51-year-old earnest howard. police say he was hit in the southbound lane of the columbus parkway and thrown into the northbound lane. the driver left the scene. right now police do not have a description of the car. they are still trying to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. ( james ) a plane heading to s-f-o from j-f-k airport in new york had to be diverted to michigan after a laptop caught fire. this happened last night. officials say a lithium computer battery malfunctioned. people noticed smoke coming from a bag holding someone's laptop. the fire was put out before the plane landed. no one was hurt. u-s secretary john kelly says he's contemplating expanding a ban on laptops in carry on luggage to all international flights. right now, electronic devices larger than cell phones are banned from the cabin on flights bound for the united states from 10 airports in the middle east and africa. ( james @ bam ) just days after child took a terrible tumble off a brand new water slide in dublin... there are questions about if the slide ever should have opened in the first place. there is investigation underway to figure out what went wrong on

the three story slide. kron four's justine waldman has an update. the 10 year old boy walked away with just scratchesafter he twistted and flipped over the side of the emerald plunge slide at the brand new the wave water park.sot it is disconcerting to say the least that this occurredcalosha is leading the investigation into why the boy was ejected.. and landed on the concrete. spokesperson erika monterroza tells me.. reports indicating ponding is to blame as to why the boy hydroplaned .. are premature.sot we are def looking at the water levels at the bottom of the trouf the configuration of the slide and of course that was reviewed before the slide opened toothe $43 million dollar water park in dublin had its grand opening on saturday.but before the slide had to pass a series of strict tests.a report from a calosha inspection in april showed the plunge.. was in need of repair and lacking the required documentation.. .the slide had

( james ) the city of oakland has reached a settlement in the o-p-d sex scandal. the city council voted early this morning to pay jasmine abuslin... formerly known as celeste guap... nearly a million dollars. abuslin claimed she was victimized and exploited by oakland police officers when she was under age. the investigation led oakland to go through three police chiefs. four current or former officers are also facing charges in the scandal. abuslin was originally looking for 66- million dollars. oakland's city attorney recommended that the city settle for just under a million dollars. she has also field claims against richmond, livermore and san francisco. ( james ) police confirm that a man who was shot and killed by officers in vacaville was unarmed. it happened monday morning when police discovered a honda civic was stolen from davis. police say they tried to

pull the car over but it took off. the chase began on interstate-80 and ended at the retail outlets. shortly after the car came to a halt shots were fired, killing the suspect. police have not identified the man involved. district approved a measure to put lights on the athletic fields at san marin high school. the move will cost the district more than a million dollars. however, some parents and students are not on board. kron four's j-r stone explains. hundreds of students and parents packed into the gym at san marin high school tuesday night in novato. this as the school board decided on whether or not to install lights on their athletic fields.sot and i saw go for itthese nimby's.not in my backyard are everywhere but i say yes lets support the yimby's.yes in my backyardthe plan would cost the district 1.2 million dollars. plus an additional 250-thousand dollars for a new p.a. system. neighbors who live nearby say

a gunman at the orlando airport was attempting to commit suicide by cop. there was a massive police response last night. dozens of people were evacuated. police say the 26-year-old man did not have a real gun, only a replica. some flights were delayed during the nearly three-hour standoff. a crisis negotiator was able to get the man to surrender. ( james ) two undercover police operations here in the bay area have led to dozens of people being charged with prostitution related crimes. officers working in the south bay and east bay say that both men and women have been cited. kron four's charles clifford has the story. according to the san jose police department a total of 27 adults were cited for prostitution related offenses between may 23rd and may 27th. the san jose police department's metro unit conducted the undercover operation here near oak street and 1st street. the operation targeted both prostitutes and johns. undercover officers solicited dates from suspected prostitutes and female

officers posed as prostitutes in a reverse john decoy operation. in all, 6 women were issued citations for engaging in prostitution and 21 men were charged with criminal soliciting of a prostitute.none of the suspects are believed to be involved in human trafficking. police do say that one person was cited for possession of cocaine.of the male suspects, 18 are residents of san jose and two live in santa clara county.also, on tuesday, the hayward police department announced that 9 men have been arrested and cited for soliciting prostitution in hayward. all of the suspects were arrested after responding to an online ad and agreeing to meet undercover officers posing as prostitutes at a hayward motel.in san jose, charles clifford kron 4 news. ( darya ) san jose police say a san jose state university student lied about being kidnapped and forced to drive 500- miles north to oregon. we reported last night that the woman was found running along a road near bandon, oregon. the 22- year- old told police she was kidnapped at knifepoint and the man told her to drive. she said her car eventually ran out of gas. police now say she has admitted making the whole story up. ( mark ) an east bay community is mourning again after two more young lives were lost. the two teenagers who died in this crash on memorial day in alameda went to school in the

