took to the streets. there were some clashes between both sides in seattle, and minneapolis. but over all police around the country helped keep everyone safe. ( marty @ landing ) back here in the bay area, one of the largest demonstrations was in the south bay. that's where kron four's philippe djegal shows us that those standing against islamic law were peacefully confronted by the opposition. alice hoagland/nats- "no sharia in the usa." on the santa clara side of the intersection near santana row... dozens of protestors standing against sharia -- or, islamic law. nats- "show me what hypocracy looks like. that is what hypocracy looks like." on the san jose side of the intersection... demonstrators, by the hundreds, shout in opposition...nats- "they are few -- we are many." alice hoagland's son mark bingham died on united airlines flight 93 on september 11th 2001. alice hoagland/anti-sharia law- "i am fully in favor of muslim-americans. i am very grateful for muslims to come to the united states and adopt american values, but to the extent that they are trying to, trying to infuse america with the, with the teachings

tax revenue. the money comes from a two-dollar- per-pack increase in cigarette taxes. approved by voters last year. doctors and dentists who helped fund the cigarette tax campaign want to see a boost in medi-cal payments. but governor brown proposed using the money to cover normal medi-cal growth. that would free up general fund dollars for other programs. ( marty ) someone in california is waking up a whole lot richer this morning. at least one lucky person had all the winning numbers on saturday's powerball drawing. the jackpot is 448 million dollars. the ticket was sold in sun city. that's in riverside county. it's unclear if the california player was the only winner. this year's jackpot is the seventh largest awarded u-s lottery prize of all time. firefighters say seven people are without a home after a fire scorched an independent living facility. it happened around noon yesterday afternoon on sunset boulevard. firefighters say they could see heavy smoke from a mile away. luckily crews were able to extinguish the flames within 20 minutes. there were no injuries the red cross is helping those that were displaced. the cause of the fire...is still under investigation. ( marty ) in the east bay... an officer involved shooting ended with a car crashing into a brentwood home. kron4's jeff pierce reports on the incident and spoke to the homeowner this is birchwood road a quiet, leafy street in brentwood. it is the kind of neighborhood where residents put out flags to welcome their friends. but this home owner, who declined to give his last name, had unwelcome guests visit him just before ten o'clock friday night. i'm watching tv and i hear some,

well in the back of my mind i knew it was gunshots but i was hoping it was fireworks. those gunshots echoed through street and were heard by frightened residents. i heard two different types of guns. and then we heard more gunshots there were about six in a row. bap bap bap bap bap. as i got to the front door i realized it was gunshots and i didn't get to the front door before i saw the car fly into the front yard here. that car was the subject of a pursuit by brentwood police where shots were exchanged before crashing into ross's home. two suspects were injured in the ensuing police activity. one person was shot by the officer, his condition i can't release right now. within minutes the quiet nieghborhood was overwhelmed with law enforcement officers. it was a huge scene there were twenty or thirty people out here at one point. when we came outside there was a guy that said he got shot in the head he was screaming and screaming it was the most intensive thing i ever saw in my life. a second subject was injured in the incident. one suspect had

to be airlifted from the scene. there was a helicopter at the very very end they had taken the first guy who was screaming out, they took him in an ambulance and they airlifted the guy who apparently got shot in the hip. brentwood police are releasing few details about the incident. so it's the brentwood police and the district attorney's office investigating the case. on saturday morning residents are hoping birchwood road is returning to the quiet street they had just days ago. just hoping it was a random thing. we don't get this kind of thing in brentwood. you just never know. never know. in brentwood jeff pierce kron four news. ( marty ) the lake merritt bart station will be closed again today for maintenance. bart says the closure will cause a 20 to 40 minute delay in the area. especially when traveling to oakland international airport. there will be no service between the lake merritt and fruitvale stations. a free shuttle bus will be provided for riders between the 19th street and fruitvale

( marty ) a young man from the peninsula remains missing this morning. 22-year-old richard moss was last seen leaving his home in montara may 25th in a blue 2001 hyundai tiburon police say he then made a trip to work. he stopped at a mcdonalds in pacifica around seven a.m. for breakfast. he was less than three miles from his job on moss beach but never made it. there has been no activity on richard's a-t-m card since he went missing. authorities have now hired a private investigator to help with the search. ( marty ) a 13-year old boy is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed outside of a library in millbrae. the suspect accused of randomly stabbing the boy is said to be a 44-year-old man from south san francisco. he has been arrested and faces felony charges. police say around

2-30 friday afternoon the man randomly approached the teen in the middle of the library's plaza and then attacked the boy. police found a 4 inch knife that they believe was used to stab the teenager several times on both his arms. the boy is expected to be okay. police are working on finding a motive for the attack.

