alameda countys district attorney on who they believe is to blame for all of those lives lost back in december when the ghost ship warehouse erupted in flames killing 36 people, and injuring dozens. nancy o'malley, alameda co. district attorney. "derick almena and max harris. knowing created a fire threat, the inadequately prevented an escape, filled the area with human beings and now they are facing consequences of actions." o'malley says a special team examined six thousand reports, served 12 search warrants, interviewed 75 witnesses and reviewed 300 pieces of evidence. she says over the span of several years, the two - derick almena shown here - who leased the warehouse and max harris who was the creative director in charge of the space allowed the warehouse to be illegally transformed. 29:25 o'malley.

today in lake county harris in la, they will eventually be brought here in to alameda for an arraginment, both are facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. in a statement released - almena's attorney says their investigation has revealed that almenda did not commit any criminal neglgience and that he is a held out as a scapegoat (vicki) it's been just over six months since that deadly warehouse fire took the lives of 36 people. many of the victims were young adults just starting out. kron4's maureen kelly got reaction to the criminal charges from the mother of one of the victims who died, who is speaking publicly for the first time since the loss

of her son. .it brought everything again....memories came flooding inmary vega didn't want her face to appear on camera...for fear of becoming too emotional.she's the mother of 22 year old alex vega who you see on the right in this photo.on the left is alex's longtime girlfriend, 20 year old michaela gregory. who also died in the ghostship warehouse fire.mary says she got a call from the d-a's office this morning, letting them know about the arrest of derrick almena and max harris. after she got off the phone she went to the cemetary i just wanted to be with my son six months after the deadly blaze, she says she was hit with many emotions about criminal charges being filed today.banger sadness...i dont' want to be angry it's not going to bring him back. i think what it mostly is sadness.i want to see justice done.i want someone to say i'm sorryit's not going to happen but i want someone to say i'm sorry mrs vega that you lost your son.mary vega has not been visit the the warehouse where her son and his girlfriend lost their lives....nor has she visited the memorials in oakland

(rob live) after deliberating for about 16 hours over the course of several days, the jury rejected the prosecutions argument that antolin garcia torres deserves the death penalty. instead, in a unanimous decision, they sent the killer of sierra lamar to prison for life without the possibility of parole. jeff rosen/district attorney "today the jury decided the fate of a child murderer.... outside the courthouse after antolin garcia torres had just avoided the death penalty, district attorney jeff rosen telling reporters that the less said about garcia torres the betterjeff rosen" the jury made it so he will die in prison and never take another breath as a free man..."garcia torres had no obvious reaction to the verdict. the decision was unanimous. the jury rejected the prosecutions call to show him no mercy because he showed none to sierra lamar. in closing arguments,

accused of planning the unpermitted party... the attorney representing the victims' families says the men "created a death trap." torneys for warehouse operator derick almena say that their client is being made a scapegoat... calling the charges a "miscarriage of justice." each defendant could face up to 39 years in prison if convicted. grant? (grant) the man convicted in the murder of sierra lamar...learned his fate today. antolin garica- torres... will spend the rest of his life in prison...withou t the possibility of parole. a jury made the decision just a few hours ago in san

(vicki) a warning tonight after two mountain lion sightings... in the same neighborhood on the penninsula. the first incident was reported around 9:30 saturday night... in san carlos in the area of crestview drive. about two hours later... another sighting. kron four's lydia pantazes brings us more details. two mountain lion sightings on saturday night in san carlos were reported to the san mateo county sheriff's office. the first sighting was at about 9:40 p.m. when the driver of a vehicle said she saw a mountain lion cross in front of her. sheriff's officials said that the cat crossed from east to west on crestview drive just north of melendy drive. a second sighting occurred about two hours later in the 3300 block of brittan avenue where a resident said he saw a mountain lion standing on a hillside northeast of his carport. anyone who encounters a mountain lion should not run, but face the

cat, make noise and try to look bigger by waving their arms and throw rocks or other objects. (grant) early this morning -- a man opened fire in an orlando factory killing five of his former co-workers before turning the gun on himself. police say the 45-year-old gunman targeted his victims and there was bad blood with one of them. eight others were able to escape the rampage. police have identified the bodies of the

made history by becoming the oldest woman to run a half marathon.(vicki) harriette thompson finished the rock-n-roll half marathon yesterday in san diego. this isn't the first time the two-time cancer survivor and grandmother has set records. in 2015...she became the oldest person ever to finish a full marathon at the age of 92. thompson admits record setting is not what has kept her going, but raising money for cancer research. (vicki) she has raised more than 115-thousand dollars from running marathons for cancer research. (catherine) london police have released photos and names of two suspects insaturday's attack in london.... a 27-year-old man name khuram butt...a british citizen born in pakistan.and a 30-year-old named rachid redouane....who had claimed both moroccan and libyan nationality. they're two of the three suspects in the knife and van attack on and around london bridge -- that left 7 people dead. investigators are still trying to determine the identity of a third suspect.
