(averi) the case dates back 8 months ago. that's when police say yar-net malihan crashed her car into another car that was stalled on the side of interstate 680 in san ramon. inside that car was a family including 3 year old elijah dunn, his mother, and siblings. elijah was killed instantly in the crash. malihan is being charged with one count gross vehicular manslaughter and one count driving under the influence and causing injury. malihan has a history of substance abuse. last friday--- pleasaton police found her in a ditch around the corner from her home. she was cited for public intoxication. and last june she was arrested for driving while under the influence with her then 10 year old daughter in the car. kron 4 reached out to elijah's family and through a spokesperson, the family said that they are disappoited and saddened that the d-a decided to charge malihan with only felony dui and not charge her with murder. especially in light of malihan's other alcohol and drug related arrests just months before and after

killing elijah. bail has been set at 3 million dollars. ( marty ) a 21- month old boy who was believed to be kidnapped by his father from san francisco, has been found safe in los angeles.... the father, 30-year-old jason lim is accused of trying to kidnap his son makai bangoura. lam and the baby's mother kadidja bangoura share custody of the baby. but on thursday, the mother went to police saying the father wouldn't return makai. that's when police say they issued an amber alert and began the search. the amber alert was deactivated just after eight last night.

hitch. the father was apprehended and the child was recovered safely.>( marty ) authorities say lam was thought to be suicidal at the time of the ( marty ) friends of a man shot and killed in front of a san jose restaurant say they believe he was a vicitm of a drive-by shooting. it happened around 10 thursday night in the area of first street and edwards avenue. police arrived at the wienerschnitzel restaurant and saw a man suffering from a gunshot wound. investigators say this area is known to have high gang activity. they have been talking to witnesses and scanning surveillance camera for any leads. ( marty @ landing ) in national news... president trump is now in saudi arabia. this is the president's first trip outside the united states since he's taken office. the nine day trip comes amid new explosive revelations. the new york times reports president trump told the russians last week that former fbi director james

comey was a "real nut job". and that firing him eased pressure over the russia issue. c-n-n reports that white house lawyers are researching a possible defense against impeachment. and the washington post is reporting that the officials who are investigating russia and the trump campaign have identified a current high ranking white house official as a significant person of interest. kron 4's grant lodes has the details. american press didn't have access to the meeting on may 10, between president donald trump and russian officials sergei lavrov and sergey kislyak....but notes from the meeting, apparently distributed to a number of white house and other government officials, were leaked to the new york times. according to their report, trump told the russians, quote, "i just fired the head of the f-b-i. he was crazy; a real nut job."the other statement from trump in that meeting, according to the new york times, -- quote -- "i faced great pressure because of russia. that's taken off." the times' assessment of that statement: that the firing of comey eased the pressure from

( marty ) we are tracking a troubling crime trend in vallejo. people who live in some neighborhoods say the rate of home burglaries and and car thefts is rising. they tell kron four's philippe djegal they're worred the problem will get even worse. mounting frustration for neighbors living in the vallejo hills off columbus parkway. one man woke up last sunday morning, reviewed his surviellance video and became alarmed when he saw this... what appears to be three hooded teenagers or

young men trying to break into his car. fortunately, the car was locked and the suspects didn't get away with anything. but the same can't be said for the rest of the community. over the weekend, there were at least 15 auto thefts or burglaries. no name/victim- "i believe that they're watching the neighborhood." this man, who wishes to remain private, says his car was stolen a month ago, off knights circle. he turned his car on in the morning, went back inside to grab his bike for a workout... and, the car was no longer on the driveway when he returned.no name/victim- "it was that quick." he says his car was eventually found in sacramento. and, so far, no arrests.no name/victim- "i mean, even though you have a camera, they're not -- they don't really care about the camera, so they're not too scared." retired san quentin state prison correctional officer darleen henley lives around the corner... and, says her car was stolen from outside her house on her birthday darleen henley/victim- "and, my neighbor, they got their house broken into approximately six months ago and the son and aunt was at the house and it was very scary for them" darleen says the theives are not

