking at arson. ( james ) regardless of what authorities determine in terms of arson... the developer plans to rebuild the construction site for a third time. ( james ) happening tonight. the golden state warriors host the san antonio spurs for game 2 of the western conference finals. and the spurs will be without forward kawhi leonard. all the attention was on zaza pachulia during practice yesterday. spurs coach greg popovich says the center made a dirty play to hurt leonard in game one. the warriors came back from a 25 point deficit to win game 1, 113 to 111. golden state

morning for a gunman who shot two people on an east bay freeway. we first told you about this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. it happened just after 9:00 sunday night on a southbound 880 off-ramp in hayward. police say a toyota tacoma was exiting the winton avenue off-ramp when a driver pulled up next to it and shot at the people inside. two people in the back seat were hit in the legs. officers say the shooting was gang-related. there have been more than 100 freeway shootings in the bay area since 2015.

( james ) and now there is a new tool in the fight to stop freeway shootings in the east bay. contra costa county announced they have received funding for a freeway surveillance camera system kron four's haaziq madyun has the latest. you are looking at illegal weapons confiscated during a 2016 freeway shooting in contra costa countycontra costa county senior deputy distrct attorney mary knox says gang related freeway shooting investigations will be getting help from a new surveillance camera network. knox says the cameras will be strategically placed between i-80 and richmond and highway-4 in antioch

decrease in pending cases due to a redcution in freeway shootings...something i guess we all are hoping for. in contra costa county haaziq madyun kron4news ( james @ landing ) in the south bay. some orphaned coyote pups are safe this morning. it's all thanks to some homeowners who were paying very close attention and noticed their mom never came back. kron four's alecia reid has the story from san jose. chuck rossi is reinforcing a closure in his back yard where a coyote built a den, before giving birth to her pups about 2 weeks ago. he set up surveillance to keep an eye on everything.sot - we'll just have to deal with this for the next 8 weeks.at first it was going quite smoothly.chuck rossi / san josesot - she would come back every 4 hours or so to feed the pups. after 24 hours we realized she was never coming backthe mom was hit by a car and killed on almaden expressway overnight. the pups were left to fend for themselves.sot - they're not inclined to want to come out rossi called all over to find

out what to do next. eventually a non profit wildlife team from monterey made the drive to help out. but it was no easy task.sot - she made a den that was an engineering marvel. it was 2 entrances, 3 exits, and a secret spot where they could hide. when we went in to try and dig them out or scare them out, they bunkered down. it took us 3 hours of digging and making the opening bigger and inserting ourselves in there.a crew from the wildlife center of silicon valley also went out to help with the rescue. sot - it's a tricky process but we're glad they're here with us nowthe pups who're spooked easily . are now being cared for in a section of the facility that is sectioned off. laura hawkins / wildlife center of silicon valleysot - very well protected. built with wood, wire mesh, and locked. they'll stay til that point until they're large enough to move to the larger coyote enclosure they'll remain at the wildlife center until the fall. employees make sure not to foster over exposure to humans, that way it's seamless

antolin garcia-torres. he was found guilty in the march 20-12 kidnap and murder of sierra lamar. the jury will decide wether he will spend the rest of his life in prison or face the death penalty. the defense is expected to call a psychologist as a witness to testify about how garcia- torres was raised in a troubled family. his father was convicted of molesting his sister and is in prison. the prosecution will call sierra lamar's mother and father back to the stand to testify how her death impacted their family. the prosecution also wants to have garcia torres evaluated by it's own psychologist. ( james ) the jury is expected to come to a decision in the next two to three weeks ( james ) two men remain

in jail this morning, facing multiple charges for possession of thousands of images of child pornography. both men one from aptos and the other from tiburon worked with kids and allegedly took pictures of the children in their care. kron four's charles clifford has the story. in this indictment filed in federal court last week, two men. . . 19-year-old ryan michael spencer of aptos and 24-year-old bryan petersen of tiburon are charged with multiple crimes including possession of child pornography and conspiracy to distribute and receive child pornography.according to the department of justice, the fbi received a tip that petersen had child porn on his computer and in a dropbox account . last month, the fbi searched petersen's home and allegedly discovered thousands of pornographic images and videos

of children. upon further investigation they also learned that petersen and spencer had been sharing those images.according to the fbi, both men worked with children. petersen was as a chess coach, a babysitter, and tutor in tiburon while spencer worked as a camp counselor, babysitter and teacher in training in aptos. investigators say that they used those positions to take pictures and videos of the children in their care. we visited petersen's home in tiburon on monday, but no one was available for comment.both men remain in custody and if convicted of any of the charges they could face a maximum of twenty years in prison. ( james ) a doctor and nurse are accused of sex crimes against children. watsonville police arrested doctor james kohut sunday on suspicion of sexually abusing at least one minor. rashel brandon who was one of kohut's nurses was arrested last week in connection with the case. according to the charges, both victims were under 14 years old.