new haven unified school district in union city. the 17-year olds have been identified as brianna ortega and simon sotelo. these deaths come after three other students in the district died recently. one of those tragedies, just a few weeks ago on mothers day. counselors were brought in to help students and staff members. 7 people were inside the truck at the time of the accident. police say speed is likely what caused the crash. ( mark ) police confirm that a man who was shot and killed by officers in vacaville was unarmed. it happened monday morning when police discovered a honda civic was stolen from davis. police say they tried to pull the car over but it took off. the chase began on interstate-80 and ended at the retail outlets. shortly after the car came to a halt shots were fired, killing the suspect. police have not identified the man involved. ( darya ) dozens of people are being charged with prostitution related crimes after two undercover stings in the bay area. police arrested 27 people in san jose between may 23rd and the 27th. undercover officers solicited dates from suspected

( darya ) breaking news we are following this morning. dozens of people killed and hundreds injured after an explosion in afghanistan. anny hong is at the breaking news desk with the details. anny. (anny) the explosion happened early this morning near the u-s and german embassies in the city of kabul. at least 80 people were killed and 300 injured. this is new video the scene just into the kron 4 newsroom this morning. afghan officials say the death toll is expected to rise. officials say this is supposed to be a highly secure diplomatic area of the city. police say the blast was the result of a suicide bomber who packed explosives into a car. a spokesman for the american embassy issued a statement saying the u-s embassy did not appear to be the target. investigators say the explosion happened during the morning rush hour. so far nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack. we will continue to follow the latest out of afghanistan and bring you updates as they come into the newsroom. back to you. .

( mark ) in the north bay... despite protests from some neighbors, the novato school district approved a measure to install lights on its athletic fields at san marin high school. it was approved late last night during a meeting at the high school. putting up the lights will cost the district over a million dollars, plus an additional 250-thousand dollars for a new p-a system. while a majority of the crowd was in favor of the lights, some neighbors who live nearby felt the money should be spent in the classroom, not on the sports fields. ( mark ) the latest those lights will stay on is until 9:00 at night for football games. ( darya ) a couple has been convicted in the murder and torture of a 3-year-old girl in napa. 27-year-old

this comes after a recent incident at san ramon valley high school involving a student video taping a classmate who was using the restroom. although the student was arrested for invasion of privacy, that student was allowed to return to school after a short suspension. this is the latest in a string controversial incidents in the school district...dating back to last year including racist graffiti on bathroom walls. some view the incidents as bullying, racially insensitive and islamaphobic. ( darya ) the district superintendent and the school board released a statement saying that they are committed to protecting the students and that they have policies in place that

( mark ) a man and his husband say they are traumatized... after one of the men was raped in a sacramento park restroom. steven clouse... who has autism and cerebral palsy was at the park when he says he was attacked. he says four guys came up to him...and started exposing themselves. he says he tried to ignore them... hoping they would go away but they never did. he says they then followed him into a restroom... pulled out a knife and sexually assaulted him. sacramento police say they are investigating but so far they have not made any arrests. ( mark ) former national security adviser michael flynn says he will provide ásome of the documents requested by the senate intelligence committee. flynn initially refused to comply with senate subpoenas. but flynn negotiated a deal with senators, who agreed to ask for fewer documents. flynn will still provide all documents related to his business, but only some of his personal ones. he was facing a deadline yesterday set by senators looking into russian interference in the u-s election. the first batch of documents will be handed over to them by june

( mark ) the government is accusing united airlines of flying an unsafe plane. the f-a-a wants to fine united airlines for operating an airplane that was not in good condition. united mechanics replaced a fuel pump pressure switch on one of the planes back in 2014. but the f-a-a says that united did not complete a required inspection of the repair before the plane resumed flying. it says united flew the aircraft on 23 domestic and international flights before the inspection was performed. united says it took action after being notified about the issue. the f-a-a is proposing a 435-thousand dollar fine against the airline.

( mark ) a northern california man faces hate crime and other charges following an attack in clearlake. police arrested anthony hammond over the weekend following a standoff. hammond is accused attacking a black man with a machete after yelling racial slurs. the victim survived the attack but is not being identified. hammond reportedly threatened to kill a police officer and his family while being taken to jail. ( darya ) a texas family is considering a lawsuit after their son was labeled "ugly" in the school yearbook. steven seal's yearbook picture has an arrow pointing at it with a quote calling him ugly. it is just one of several offensive comments which made it into the 20-17 yearbook at

