great granchild is now being tested for hiv and hepatitis. he's upset because he said he didn't get the call from the school about this until early this week.bad part about it the school knew about it a week ago before they called. they waited too long before calling. they should have called notified the parents immediately when they known they had been struck with a needle.he asked papa am i gonna die? he said naaa you'll be alright. this happened at cabrillo elementary school in fremont. bryan is the name of that great grandfather's great grandson. he's eight and told his family that the boy poked him in the arm withth abetic la draw blood. this is a device that was found in the street at the school near the bus turnaround. a diabetic lancet looks similar to an epipen obviously used for different

conditions. all 14 kids who were poked are getting blood tests. bryan's family is very concerned and says they are awaiting the results.it's scary to think that he done got poked by a dirty needle at school at bryan's age 8 years old and a kid gets struck with a dirty needle. you have to be very concerned because you don't know what that needle has in it. that is how hiv gets spread with a dirty needle.the district says a student and employee here at the school are both diabetic but both have confirmed the lancet was not theirs. the student who was pokiong people has been disciplined according to the district. live in fremont, j.r. stone kron 4 news. thomas walked up to a two- year-old boy and put the drug in his mouth monday afternoon at people's park in berkeley. officers arrested thomas and initially sent her to a psychiatric hospital. but later booked her into the santa rita jail that's where police say she attacked a deputy during the booking process. deputies say that's happened before. thomas was still on probation for attacking three deputies back in 2014. berkeley police say the boy is out of the hospital. ( james ) happening today... one of the two men charged in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire will make his first court appearance. derick almena will be arraigned in alameda county. he was the man in charge of the warehouse when it went up in flames last december. 36 people died in the fire. almena is charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. if convicted he faces up to 39 years in prison. ( james ) now to the dubs... the warriors are on the verge of history. they are still undefeated this postseason after a thrilling game three victory against the

residents who say speeding is a big problem in their neighborhood. 41 year old jason gibson and his dog were struck and killed late tuesday night.just before 11, the chp responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on port of chicago highway at lake view road.(rachelle gandaro/lives nearby): i was coming down port of chicago from 7/11. and i see two cops, you know, just speeding. and i come over here and i see the guy on the ground. they're just working on him. he was just laying there it was really sad.gibson and the dog were pronounced dead on the scene.(rachelle gandaro/lives nearby): i didn't know he had a dog with him until later. my friends, my neighbors stopped and asked police. tjey said that the dog was you know, with him. and they both were hit and killed... there were some people around him. just a lot of police cars and medics. it's sad because a lot of people speed through this area. and peoplealk on this highway you know and its dark.

are known to be protective of their pups and behave aggressively toward other canines during pupping season. the trails are set to reopen to dogs in august or september after pupping season ends. ( james ) a man has been arrested accused of running a fraudulent disabled parking placard scheme. police say montana le forged a doctor's signature to apply for the placards. and then allegedly sold them. sometimes for one thousand dollars a piece. if convicted he could face up to 4 years in prison. kron 4's charles clifford spoke with a disabled rights advocate.... who says these type of prolbmes put an added burden on those who need the placards. marilyn golden is a policy

analyst for the disability rights education and defense fund in berkeley. she says it's no secret that the disabled placard system has problems.sotmarilyn golden says abusers are taking up spaces that people with disabilities need. this is not a small issue.earlier this year, an audit of the california dmv found that the placard system is rife with issues.for example, the audit found that the dmv had not cancelled placards for thousands of people who have probably died. the audit also found that local parking enforcement lacks immediate access to dmv records which would help them determine if they placards is legitimate. golden believes that the best way to fix the problems is to improve enforcement of the existing rules.sotmarilyn golden says there's so much opportunity for abuse that it's important that everyone in the system, whether it's the dmv, the local police, individuals with disabilities and their families. everyone in this complex of agencies and society do our part to make it work. in order to keep the tide of abuse at bay.she

