(grant) another big story we're tracking tonight... a 22-year-old san jose state university student was found in oregon friday night...after a stranger allegedly kidnapped her from her south bay apartment complex...and made her drive to oregon.(vicki) catherine heenan is here with the latest on the chilling case...which is being investigated by authorities in both california and oregon... (catherine) the woman says she was kidnapped at knife-point friday....taken from her san jose apartmentand forced to drive hundreds of miles in her own car - into oregon.. this map shows the area of southern oregon where she was found about 10-pm friday night..

in coos county oregon she ran out of gas....that's when she says she saw a chance to escape....running and hiding in tall grass for hours. she eventually got to an intersection off highway 101 in the town of bandon...and was picked up by a passing driver. the driver told sheriff's deputies the terrified woman had been running down the road. they later searched for the suspect - but didn't find him. the abduction happened on the eve of her graduation from san jose state....and it was her worried family who called police when she didn't show up to meet them for her big day. the woman is back in the bay area and has been treated for injuries...she says the man whokidnapped her also beat her in the face san jose police are investigating....along with oregon authorities....and the f-b-i has been notified. grant and vicki? (grant) police have lifted a shelter-in-place in san francisco's tenderloin after someone found possible explosives...and tried to turn them in. officials say

that person found the devices and brought them to the police station on eddy street. that's when authorities quickly evacuated the area surrounding the station and people who live in the neighborhood were told to stay inside until further notice. the shelter-in-place lasted about an hour. officers did not say what the possibly explosive devices turned out to be. (vicki) a couple has been convicted in the murder and torture of a 3-year-old girl in napa. 27-year-old sarah krueger and her boyfriend- ryan warner- face 25 years to life in prison for each of the murder and assault charges. kayleigh slusher's body, which had been placed in a freezer, was found in february of 2014 in a suitcase on a bed in an apartment. krueger and warner were arrested the next day at a bart station in el cerrito. the napa county district attorney's office is not seeking the death penalty in this case. closing arguments in the penalty phase of the trial got underway today... and kron four's rob fladeboe is standing by live to tell us about it. rob? (rob live) once again the jury in this case, which found antolin garcia torres guilty of firstdegree murder in the death of sierra lamar, is now going to begin deliberations for a second time. it must decide whether to sentence garcia torres to the death penalty orto life in prison without parole. for closing arguments tuesday, it was deputy district attorney david boyd for the people, he's the man on the left in the grey suit. it would be attorney brian matthews, for the defense, that's him in the darker suit, on right. inside department 40, the prosecution went first. dismissing mitigating

factors such as the poverty, violence and neglect faced by defendant antolin garcia torres as a kid, da boyd said that death is the only fair and just punishment for sierra and her family. the defense in turn telling the jury those mitigating factors should be considered even if they don't explain the crime. matthews imploring the jury to choose life in prison without parole because it's a punishment that never ends and that garcia torres would then die in prison. steven clark/legal analyst " what the prosecution is trying to show is that the fact that there is no body has been especially cruel for the family and that garcia torres does not deserve any mercy from the jury because he didn't show any mercy toward sierra lamar and her family..." verdict - in the murder trial of three santa clara county jail guards accused of beating a mentally ill inmate to death. the jury began deliberations last week. michael tyree was found dead in his cell with a ruptured spleen at san jose's main jail in 20-15. jereh lubrin, rafael rodriguez and matthew farris are the deputies who could face life in prison if convicted. they are also facing charges connected to the beating of a second mentally ill inmate... on the same night. defense attorneys say tyree died when he slipped and landed on the corner of a sink. a verdict is likely to be released sometime tomorrow. statements have begun in the trial of a man accused of killing two employees in a jewelry store in san francisco's soma neighborhood in 2013. 27-year-old barry white faces 16 felony charges after police say he shot and stabbed 2 employees to death and seriously injured the store owner. officers say the violence was sparked by an argument over the price of a piece of jewelry. one of the victims was nearly beheaded. after killing the 2 employees, officers say white went outside and shot at officers before surrendering when he ran out of ammunition. white has pleaded not guilty to the crimes. (grant) another big story we are tracking tonight at five... the pentagon says it has ásuccessfully - shot down a mock warheard over the pacific. the test was the first of its kind in nearly three years. and it was the first test ever targeting an intercontinent al-range missile like the ones north korea is said to be developing. officials launched a test missile from the marshall islands and used sensors to track its movement.