( darya ) just days after child flew off a brand new water slide in dublin... there are questions about whether the slide should have ever opened in the first place. ( mark ) kron 4's averi harper is live outside the park in dublin this morning with the latest on the investigation. averi. ( averi )the water slide here at the wave park in dublin remains closed while investigators try to figure out what caused a boy to be ejected from a water slide. take a look at this shocking video. it happened in saturday shortly after the park opened. you see a 10 year old boy sent flying off over the side of the emerald plunge slide and onto the concrete.that boy miraculously walked away with only scratches and it expected to be okay. cal osha is taking the lead on the investigation. before the slide opened, it had to meet several requirements and pass numerous tests. documents reveal that

few weeks ago on mothers day. counselors were brought in to help students and staff members. 7 people were inside the truck at the time of the accident. police say speed is likely what caused the crash. ( darya ) police confirm that a man who was shot and killed by officers in vacaville was unarmed. it happened monday morning when police discovered a honda civic was stolen from davis. police say they tried to pull the car over but it took off. the chase began on interstate-80 and ended at the retail outlets. shortly after the car came to a halt shots were fired, killing the suspect. police have not identified the man involved. ( mark ) dozens of people are being charged with prostitution related crimes after two undercover stings in the bay area. police arrested 27 people in san jose between may 23rd and the 27th. undercover officers solicited dates from suspected prostitutes and female officers posed as prostitutes in a reverse "john" decoy operation. none of the

people arrested are believed to be involved in human trafficking. in the east bay... hawayrd police say they arrested nine men in a prostitution sting. the operation happened back in april. the men responded to an online ad and agreed to meet prostitutes at a hayward motel who turned out to be undercover police officers. ( mark ) in the north bay... despite protests from some neighbors, the novato school district approved a measure to install lights on its athletic fields at san marin high school. it was approved late last night during a meeting at the high school. putting up the lights will cost the district over a million dollars, plus an additional 250-thousand dollars for a new p-a system. while a majority of the crowd was in favor of the lights, some neighbors who live nearby felt the money should be spent in the classroom, not on the sports fields. ( mark ) happening today... police are holding a community meeting to discuss safety concerns after a deadly stabbing at a san francisco park. the attacker is still on the loose this morning. 33-year-old giovanny alvarez was stabbed and killed last thursday at bernal heights park. police have released few details about the stabbing, but they do not believe it was a random attack. police are expected to share what is known about the murder and discuss community safety issues at the meeting. it starts at 6:00 tonight at the bernal heights neighborhood center. ( darya ) police arrested a preschool teacher's aide accused of stabbing a man to death in san francisco. that is according to the associated press. the stabbing happened early monday morning in san francisco's outer misison neighborhood. 52-year-old lyris wolfe was arrested near the scene of the crime. 45-year-old aaron johnson was killed. wolfe was a teacher's aide at the

(anny) the explosion happened early this morning near the u-s and german embassies in the city of kabul. at least 80 people were killed and 300 injured. this is new video the scene just into the kron 4 newsroom this morning. afghan officials say the death toll is expected to rise. officials say this is supposed to be a highly secure diplomatic area of the city. police say the blast was the result of a suicide bomber who packed explosives into a car. a spokesman for the american embassy issued a statement saying the u-s embassy did not appear to be the target. investigators say the explosion happened during the morning rush hour.. a time when the streets were packed with commuters. many civilians may have died in the attack. . so far

( darya ) the tennessee teacher charged with fleeing the state with a 15-year-old student pleaded not guilty in federal court. 50-year-old tad cummins is charged with taking a minor across state lines for sex, and obstruction of justice. cummins and his former student, elizabeth thomas disapeared in march, and were found 39 days later outside a cabin near redding. cummins' layers argued in a preliminary hearing that thomas went with him willingly. he faces 10 years to life in prison.

( will ) the long running trial of the man convicted in murder of sierra lamar is nearing an end. closing arguments in the penalty phase of the trial got underway yesterday. attorneys for garcia- torres asked the jury to show him mercy by sentencing him to life in prison without parole. the prosecution argues that the death penalty is the only fair and just sentence for sierra lamar and her family.

( mark ) a man and his husband say they are traumatized... after one of the men was raped in a sacramento park restroom. steven clouse... who has autism and cerebral palsy was at the park when he says he was attacked. he says four guys came up to him...and started exposing themselves. he says he tried to ignore them... hoping they would go away but they never did. he says they then followed him into a restroom... pulled out a knife and sexually assaulted him. sacramento police say they are investigating but so far they have not made any arrests. we're coming up on 6:45... here's a quick look at the top stories we're following this morning... the city of oakland has reached a settlement in the o-p-d sex scandal. the city council voted to pay jasmine abuslin... formerly known as celeste guap... nearly a million dollars. abuslin claimed she was victimized and exploited by oakland police officers when she was under age.( darya ) there is investigation underway to figure out what went wrong on the three story water slide in dublin. cal-osha is leading the investigation into why a 10- year-old boy was ejected. cal-osha did an inspection in april before the park opened and say the slide had a total of 17 problems.