( james ) in the east bay... the person who tampered with the electrical system of an antioch home that went up in flames could now face criminal charges. firefighters responded to the fire sunday night on blythe drive near shaw circle in antioch. two firefighters were severly shocked because the electrical system in the home had been tampered with. while fighting the fire, crews were not able to turn off the power to the home. investigators are now trying to determine who modified the electrical system. the firefighers are going to be okay. ( james ) the global cyber ransom- ware attack called "wanna cry" continues to spread. it has affected more than two-hundred-thousand victims and in one- hundred and- fifty countries. security researchers are now looking at possible connections between the global "ransomware" attack and north korea. a kill switch was discovered to free infected computers. then hackers then patched that kill switch rendering it use-less. ( james ) governor jerry brown's budget proposal includes 15 million dollars to help people fighting deportation. this would bump the state's financial aid fund to 33-million dollars. immigrant rights groups have applauded the move saying it is a commitment to protecting families. it could also be interpreted as a direct challenge to the trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration. ( james ) one of the officers who dragged a united airlines passenger off a flight in april had just finished a suspension when the incident happened. officer james long was suspended march 27 for violating five department rules. long's suspension ended march 31. nine days later, long was one of several chicago aviation department officers who dragged doctor david dao from a full flight at o'hare airport. his violations included "inattention to duty," ''incompetence or inefficiency" and "conduct unbecoming an officer or public employee." ( james ) a new hampshire man says that he wouldn't be alive this morning if it wasn't for siri on his i-phone. the app helped dial 9-1-1 for him when he physically couldn't. christopher beaucher ((bo-shay)) was checking on his mom's cottage earlier this month... which is up for sale and vacant. he says he saw something suspicious so he went inside the home to check it out. but everything changed when he flicked on the light switch. ( mark ) happening today. opening statements begin in the penalty phase of antolin garcia-torres. he was found guilty in the march 20- 12 kidnapping and murder of sierra lamar. the jury will decide wether he will spend the rest of his life in prison or face the death penalty. the defense is expected to call a psychologist as a witness to testify about how garcia- torres was raised in a troubled family. his father was convicted of molesting his sister and is in prison. the prosecution will call sierra lamar's mother and father back to the stand to testify how her death impacted their family. the prosecution also wants to have garcia torres evaluated by it's own psychologist. the penalty phase is expected to last up to three weeks. ( darya ) the wife of an alameda county sheriff's deputy who was arrested for a deadly d-u-i crash that killed a three year old is arrested again. police say yarenit malihan was arrested for public intoxication in pleasanton friday afternoon on las positas boulevard. malihan has been arrested twice on suspicion of d-u-i in the past year. in september, investigators say she was intoxicated when she rear-ended a stalled car on 680 in san ramon..killing three year old elijan dunn. she has not been charged in the deadly crash. the district attorney's office says they are still investigating. ( darya ) family and friends held a vigil last night for a teen killed in a car crash in fremont. shane marcelino died on mother's day. her mother was picking her up from prom,

( mark ) two babysitters remain in jail this morning..accused of sharing thousands of images of child pornography. and police say the two men took pictures of children in their care.

19-year-old ryan michael spencer... who you see on your left... is from aptos. he was arrested along with 24- year-old bryan petersen of tiburon. last month the f-b-i searched petersen's home ... and investigators say they found thousands of pornographic images and videos of children. they then learned that petersen and spencer were sharing those images with each other. the f-b-i says petersen was a chess coach, babysitter, and tutor in tiburon. spencer worked as a camp counselor and babysitter in apots. authorities say the men used their jobs to take pictures and videos of the kids in their care. both men are now facing up to 20-years in prison. ( darya ) a doctor and nurse are accused of sex crimes against children. watsonville police arrested doctor james kohut sunday on suspicion of sexually abusing at least one minor. rashel brandon who was one of kohut's nurses was arrested last week in connection with the case. according to the charges, both victims were under 14 years old. ( darya ) four men have pleaded guilty in the hazing death of a new york college student. 18-year-old michael deng died after he was injured in a fraternity ritual on a trip to pennsylvania. prosecutors say the fraternity brothers waited to contact police after deng was injured. four of the fraternity members have pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and concealing evidence. more than 30 other fraternity members are still awaiting court appearances. these guilty pleas also come as 18 men are being charged with the death of a freshman at penn