( marty ) a sigh of relief for hundreds of people living at the buena vista mobile home park in palo alto. it has long been threatened by development, but will not have to move afterall. the santa clara county housing authority has announced that along with the county and the city of palo alto will buy the park for roughly 40-million dollars. the deal will save about 100-units of desperately needed affordable housing. the housing

authority board is expected to finalize the deal next week. ( marty ) the bodies of the santa rosa couple who died in a plane crash last month have been found in sierra county. the bodies of brenda and mark richard were found near yuba pass.. their plane took off from the truckee-tahoe airport on april 17th heading to the north bay. but the small aircraft soon disappeared over the sierra. the sierra county sheriff's office says a citizen spotted their plane earlier this week. their bodies of the richard's were found inside the wreckage. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. ( marty ) the man accused of mowing down people in a crowd and killing an 18-year old in times square entered no plea in his first court appearance. prosecutors say 26-year-old richard rojas had said he wanted to quote "kill them all" and that police should have shot him to stop him. a toxicology report shows rojas had p-c-p in his system and they say he has a history of drunk driving.

( averi @ landing ) family members tell kron four... police saw glenn kaplan at this arco at clayton and ayre road in concord on surveillence footage monday morning. concord p-d says to be on the look out for kaplan's grey toyota camry with a large white hb sticker in the rear window. the 48-year-old has been missing for six days. his family says kaplan left claiming he was off to a meeting but hasn't been back since. they say this is out of character for the father of two. they've been getting the word out, making flyers, and keeping tabs with concord

( marty ) police are looking for the armed thieves who robbed a costco. it is not the first time something like this has happened at the

danville store.. but this time --- one of the robbers fired a gun. kron four's spencer blake has the story. aside from the people who check your costco cardsthere was someone else keeping an eye on things friday."all of the sudden i see security like right at the front door. most of the time i don't see it that much at the front door." the private guard was presumably in response to the second smash-and-grab robbery at the place since may ninth. police say two masked suspects came in working together."one of them acted as a lookout while the other broke open a display case, stole some items out of the case."those items include watches and jewelry. costco and detectives are still working to find out exactly what and how much the bad guys made off with.one of the suspects fired a gun into the air inside the store.a third suspect was waiting in the getaway car - a silver toyota camry that still had paper license plates on it. "apparently another vehicle got in their way. another round was discharged by the same firearm out in the parking lot."nobody got hurt. even hours later, these shoppers, who heard about the activity from someone else in the parking lot, could tell something was a little

his story. like many commuters on bart hamilton cline has his eyes on his phone. but hamilton is closely watching his fellow passengers looking for his next subject. each day he creates a caricature on his phone of those who catch his eye.it is somewhere between cartoons and portraits. which is nice i love doing people's faces it's the thing i find most interesting about people. hamilton teaches computer programing at san francisco's academy of art but his talent for caricature goes back to one of his first forms of employment.i did caricatures at a number of different theme parks for a living.he began his bart sketches on paper. when i started i was only doing pencil.these days i was using a gray marker with a black brush pen.somebody sleeping somebody standing.but then he discovered digital art on his phone.when i got this phone i was finally able to draw wherever i wanted.i chose somebody that looks interesting, gotta look interesting but secondly i look for somebody that isn't

( marty ) we are tracking a troubling crime trend in vallejo. people who live in some neighborhoods say the rate of home burglaries and and car thefts is rising. they tell kron four's philippe djegal they're worred the problem will get even worse. mounting frustration for neighbors living in the vallejo hills off columbus parkway. one man woke up last sunday morning, reviewed his surviellance video and became alarmed when he saw this... what appears to be three hooded teenagers or young men trying to break into his car. fortunately, the car was locked and the suspects didn't get away with anything. but the same can't be said for the rest of the community. over the weekend, there were at least 15 auto thefts or burglaries. no name/victim- "i believe that they're watching the neighborhood." this man, who wishes to remain private, says his car was stolen a month ago, off knights circle. he turned his car on in the morning, went back inside to grab his bike for a

