phone. the chp says this all started at around 10-am this morning when the man's truck was spotted, stopped on the bridge. one our bridge tow truck drivers just came on the scene and he was driving westbound just have to see a red pick up truck broken down in the far left lane when he pulled in behind the motorist just climbed out of this truck jumped over the railing and i climbed up to the center anchorage. he tried to make contact with him but the man up top didn't want anything to do with him(vicki) the unidentified man was taken into custody at around 1 p-m. he is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. he could be charged with resisting arrest and obstructing traffic. phase. the jury is set to return tomorrow. prosecutors painted a picture of a cold-blooded killing while the defense argued garcia-torres had a broken childhood. (grant) tonight the jury has yet to reach a verdict in the murder trial of three santa clara county jail guards accused of beating a mentally ill inmate to death. the jury began deliberations last week. michael tyree was found dead in his cell with a ruptured spleen back in 20-15. jereh lubrin, rafael rodriguez and matthew farris are the deputies who could face life in prison if convicted. they are also facing charges connected to the beating of a second mentally ill inmate... on the same night. police in vallejo are looking for a suspected hit-and-run driver who killed a man... it happened around 9:30 last night on columbus parkway north of tennessee street. police say 51-year old earnest howard attempted to cross the street and was hit by a vehicle and thrown to the other side of the road. the driver then took off. when officers arrived they found howard unresponsive in the street... officers are working to determine if alcohol, drugs or any distractions contributed to the accident. (grant) a new kind of locker room is making it's way to u-c berkeley... the university plans to build a gender-inclusive locker room at its campus gym. the locker room is expected to open next year and it will include private changing rooms, showers, lockers and bathrooms stalls. it will also serve as a gender-neutral access point to the campus swim facility. the locker room will cost 2-point-seven million dollars and it is being funded thanks to a new student fee....aimed at creating more equitable health services. (grant) an update now - to a story we first brought to you yesterday on kron four news at five. san jose police say a san jose state university student lied about being kidnapped...she had said she was forced to drive 500- miles north to oregon. we reported last night that the woman was found running along a road near bandon, oregon. the 22- year- old told police she was kidnapped at knifepoint and the man told her to drive. she said her car eventually ran out of gas. police now say she has admitted making the whole story up.

(vicki) in the east bay... two children escaped a rollover collision "without a scratch" this morning. this is the s-u-v the youngsters were pulled out of. it happened around eight a- m on san ramon valley boulevard near morgan drive. authorities say one of the vehicles was trying to make a left turn across traffic when it was struck by an oncoming vehicle. one of those vehicles hit a curb causing it to rollover. police are calling the incident a "powerful example of the importance of properly installed child car seats." (grant) new details tonight.... about the events they led up to a child being thrown from an slide at a water park in the east bay. as kron four's averi harper reports, the slide at the wave park in dublin.... remains closed tonight while investigators try to figure out what caused a boy to be ejected from a water slide. take a look at this shocking video. it happened in saturday shortly after the park opened. you see a 10 year old boy sent flying off over the side of the emerald plunge slide and onto the concrete.that boy

miraculously walked away with only scratches and it expected to be okay. cal osha is taking the lead on the investigation. before the slide opened, it had to meet several requirements and pass numerous tests. documents reveal that there were initially 17 problems with the slide.a couple included sharp fencing, exposed bolts and other issues. each had to be remedied before the slide could open. i spoke to people about if this incident will keep them from visiting the park."it was scary but at the same time also it seems like the boy was ok with a little bit of injury so that's great i don't know if i would do that i would just tell them to be careful. although he fell off it they did say only scraped his knee so so it's not that bad in my opinion."the manufacturer says a company engineer will be working with water park staff to figure out why this all happened. in dublin, averi harper, kron 4 news.

(grant) happening tonight... police are holding a community meeting to discuss safety concerns after a deadly stabbing at a san francisco park. 33-year-old giovanny alvarez was stabbed and killed last thursday at bernal heights park. the suspect remains at large. police have released few details about the stabbing, but they do not believe it was a random attack. police are expected to

share what is known about the murder and discuss community safety issues at the meeting. it starts at 6:00 tonight at the bernal heights neighborhood center... located on cortland avenue. (grant) scary moments for passengers on board a jet-blue flight last night when a battery caught on fire. the f-a-a says it was a lithium battery that caught on fire on the flight from san francisco to new york. passengers and crew noticed smoke coming from a backpack that contained that battery and other gear. flight attendants quickly put the backpack into a container and rushed it to the back of the plane where they put the fire out. the battery burned through the backpack and left marks on the floor. (vicki) and the proposed laptop ban - on flights entering or leaving the united states is gaining momentum. however, the airline industry says it is also looking into alternatives... so that airline passengers can keep their laptops with them at all times... instead of having to check them.

this is the scene around 1 pm this afternoon....after sfpd crisis negotiators were able to talk the distraught man down from his precarious perch on top of the center anchorage of the western span of the bay bridge ....he climbed down the ladder....and hopped down into a crowd of first responders waiting him out.but for nearly three hours before that two lanes on the upper deck were shut down slowing traffic to a crawl westbound....the backup stretching beyond the eastern span.the chp says this all started after 10am when a tow truck driver spotted the man's red truck disabled on the bridgethe vehicle was broken down he was stopped in the lane his hood was up and when the tow truck driver came on him that's when he climbed out for some reason i decided to climb up on top of center anchorage chp officers were first to arrive to try and talk him down.we asked if we could come up but he said essentially that if we did t he would jump off the bridge so we gave him a talking to eventually he did give us a cell phone number sfpd officers with specialized crisis intervention training eventually took over and were able to talk to man into climbing back down to safety. when asked if the bridge could be made more secure....the chp public information officer said they are always reviewing the (steve) one chapter of the sex scandal that rocked several bay area police departments is closed as the woman at the center of it all... agreed to a settlement with one city. an update on story we told you about yesterday on kron four news at six. san jose police say a 22-year-old woman who said she was kidnapped and forced to drive to oregon... made up the story. the woman was found friday night running along a road near highway 101 in bandon, oregon. she had said she was kidnapped earlier in the day at knife point outside her san jose apartment. the woman was suppose to graduate from san jose state the next day. police interviewed when she came back to town and say she admitted the kidnapping was a hoax. ( steve ) an oakland man is dead after diving for abalone this weekend in mendocino county. 58-year-old steve nguyen was diving at bowling ball beach at point arena on saturday. the sheriff's office says something went wrong and friends had to pull him out of the water. the tried to revive him but nguyen died on the beach. the coroner is