( darya ) the search continues this morning for a gunman who shot two people on an east bay freeway. we first told you about this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. it happened just after 9:00 sunday night on a southbound 880 off-ramp in hayward. police say a toyota tacoma was exiting the winton avenue off-ramp when a driver pulled up next to it and shot at the people inside. two people in the back seat were hit in the legs. officers say the shooting was gang-related. there have been more than 100 freeway shootings in the bay area since 2015. ( darya ) and now the state is providing help to crack down on all of the

freeway shootings. contra costa county will be getting one and a half million dollars from the state to set up a special surveillance camera network..that uses a shot spotter technology. ( mark ) kron4 news has learned a lawsuit will be filed today in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire. 36 people were killed when the fire broke out last december in oakland. attorneys for the families of the people killed will hold a news conference at noon today outside the alameda county courthouse and they will announce who is named in the lawsuit. ( mark ) the person who tampered with the electrical system of an antioch home that

went up in flames could now face criminal charges. firefighters responded to the fire sunday night on blythe drive near shaw circle in antioch. two firefighters were severly shocked because the electrical system in the home had been tampered with. while fighting the fire, crews were not able to turn off the power to the home. investigators are now trying to determine who modified the electrical system. the firefighers are going to be okay. ( darya ) a former u-c-s-f doctor has pleaded not guilty to child pornography charges. prosecutors say billy lockhart had 15-hundred images and more than 2-hundred videos of children. police say some of them show infants as young as six- months old. lockhart was arrested last week after an investigation revealed he allegedly used wi-fi at his job to upload the illegal content. he is out of jail after posting bail. ( darya ) breaking news from overnight... more flaring at the valero refinery in benicia.( mark ) this is the same refinery that started flaring almost two weeks ago that lead to some evacuations. kron 4's lydia pantazes is live in benicia this morning with the details. ( lydia ) you can see the refinery behind me....that's the flaring viewers are worried about.(take viewer video)they sent us video of the flaring and pictures this morning.you may remember last week a power failure at the valero refinery in benicia caused major flaring at the plant and also sent plumes of black smoke into the air.that prompted some evacuations and forced the venecia unified school district to send out a notification due to the flaring.when there is no power the stacks flare to safely release heat.as a result of last weeks flaring the bay area quality management district issued six violations against the refinery.we did contact valero and they confirmed they do still have flaring this morning that is residual from the power outage last week.reporting live in benicia, lydia pantazes kron4 news. ( darya ) the wife of an alameda county sheriff's deputy who was arrested for a deadly d-u-i crash that killed a three year old is arrested again. police say yarenit malihan was arrested for public intoxication in pleasanton friday afternoon on las positas boulevard. malihan has been arrested twice on suspicion of d-u-i in the past year. in september, investigators say she was intoxicated when she rear-ended a stalled car on 680 in san ramon..killing three year old elijan dunn. she has not been charged in the deadly crash. the district attorney's office says they are still investigating. ( mark ) new this morning... police arrested a man for exposing himself to two teenagers at a park in santa rosa. it happened at at prince memorial greenway last night. police say 29-year-old cosbie marable was exposing himself to people at the park including a 14 and 16 year old. police arrested him for indecent exposure and lewd acts in public. friends held a vigil last night for a teen killed in a car crash in fremont. shane marcelino died on mother's day. her mother was picking her up from prom, when they were hit by another car. the 18-year-old was an honor student at james logan high school in union city. hundreds of her classmates gathered for a prayer service last night. students spoke to kron four about their memories of her. ( darya ) three other people were injured in the crash including shane's mother -- she is expected to recover. officers are investigating whether alcohol or drugs

( mark ) two babysitters remain in jail this morning..accused of sharing thousands of images of child pornography. and police say the two men took pictures of children in their care. 19-year-old ryan michael spencer... who you see on your left... is from aptos. he was arrested along with 24- year-old bryan petersen of tiburon. last month the f-b-i searched petersen's home ... and investigators say they found thousands of pornographic images and videos of children. they then learned that petersen and spencer were sharing those images with each other. the f-b-i says petersen was a chess coach, babysitter, and tutor in tiburon. spencer worked as a camp counselor and babysitter in apots. authorities say the men used their jobs to take pictures and videos of the kids in their care. both men are now facing up to 20-years in prison. ( mark ) a doctor and nurse are accused of sex crimes against children. watsonville police arrested doctor james kohut sunday on

suspicion of sexually abusing at least one minor. rashel brandon who was one of kohut's nurses was arrested last week in connection with the case. according to the charges, both victims were under 14 years old. ( darya ) questions continue this morning about what caused an emeryville construction site to go up in flames for the second time in less than a year. this is what it looked like saturday morning when the fire ripped through this emeryville construction site which will include 105 apartments and 25 thousand feet of retail space. fire investigators haven't determined a cause in this weekend's fire. firefighters are still putting out hot spots and crews have been removing a mountain of debris. the developer of the construction project says the fire is arson. ( darya ) the developer says he plans to rebuild the construction site for a third time.