( marty ) a sigh of relief for hundreds of people living at the buena vista mobile home park in palo alto. it has long been threatened by development, but will not have to move afterall. the santa clara county housing authority has announced that along with the county and the city of palo alto will buy the park for roughly 40-million dollars. the deal will save about 100-units of desperately needed affordable housing. the housing authority board is expected to finalize the deal next week. ( marty ) the bodies of the santa rosa couple who died in a plane crash last month have been found in sierra county. the bodies of brenda and mark richard were found near yuba pass.. their plane took off from the truckee-tahoe airport on april 17th heading to the north bay. but the small aircraft soon disappeared over the sierra. the sierra county sheriff's office says a

citizen spotted their plane earlier this week. their bodies of the richard's were found inside the wreckage. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. ( marty ) the man accused of mowing down people in a crowd and killing an 18-year old in times square entered no plea in his first court appearance. prosecutors say 26-year-old richard rojas had said he wanted to quote "kill them all" and that police should have shot him to stop him. a toxicology report shows rojas had p-c-p in his system and they say he has a history of drunk driving. the 18-year-old woman who was killed was visiting new york with her family. she was walking with her 13-year- old sister who was also injured. rojas is due back in court next week. (averi) the case dates back 8 months ago. that's when police say yar-net malihan crashed her car into another car that was stalled on the side of interstate 680 in san ramon. inside that car was a family including 3 year old elijah dunn, his mother, and siblings. elijah was killed instantly in the crash. malihan is

being charged with one count gross vehicular manslaughter and one count driving under the influence and causing injury. malihan has a history of substance abuse. last friday--- pleasaton police found her in a ditch around the corner from her home. she was cited for public intoxication. and last june she was arrested for driving while under the influence with her then 10 year old daughter in the car. kron 4 reached out to elijah's family and through a spokesperson, the family said that they are disappoited and saddened that the d-a decided to charge malihan with only felony dui and not charge her with murder. especially in light of malihan's other alcohol and drug related arrests just months before and after killing elijah. bail has been set at 3 million dollars. find a missing father. they last saw him on mother's day... kron four's averi harper is tracking the story this morning and has more. averi? ( averi @ landing ) family members tell kron four... police saw glenn kaplan at this arco at clayton and ayres ((airs)) road in concord on surveillence footage monday morning. concord p-d says to be on the look out for kaplan's grey toyota camry with a large white hb sticker in the rear window. the 48-year-old has been missing for six days. his family says kaplan left claiming he was off to a meeting but hasn't been back since. they say this is out of character for the father of two. they've been getting the word out, making flyers, and keeping tabs with concord police. social media, he uses his phone to sketch caricatures of other riders. kron four's jeff pierce has his story. like many commuters on bart hamilton cline has his eyes on his phone. but hamilton is closely watching his fellow passengers looking for his next subject. each day he creates a caricature on his phone of those who catch his eye.it is somewhere between cartoons and portraits. which is nice i love doing people's faces it's the thing i find most interesting about people. hamilton teaches computer programing at san francisco's academy of art but his talent for caricature goes back to one of his first forms of employment.i did caricatures at a number of different theme parks for a living.he began his bart sketches on paper. when i started i was only doing pencil.these days i was using a gray marker with a black brush pen.somebody sleeping somebody standing.but then he discovered digital art on his phone.when i got this

american airlines jet as an unruly passenger is duct-taped to a seat while fighter jets scrambled to help land the plane safely. the jet had taken off from los angeles and was headed to hawaii on friday. anil uskanil allegedly tried to storm the cockpit, but a flight attendant used her beverage cart to block his path. passengers say he was pushing the cart, trying to get through. some of the 181 passengers grabbed the 26-year old and eventually duct taped him to a seat. prior to this alleged incident, uskanil was arrested at l-a-x for opening a door that led to an airfield ramp. but then he was cleared to fly. he's expected to face multiple charges.