(grant) zero tolerance policy for bullying. that's what some parents and students in the san ramon valley unified school district are calling for after a recent incident at san ramon valley high school......involving a student video taping a classmate who was using the restroom. although the student was arrested for invasion of privacy, the student was allowed to return to school after a short suspension. this is the latest in a string controversial incidents in the school district...dating back to 2016 that some view as bullying, racially insensitive and islamaphobic.

investigating - a dozen vehicle burglaries that happened yesterday at three different bart stations. (vicki) kron four's will tran - reports now from the millbrae bart station where at least nine of those burglaries took place. bart police are still searching for the suspects.at the millbrae station ... officers slowly patrol the parking structure a day after 9 cars at this location were burglarized many didn't hear about it until we told them.

(grnat) we are following breaking news out of orlando... a spokeswoman for the orlando international airport says authorities are responding to a report of an armed man in the rental car area. spokeswoman carolyn fennell tells the orlando sentinel that law enforcement officers are on the scene tuesday night. the airport tweeted that the area had been contained and there was minimal impact to operations.fennell didn't immediately respond to a message left by the associated press. police referred calls to the spokeswoman.earlier this year, authorities say an alaska man killed a baggage claim lauderdale-hollywood airport.

(grant) dallas police are praising a group of people who helped a critically injured officer... this all happened yesterday afternoon - when senior corporal dale ordogne was responding to a call... when suddenly - a stolen pickup crossed an intersection and struck his patrol car, sending it into a 30-foot decent. the car landed upside down in a creek... that's when about ten people who witnessed the incident rushed to to officer ordogne's aid. video shows the good samaritans then flip the patrol car onto its side... in an effort to free the injured officer. reporter:"why risk your life to jump in and help a stranger?"richard robertson, helped injured officer:"it's a police officer! he helps me. everybody needs help. officer: "to me the greatest difference was... we could have lost another officer at southwest yesterday and i am very thankful for the citizens and

(grant) a mother in utah is accused of locking her two young kids in the trunk of her car while she shopped at walmart. another shopper heard the kids screams and helped the children get out. the woman was able to guide the little girls to an emergency latch inside the trunk. when the 2- year-old and 5-year-old emerged.. they were sweating from the heat. "both kids came out like jump, spring-loaded they just jumped out at us; one lady took the two year old, i took the five year old." the women waited for police. that's when the children's mother, later identified as 39-year old tori castillo, surfaced from the

(vicki) a statue placed at the feet of the "fearless girl" sculpture situated in front of the wall street bull, is causing controversy. "fearless girl" was installed in march by a financial firm as a statement about the lack of women on the boards of big u.s. corporations. it faces the famous "charging bull" statue. artist alex gardega believes the fearless girl sculpture is disrespectful to the artist who created the bull statue- arturo di modica. di modica has said in the past that the girl sculpture turned his work of art into something negative. gardega created a statue of a peeing pug and placed it at the feet of the girl. the pug has since been removed after people tried to damage it. c-h-p rescue teams airlifted her...and say...the way she landed...probably saved her life. the rescue was captured on camera from the helicopter. c-h-p says the woman went over the ledge at luther rock, an advanced hiking spot near south lake tahoe. she fell after her dog slipped off. they both tumbled 30-feet. she landed on her back in the bushes. the woman also suffered injuries to her ankle and shoulder. both her and her dog are doing fine. ( pam ) a gunman is on the loose right now at the airport in orlando... and there are reports of shots being fired. good evening... i'm pam moore.( steve ) and i'm steve aveson. this is a story that came into the kron 4 newsroom just about 30 minutes ago. this is a live look at the airport... you can see all the flashing police lights. we are told the gunman was in the rental car area... but there are few other details available. the airport put out a tweet saying the "area had been contained." you may recall earlier this year a man killed five people inside the baggage claim area at the airport in fort lauderdale. when we learn more we will bring it to you. (pam) jury deliberations are to begin now.... following the conclusion of closing arguments in the penalty phase of the case, as kron four's rob fladeboe reports. for closing arguments tuesday, it was deputy district attorney david boyd for the people, he's the man on the left in the grey suit. it would be attorney brian matthews, for the defense, that's him in the darker suit, on right. inside department 40, the prosecution went first. dismissing mitigating factors such as the poverty, violence and neglect faced by defendant antolin garcia torres as a kid, da boyd said that death is the only fair and just punishment for sierra and her family. the defense in turn telling the jury those mitigating factors should be considered even if they don't explain the crime. matthews imploring the jury to choose life in prison without parole because it's a punishment that never ends and that garcia torres would then die in prison. steven