there are links between north korea and and the cyber attack that affected computer systems all around the world.( darya ) anny hong is here with more on who may be behind the cyberattacks. anny? ( anny @ land ) experts say earlier versions of the ransomware used in the attack were found on computers linked to a hacking group connected to north korea. they say the computers used to launch the cyber attack last friday were also used in the hack on sony entertainment back in 2014 as well as several european banks. north korea has been blamed for those previous attacks. president trump's homeland security adviser is responding to people who are blaming u-s intelligence agencies for the cyberattack. he says blame the hackers, not the national security agency. cybersecurity experts say the unknown hackers used a hole in microsoft software that was discovered by the n-s-a. that hole was exposed when the n-s-a documents were leaked online. microsoft executives criticized u-s intelligence agencies for "stockpiling" software code

( mark ) president trump is confident that his travel ban will be upheld by an appeals court. the white house says the executive order is completely lawful and they will take the issue all the way up to the supreme court. the comments came as the ninth circuit court of appeals heard arguments yesterday on the executive order in seattle. the judges are being asked to overturn an order blocking president trump's travel ban. there is no word on when a ruling might come down. ( darya ) one of the officers who dragged a united airlines passenger off a flight in april had just finished a suspension when the incident happened. officer james long served a five-day suspension in march for violating department rules. his violations included "inattention to duty," ''incompetence or inefficiency" and several other rules. nine days later, long was one of several department officers who dragged doctor david dao from a flight in chicago. united airlines settled with doctor dao for the incident.

( darya ) four men have pleaded guilty in the hazing death of a new york college student. 18-year-old michael deng died after he was injured in a fraternity ritual on a trip to pennsylvania. prosecutors say the fraternity brothers waited to contact police after deng was injured. four of the fraternity members have pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and concealing evidence. more than 30 other fraternity members are still awaiting court appearances. these guilty pleas also come as 18 men are being charged with the death of a sophomore at penn state who was pledging a fraternity at that school. continues this morning for a gunman who shot two people on an east bay freeway. we first told you about this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news.( darya ) anny hong is here with more on the shooting and what law enforcement is doing to crack down on freeway shootings. anny? ( anny @ land ) it happened just after 9:00 sunday night on a southbound 880 off-ramp in hayward. police say a toyota tacoma was exiting the winton avenue off-ramp when a driver pulled up next to it and shot at the people inside. two people in the back seat were hit in the legs. officers say the shooting was gang-related. there have been more than 100 freeway shootings in the bay area since 2015. and now the state is providing help to crack down on all of the freeway shootings. contra costa county will be getting one and a half million dollars to set up a special surveillance camera network..that uses a shot spotter technology. .

( mark ) the person who tampered with the electrical system of an antioch home that went up in flames could now face criminal charges. firefighters responded to the fire sunday night on blythe drive near shaw circle in antioch. two firefighters were severly shocked because the electrical system in the

home had been tampered with. while fighting the fire, crews were not able to turn off the power to the home. investigators are now trying to determine who modified the electrical system. the firefighers are going to be okay. ( darya ) comedian bill cosby is speaking out about the sexual assault allegations against him. cosby says his accusers could be racially motivated. this is not the first time that cosby has cited racial discrimination as a reason for the allegations. last october his attorneys cited racial bias in a motion filed in a pennsylvania court. later this month jury selection is set to begin in his sexual assault trial. he is accused of drugging and molesting a woman in pennsylvania more than ten years ago. dozens of other women have also accused cosby of sexual assault. he has denied all of the accusations. ( darya ) a former u-c-s-f doctor has pleaded not guilty to child pornography charges. prosecutors say billy lockhart had 15-hundred images and more than 2-hundred videos

of children. police say some of them show infants as young as six- months old. lockhart was arrested last week after an investigation revealed he allegedly used wi-fi at his job to upload the illegal content. he is out of jail after ( mark ) the person accused of breaking into a south bay pre-school and causing thousands of dollars in damage is in custody. police say leticia tavares molina got into the "tomorrow montessori" school on may fourth by breaking a window. officers say she vandalized the school..causing 10-thousand dollars in damage. investigators say molina also stole items from the school. molina was arrested in san jose last friday. she has been charged with burglary and felony vandalism. ( mark ) delta airlines is testing face-scanning kiosks to check your bags. the system uses facial recognition technology to match your identity to your passport photo. you tag your own bags, pay the fee and drop your luggage on a conveyor belt. passengers without passports would still be able to check their own bags, but would need an agent to confirm their identities. delta said the kiosks could allow them to check-in twice as many passengers per hour. the airline says the scanned images will not be stored and the system complies with all privacy laws. delta will begin testing these machines this summer.