( james ) the reward for an unsolved murder of an east bay teen has gone up. the alameda county sheriff's office is now offering 10- thousand dollars for any information leading to an arrest and conviction of 16-year-old lamar murphy's killer. murphy was shot and killed back on january 23rd just before seven at night while he was riding his bike to a corner store near his home. they found his body on the corner of princeton street and smalley

their pen in golden gate park at a little before 6 am.and then it was off to the racesas the 23 animals decided to go for a little gallop thru the greenery. cop turned into cowpokes after a good samaritain called 9-1-1 to report the unusal spectacle. the first for us 18 years and never heard of a loose horses sgt. kevin stancombe was called to the scene as he was getting on shift. his main concern was keeping the sting from trotting into traffic. it's like on a deer hit a car can you imagine a horse? that could be fatalnats (park ranger)i lasso'd onepark rangers helped get a handle on the herd. and the wranglers who work for the riding outfit were able to turn a nearby dogpark into a temporary pen for the horses.so there were several other horses just outside the gate at the dog park and the nice thing was at the horses that were loose stay close to the horses that were penned ina staff member here told me about half of the horses that did not get corralled at the dog park and it up coming right back here

situation. but this study examined the videos of everyday interactions of oakland police officers.sot the way we communicate with our citizens has an impact on their ability to trust us researchers at stanford looked at almost 200=hours of footage, from about 1-thousand traffic stops... during april 2014. then people rated how respectful the conversations went. the cameras showed...white people were 57% more likelty to hear an officer say "please" and "thank you". they also apologized to white people more. and officers also showed concern, telling them to "drive safe." but with black drivers, 61% were more likely to have an officer would use their first names and told them to keep their hands on the wheel. deputy chief leronne artrong tells

the alameda county sheriff's office is now offering 10- thousand dollars for any information leading to an arrest and conviction of 16-year-old lamar murphy's killer. murphy was shot and killed on january 23rd while he was riding his bike to a corner store near his home. police found his body on the corner of princeton street and smalley avenue in hayward. lamar was a standout high school football player at hayward high school. ( darya ) the woman accused of shoving meth into a toddler's mouth will make her first court appearance today. she is charged with child abuse. investigators say sayyadinthomas walked up to a two-year-old boy and put the drug in his mouth monday afternoon at the people's park in berkeley. police say she attacked a deputy during the booking process at the santa rita jail. and this is not the first time she has attacked officers. thomas was still on probation for attacking three deputies in 2014. berkeley police say the boy is now out of the hospital.

( mark ) a homeless man is under arrest for sexually assaulting a teenage girl. it happened at a whole food's market on east blithedale avenue in marin on tuesday night. police say 55- year-old james stratta confronted the girl, grabbed her arms and touched her inappropriately. the girl ran away and told her father. the father confronted stratta and with the help of a witness held him down until police arrived. stratta was booked into marin county jail on several charges. ( darya ) a san francisco man has been arrested for falsely obtaining and selling disabled placards. montana le is accused of forging a doctor's signature to apply for the placards... and then selling them sometimes for one thousand dollars a piece. if convicted he could face up to 4 years in prison. his arrest has now brought to light a growing issue in california. officials say about 15 percent of disabled placards, temporary placards and license plates in the state are being misused. earlier this year...the d-m-v

( darya ) there is new evidence this morning that oakland police officers may treat african americans different than white people in their community.( mark ) researchers at stanford watched more than 200 hours of police body camera footage. they found that white people were nearly 60 percent more likely to hear the words "please" and "thank you."( darya ) the study also found that officers were more likely to call white people "sir" and "madam" and were more likely to call african americans by their first name. the police department says officers are working hard to try and connect with people they are associating with. < the way we communicate with our citizens has an impact on their ability to trust us // if we can teach our officers to be professional across the board no matter who they deal with it helps to midigate these types of issues.>( mark ) police say they plan to use the information in the study to help teach their officers how to better communicate with everybody in the community. happened on fernald street yesterday afternoon. the victim says she her gold chain was snatched from her neck. the second incident happened on stevenson boulevard. the second victim says that the man approached her from behind, shoved her to the ground and pulled the necklace from her neck. police say these thefts are related. ( darya ) santa clara poliuce caught two thieves using the electronic devices that they stole. the device called a "roambee" is a g-p-s tracking device. the thieves who stole hundreds of these from the roam-bee offices didn't know that they were tracking devices. eight hours after the theft, police found the devices in a storage locker in union city along with other stolen property. officers were also able to track down the two thieves in alameda who also had the devices in their car.

