(catherine) the president made it clear today that politics, not science, was behind his decision to withdraw from the paris agreement,
5:01 pm
"i was elected to represent the citizens of pittsburgh, not paris."the eiffel tower was lit up in green as then president obama and other world leaders met to sign the agreement .in november of 2015. it set a target of limiting global warming to three point six degrees farenheit by 2025. the u=s and outher countries pledged to cut thei output of greenhouse gasses by up to 28 percent.and the u=s pledged three billion dollars to a fundto help developing countries develop clean energy sources.president trump took that money off the table today. "at what point does america get demeaned, at what point do they start laughing at us as a country? we want fair treatment for its citizens, and we want fair treatment for our taxpayers. we don't want other leaders and other countries laughing at us any more. and they won't be."the president said his decision will mean more jobs ... particularly in the coal industry"and i happen to love the coal miners"critics say the pullout will dramatically undermine the efforts to fight global warming by reducing

(catherine) the president says he's willing to talk about a new climate dealon terms more favorable to the u=s. france, germany and italy have all rejected the idea of a renegotiation. grant and vicki? (grant) former president barack obama also releasing a statement... saying... "the nations that remain in the paris agreement will be the nations that reap the benefits in jobs and industries created. i believe the united states of america should be at the front of the pack. but even in

(vicki) a third day of deliberations has come and gone... as the jury in the sierra lamar trial has not yet
5:16 pm
reached a verdict in the penalty phase of the case. (grant) kron four's rob fladeboe has an analysis of what may may be going on that jury room. rob? one might think that since the jury deliberated a bit less than two days before finding antolin garcia torres guilty of 1st degree murder, it might also deliver swift justice in deciding on his punishment. but this time around the jury might be hung up on the toughest decision anyjury can be asked to make says legal analyst steven clark. ".....because this decision is so difficult and fraught with so many moral questions at a fundamental level, it is possible it could result in a hung jury because some jurors might not be comfortable, particularly with the fact that there is no body, with returning a death verdict...." clark says there is a possibility some jurors might be holding out over what the defense in the penalty phase of the trial characterized as "lingering doubt" about some of the evidence or are inclined to show sympathy toward garcia torres after hearing about the poverty and other hardships he faced as a kid.steven clark/legal analyst
5:17 pm
" the jury stated at the outset that it was accepting of the death penalty. you'll recall how quickly it reached a verdict of fist degree murder with the special circumstance for kidnapping. so the question is, did the defense do enough to suggest that they should show mercy toward garcia torres even though the d.a. says he showed no mercy to sierra lamar..." (vicki) and the jury has adjourned for the weekend. deliberations in the penalty phase for convicted killer antolin garcia-torres - will resume on monday.