the department publicized this surveillance image from the shell gas station on dunne avenue.with help from the public, they found and arrested dollarhide at about five p-m saturday.he's now in the santa clara county jail. "my first reaction was, 'oh my god, really?!'"because the victim was the only employee in this food mart at around six a-m saturday, you can imagine why she didn't feel right about a man who was hanging around the front of the store, acting nervous."she was feeling uncomfortable about the situation. when he came in, she did ask him to leave."he did leave, but eventually came back.she says dollarhide started a conversation and asked for free cigarettesbefore going around the counter and attacking her."grabbed on to both of her arms and tried to drag her into a back storage room."it was there the victim says she was almost sexually assaulted.police say she did a fantastic him off though.she hit the man in the face, until he eventually ran you can see the damage she caused him under his right eye.the employee who was called in to fill the victim's shift had no idea what happened saturday morning. "they just asked me if i can work here. they didn't tell me why or what was going on, but i had never had an experience like that." dollarhide was booked in jail for attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and a parole violation.in morgan hill, spencer blake, kroon four news.

( marty ) attorney general jeff sessions has agreed to appear before senate intelligence committee. the committe is investigating alleged russian meddling in the presidential election. in a letter, sessions says his decision comes in light of last week's testimony by fired fbi director james comey. sessions will testify on tuesday. ( marty ) the u-s navy's newest combat ship is named after former congresswoman gabrielle giffords. hilary clinton and former second lady jill biden were at the commissioning ceremony in galveston, texas yesterday. the 420-feet long ship will

( marty ) california state lawmakers have reached a deal on some points in the state budget. but many remain at odds over how to spend over one billion dollars in tobacco tax revenue. the money comes from a two-dollar- per-pack increase in cigarette taxes. approved by voters last year. doctors and dentists who helped fund the cigarette tax campaign want to see a boost in medi-cal payments. but governor brown proposed using the money to cover normal medi-cal growth. that would free up general fund dollars for other programs. ( marty ) someone in california is waking up a whole lot richer this morning. at least one lucky person had all the winning numbers on saturday's powerball drawing. the jackpot is 448 million dollars. the ticket was sold in sun city. that's in riverside county. it's unclear if the california player was the only winner.

firefighters put out a deck fire on a 3-story apartment building in nob hill. you can see the smoke from these pictures a kron 4 viewer sent us. we still don't know much damage was done to the building. no one was injured. the cause of the fire is investigation. ( marty ) in hayward... firefighters say seven people are without a home after a fire scorched an independent living facility. it happened around noon

yesterday afternoon on sunset boulevard. firefighters say they could see heavy smoke from a mile away. luckily crews were able to extinguish the flames within 20 minutes. there were no injuries the red cross is helping those that were displaced. the cause of the fire...is still under investigation. ( marty ) in the east bay... an officer involved shooting ended with a car crashing into a brentwood home. kron4's jeff pierce reports on the incident and spoke to the homeowner and neighbors. this is birchwood road a quiet, leafy street in brentwood. it is the kind of neighborhood where residents put out flags to welcome their friends. but this home owner, who declined to give his last name, had unwelcome guests visit him just before ten o'clock friday night. i'm watching tv and i hear some, well in the back of my mind i knew it was gunshots but i was hoping it was fireworks. those gunshots echoed through street and were heard by frightened residents. i heard two different types of guns. and

then we heard more gunshots there were about six in a row. bap bap bap bap bap. as i got to the front door i realized it was gunshots and i didn't get to the front door before i saw the car fly into the front yard here. that car was the subject of a pursuit by brentwood police where shots were exchanged before crashing into ross's home. two suspects were injured in the ensuing police activity. one person was shot by the officer, his condition i can't release right now. within minutes the quiet nieghborhood was overwhelmed with law enforcement officers. it was a huge scene there were twenty or thirty people out here at one point. when we came outside there was a guy that said he got shot in the head he was screaming and screaming it was the most intensive thing i ever saw in my life. a second subject was injured in the incident. one suspect had to be airlifted from the scene. there was a helicopter at the very very end they had taken the first guy who was screaming out, they took him in an ambulance and they airlifted the guy who

apparently got shot in the hip. brentwood police are releasing few details about the incident. so it's the brentwood police and the district attorney's office investigating the case. on saturday morning residents are hoping birchwood road is returning to the quiet street they had just days ago. just hoping it was a random thing. we don't get this kind of thing in brentwood. you just never know. never know. in brentwood jeff pierce kron four news. ( marty ) the lake merritt bart station will be closed again today for maintenance. bart says the closure will cause a 20 to 40 minute delay in the area. especially when traveling to oakland international airport. there will be no service between the lake merritt and fruitvale stations. a free shuttle bus will be provided for riders between the 19th street and fruitvale stations. ( marty ) and if you heading to southshore prepare for a backup on highway 50 through el dorado county a mudslide thursday night burried a large section of the highway. caltrans says 50 tons of debris from the

