winter, where 36 people died, came out fighting today. the attorneys accused the alameda district attorney of grand standing saying their client should not be held responsible for the criminal prosecution of those who died. earlier this week, the alameda da charged derick almena and max harris the creative director with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. she said the two created hazardous conditions in the warehouse that amounted to a death trap. however, almena's legal team and wife countered the charges are all a rouse and draw focus away from the real issues.

oakland issued a statement late in the day saying that while it is a defense attorneys job to deflect attention away from it's client, the da must hold those responsible. the two are back in court next week to enter a plea. (catherine) the pleasanton police department is sharing surveillance video of two men holding up a 7-11 store this week.... they're releasing it to the public - in the hopes that someone will recognize the men....although both of them have their faces partly covered. police say the two men walked into a 7-11 store on hop-yard road around

6:20 in the morning on monday....and pointed a gun at the clerk. they both ended up behind the counter and got away with cash and tobao products. at times you'll see the clerk - wearing glasses. he wasn't injured... it's believed the men were in a dark-colored sedan.. investigators are hoping the video - and some stills showing the men at closer range - will produce leads they can use. they want anyone with information to call the pleasanton police department... thatwitness says hit some power lines. police add the damage from the crash is in the tens of thousands of dollars. they do have some tips from witnesses who saw a man flying the drone in the area. the police department adds that drone should not have been in the air since it was within a five-mile radius of an airport--moffett field. the power was restored early this morning. ( catherine ) bart's law aimed at cracking down on seat hogs might be going away......even beforeit's enforced... a board member is proposing to rescind it --- arguing that it's a waste of police resources. the ordinance took effect last october but has yet to be enforced. if would have fined passengers who take up more than one seat on crowded trains. a vote on eliminating the 'seat hog' law is expected in two weeks. (catherine) the lake merrit bart station will be closed on saturday and sunday for track work. bart officials say that will mean delays of 20 to 40 minutes in the area. there

won't be any service between the lake merrit and fruitvale stations. bart will provide free bus shuttle service for riders between the 19th street and fruitvale stations. ( steve ) not a fan of california's new gas tax and vehicle registration fees? you have lots of company. a poll just done by u-c berkeley finds lots of people against the law. opponents outnumber pporters 58 percent to 35 percent. the law is suppose to kick in o november 1st... it would hike gas prices by 12 cents per galllon. starting january 1st vehicle registration fees will also go up based on a sliding scale. the new fees and taxes are suppose to raised 52-billion dollars over ten years to help repair california's crumbling roads. (catherine) a huge mudslide on highway 50 in el dorado county will continue to restricttraffic through most, if not all, of the weekend... a section of 50 was

shut down yesterday after the slide pushed tons ofmud, branches and boulders onto the road. today - it's still a mess although there are now one-way traffic controls. that will probably be the case through saturday - and maybe all day sunday. it's happening in a rural area between white hall and kyburz. one of the scary moments thursday -- the driver of one of the heavy pieces of equipment discovered the hillside had not stopped moving... caltrans engineer - yeah, he was up here and it cut loose and he and the excavator traveled down the hillside together. fortunately no on was hurt. we figured it was a danger to the highway. caltrans says that more than 50 truckloads of debris are being hauled away. drivers are being told to expect 90-minute delays.... crews are working around the clock to clear the mud....and stabilize the slope. ( steve ) early june is when the camping season in the high sierra is well underway.

but despite the warmer temperatures we've been seeing, it's been a slow start for would-be campers..( catherine ) lonnie wong tells us that campsites in many cases - are still deing with the effects of the record- breaking winter. campers in the crystal basin rec area of the eldorado national forest didn't have to worry about crowds today. there wasn't enough warm and sunny days in many of the higher campgrounds in the sierras.wright's lake rec area won't be open for another month. one of those places is popular loon lake campground which is two weeks behind after it got hit hard this winter. rockslides on ice house road and trees knocked over by the weight of the snow make getting there a challenge. while most of the snow is melting fast, trees fell over

damaging picnic benches.this group from the bay area will wait for better weather this weekend at jones fork campground at the union valley reservoir.and frank duran an alisha wills were directed here after they were told loon lake was still closed.with a crazy weather year, they say it could have been worse.but there are still dangers that lurk in the aftermath of the heavy winter. trees are weakened and can fall, and landslides can still happen. the biggest danger is high water along streams and creeks. despite the drawbacks, some are determined to enjoy their camping experience.basin, lonnie wong, fox40 news.