( darya ) a health scare at an elementary school in fremont. more than a dozen students are being tested for h-i-v and hepatitis after a child started poking other students with a diabetic needle.( mark ) kron 4's averi harper is live at cabrillo elementary school with the details. averi. notified for a week after several children were poked with a used diabetic needle. vowe're told this happened on may 26. a child found the needle near where school buses pick up at the school. a staff member saw it and took it away from the child.at that time there was no indication that the child poked anyone with it. on may 31... parents started calling the school saying their children had been poked with the needle. 14 children in all were stuck with it.now... school officials are urging affected children to get tested for conditions like hiv and hepatitis.we spoke to a family member of one of the children who was poked with this needle... he says the school waited too long to notify families.

(james) the senate intelligence committee released a written version of comey's opening statement yesterday ... and it's being interpreted differently, depending on who you ask. today is expected to be a dramatic day on capitol hill. in his statement comey describes president trump asking him privately to end any probe into former national security advisor michael flynn. according to comey, the president said, quote: "i hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting flynn go." comey's statement also describes phone calls in which president trump urged him to publicly declare he was not personally under investigation. the former f-b-i director also described a private dinner with the president, during which president trump asked comey to pledge his loyalty to him. if that account is true... senators on both sides of the aisle say the president was out of line.

comey, who comes up against a president who knows no limits in terms of a proper relationship.sen. susan collins/ (r) maine: "it was clearly inappropriate for the president to ask for a loyalty pledge from the director of the fbi. i think, perhaps, this reflects a lack of understanding and appreciation on the president's part of the role of the fbi and his lack of understanding and appreciation for separation of duties and responsibilities.>( james ) comey's testimony is set to begin in less than 30 minutes. we have a live picture to show you of what it looks like inside the hearing room. you can see a swarm of people ranging from lawmakers and their staff, members of the media and the public are also getting set. this is room 216 of the senate's hart building. it's a massive space that can accommodate hundreds of reporters... and it's one sign of just how much attention the committee expecting of comey's testimony. in fact, we have video recorded earlier this hour... showing you the incredibly long line outside that room as people were waiting to file inside. you can see that line snaking around the hallways.

morning... bars and coffee shops across the country are opening their doors early to host watch parties for james comey's testimony.( darya ) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live at a san francisco bar where a crowd is expected. lydia. on the track and these weird looking metal stands with lots of light that apparently flash when a train is approaching. nats: ambiance and let's be honest with each other . according to the us department of transportation there are just over 129 thousand rail crossing in the united states that's not a whole lot yet somehow according to operation lifesaver about every 3 hours, a person is hit by a train. it's really not a difficult take to avoid two metal tracks . you either stop 15 feet before them or you safely proceed past them but you never stop them . never not every for a secondnats: ambiance now as a journalist i'm not supposed to ask questions, i'm supposed to give you answers . but no matter how many answers i give you reports of people getting hit by trains keep pouring in nats: ambiancemaybe people think that are invincible while sitting in there cars often texting away . the only advice i can give you is the advice that comes from operation lifesaver is trains don't stop quickly .. in pittsburg and antioch stanley

charged with murdering another man on a bus in oakley. phillip wade has been charged in the death of 57-year-old anthony johnson. police say the two men got into an argument while riding a bus saturday afternoon at main street and charles way. johnson died from stab wounds. wade is set to be arraigned ( darya ) a woman is in critical condition this morning after a man attacked her with a hammer in san francisco's hayes valley neighborhood. it happened early yesterday morning on market street near gough. police say the woman was trying to help a man who was suffering from some kind of medical problem....and then another man walked up to her -- and they got into an argument. police say the man started hitting the woman with a hammer. both the woman and the man she was trying to help were taken to the hospital. the attacker was taken into custody. his name has not been released. ( mark ) santa clara police caught two thieves

using the electronic devices that they stole. the device called a "roambee" is a g-p-s tracking device. the thieves who stole hundreds of these from the roam-bee offices didn't know that they were tracking devices. eight hours after the theft, police found the devices in a storage locker in union city along with other stolen property. officers were also able to track down the two thieves in alameda who also had the devices in their car. ( mark ) roambees are used to track the shipment of bananas and other products around the world.