hillside slid onto the road. it started in the westbound lane before creeping into eastbound traffic. crews spent much of the evening cleaning boulders and mud, closing the highway for five miles. now crews are working on reverse traffic control. caltrans says water from storms this winter got in between boulders, causing the mudslide. they hope to have both lanes back open by this afternoon. ( marty ) a young man from the peninsula remains missing this morning. 22-year-old richard moss was last seen leaving his home in montara may 25th in a blue 2001 hyundai tiburon police say he then made a trip to work. he stopped at a mcdonalds in pacifica around seven a.m. for breakfast. he was less than three miles from his job on moss beach but never made it. there has been no activity on richard's a-t-m card since he went missing. authorities have now hired a private investigator to help with the search. ( marty ) a 13-year old boy is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed outside of a library in millbrae. the suspect accused of randomly stabbing the boy is said to be a 44-year-old man from south san francisco. he has been arrested and faces felony charges. police say around 2-30 friday afternoon the man randomly approached the teen in the middle of the library's plaza and then attacked the

"escape from alcatraz is currently under way! top athletes from around the world are gather here to compete in the event. and that's where we find kron four's averi harper. good morning averi. well just minutes race participants loaded buses to get them to pier 3... participants got some disappointing news. the alcatraz part of the escape from alcatraz has been canceled because of dangerous currents in the bay. so today's triathlon has just turned into a biathlon. so race participants will just have to be satisfied with the bike and run portions of the race. that's all he will get to do today. there are thousands of participants. they are all 50 states and around the world.we know there are at least 7 participants that competed in the rio olympics that will be escaping from alcatraz this morning. it's a tough course... even for elite athletes. racers will do an 18 mile bike ride with lots of up hill running. and an 8 mile run through golden gate park before they finish just feet from where they started at marina green. i've been talking to racers about how they felt when they heard the news that the swim

you can see the smoke from these pictures a kron 4 viewer sent us. we still don't know much damage was done to the building. no one was injured. the cause of the fire is investigation. ( marty ) in hayward... firefighters say seven people are without a home after a fire scorched an independent living facility. it happened around noon yesterday afternoon on sunset boulevard. firefighters say they could see heavy smoke from a mile away. luckily crews were able to extinguish the flames within 20 minutes. there were no injuries the red cross is helping those that were displaced. the cause of the fire...is still under investigation. ( marty ) the lake merritt bart station will be closed again today for maintenance. bart says the closure will cause a 20 to 40 minute delay in the area. especially when traveling to oakland international airport. there will be no service between the lake merritt and fruitvale stations. a free shuttle bus will be provided for riders between

( marty ) and if you heading to southshore prepare for a backup on highway 50 through el dorado county a mudslide thursday night burried a large section of the highway. caltrans says 50 tons of debris from the hillside slid onto the road. it started in the westbound lane before creeping into eastbound traffic. crews spent much of the evening cleaning boulders and mud, closing the highway for five miles. now crews are working on reverse traffic control. caltrans says water from storms this winter got in between boulders, causing the mudslide. they hope to have both lanes back open by this afternoon. ( marty ) a young man from the peninsula remains missing this morning. 22-year-old richard moss was last seen leaving his home in montara may 25th in a blue 2001 hyundai tiburon police say he then made a trip to work. he stopped at a mcdonalds in pacifica around seven a.m. for breakfast. he was less than three miles from his job on moss beach but never made it. there has been no activity on richard's a-t-m card since he went missing. authorities have now hired a private investigator to help with the search. ( marty ) a 13-year old boy is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed

outside of a library in millbrae. the suspect accused of randomly stabbing the boy is said to be a 44-year-old man from south san francisco. he has been arrested and faces felony charges. police say around 2-30 friday afternoon the man randomly approached the teen in the middle of the library's plaza and then attacked the boy. police found a 4 inch knife that they believe was used to stab the teenager several times on both his arms. the boy is expected to be okay. police are working on finding a motive for the attack.

27-year-old richard dollarhide was arrested around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. the assault happened around 6:30 yesterday morning ata gas station on east dunne avenue. the victim was an employee at the gas station. she told officers the suspect walked into the business acting nervous and was asking for free goods. police say the victim told the man he needed to leave because he was asking for free things and he allegedly grabbed the woman by the arms and dragged her toward a back room. the woman allegedly fought off the man by hitting him in the face. ( marty ) daly city police are asking for the publics help in identifying a craigslist robbery suspect. police say this man met with the victim at a gas station on june first to buy apple laptops and i-phones.. the victim says the person arrived in a cab. then came to his car to do the exchange. that's when the thief robbed him. officers recommend that any online sales happen
